The region of Londrina-PR has a varied equine population of different ages and races, used for various sports and work modalities. In order for these animals to perform their function fully, the integrity of all systems is important. Based on the importance of the respiratory system in equine performance, the need to seek more efficient methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and considering that there are no surveys that show the most frequent alterations in horses in the region, this study aimed to record the main alterations in the upper and lower proximal respiratory systems, using endoscopy at rest. Were evaluated 63 animals of different races and ages, performing different functions (loop, equitation, riding, patrolling and animals from school hospitals) in different properties. In total, 93% (59/63) of the animals presented alterations in the upper and / or lower proximal respiratory system, totaling 133 changes. The major alterations found in the upper respiratory system were follicular lymphoid hyperplasia in 53.96% (34/63), recurrent laryngeal neuropathy in 12.69% (8/63) and dorsal displacement of the soft palate in 11.11% (7/63) of the animals. Other alterations found less frequently were pharyngeal cysts, epiglottic entrapment, flaccidity and hypoplasia of epiglottis. Considering the proximal inferior respiratory system, tracheal secretion was observed in 57.14% (36/63), carina thickening in 47.61% (30/63) and tracheal spicules in 1.58% (1/63). Through endoscopic examination at rest it was possible to evaluate anatomical and functional characteristics and to establish the frequencies of alterations in the upper and lower respiratory systems of horses, establishing information to support the generation of data for the composition of the epidemiological indexes of conditions related to these alterations in the Region of Londrina-PR.
