There are few related studies on the use of ornamental aquatic marine organisms (OAOM) by aquarists in the State of Ceara, and although the fish population in Brazil is not the largest among pets, the habit of raising fish as a pet (pet) has grown, ranking second in the ranking of domestic animal population growth rates in the country, with a cumulative value between 2013-2018 of 6.1%. However, while about 90% of the species used in freshwater aquariums come from crops, only 10% of the commercialized marine species are produced in captivity. The general objectives of this work are to characterize marine aquarism in the State of Ceara showing its importance and its potential, and thus have a better understanding of the use of OAOM collaborating with the sustainable development of the hobby's productive chain. Specifically, survey and analyze the qualitative and quantitative data of aquarists, shops and farms involved with the marine aquarium sector and infer whether the population of OAOM used by aquarists from aquaculture is greater than that of fishing. Through semi-structured questionnaires, information about the marine aquarium sector was obtained from 62 aquarists, four shopkeepers and a breeding manager. According to the data collected, the number of stores and aquarists is increasing significantly in the last 2 years and aquarists in the State of Ceara have a preference for ocellaris over fish, zoanthus in relation to, and shrimp over other beings. alive. It can be said that marine aquarists in the State of Ceara have an average of up to 7 fish, up to 19 types of corals, and up to 3 types of other beings in their salt water aquariums with the 95% confidence interval for population average, proving the preference for reef marine aquariums over fishonly. It can be inferred, with 95% reliability, that the percentage of OAOMs used by aquarists in the State of Ceara from aquaculture is greater than 59%, with an estimated proportion of 62.7%, that half of the interviewees invested in the aquarium the amount of R $ 6,370.00 and the average for investments with monthly maintenance of the hobby are: with energy R $ 75.24; food and nutrition R $ 51.56; TPA R $ 39.13; water analysis R $ 19.10; replacement of fresh water R $ 13.60; and for those who use a specialized team of R $ 117.50. The sum of the total amount invested in the hobby of marine aquarism in the State of Ceara by the interviewees was R $ 1,634,647.00.
