Resumo
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of year of test, month of birth and breeder on growth characteristics of 205 canchim bulls at the new performance test of Sertãozinho, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The animals, reared by 18 different breeders, had the following characteristics collected: initial weight corrected for age (P210), gain on pasture in 14 days (GE14), gain during the adaptation period (GA56), gain in 112 days of test (G1 12), total gain in feedlot (G 168), corrected final weight (P392) and actual final weight (PPF). The year was an important source of variation for all the characteristics but P210. The effect of month of birth was highly significant (P 0.01) for PV and PPF, significant (P 0.05) for P210 and GA56 and not significant for GE14, G112 and G168. The highest averages were for the August born animals except for P210 and P392. For these characteristics the highest averages were for the October born individuals. Breeders effect was highly significant for all the characteristics except for GE14. The initial weight (PV) considered as a continous independent variable was highly significant source of variation (P 0.01) for all the characteristics and significant (P 0.05) for G1 12. The initial weight was not entirely responsible for the breeder effect. Breeder effect was not eliminated through the test and was probably a source oO presente estudo objetivou avaliar os efeitos de ano de execução (1979181), mês de nascimento (agostooutubro) e criador sobre as características peso inicial (PV), peso inicial padronizado à idade de 210 dias (P210), ganho em pasto pré-confinamento de 14 dias (GE14); ganho no período de adaptação de 56 dias (GA56), ganho na prova em 112 dias (G112), ganho total em confinamento (G 168), peso final padronizado a 392 dias (P392) e peso final real (PPF). de 205 machos da raça canchim testados nas novas provas de Sertãozinho e provenientes de dezoito criadores, O efeito de ano de execução da prova foi importante fonte de variação em praticamente todas as características, com exceção de P210. O efeito do mês de nascimento foi altamente significativo (P 0,01) em PV e PPF, significativo (P 0,05) em P210 e GA56 e não significativo em GE14, G112 e G168. Nas características onde esse efeito se mostrou significativo, geralmente os animais de agosto apresentaram as maiores médias, exceção feita a P210 e P392, cujas maiores médias foram as relativas aos animais de outubro, O efeito de criador mostrou-se altamente significativo em todas as características consideradas, com exceção de G214.
