RESUMO

Chlorophenol and Congo Red dye being highly toxic are well known for their carcinogenic activity. This work focuses on preparing an organogel for the removal of both chlorophenol and Congo Red. PAni molecules were grafted in situ between the layers of montmorillonite (MMT) to form a PAni/MMT composite, which was further modified to form a gel structure. The composite was thoroughly characterized by high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The gel was further analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and by studying the rheological properties. The resulting gel exhibited an impressive solvent uptake, with a maximum of 2084% (20 times) for chlorophenol, while the dye adsorption capacity was 349.72 mg/g with 99.44% removal efficiency. The adsorption proceeded with the pseudo-second-order model followed by the Langmuir monolayer adsorption model and Weber's intraparticle diffusion model. The sorbent was found to be selective among cationic dyes while retaining 83% of dye even in the fifth cycle. The hybrid sorbent shows great promise for sustainable purposes, and the results of this study are certainly encouraging.

RESUMO

The uses of highly luminescent perovskite quantum dots in real analytical detection were limited by their supersensitive nature. Here, we have designed a CsPbBr3 perovskite based fluorometric sensor by integrating them with a zeolitic imidazole framework (ZIF-8) via an in situ one step technique and established its stability in aqueous and other polar solvents. The CsPbBr3@ZIF-8 luminescence sensor functioned excellently for the trace detection of 4-nitroaniline and rhodamine blue dye molecules with a detection limit value of 8.367 ppb and 0.088 ppm, respectively. A comprehensive investigation found that the quenching of the fluorescence signal occurred via fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) for rhodamine blue dye and a H-bonding interaction induced trap density mediated quenching mechanism was responsible for 4-NA detection. The potential of this suggested sensor as a cheap portable test paper probe for analyte detection was also explored. This study introduces CsPbBr3 as a cutting-edge sensing platform for industrial pollutants such as dye molecules and nitroaromatics.

RESUMO

Gelatin, being a naturally derived biomacromolecule shows good biocompatibility and biodegradability and hence turn out to be a potential biomaterial in synthesizing adhesive hydrogel. However, to achieve significant adhesive strength under wet condition and good mechanical properties, gelatin is functionalised with dopamine and acrylic acid. Here, inspired from nature, we have developed a gelatin based adhesive hydrogel for wet surfaces by incorporating dopamine into gelatin-poly(acrylic acid) chain. The synthesized hydrogel demonstrate good mechanical strength, high stretchability, reversibility, self-healing and dynamic adhesive behaviour along with long term reusability. The adhesive strength of the synthesized hydrogel to tissue surface was found to be 6.5 KPa when applied under submerged condition. Moreover, the swelling behaviour of the hydrogel reveals that hydrogel have limited swellability thereby retaining adhesive property under fully swollen state. Haemolysis results reveals the biocompatible nature of the hydrogel. Thus this hydrogel emerge to be a promising bioadhesive for application in various fields mostly in biomedical devices.

RESUMO

In this novel study, an attempt has been made to prepare porous crosslinked poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) polymer (C-EVA). The porous C-EVA was prepared by grafting of maleic anhydride and cetyl alcohol onto the polymer backbone with addition of NaCl as porogen in the brabender mixture at 120 °C and 80 rpm. This was followed by leaching of NaCl with water extraction to generate a highly porous polymer structure which was evident from its SEM micrographs. The polymer was found to have excellent swelling capacity in various oils and organic solvents and showed good selective absorption capacity. The reusability of the synthesized polymer was studied and it was found that it could be reused for more than 30 absorption desorption cycles without undergoing much change in its absorption capacity. The cross-linked polymeric composite was further characterized by FTIR, TGA, XRD, and SEM.
