Resumo
SUMMARY Holstein Friesian milking cows and heifers were used under rotational grazing to evaluate different cultivars (cvs.) elephant-grass; Merckeron Pinda, Mercker-86-México, Porto Rico and Cameroon under grazing conditions in the region of Santa Maria-RS. in relation to the availability and the quality of the forage it was observed that the cvs. are very similar but the best performances in weigh gain were observed for Merckeron Pinda and Cameroon cvs.RESUMO Com o objetivo de avaliar as cultivares (cvs.) de capim-elefante: Merckeron Pinda, Mercker-86-México, Porto Rico e Cameroon sob pastejo, conduziu-se este experimento em Santa Maria-RS. Para avaliação foram utilizadas novilhas e vacas em lactação da raça Holandês em pastejo rotativo. Quanto a disponibilidade e a qualidade da forragem verificou-se muita semelhança entre as cvs.; com relação ao desempenho animal as cvs. Merckeron Pinda e Cameroon foram as que apresentaram os melhores resultados.
