Phytogenic additives such as essential oils are used in animal feed and have antibiotic, antioxidative, anti-inflammatory action, among others. Essential oils have gained prominence for their beneficial activity on the intestinal microbiota of birds, as well as their natural composition and non-residual effects. Thus, the objective was to study the effects of oregano and cinnamon essential oil (OEOC) supplementation on the modulation of the intestinal microbiota of laying Japanese quails. In this experiment 180 one-day Japanese quails, female, of the lineage Coturnix coturnix japonica, housed in cages randomly in five treatments, with six replicates of 6 birds each were evaluated. The evaluated groups were: negative control feed without additive, feed with the addition of 0.025g/kg of zinc bacitracin (positive control), and dietary supplementation with 0.05kg/t, 0.10kg/t and 0.15kg/t of OEOC. The identification of bacteria was performed by the Neoprospecta laboratory, using high-performance amplification with specific primers from the region of the V3/V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene. It is concluded that the microbiota was positively affected in OEOC-based diets, with the best inclusion level being 0.05kg/t for antibiotic effect in the rearing of laying quails to benefit the increase in Lactobacillus species.
