The evaporative heat loss is the main mechanism for removing heat by animals in the heat and high air temperature, which is one of the characteristics of the semiarid region. Thus, the aim of the study was to investigate the effect of evaporative heat loss of milk production in low-latitude region. For this, 302 cows were use in the Limoeiro do Norte - CE, Brazil. Environmental data were collect: air temperature (tA, ºC), wet bulb temperature (Tbu, °C), relative humidity (RH, %), partial vapor pressure (PV, kPa), wind speed (U, ms-1), black globe temperature of the sun (TG sun, °C) in the shade (TG shadow, °C) and solar radiation (R, Wm-2). Thus, were calculate the radiant heat load in the sun (RHL sun, Wm-2) and the shade (RHL shadow, Wm-2) and the mean radiant temperature in the sun (TRM, ºC); physiological data: surface temperature of black surface (TSN, ºC), white (TSB, ºC), rectal temperature (TR, ºC), respiratory rate ( FR, breathsmin-1), weight (kg), percentage of black surface (%), sweating (Sud, gm-2s-1) and expired air temperature (Texp, ºC). Subsequently, the evaporative heat losses were calculate on the skin surface (ES, mW-2) and by the respiratory rate (ER, Wm-2); As for production, the daily production of the cows were recorded (total) production in the morning shift (M) and in the afternoon (T), we calculated the difference between the morning and afternoon shifts (P). The data analyzed through Multiples regressions of physiological variables on the weather variables, the weather variables on production data and physiological variables on production data as well as the correlations between all variables were carried out. The average environmental data were: tA = 31.8 ± 2.4 °C; UR = 42.45 ± 7.3%; tG shadow = 35.7 ± 2.7ºC; tG sun = 42.1 ± 4.7ºC; R = 765 ± 229Wm-2; the means of physiological variables were: tR = 39.3 ± 0.54ºC; FR = 60.6 ± 18.2 breathsmin-1; TSN = 40.07 ± 2.73ºC; TSB = 36.9 ± 2.01ºC; ER = 47.86 ± 12.15 Wm-2 and ES 120.8 ± 35.61Wm-2; and the means of production were: total = 10.8 ± 4.19 L/cow/day in the morning 6.78 ± 2.3; 4.02 ± 2.02 L/cow in the afternoon and mean P was 2.75 ± 1.45 L/cow/day. There was a correlation of all the environmental variables with the physiological. Compared to environmental variables tA had a higher influence on the physiological variables; physiological variables were correlated with production data, the ER showed a higher correlation with P. In conclusion, the environmental variables; Tmax and T had influence on the difference between milkings M and T. As a result of the increase of these variables was lost in daily milk production. The Holstein x Zebu cows showed increased FR, ES and ER as the TR increased. When these animals were under stress, according ITSC, the most discrete changes in physiological responses indicated greater balance between morning productions and afternoon, and cows that showed the sharpest responses also showed higher differences between the morning Productions and pm. The heat loss by respiratory evaporation had the highest effect on the difference between milkings the morning and afternoon, which indicates inadequate to the low-latitude region of cows showed a great variation in respiratory evaporation rate, thus resulting in a higher milk loss daily.
