To improve the in-situ immobilization effect of diatomite on cadmium (Cd)-contaminated soil, diatomite was modified by hydroxyl iron-aluminum (Fe-Al). The soil incubation experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of Fe/Al molar ratio, OH/cation of molar ratio, pillaring agent aging time, (Fe+Al)/diatomite ratio, pillaring temperature, and pillaring product aging time on the immobilization of Cd in soils. The changes in properties of diatomite before and after modification were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that:the optimal preparation conditions for modification were:Fe/Al molar ratio=1:8, OH/cation molar ratio 2.0-2.2, pillaring agent aging time=2 d, (Fe+Al)/diatomite ratio=10 mmol·g-1, pillaring temperature=60℃, pillaring product aging time=2 d. The hydroxyl-Fe-Al-modified diatomite significantly reduced the content of exchangeable Cd in soil, and the modification reduced soil exchangeable Cd from 11.83% to 39.52%. The SEM and FTIR analyses of hydroxyl-Fe-Al-modified diatomite revealed increase in the specific surface area of diatomite and the amount of the Si-O-H groups. After modification, the hydroxyl-Fe-Al successfully exchanged into the diatom shell forming available pillars, thus increasing channel spacing and enhancing the microporous surface activity. The modification with hydroxyl-Fe-Al increased the immobilization effect of diatomite on Cd in soil. The modification methods and data from this study will help increase the application of diatomite materials for the immobilization of soil containing heavy metals.

ErChen and YinChen decoction (ECYCD) is an effective traditional Chinese medicine and has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), with good curative effects. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these effects are unclear. In this study, we determined the efficacy of ECYCD in a high-fat diet-induced NASH rat model, established by 8-week administration of a high-fat diet. ECYCD was administered daily for 4 weeks, after which the rats were euthanized. The results demonstrated that ECYCD ameliorated high-fat diet-induced NASH, as evidenced by decreased liver indexes, reduced hepatic lipid deposition and liver injury, lower serum biochemistry markers (including low-density lipoprotein), and reduced HOMA-IR scores. Moreover, levels of free fatty acids, tumor necrosis factor, and malondialdehyde were decreased, whereas glutathione was increased in the liver. Serum high-density lipoprotein was also increased in the liver, and ECYCD regulated the c-Jun N-terminal kinase 1 (JNK1) signaling pathway by decreasing the levels of JNK1 protein, JNK1 mRNA, activator protein- (AP-) 1 protein, AP-1 mRNA, and phospho-insulin receptor substrate- (IRS-) 1ser307 and increasing phopsho-PKBser473 levels. These results suggested that ECYCD could ameliorate high-fat diet-induced NASH in rats through JNK1 signaling. ECYCD may be a safe therapeutic option for the treatment of NASH.

Over-interpretation refers to the excessive understanding, translation and explanation of the implications which the research object represents. TCM academic history is a branch of medicine historiography to study the TCM academic development and evolution. Uncertainty of historical materials, incomplete expression of the author's original meaning and deviation of the scholars' interpretation often lead to over-interpretation during the research of TCM academic history.

AIM: To observe the effect of mesenteric lymph duct ligation on free radical and inflammatory mediator of myocardium with severe hemorrhagic shock in rats at different period, and explore the effect of intestinal lymphatic pathway on myocardium injury pathogenesis in shock rats. METHODS: 78 male Wistar rats were divided into the sham group, shock group and ligation group. The model of serious hemorrhagic shock was established in shock group, ligation group, and mesenteric lymph was blocked by ligating mesenteric lymph duct in ligation group after resuscitate. All rats were executed and taken out heart making for homogenate of 10 percent to determine the MDA, SOD, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha), interleukin-6 (IL-6), myeloperoxidase (MPO), NO and NOS at after shock 90 min, after transfusion and resuscitate 0 h, 1 h, 3 h, 6 h, 12 h and 24 h etc. different times, and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) mRNA in myocardium was detected by RT-PCR. RESULTS: The contents of MDA, TNFalpha, IL-6, MPO, NO, NOS and iNOS expression in myocardium of shock group were rising after transfusion and resuscitate, and that was higher level at 3 h to 12 h, and that was significantly higher than sham group, the activity of SOD was significantly lower than sham group. The contents of MDA, TNFalpha, IL-6, MPO, NO, NOS and iNOS expression in myocardium of ligation group were significantly lower than that of shock group at sameness points, and the SOD activity was higher. CONCLUSION: The mesenteric lymph duct ligation and blocking mesenteric lymph could reduce the PMN detaining, decrease the discharging of TNFa and IL-6, reduce the NO and expression of iNOS mRNA, and reduce the releasing of free radical and consuming of SOD.
