The objective was to evaluate the performance, carcass characteristics and economic analysis of crossbred sheep from Santa Inês managed in pasture of massai grass and submitted to different supplementation frequencies. A completely randomized design was used, in a 2x2 factorial arrangement, with two sexes, two supplementation frequencies and six repetitions per treatment, totaling twenty-four animals. The average initial weight was 21 ± 2.5 kg and the average initial age was 150 ± 30 days. The experimental period lasted 80 days, in which the animals were kept grazing from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, when they were collected in individual stalls, where they received supplementation according to treatments: SD (daily supplementation) or DA (supplementation in days alternate). The concentrate was offered to the animals as follows: 0.7% of live weight (BW) daily and 1.4% of BW on alternate days, maintaining the same level of supplementation. The grazing method used was the continuous stocking and with sampling cycles of the pasture every 28 days. The consumption of dry matter was estimated using an external indicator (titanium dioxide), supplied orally, in the amount of 2.5 g / day, for 14 days. The animals were subjected to 48h observation shifts to assess ingestive behavior. The animals were weighed at the beginning of the experimental period and every 14 days, until the end of the experiment, always before being released to the paddocks. The total weight gain was obtained by the difference between the final weight and the initial weight and the average daily weight gain estimate obtained through the relationship between the total gain and the total days of the experimental period. After 80 days, the males were submitted to a water diet and fasted for 16 hours of solids, and were subsequently slaughtered. The system's gross margin was estimated through the difference between total revenue and operating cost. The frequency of supplementation did not interfere with the consumption of dry matter (p> 0.05), but there was an effect of sex, with greater consumption observed for males (0.54 kg x 0.44 kg). The animals of the SD treatment spent more time grazing (781.01min) when compared to the DA treatment (742.32min), but there were no differences in feed efficiency and rumination (p> 0.05) between treatments. Feeding efficiencies based on dry pasture matter (EALmsp) and neutral detergent fiber (EALfdn) were better for males (60% and 41.52%) than for females (43.22% and 31, 86%), as well as the NDF rumination efficiency (ERUfdn). However, there was no effect on the animals' performance (p> 0.05). The frequency of supplementation also did not affect the characteristics and yield of the carcasses; weights and yields of cuts, as well as meat quality. As for the economic profitability of the business, only the income obtained from the sale of the males was sufficient to pay the operating cost. The frequency of alternating supplementation reduced the cost of feeding by 33.9% and, therefore, increased the gross margin of the production system. The frequency of supplementation on alternate days for grazing sheep provides the same performance and carcass quality, but promotes greater economic profitability than the daily supplementation system.
