RESUMO
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this case report is to present the clinical course of full mouth rehabilitation in an 1 8-year-old female patient with ectodermal dysplasia who was treated with implant-supported fixed partial dentures for the mandible and the maxilla. CASE REPORT: Fourteen dental implants (8 in the maxilla and 6 in the mandible) were placed simultaneously after full mouth extraction and alveoloplasty surgery. After 6 months of healing, prosthetic rehabilitation was started for screw-retained fixed partial dentures. The patient was followed for one year and a peri-implant maintenance regime established for six-month recalls. The patient was satisfied with the prosthesis both esthetically and functionally. Furthermore, the patient reported significant improvements in oral function and psychosocial activities. CONCLUSION: The use of dental implants to support full mouth prosthetic rehabilitation for adolescents with ectodermal dysplasia may provide a considerable improvement in function and esthetic compared to conventional removable prosthetic options. This has the potential to enhance the quality of life for these patients.

Reconstruction of a partially dentate skeletal Class III patient who has had repair of a bilateral cleft lip and palate can be challenging. In this article we present our results with a segmental maxillary distraction to esthetically restore the support of the upper lip and functionally reconstruct the anterior maxillary dentition with implants. Prosthetic considerations were critical to determine the vector of distraction to achieve ideal results.

Hallermann-Streiff syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by craniofacial malformations, sparse hair, eye abnormalities, dental defects, degenerative skin changes, and short stature. The syndrome has many implications for dental treatment. Patients typically present with multiple missing and poorly formed teeth. The purpose of this case report is to discuss the overall management of a patient with Hallermann-Streiff syndrome by oral maxillofacial surgery, orthodontic treatment, and prosthodontic reconstruction.

The most frequent openings of the maxilla result from cleft palates or tumors that require either partial or total surgical removal of the palate. Intraoral defects in the maxilla can cause an opening into the nasopharynx complex. Cleft palates or surgically removed tumors can have a devastating effect on a patient's appearance and speech. Obturators allow patients to eat and drink without fear of food or drink entering the oronasal and/or oroantral cavities during mastication. This article reviews the three clinical situations in which obturators are used to correct intraoral defects and discusses a clinical case that was treated successfully by using an obturator. An alternative method for fabricating a hollow bulb obturator also is discussed.

Dental practices will see an increasing number of older patients as our population ages over the next decade. The following article describes a denture repair in a patient with Parkinson's disease. The patient and his caregiver were unable to make multiple trips to the clinic for treatment. The type of repair described in this article minimized the amount of expense and time required to repair the denture.
