PREDIÇÃO DE PARÂMETROS GENÉTICOS PARA CARACTERÍSTICAS PONDERAIS, REPRODUTIVA E ESCORES VISUAIS EM BOVINOS HEREFORD E BRAFORD

RESUMO

O Brasil possui o maior rebanho comercial de gado bovino do mundo. Essa posição privilegiada não reflete o aproveitamento do rebanho brasileiro. O presente estudo realizou uma revisão de literatura sobre estimativas de parâmetros genéticos para várias características de interesse econômico nas raças Braford e Hereford. As estimativas de herdabilidade encontradas para as características peso ao nascer (PN), peso a desmama (PD) e peso ao sobreano (PS), na raça Braford, variaram entre 0,13 e 0,49. As estimativas de herdabilidade encontradas para as características peso ao nascer, peso a desmama e peso ao sobreano, na raça Hereford, variaram entre 0,08 e 0,60. As maiores estimativas de herdabilidade para idade ao primeiro parto (IPP) nas raças Braford e Hereford foram 0,16 e 0,39, respectivamente. Em bovinos Braford, o maior valor de herdabilidade a desmama para as características de escores visuais foi de 0,25 e na raça Hereford foi de 0,23. Ao sobreano os valores foram mais baixos para ambas as raças. Conclui-se que são escassos os estudos sobre estimação de parâmetros genéticos das características IPP e escores de avaliação visual a desmama e ao sobreano, nas raças Hereford e Braford.

ABSTRACT

Brazil has the largest commercial cattle herd in the world. This privileged position doesn't reflect in the use of the Brazilian herd. The present study carried out a literature review on genetic parameters estimates for several characteristics of economic interest in the Braford and Hereford races. The heritability estimates found for the characteristics of birth weight (PN), weaning weight (PD) and yearling weight (PS) in the Braford breed ranged from 0.13 to 0.49. The heritability estimates found for the characteristics of birth weight, weaning weigth and yearling weight in the Hereford breed ranged from 0.08 to 0.60. The highest estimates of heritability for first calving age (IPP) in the Braford and Hereford races were 0.16 and 0.39, respectively. In Braford cattle, the highest heritability value at weaning for the visual characteristics scores was 0.25 and the Hereford breed was 0.23. On the yearling the values were lower for both breeds. It is concluded that there are few studies on genetic parameters estimates of the IPP characteristics and visual evaluation scores at weaning and yearling in the Hereford and Braford breeds.
