Resumo
A antecipação da puberdade tem papel crucial na taxa de desfrute de um rebanho ao diminuir a idade de entrada dos animais em reprodução, e mesmo nos rebanhos submetidos à estação de monta, o fato de entrarem em puberdade antes aumenta a perspectiva de apresentarem maior qualidade de sêmen e, no caso das fêmeas, de apresentarem maior regularidade cíclica, o que melhora o desempenho reprodutivo no início da primeira estação. A idade à puberdade está diretamente relacionada a fatores genéticos, condições nutricionais pré-desmama e pósdesmama, manejo e até mesmo a linhagem dentro da raça. Essa interação genótipo-ambiente torna a idade àpuberdade altamente variável entre raças e ambientes. A presente revisão pretende discutir alguns aspectos da seleção de precocidade sexual de machos bovinos em ambiente tropical.(AU)The anticipation of puberty has crucial role in production rate of a herd by reducing the entry age ofreproduction in animals, and even in herds undergoing breeding season, the fact that before coming into pubertyincreases the prospect of presenting the highest quality of semen and females, larger cyclical regularity, improving the reproductive performance early in the first season. The age of puberty is directly related to genetic factors, nutritional status pre-weaning and post-weaning management and evenwithin the lineage of thisbreed. This genotype-environment interaction makes the age puberty highly variable between races andenvironments. This review will discusses some aspects of sexual precocity selection of male cattle in a tropical environment.(AU)
