RESUMO

Dysglycemia are involved in the development of functional impairment after acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between acute glycemic variability and functional outcome in patients with AIS. Cohort studies were obtained by search Medline, Web of Science, Embase, Wanfang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases from inception to November, 2021. A random-effect model which incorporates the intra-study heterogeneity was chosen to pool the results. Ten cohort studies including 3038 patients were included, and 1319 (43.4%) had poor functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale >2) up to three months after disease onset. Pooled results showed that higher acute GV was associated with an increased risk of poor functional outcome, as evidenced by GV evaluated by the standard deviation of blood glucose (SDBG, OR: 1.91, 95% CI: 1.38 to 2.65, I2=60%, p<0.001), the coefficient of variation of blood glucose (OR: 2.03, 95% CI: 1.15 to 3.58, I2=17%, p=0.02), the range of glucose (OR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.11 to 1.83, I2=22%, p=0.005), and the mean amplitude of glycemic excursion (OR: 1.59, 95% CI: 1.10 to 2.31, I2=0%, p=0.01). Subgroup analyses did not support that difference in study design, treatments for AIS, mean age of the patients, duration for GV measuring, or study quality would significantly affect the association between SDBG and functional outcome after AIS. In conclusion, higher acute glycemic variability may predict poor functional outcome within 3 months after AIS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We conducted a cross-sectional study to investigate the associations between domestic pets and respiratory health in children. METHODS: We randomly recruited 11,611 school children from Zhongshan, a southern city in China. Information about the respiratory symptoms and disease history of the recruited children, the status of domestic pets, and other related risk factors were collected from March to July 2016. RESULTS: We identified cat-keeping at home increases the risk of persistent cough (OR, 1.77; 95%CI, 1.03-3.05); poultry-keeping at home increases the risk of current asthma (OR, 3.87; 95%CI, 1.08-13.92) and allergic rhinitis (OR, 1.84; 95%CI, 1.01-3.37); sleeping with pets increases the risk of persistent phlegm (OR, 5.04; 95%CI, 1.05-24.28), doctor-diagnosed asthma (OR, 3.35; 95%CI, 1.31-8.57) and current asthma (OR, 4.94; 95%CI, 1.05-23.31) in children. CONCLUSIONS: Cat-keeping and molds on the wall of the house had the multiplicative and additive interaction in doctor-diagnosed asthma. In conclusion, pet-keeping increased the risk of respiratory symptoms in children.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the reperfusion therapy for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. Huizhou City utilized its experience with the SARS and MERS breakouts to establish a reperfusion treatment program for AIS patients. METHOD: This is a retrospective study on 8 certified stroke hospitals in Huizhou City from January 2020 to May 2020. We analyzed the number of AIS patients with reperfusion therapy, stroke type (anterior/posterior circulation stroke), modes of transport to hospital, NIHSS score, onset to door time (ODT), door to needle time (DNT), and door to puncture time (DPT). The analysis was compared with baseline data from the same time period in 2019. RESULT: In 2020, the number of AIS patients receiving reperfusion therapy decreased (315 vs. 377), NIHSS score increased [8 (4, 15) vs. 7 [ (1, 2)], P = 0.024], ODT increased [126 (67.5, 210.0) vs. 120.0 (64.0, 179.0), P = 0.032], and DNT decreased [40 (32.5, 55) vs. 48 (36, 59), P = 0.003]. DPT did not change. Seventy percent of AIS patients indicated self-visit as their main mode of transport to the hospital. In both periods, mild stroke patients were more likely to self-visit than utilize emergency systems [2019: 152 (57.6%) vs. 20 (45.6%), P = 0.034; 2020: 123 (56.9%) vs. 5 (14.7%), P < 0.001]. The NIHSS score for self-visiting patients was lower for patients who utilized the ambulance system in both years [self-visit: 6.00 (3.00, 12.00), ambulance: 14.00 (9.00, 19.00), P < 0.001]. The volume of reperfusion patients was lower in 2020; however, the decrease was only significant (P = 0.028) in February 2020. CONCLUSION: During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the number of AIS patients receiving reperfusion therapy significantly decreased when compared to the same period in 2019. The patients' condition increased severity, ODT increased, and the DNT decreased. DPT was not significant for self-visiting and ambulance patients. Moderate to severe stroke patients were more likely to utilize ambulance services.

RESUMO

In recent years, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has witnessed rapid progress. Nevertheless, the pervasive defects prone to non-radiative recombination and decomposition exist at the surface and the grain boundaries (GBs) of the polycrystalline perovskite films. Herein, we report a comprehensive dual-passivation (DP) strategy to effectively passivate the defects at both surface and GBs to enhance device performance and stability further. Firstly, a fluorinated perylene-tetracarboxylic diimide derivative is permeated in the perovskite metaphase during antisolvent treatment, and then a fluorinated bulky aromatic ammonium salt is introduced over the annealed perovskite. The reduction of defect density can be unambiguously proved by the superoxide species generation/quenching reaction. As a result, optimized planar PSCs demonstrate a decreased open-circuit voltages deficit from 0.47 to 0.39 V and the best efficiency of 23.80 % from photocurrent scanning with a stabilized maximum power output efficiency of 22.99 %. Without encapsulation, one typical device can maintain over 85 % of the initial efficiency after heating on a hot plate at 100 °C for 30 h under relative humidity (RH) of 70 %. When the device is aged under 30±5 % RH, over 97 % of its initial PCE is retained after 1700 h.

RESUMO

Naphthalocyanine derivatives (SiNcTI-N and SiNcTI-Br) were firstly used as excellent cathode interlayer materials (CIMs) in organic solar cells, via introducing four electron-withdrawing imide groups and two hydrophilic alkyls. Both of them showed deep LUMO energy levels (below -3.90 eV), good thermal stability (Td >210 °C), and strong self-doping property. The SiNcTI-Br CIM displayed high conductivity (4.5×10-5  S cm-1 ) and electron mobility (7.81×10-5  cm2 V-1 s-1 ), which could boost the efficiencies of the PM6:Y6-based OSCs over a wide range of CIM layer thicknesses (4-25 nm), with maximum efficiency of 16.71 %.

RESUMO

The numerical simulation of concrete at small scales often requires the knowledge of the mechanical properties of the constitutive phases. To obtain more information to serve as the inputs in numerical simulation, an experimental investigation was conducted to characterize the nanomechanical properties of geopolymer/cement matrix in full-green recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). A two-step mixing procedure was applied to prepare RAC samples. Two water/cement (w/c) ratios were employed for the geopolymeric RAC (GRAC) to investigate the influence of the w/c ratio on nanomechanical properties of geopolymer matrix in RAC. By the grid nanoindentation technique, it was found that the geopolymer matrix in GRAC has an elastic modulus of 13.54 GPa and 10.38 GPa for the w/c ratio of 0.4 and 0.45, respectively. The cement matrix in the RAC (w/c ratio of 0.5) has an elastic modulus of 20.38 GPa.

RESUMO

Bamboo, featuring fast growth rate and high cellulose content, is considered to be one of the most attractive feedstocks for degradable bio-materials as a substitute for plastics. However, those was limited to the fields of bamboo structural materials mainly by physical processes. Herein, we report a facile continuous wet extrusion strategy for scalable manufacturing of anisotropic regenerated cellulose films in alkali/urea aqueous solution for the first time. The bamboo cellulose solution was regenerated in H2SO4/Na2SO4/ZnSO4 aqueous solution to facilitate the construction of dense fibrils networks. Moreover, under the synergistic effect of shear orientations and stretching processes in wet extrusion molding, the cellulose networks promoted further orientated assembly into aligned fibrils. Therefore, these anisotropic cellulose hydrogels exhibited good mechanical properties, and the tensile strength was increased from 1.67 MPa of anisotropic cellulose hydrogel with 1.0 of stretching ration (ACH-1.0) to 2.13 MPa of ACH-1.4 with increasing stretching ratio from 1.0 to 1.4, which was about 1.34 times higher than that of the isotropic hydrogel fabricated by tape-casting. Moreover, ACH-1.4 exhibited commendable thermal stability and air barrier properties. This work demonstrated a simple and continuous bottom-up approach for fabrication of anisotropic bamboo-based cellulose hydrogels and films with excellent mechanical properties.

RESUMO

What is already known about this topic?: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) reinfection by variants is being reported commonly and has caused waves of epidemic in many countries. Because of dynamic zero policy, the SARS-CoV-2 reinfection was less reported in China. What is added by this report?: SARS-CoV-2 reinfections were observed in Guangdong Province between December 2022 and January 2023. This study estimated that the reinfection incidence was 50.0% for the original strain primary infections, 35.2% for the Alpha or Delta variants, and 18.4% for the Omicron variant; The reinfection incidence within 3-6 months after primary infection by Omicron variant was 4.0%. Besides, 96.2% reinfection cases were symptomatic while only 7.7% sought medical attention. What are the implications for public health practice?: These findings suggest a reduced likelihood of an Omicron-driven epidemic resurgence in the short term but emphasize the importance of maintaining vigilant surveillance of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants and conducting population-based antibody level surveys to inform response preparedness.

RESUMO

Glioma is a complex tumor composed of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic cells, including tumor-infiltrating leukocytes (TILs), and each cell type contributes to tumor formation and malignant progression. Among TILs, tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are of great importance and play a key role in the immune response to cancer. In this study, 22 types of adaptive and innate TILs were evaluated in gliomas. TAMs, which account for 38.7% of all these cells, are the most abundant immune infiltrates in the tumor microenvironment. In addition, we observed different immune cell patterns in low-grade glioma and glioblastoma. Our research indicated that there was a connection between TILs, and 13 of 22 TILs were significantly associated with patient outcomes. Finally, the prognosis and diagnostic value of TAMs were revealed using Kaplan-Meier analysis. We identified the optimal cutoff point of TAMs at an infiltrating level of 0.47 to predict patient prognosis, with a median overall survival of 448 days in patients with higher TAM infiltration levels and 2660 days in patients with lower TAM infiltration levels. These findings provide a new idea for glioma to regulate tumor-specific immunity, clarify the potential effects of TAMs on disease pathology, and provide a theoretical basis for immune intervention treatment of gliomas.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Increased glucose fluctuation has been related to poor prognosis in patients with critical illnesses, while its prognostic role in patients with acute stroke remains unknown. The meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between the acute glycemic variation (GV) and mortality risk in patients with acute stroke. METHODS: Cohort studies were obtained by searching Medline, Web of Science, Embase, Wanfang and CNKI databases. A random-effect model which incorporates the intra-study heterogeneity was chosen to pool the results. RESULTS: Ten cohort studies with 1433 patients were included, and 280 (19.5%) of them died within 90 days of disease onset. Results of the meta-analyses showed that a higher acute GV was associated with an increased risk of early mortality in patients with acute stroke, as indicated by GV measured with the coefficient of variation of blood glucose (CVBG, odds ratio [OR]: 2.24, 95% CI 1.40 to 3.58, p < 0.001, I2 = 73%), the standard deviation of blood glucose (SDBG, OR: 2.31, 95% CI 1.70 to 3.13, p < 0.001, I2 = 50%), and the mean amplitude of glycemic excursion (OR: 3.57, 95% CI 1.44 to 8.85, p = 0.006, I2 = 23%). For acute GV measured with CVBG and SDBG, subgroup analyses showed consistent results in patients with acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, and for studies reporting 28-day and 90-day all-cause mortality (p for subgroup analysis all > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Higher acute GV may be an independent risk factor of early mortality in patients with acute stroke.

RESUMO

The vibration and noise radiation from underwater structures can be harmful for aquatic ecosystems, especially for endangered species which are sensitive to particle motion and sound pressure. In this study, a water supply pipeline was chosen to investigate the flow-induced vibration and underwater noise radiation. A finite element model was developed to predict the vibration of the pipeline-tunnel-soil coupling system using fluid-structure interaction analysis. Next, a three-demission boundary element acoustic model was developed to simulate underwater noise radiation and propagation. Parametric analysis was conducted to investigate the influence of scouring depth on vibration and acoustic radiation. The results showed the flowing fluid-induced vibration produced broad band noise radiation, with dominant frequency range from 3 to 25 Hz. The sound pressure radiated from the model with once-in-a-century scouring depth was about 3 dB larger than the model with normal depth due to thinner sediment. The sourcing depth has significant influence on the noise distribution and radiation directivity. The simulated sound pressure level and water particle motion can exceed the threshold of some underwater species in certain frequency range, especially for the once-in-a-century scouring depth. The proposed methodology can be used for acoustic radiation prediction in further study to reduce the influence on aquatic environment.

RESUMO

Ten subphthalocyanine triimides (SubPcTI) with different substituents at imide sites and B atoms were designed and synthesized. These compounds with low-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels (from -3.91 to -3.98 eV), strong absorption in the range of 450-650 nm, and adjustable solubility are expected to be excellent electron acceptors. Non-fullerene bulk heterojunction organic solar cells based on acceptor 8c showed power conversion efficiency of 4.92%, which is the highest value among subphthalocyanine derivatives.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To examine the effect of nutritional education on children's breakfast patterns. METHODS: A kindergarten based nutrition intervention was started in September 2001 among 8 kindergartens in Hefei with a total of 2,012 children aged 4-6 years and their parent pairs. RESULTS: Monthly nutrition education sessions were held over two semesters in kindergartens part of the intervention arm. The approach in education and the content of other activities were uniform across all the kindergartens. A validated questionnaire was used to record breakfast behavior over 7 days including at least one weekend. The parents recorded the children's breakfast pattern (frequency, time, and food selection) at baseline, middle, and end of the study. After intervention, there were significant differences at the final stage, but none at the baseline before intervention. There were changes not only in breakfast frequency, but also in the breakfast selection. CONCLUSION: The breakfast pattern of Chinese children can be modified through nutrition education after a long term intervention.

RESUMO

In this study, Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) was immobilized on SBA-15 with three pore diameters. CALB loading was found increased with CALB concentration increasing from 20.3 to 80.12µg/ml. Higher CALB loading was observed from SBA-15 with pore diameters at 8.1nm (SBA-15(8.1)), yet highest hydrolytic activity was found at SBA-15(12.5). Thermal stability of the immobilized CALB (SBA-15-CALB) samples was greatly influenced by their water content, after 4h storage at 70°C, 8.93 and 67.4% of the initial activity was observed from SBA-15-CALB samples with water content at 9.23 and 3.22% respectively. The SBA-15-CALB samples were then used in glycerolysis of corn oil, and 53.6wt% of diacylglycerols was obtained after optimization. The operational stability was tested, and after 5 consecutive applications, 92.5 and 80.3% of the initial glycerolysis activity was remained respectively from SBA-15(6.6)-CALB and SBA-15(12.5)-CALB.

RESUMO

To facilitate an in-depth process understanding, and offer opportunities for developing control strategies to ensure product quality, a combination of experimental design, optimization and multivariate techniques was integrated into the process development of a drug product. A process DOE was used to evaluate effects of the design factors on manufacturability and final product CQAs, and establish design space to ensure desired CQAs. Two types of analyses were performed to extract maximal information, DOE effect & response surface analysis and multivariate analysis (PCA and PLS). The DOE effect analysis was used to evaluate the interactions and effects of three design factors (water amount, wet massing time and lubrication time), on response variables (blend flow, compressibility and tablet dissolution). The design space was established by the combined use of DOE, optimization and multivariate analysis to ensure desired CQAs. Multivariate analysis of all variables from the DOE batches was conducted to study relationships between the variables and to evaluate the impact of material attributes/process parameters on manufacturability and final product CQAs. The integrated multivariate approach exemplifies application of QbD principles and tools to drug product and process development.
