In this study we aimed to determine the resistance to verminosis (RV) in Santa Inês sheep by using K-means algorithm and estimate the components of (co)variances and genetic parameters for the coloration of the conjunctival mucosa (FAMACHA©), hematocrit (HCT), faecal worm egg count (FWEC), body condition score (BCS), and RV. Information from 221 Santa Inês sheep registered by the Brazilian Association of Sheep Breeders was used, in the Mid-North region of Brazil. The trait RV was defined using non-hierarchical K-means clustering from the combinations of FAMACHA©, FWEC, HCT, white blood cell count (WBC), red blood cell count (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), platelet (PLT) count, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), BCS, height at withers (HW), and croup height (CH). This was considered as the complete analysis. In the reduced analysis only the combinations among FAMACHA©, HCT, FWEC, and BCS were considered. Three groups were formed, so that in the complete analysis the first group was composed of 170 animals (resistant), the second group was composed of 42 animals (intermediate resistance), and the third group was composed of 9 animals (sensitive). In the reduced analysis animals were equally clustered. Animals which presented the lowest values for FWEC and FAMACHA©, and highest values for blood (HCT, WBC, RBC, HGB, PLT, MCH, MCV, and MCHC) and morphometric (BCS, HW, and CH) traits were classified as resistant. Animals with the highest values for FWEC and FAMACHA©, and lowest values for the blood variables were classified as sensitive. Animals with values between the resistant and sensitive groups were classified as intermediate resistant. The results of both analyses were equivalent, so that the same animals that were clustered by complete analysis were those verified with the reduced analysis. From this result, the genetic analysis was performed, assuming the classification based on the reduced analysis as RV having the phenotypic groups 1 (resistant), 2 (intermediate resistance), and 3 (sensitive). A Bayesian threshold animal model in single and multicharacteristic analyses was used to estimate the components of (co) variance and genetic parameters. The estimates of additive genetic variances in the multicaracteristic analysis were higher for BCS, RV, HCT, and FWEC than those estimated in the single-trait analysis, except for FAMACHA©, which was lower. The heritability estimates for all the characteristics in the multicharacteristic analysis were superior to those obtained in the single-trait analysis. RV was the characteristic that presented higher values in the single-trait analysis (0,33) and multicaracteristic (0,52). The genetic correlations estimated between the FAMACHA© and RV (0,79), FWEC and RV (0,77) and RV and HCT (-0,80) characteristics were of high magnitude. Among the environmental correlations, the highest magnitude was estimated between FWEC and RV (0,91). Animals could be identified for resistance to gastrointestinal verminosis in Santa Inês sheep flocks using only information on FAMACHA©, HCT, FWEC and BCS. Thus, genetic gains could be achieved from direct selection for RV as well as by indirect selection for FAMACHA© and FWEC
