Shale rock swelling poses a significant challenge during drilling a well, leading to issues related to wellbore instability. Water-based mud with specific shale inhibitors is preferred over oil-based drilling mud due to its lower environmental impact. Recently, ionic liquids (ILs) have emerged as potential shale inhibitors due to their adjustable properties and strong electrostatic attraction. However, research has shown that the most commonly used class of ILs (imidazolium) in drilling mud are toxic, non-biodegradable, and expensive. Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs), the fourth generation of ionic liquids, have been proposed as a cheaper and non-toxic alternative to ILs. However, ammonium salt-based DESs are not truly environmentally friendly. This research explores the utilization of Natural Deep Eutectic Solvent (NADES) based on Epsom salt (a naturally occurring salt) and glycerine as a drilling fluid additive. The drilling mud is prepared according to API 13B-1 standards. Various concentrations of NADES-based mud are tested for yield point, plastic viscosity, and filtration properties for both aged and non-aged samples. The linear swell meter is used to determine the percentage swelling of the NADES-based mud, and the results are compared with the swelling caused by KCl- and EMIM-Cl-based mud. FTIR analysis is conducted to understand the interaction between NADES and clay, while surface tension, d-spacing (XRD), and zeta potential are measured to comprehend the mechanism of swelling inhibition by NADES. The findings reveal that NADES improves the yield point and plastic viscosity of the mud, resulting in a 26% reduction in mudcake thickness and a 30.1% decrease in filtrate volume at a concentration of 1%. NADES achieves a significant 49.14% inhibition of swelling at the optimal concentration of 1%, attributed to its ability to modify surface activity, zeta potential of clay surfaces, and d-spacing of clay layers. Consequently, NADES emerges as a non-toxic, cost-effective, and efficient shale inhibitor that can replace ILs and DESs.

Arsenic contamination in the groundwater occurs in various parts of the world due to anthropogenic and natural sources, adversely affecting human health and ecosystems. The current study intends to examine the groundwater hydrogeochemistry containing elevated arsenic (As), predict As levels in groundwater, and determine the aptness of groundwater for drinking in the Vehari district, Pakistan. Four hundred groundwater samples from the study region were collected for physiochemical analysis. As levels in groundwater samples ranged from 0.1 to 52 µg/L, with an average of 11.64 µg/L, (43.5%), groundwater samples exceeded the WHO 2022 recommended limit of 10 µg/L for drinking purposes. Ion-exchange processes and the adsorption of ions significantly impacted the concentration of As. The HCO3- and Na+ are the dominant ions in the study area, and the water types of samples were CaHCO3, mixed CaMgCl, and CaCl, demonstrating that rock-water contact significantly impacts hydrochemical behavior. The geochemical modeling indicated negative saturation indices with calcium carbonate and other salt minerals, encompassing aragonite, calcite, dolomite, and halite. The dissolution mechanism suggested that these minerals might have implications for the mobilization of As in groundwater. A combination of human-induced and natural sources of contamination was unveiled through principal component analysis (PCA). Artificial neural networks (ANN), random forest (RF), and logistic regression (LR) were used to predict As in the groundwater. The data have been divided into two parts for statistical analysis: 20% for testing and 80% for training. The most significant input variables for As prediction was determined using Chi-squared analysis. The receiver operating characteristic area under the curve and confusion matrix were used to evaluate the models; the RF, ANN, and LR accuracies were 0.89, 0.85, and 0.76. The permutation feature and mean decrease in impurity determine ten parameters that influence groundwater arsenic in the study region, including F-, Fe2+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, SO42-, NO3-, HCO3-, and Na+. The present study shows RF is the best model for predicting groundwater As contamination in the research area. The water quality index showed that 161 samples represent poor water, and 121 samples are unsuitable for drinking. Establishing effective strategies and regulatory measures is imperative in Vehari to ensure the sustainability of groundwater resources.

RESUMO

Ossifying fibroma (OF) is an uncommon benign fibro-osseous lesion. Based on its clinical, morphological, and radiological features, OF is further divided into cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF), juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF), and juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma (JTOF). JPOF rarely involves the cranial base, with limited reports published on spheno-orbital JPOF. In this paper, we report a case of JPOF of the greater wing of the sphenoid bone and lateral orbital wall in an 11-year-old child and show a surgical video. Although rare, JPOF should be considered in the differential diagnosis of fibro-osseous lesions of the spheno-orbital region.

BACKGROUND: Cycas circinalis leaves are used to treat diabetes mellitus in local medicinal systems without any scientifically proved information on their medicinal potential and phytochemicals. In this study, the total phenolic contents, total flavonoid contents, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging and inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase and α-amylase were determined for optimized hydroethanolic leaf extracts. Secondary metabolites were identified using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS). In vivo studies on diabetic albino mice were also carried out to evaluate the impact of the most active extract on their blood glucose levels. RESULTS: The 60% ethanolic extract showed the highest extract yield (209.70 ± 0.20 g kg-1 ) and total phenolic (154.24 ± 3.28 mg gallic acid equivalent) and flavonoid (78.52 ± 1.65 mg rutin equivalent per gram dried extract) contents and exhibited the maximum DPPH scavenging activity (IC50 = 59.68 ± 2.82 µg mL-1 ). The IC50 values for inhibition of α-glucosidase (58.42 ± 2.22 µg mL-1 ) and α-amylase (74.11 ± 1.70 µg mL-1 ) were also significant for the 60% ethanolic extract. The untargeted UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS-based metabolite profiling confirmed the presence of iridoid glucoside, gibberellin A4, O-ß-d-glucosyl-4-hydroxy-cinnamate, 3-methoxy-2-phyenyl-4H-furo[2,3-h]chromen-4-one, kaempferol, withaferin A, amentoflavone, quercitin-3-O-(6″-malonyl glucoside), ellagic acid, and gallic acid. Plant extract at a dose of 500 mg kg-1 body weight reduced the blood glucose level by a considerable extent and also improved the lipid profile of diabetic mice after a 28-day trial. CONCLUSION: The findings revealed the medicinal potential of C. circinalis leaves to treat diabetes mellitus and provided the nutraceutical leads for functional food development. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

Presently, most deaths are caused by heart disease. To overcome this situation, heartbeat sound analysis is a convenient way to diagnose heart disease. Heartbeat sound classification is still a challenging problem in heart sound segmentation and feature extraction. Dataset-B applied in this study that contains three categories Normal, Murmur and Extra-systole heartbeat sound. In the purposed framework, we remove the noise from the heartbeat sound signal by applying the band filter, After that we fixed the size of the sampling rate of each sound signal. Then we applied down-sampling techniques to get more discriminant features and reduce the dimension of the frame rate. However, it does not affect the results and also decreases the computational power and time. Then we applied a purposed model Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) that is based on Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Dropout, Dense and Softmax layer. As a result, the purposed method is more competitive compared to other methods.

Cardiovascular diseases are considered to be the leading cause of disability and deaths in the whole world. The major cause behind this disease is the formation of lipid plagues in the form of thrombus. The statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors) are used for the treatment and prevention of hyperlipidemia. Myopathy is the major side effect caused by statins. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of statin induced myopathy. A cross-sectional study design was adopted using convenient random sampling technique at Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore Pakistan from November 2016 to February 2017. A total of 300 male and female patients were included having age range of 40-80 years. Data was collected directly from the patients and prevalence of myalgia was determined by the symptoms of the patients. Creatine Phospho Kinase levels were obtained of those patients showing symptoms. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 21. The results showed that 51% patients were myalgic with mean±SEM, 1.49±0.29. Myalgia was more prevalent in age range 40-50, with females 57% and males 47%. Significant relation was found between myalgia and type of statin (p=0.05), duration of use of statin (p=0.036) and dose of statin (p=0.031). The study concludes that the prevalence of myalgia was not significant but females were more prone to myalgic symptoms as compared to males. It was further concluded that myalgic symptoms were directly related to dose and duration & type of statin use.

This study was planned to evaluate sample wise isolation and antimicrobial resistant trends of Acinetobacter spp in different departments of a tertiary care hospital. This was a transversal descriptive study, carried out in the clinical microbiology laboratory of the Allama Iqbal Medical College/ Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, during the period of January 2015 to December 2016. Every clinical specimen was processed for bacterial culture and antimicrobial susceptibly testing. A total of 3590 (2015=1780, 2016=1810) clinical specimens were processed. Of the total, only 54.7% were gram-negative, among these Acinetobacter spp were isolated from 10.1% and 16.5% samples respectively in 2015-16 with an overall rate of 24.3%. The highest occurrence of Acinetobacter spp isolates was reported from Intensive care units (ICU) (54%) followed by surgical units (25%) and medical units (16%). It is noteworthy that ICU and internal medicine showed the highest resistance rates, whereas, lower resistance rate was observed for the outdoor patients (OPD). Although collistin showed 0% resistant while ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin, and tigecycline showed 90%, 68%, 66%, 66% and 62% resistance against Acinetobacter spp. respectively. An alarming increase in the resistance rate of meropenem, cefoperazone/sulbactam, piperacillin/ tazobactam, ciprofloxacin, and imipenem was observed from the year 2015 to 2016. This startling resistance acquired by Acinetobacter spp. within a period of one year, represent very limited therapeutic options left for the infections caused by Acinetobacter spp. Unavailability of effective drugs and limited therapeutic options enforce the health care practitioners to prescribe expensive and broad range antibiotics, which may cause harm to the patient. Therefore, it is need of an hour to better understand the antimicrobial patterns and optimize antimicrobial prescription policies for the control of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter spp.

OBJECTIVE: To analyse transfusion transmissible infections in asymptomatic population. METHODS: This study was conducted at the Allama Iqbal Medical College and Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, from December 2014 to November 2015, and comprised healthy asymptomatic blood donors.Every sample was screened for the presence of antibodies/antigens of hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus, treponemapallidum, hepatitis B virus and malaria parasite through rapid immunochromatographic technique. RESULTS: Of the 18,274 blood donors, 17,276(94.53%) were found healthy and 998(5.46%) were infected. Besides, 71(0.38%) had multiple infections. The overall frequency of anti-hepatitis C virus, treponemapallidum (syphilis), hepatitis B surface antigen, malaria parasite and anti-human immunodeficiency virus was 480(2.62%), 284(1.55%), 210(1.10%), 20(0.10%) and 4(0.02%), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Blood transfusion was found to be a significant but preventable mode of spread of transfusion transmissible infections.

BACKGROUND: Spinal anaesthesia is technique of choice for caesarean sections and hyperbaric bupivacaine is a recommended drug for this popular block. Although safe but few complications are haemodynamic changes, postdural puncture headache, cauda equina syndrome and radiculopathy. However, hypotension remains the common side effect which is believed to occur in 95% of patients resulting in reduction of uteroplacental perfusion causing foetal acid-base abnormalities. Various doses regimes are in safe anaesthesia practice for providing regional anaesthesia for such patients with least detrimental effects on foetal outcome. This study was carried out to find the effective dose of 0.5 % hyperbaric bupivacaine in caesarean section patients by comparing two different doses. METHODS: After enrolling two hundred patients of C section (Caesarean section) for this study, 90 patients were selected to compare the effects of 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacaine. Group A (n=45) received 10 mg of drug while group B (n=45) received 12 mg for spinal anaesthesia. Onset of block, sensory and motor level, haemodynamic changes, surgery time, maternal satisfaction, Apgar score and incidence of complications were compared in two groups. RESULTS: Blood pressure decreases were less in Group A (p-0.074) but not statistically significant. Phenylephrine for hypotension was given to 17% vs 5% in group B. Maternal satisfaction was found to be better in group B 33 vs 17 but was statistically significant (p 0.034). 2% patients had bradycardia in group A which was treated by atropine. No complications were reported in either group. CONCLUSIONS: Doses of hyperbaric bupivacaine for spinal anaesthesia in caesarean sections must be at least 12 mg because it produces excellent anaesthesia and maternal satisfaction without complications.

OBJECTIVE: To develop and evaluate a more structured process for effective tuberculosis control monitoring. METHODS: The quasi-experimental exploratory study was conducted from April 2007 to January 2008 in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Eight intervention districts were compared with eight control districts. Intervention consisted of managers using performance monitoring guidelines and tools for monitoring meetings at the facility and district levels. Proportion of tuberculosis suspects among outpatients, registered confirmed cases and patients' default rate were monitored. Semi-structured interviews were done to assess the experience of the participants. RESULTS: The proportion of TB suspects among outpatient attendees was significantly higher in the intervention districts (95% confidence interval 1.6-1.8%). The pre-registration default also showed difference (p=0.07). The case finding during 9 months of the intervention showed 96.3% increase compared to the 9 months of the preceding year. CONCLUSIONS: The new process was effective in improving tuberculosis case finding. The process may be used to improve tuberculosis monitoring systems and other such healthcare services.

OBJECTIVES: In this study, we investigated Ommaya reservoir among pediatric patients, its infection rate, and the predisposing factors. We also investigated its role in the reduction of CSF protein. Finally, we explored other factors that would influence the decision to insert an Ommaya in comparison to external ventricular drainage. METHODS: This is a 6-year retrospective cohort study from a tertiary hospital in Saudi Arabia. RESULTS: In our study, females were 48.9% (n = 22) while males were 51.1% (n = 23). The mean age at insertion was 2.9 days, SD of 1.67 day. The mean weight at insertion was 0.98 kg, SD of 0.57 kg. The total duration of Ommaya days was 2523 days. The median duration of the reservoir was 21 days. The Ommaya reservoir infection rate was 6.6%. We found an association between organisms cultured from urinary tract and the organisms cultured from the CSF. We also found that CSF protein level is lower in non-infected reservoirs in comparison to those with infection. The number of Ommaya days and the number of days of infection could not explain the mean CSF protein. CONCLUSIONS: Ommaya reservoir has a low infection rate. Although CSF protein increased by infection, we failed to prove that Ommaya tapping provides a reduction in the CSF protein and, hence, reduction of shunt malfunctions thereafter. We conclude with expert opinions that take into account the psychological factors in addition to the clinical sense in choosing between Ommaya reservoir and external ventricular drainage (EVD).

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use is responsible for a large proportion of the total disease burden from tuberculosis. Pakistan is one of the 10 high-burden countries for both tuberculosis and tobacco use. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of a behavioral support intervention and bupropion in achieving 6-month continuous abstinence in adult smokers with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis. DESIGN: Cluster randomized, controlled trial. (Current Controlled Trials: ISRCTN08829879) SETTING: Health centers in the Jhang and Sargodha districts in Pakistan. PATIENTS: 1955 adult smokers with suspected tuberculosis. INTERVENTION: Health centers were randomly assigned to provide 2 brief behavioral support sessions (BSS), BSS plus 7 weeks of bupropion therapy (BSS+), or usual care. MEASUREMENTS: The primary end point was continuous abstinence at 6 months after the quit date and was determined by carbon monoxide levels in patients. Secondary end points were point abstinence at 1 and 6 months. RESULTS: Both treatments led to statistically significant relative risks (RRs) for abstinence compared with usual care (RR for BSS+, 8.2 [95% CI, 3.7 to 18.2]; RR for BSS, 7.4 [CI, 3.4 to 16.4]). Equivalence between the treatments could not be established. In the BSS+ group, 275 of 606 patients (45.4% [CI, 41.4% to 49.4%]) achieved continuous abstinence compared with 254 of 620 (41.0% [CI, 37.1% to 45.0%]) in the BSS group and 52 of 615 (8.5% [CI, 6.4% to 10.9%]) in the usual care group. There was substantial heterogeneity of program effects across clusters. LIMITATIONS: Imbalances in the urban and rural proportions and smoking habits among treatment groups, and inability to confirm adherence to bupropion treatment and validate longer-term abstinence or the effect of smoking cessation on tuberculosis outcomes. CONCLUSION: Behavioral support alone or in combination with bupropion is effective in promoting cessation in smokers with suspected tuberculosis. The present study is the first of its kind being reported for an indigenous sheep breed of Pakistan with objectives to (a) assess the diagnostic efficacy of a human-based "serum hemolysis reference palette" for sheep serum, (b) deduce normal reference intervals (RIs) for hemoglobin (Hb) and bilirubin, and (c) devise a novel serum color chart for on-field estimation of Hb and bilirubin through color matching of sheep serum. Apparently, healthy Sipli sheep (n = 130) were bled twice attaining whole blood and serum samples (n = 260). The study animals were grouped on the basis of gender, that is, males (n = 51) and females (n = 79) and age, that is, G1 (up till 1 year) (n = 41), G2 (from 1 to 2 years) (n = 46), and G3 (from 2 to 3 years) (n = 43). None of the 260 serum samples of the sheep matched the color given on the human-based "hemolysis reference palette." The G1 animals revealed marked variation in their serum color. Hence, on the basis of RIs, the serum samples (n = 178) of adult sheep (G2 and G3) showing three main color bands were used in devising a novel serum Hb and bilirubin estimation chart for adult sheep serum. In conclusion, the human-based serum hemolysis palette is not valid for sheep serum. The RIs attained in the study could provide a yardstick for assessment of health in indigenous sheep breeds whereas the serum color chart may be of value in estimating Hb and bilirubin in a quick, reliable, and cheaper way for the resource-poor settings of the world.

The bioactive extracts of traditional medicinal plants are rich in polyphenols and help to rejuvenate skin. The study was designed to assess the skin rejuvenating effects of a stable cream enriched with 4% I. argentea (IaMe) extract. The quantity of polyphenols by spectrophotometric methods was TPC, 101.55 ± 0.03 mg GAE/g and total flavonoid content; 77.14 ± 0.13 mg QE/g, while HPLC-PDA revealed gallic acid; 4.91, chlorogenic acid 48.12, p-coumaric acid 0.43, and rutin 14.23 µg/g. The significant results of biological activities were observed as DPPH; 81.81% ± 0.05%, tyrosinase; 72% ± 0.23% compared to ascorbic acid (92.43% ± 0.03%), and kojic acid (78.80% ± 0.19%) respectively. Moreover, the promising sun protection effects Sun protection factor of extract (20.53) and formulation (10.59) were observed. The active cream formulation (w/o emulsion) was developed with liquid paraffin, beeswax, IaMe extract, and ABIL EM 90, which was stable for 90 days as shown by various stability parameters. The rheological results demonstrated the active formulation's non-Newtonian and pseudo-plastic characteristics and nearly spherical globules by SEM. The IaMe loaded cream was further investigated on human trial subjects for skin rejuvenating effects and visualized in 3D skin images. Herein, the results were significant compared to placebo. IaMe formulation causes a substantial drop in skin melanin from -1.70% (2 weeks) to -10.8% (12 weeks). Furthermore, it showed a significant increase in skin moisture and elasticity index from 7.7% to 39.15% and 2%-30%, respectively. According to the findings, Indigofera argentea extract has promising bioactivities and skin rejuvenating properties, rationalizing the traditional use and encouraging its exploitation for effective and economical cosmeceuticals.

In the context of deep well drilling, the addition of functionalized additives into mud systems becomes imperative due to the adverse impact of elevated borehole temperatures and salts on conventional additives, causing them to compromise their intrinsic functionalities. Numerous biomaterials have undergone modifications and have been evaluated in drilling muds. However, the addition of dually modified tapioca starch in bentonite-free mud systems remains a notable gap within the existing literature. This study aims to examine the performance of dually modified carboxymethyl irradiated tapioca starch (CMITS) under high temperature and salt-containing conditions employing central composite design approach; the study evaluates the modified starch's impact on mud rheology, thermal stability, and salt resistance. The findings indicated that higher DS (0.66) and CMITS concentrations (8 ppb) improved plastic viscosity (PV), yield point (YP) and gel strength (GS), while increased salt and temperature decreased it, demonstrating the complex interplay of these factors on mud rheology. The developed empirical models suggested that DS 0.66 starch addition enhanced rheology, especially at elevated temperatures, demonstrating improved borehole cleaning potential, supported by quadratic model performance indicators in line with American Petroleum Institute (API) ranges. The optimized samples showed a non-Newtonian behavior, and Power-law model fitting yields promising results for improved cuttings transportation with starch additives.

With an ever-increasing number of mobile users, the development of mobile applications (apps) has become a potential market during the past decade. Billions of users download mobile apps for divergent use from Google Play Store, fulfill tasks and leave comments about their experience. Such reviews are replete with a variety of feedback that serves as a guide for the improvement of existing apps and intuition for novel mobile apps. However, application reviews are challenging and very broad to approach. Such reviews, when segregated into different classes guide the user in the selection of suitable apps. This study proposes a framework for analyzing the sentiment of reviews for apps of eight different categories like shopping, sports, casual, etc. A large dataset is scrapped comprising 251661 user reviews with the help of 'Regular Expression' and 'Beautiful Soup'. The framework follows the use of different machine learning models along with the term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) for feature extraction. Extensive experiments are performed using preprocessing steps, as well as, the stats feature of app reviews to evaluate the performance of the models. Results indicate that combining the stats feature with TF-IDF shows better performance and the support vector machine obtains the highest accuracy. Experimental results can potentially be used by other researchers to select appropriate models for the analysis of app reviews. In addition, the provided dataset is large, diverse, and balanced with eight categories and 59 app reviews and provides the opportunity to analyze reviews using state-of-the-art approaches.

Typha domingensis, a medicinal plant with significant traditional importance for curing various human diseases, has potentially bioactive compounds but was less explored previously. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the therapeutic potential of T. domingensis by evaluating the phytochemical profile through high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) techniques and its biological activities (in vitro and in vivo) from the methanolic extract derived from the entire plant (TDME). The secondary metabolite profile of TDME regulated by reverse phase ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (RP-UHPLC-MS) revealed some bioactive compounds by -ve and +ve modes of ionization. The HPLC quantification study showed the precise quantity of polyphenols (p-coumaric acid, 207.47; gallic acid, 96.25; and kaempferol, 95.78 µg/g extract). The enzyme inhibition assays revealed the IC50 of TDME as 44.75 ± 0.51, 52.71 ± 0.01, and 67.19 ± 0.68 µgmL-1, which were significant compared to their respective standards (indomethacin, 18.03 ± 0.12; quercetin, 4.11 ± 0.01; and thiourea, 8.97 ± 0.11) for lipoxygenase, α-glucosidase, and urease, respectively. Safety was assessed by in vitro hemolysis (4.25% ± 0.16% compared to triton × 100, 93.51% ± 0.36%), which was further confirmed (up to 10 g/kg) by an in vivo model of rats. TDME demonstrated significant (p < 0.05) potential in analgesic activity by hot plate and tail immersion tests and anti-inflammatory activity by the carrageenan-induced hind paw edema model. Pain latency decreased significantly, and the anti-inflammatory effect increased in a dose-dependent way. Additionally, in silico molecular docking revealed that 1,3,4,5-tetracaffeoylquinic acid and formononetin 7-O-glucoside-6″-O-malonate possibly contribute to enzyme inhibitory activities due to their higher binding affinities compared to standard inhibitors. An in silico absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicological study also predicted the pharmacokinetics and safety of the chosen compounds identified from TDME. To sum up, it was shown that TDME contains bioactive chemicals and has strong biological activities. The current investigations on T. domingensis could be extended to explore its potential applications in nutraceutical industries and encourage the isolation of novel molecules with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the level of quality of life (QOL) in patients suffering from various cardiac, cancer, hepatic, and dermatological diseases. METHOD: A total of 339 patients of cardiac, cancer, hepatic, and dermatological diseases from DHQ/Allied hospitals of Faisalabad participated in this study through purposive convenient sampling technique. Quality of life was measured by WHO QOL-BREF (Validated Urdu Version) while demographic variables were recorded on a demographic sheet. The results were obtained by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) on SPSS 13. RESULTS: Out of 339, 156 (46%) patients were males while 183 (54%) patients were females. Of the total, 99 (29.2%) belonged to the lower socio economic status, 113 (33.3%) belonged to the lower middle, 62 (18.3%) belonged to the middle, and 65 (19.2%) belonged to the upper middle socio economic status. In terms of education, 49 (14.5%) were illiterate, 110 (32.3%) had primary level education, 118 (34.8%) had middle level education, 21 (6.2%) had done matriculation, 17 (5%) had intermediate, 14 (4.1%) were graduates, 8 (2.4%) had done masters. Of the whole lot, only 2 (0.6%) patients were professionals. Results showed that the quality of life was most deteriorated in the domain of physical health; while psychological health was the second most deteriorated domain. Social relationship was the least affected domain, while environment was the second least affected area. Quality of life of hepatic patients was significantly lower than dermatological patients with respect to physical health and environment, lower than cancer patients in relation to psychological health, and lower than cardiac patients in the social relationship domain. The quality of life of cardiac patients was noted to be significantly higher than the other three categories in the domains of psychological health and environment. CONCLUSION: In the face of the evidence of high deterioration in the quality of life of the patients in terms of physical and psychological health, medical units should be better equipped with facilities to enhance a sense of betterment in patients. The treating doctors should be better trained to give due consideration to this important aspect of management. Moreover, the role of liaison psychiatry should also be incorporated.

Linear fracturing fluid (LFF) provides viscosity driven benefits of proppant suspensibility and fluid loss control, and with the use of a breaker agent, flowback recovery can be greatly enhanced. Shale tensile strength is critical in the prediction of fracture initiation and propagation, but its behavior under the interaction with LFF at reservoir temperature conditions remains poorly understood. This necessitated an in-depth investigation into the tensile strengths of Eagle Ford and Wolfcamp shales under thermally conditioned LFF and reservoir temperature controlled conditions. Brazilian Indirect Tensile Strength (BITS) testing was carried out for the quantitative evaluation of shale tensile strength, followed by extensive failure pattern classifications and surface crack length analysis. The thermally conditioned LFF saturation of shale samples led to average tensile strength (ATS) increases ranging from 26.33-51.33% for Wolfcamp. Then, for the Eagle Ford samples, ATS increases of 3.94 and 6.79% and decreases of 3.13 and 15.35% were recorded. The exposure of the samples to the temperature condition of 90 °C resulted in ATS increases of 24.46 and 33.78% for Eagle Ford and Wolfcamp shales, respectively. Then, for samples exposed to 220 °C, ATS decreases of 6.11 and 5.32% were respectively recorded for Eagle Ford and Wolfcamp shales. The experimental results of this research will facilitate models' development towards tensile strength predictions and failure pattern analysis and quantifications in the LFF driven hydraulic fracturing of shale gas reservoirs.

Fetal ventriculomegaly refers to ventricular enlargement that is diagnosed prenatally. It is one of the most common fetal anomalies. The diagnosis is made by ultrasound when the arterial diameter of the ventricle is more than 10 mm. Once it is diagnosed, further evaluation by detailed ultrasound, fetal MRI, and genetic studies is required. Prenatal surgical management of fetal ventriculomegaly is still limited and associated with high risks. Postnatal management is similar to the treatment of other types of hydrocephalus. Fetal ventriculomegaly is a heterogeneous condition with various etiologies and a wide spectrum of neurodevelopmental outcomes. The outcomes depend mainly on the severity of ventriculomegaly and associated structural abnormalities. This article aims to review the literature about various aspects of fetal ventriculomegaly.
