Resumo

A superpopulação de cães é um desafio para a saúde pública e o bem-estar animal. O objetivo deste trabalho é avançar no conhecimento do comportamento espacial de cães de rua. O estudo divide-se em cinco capítulos: (I) apresentação; (II) Cães de rua no Estado do Paraná: um olhar a partir das Secretarias Municipais de Meio Ambiente e de Saúde; (III) Construção de protótipo para rastreamento de cães nas ruas utilizando arduino; (IV) Características de deslocamento de cães de vizinhança em município de pequeno porte no sul do Brasil e (V) considerações finais. O estudo dos cães nas ruas sob o olhar das Secretarias Municipais de Meio Ambiente e Saúde colaborou no sentido de observar a atuação das secretarias frente ao manejo dos cães nas rua. A construção de um protótipo para rastreamento possibilitou a adequação de uma coleira de rastreamento para estudar a dinâmica espacial dos cães de rua. O estudo sobre as características do deslocamento de cães de vizinhança permitiu conhecer a área espacial dos cães nas ruas, estabelecendo parâmetros reais sobre locais de vida e de circulação dos cães nas ruas que estão sob os cuidados de um mantenedor. Os três estudos representam avanços para a elaboração de estratégias para o manejo de cães nas ruas.

Overpopulation of dogs is a challenge to public health and animal welfare. The objective of this work is to know the spatial behavior of street dogs. The study is divided into five chapters: (I) Presentation; (II) Street dogs in the State of Paraná:Municipal Secretariats of Environment and Health view; (III) Prototype construction to track dogs in the streets using arduino; (IV) Ranging characteristics of neighborhood dogs in a small municipality in southern Brazil and (V) Final considerations. The study of street dogs using Municipal Secretariats of Environment and Health view collaborated to observe about the performance of the secretariats regarding the management of the dogs. The construction of prototype for tracking allowed the adaptation of a tracking collar to study the spatial dynamics of dogs. The study on the characteristics of the displacement of neighboring dogs allowed an advance in the spatial knowledge of the dogs in the streets, establishing real parameters on the living and circulation areas of the dogs that are under the care of a maintainer. The three studies represent advances in the elaboration of strategies for the management of dogs on the streets.
