RESUMO

The level of antibodies to the ribosomes, polysaccharide A and peptidoglycan of group A streptococcus in the blood of patients with primary, secondary, and often relapsing erysipelas was studied by means of the enzyme immunoassay with the use of the sandwich techniques. For control, the sera of healthy donors were used. In the sera obtained from all groups of erysipelas patients a significant rise in the levels of antibodies to ribosomes and peptidoglycan in comparison with the controls was revealed. An increase in the level of antibodies to polysaccharide A was revealed only in patients with frequently relapsing and secondary erysipelas. Depending on the clinical form and the duration of the disease, polysaccharide A was detected in 32-51.9% of erysipelas patients and protein-ribosomal antigen was detected in 28.6-51.9% of such patients.

RESUMO

The localization of bound IgG, IgA, IgM and component C3 of the complement in the focus of skin lesion in patients with different forms of erysipelas has been studied by the method of direct immunofluorescence. The presence of fixed immune complexes and component C3 in the affected areas of the skin at the acute period of the disease and their absence in the healthy areas of the skin have been established, which seems to be indicative of the presence of the local immunocomplex process in erysipelas. This process is one of the mechanisms of erysipelatous inflammation.

RESUMO

A case of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in a 37-year-old female is described which was primarily diagnosed as epilepsy. Immunopathologically, an immunoglobulin in the nuclei of the majority of cells in the skin biopsy and blood cells was found against the background of the lack of SLE manifestations (antinuclear factor in the circulating blood, skin lesions, etc.). Antibodies against the antigen of vascular intima are revealed in the blood by means of the indirect immunofluorescence. The epilepsy diagnosis was established due to the prevalence of the brain vessels affection (frequent loss of consciousness). The progression of the disease with the involvement of joints, heart, lungs and other organs, high indexes of the rheumatoid factor made it necessary to differentiate between rheumatoid arthritis and SLE. The immunopathological examination confirmed the SLE diagnosis. Hemosorption combined with a standard therapy was followed by the decrease of the immunopathological manifestations.

RESUMO

AIM: To study the time of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of spin-lattice serum relaxation (T1) in the dynamics of an infectious process in patients with different forms of erysipelas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 37 patients with different clinical forms of erysipelas were examined in the acute period of the disease and in the early period of convalescence. RESULTS: A statistically significant increase in T1 NMR was ascertained in patients with bullous hemorrhagic erysipelas as compared with those with erythematous form. CONCLUSION: Pronounced changes in the functional status of serum in patients with hemorrhagic forms of erysipelas are of great importance in the development of the local hemorrhagic syndrome.

RESUMO

Use was made of the ELISA to develop a highly sensitive quantitative method for detection of antibodies against Streptococcus group A polysaccharide (polysaccharide A) in human sera. The main advantage is that one can use only one optimal dilution of the sera together with the reference serum. Sera of 53 healthy volunteers and 77 patients with a history of Streptococcus group A infections were screened for the presence of polysaccharide A antibodies. Highly reproducible results were obtained in 97% of cases. The specificity of the method was shown with the polysaccharide A-induced inhibition of the reaction. Positive reactions obtained with the tested sera in gel immunodiffusion correlated with the data derived by the ELISA. Using the latter high level of specific antibodies was found in some of the sera that yielded negative reactions when tested by gel immunodiffusion. This may be associated with the presence of non-precipitating antibodies.
