Resumo

Since the first description of the renal biopsy technique in dogs it has been used as a diagnostic and research tool. The diagnosis of renal injuries is based on the morphology of the lesion, making the renal biopsy important for the establishment of the diagnosis and prognosis. Tissue histopathological analyses allow differentiating between organic and functional disorders. Therefore, acute lesions, possibly reversible and with better prognosis, may be differentiated from chronic and irreversible damage. The main goal of this work was to evaluate the correlation between the histopathological diagnosis of renal keyhole technique biopsies and renal tissue from post mortem exam from dogs. Samples from both kidneys of 86 dogs were collected using Tru-Cut needle biopsies. The diagnostic correlation between the biopsy diagnosis and exam of post mortem kidneys was 92.5%, with an excellent reproducibility level, when measured by kappa statistic method (p 0.001). KEY-WORDS: Keyhole biopsy. Kidney. Dogs. Diagnostic correlation. Post mortem evaluation.
