Resumo
The genes identification that influences sheep prolificacy is approached as a new perspective, emphasizing the known mutations and its possible applications. The Booroola (FecB), Inverdale and Hanna (FecX) sheep are discussed, as well as the presence of these genetic markers in the other breeds, being native or not. The genic mutations detection, related with the sheep prolificacy, will be able to be an option when accompanied by programs of genetic improvement, carrying gain of productivity, besides enabling the investigation of other factors involved in the follicular dynamics of this species.A identificação de genes que influenciam na prolificidade de ovinos é abordada, ressaltando-se as mutações conhecidas e suas possíveis aplicações. As linhagens de ovelhas Booroola (FecB), Inverdale e Hanna (FecX) são discutidas, bem como a verificação destes marcadores em outras raças, nativas ou não. O entendimento desses fatores proporciona a abertura de um caminho promissor o qual, quando somado a outras medidas, poderá resultar em ganho de produtividade, além de possibilitar a investigação de outros fatores envolvidos na dinâmica folicular dessa espécie.
