RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Rhizobium (Agrobacterium) species are plant aerobic bacteria, which in some cases can produce endophthalmitis in humans after corneal trauma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old female patient presented in the Emergency Department of the Emergency County Hospital of Craiova, Romania, reporting pain, epiphora, and blurry vision in her right eye for about five days. This initial infectious keratitis episode was successfully resolved, but after 20 days she presented again after trauma with a leaf with corneal abscess. In the conjunctival secretion, R. radiobacter was identified. Despite antibiotherapy, the patient's state did not improve, and ultimately the eye was eviscerated. METHODS: A search was performed in the ProQuest, PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases for the terms Agrobacterium, Rhizobium, radiobacter, and eye. We eliminated non-human studies, editorials and commentaries, and non-relevant content, and excluded the duplicates. RESULTS: In total, 138 studies were initially obtained, and then we selected 26 studies for retrieval. After the selection process, we ended up including 17 studies in our analysis. Most studies reported R. radiobacter endophthalmitis after ocular surgical procedures or outdoor activities that involve exposure to soil. CONCLUSION: R. radiobacter is a rare cause of endophthalmitis after eye trauma that generally responds well to usual antibiotherapy, but occasionally can evolve to severe, leading to the loss of the eye.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The paper evaluate the efficiency of macular laser treatment and the identification of the negative or insufficient conditioning factors of this treatment. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study involved 47 patients with type II diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia, with CSME. For all patients, laser macular treatment was realised. The follow-up period varied between 12-42 months. RESULTS: The statistic findings suggest that the laser treatment is efficient for the most important part of the patients, in 12-24 months, only few patients with poor metabolic control or renal failure had poor results. CONCLUSIONS: The macular oedema and macular plaques start to regress 6 months after the laser procedure initiation and become complete after 12-24 months. The hypo or hyperglycemia , the incomplete laser treatment, other general diseases are causes of the therapeutic failure.

RESUMO

We present a case report of a 6-year-old female child, admitted in the Pediatric Clinic, diagnosed with Aplastic Constitutional Hereditary Anaemia (Fanconi Anaemia). On ophthalmic examination, on the left eye were noted important macular edema and a big preretinal haemorrhage of 4 DP situated on the posterior pole. The treatment of the systemic condition established the involution of the ophthalmic manifestations.

RESUMO

We present the case of a female patient, 16-years old, whose the fundus examination revealed the presence, in the macular region, of drusen type lesions; the clinical aspect completed with AFG, perimetry, dark adaptation, ERG resulted in the diagnosis of Doyne's honeycomb retinal dystrophy. The disorder, included in the Familial drusen, is due to an inborn error of metabolism localized the RPE. It seems that the defect is in an intercellular matrix protein which leads to the development of abnormal basement membranes.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim of this paper is to analyse the incidence of neovascular glaucoma on a group of patients treated by laser photocoagulation for proliferative diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular occlusions. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We have studied a group of 277 patients: 112 male and 165 female with ages between 26 and 83 years. 256 patients had proliferative diabetic retinopathy and 21 patients retinal vascular occlusions with ischemic involvement. All this patients were treated with retinal laser photocoagulation. Follow-up period was between 6 months and 2 years. RESULTS: Only 3 patients from the entire group treated with laser photocoagulation had developed neovascular glaucoma. CONCLUSIONS: Prophylactic panretinal photocoagulation is the only method that appears to prevent the neovascular glaucoma and eliminate his devastating complications.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to point out the advantages or the computerised evidence in patients with diabetic retinopathy examined in "Diabetic Eye Department" from Ophthalmology Clinic Craiova. This program represents a new national performance regarding the evidence of the diabetic patients clinic examination. The main characteristics of our program are the accessibility and the coherence; the utility of this program has been demonstrated by long term use and the big number of patents recorded.

RESUMO

It is analyzed, on a retrospective study on 12 years, the incidence of diabetus melitus cases, hospitalized in the Ophthalmologic Clinic from Craiova with special mention to the frequency of the diabetic retinopathy, of it's complications and in an accordance to other general diseases, especially cardiovascular's, which contributes to the aggravation of the diabetic ocular in juries evolution. The study underlines the high incidence of the new founded cases with diabetus melitus in complicated diabetes retinopathy stage; the high frequency of ocular complications is explained, according to our statistic facts and through an insufficient treatment, sometimes incorrect and many other cases total neglected by the patients.

RESUMO

The goal of this study cases are presented in this study. The first case was emphasized in a patient with an epibulbar tumor and the second case was diagnosed with Toxocara Canis. In both cases the ophthalmoscopic images and the clinical evolution were unusual on the other hand etiological diagnosis in both cases was difficult. In the first case, the surgical procedure was effective, but in the second case the specific antiparasitic treatment could not stop the evolution of corioretinal's lesions; it required laser therapy.
