INTRODUCTION: Sleep quality may affect symptom experience in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Our aim was to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms using actigraphy and the experience sampling method. METHODS: Patients with IBS were recruited from a tertiary Neurogastroenterology clinic and the community. GI symptoms and mood were recorded on a smartphone application, 10 times per day, over 7 consecutive days. Subjective sleep quality was recorded every morning to reflect the night before. Objective measures of sleep quality were estimated from wrist-worn actigraphy. Cross-lagged structural equation models were built to assess the directionality of sleep-symptom relationships over time. RESULTS: Eighty patients with IBS completed the study (mean age: 37 years [range 20-68], 89% female, 78% community). Approximately 66% had a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score ≥ 8, indicating a clinically significant sleep disturbance. Approximately 82% (95% CI: 72-90) screened positive for a sleep disorder, most commonly insomnia. In cross-lagged analysis, poor subjective sleep quality predicted next-day abdominal pain (0.036 < P < 0.040) and lower GI symptoms (0.030 < P < 0.032), but not vice versa. No significant relationship with GI symptoms was found for any objective sleep measure using actigraphy. DISCUSSION: Poor subjective sleep quality was associated with higher next-day lower GI symptom levels, but not vice versa. Objective sleep measures did not predict next-day abdominal symptoms, potentially supporting the conclusion that it is the perception of sleep quality that is most influential. This study may be used to guide future research into the effect of sleep interventions on GI symptoms.

RNA-binding protein HuR (ELAVL1) is a master regulator of gene expression in human pathophysiology. Its dysregulation plays an important role in many diseases. We hypothesized that HuR plays an important role in Th2 inflammation in asthma in both mouse and human. To address this, we used a model of airway inflammation in a T cell-specific knockout mouse model, distal lck-Cre HuRfl/fl, as well as small molecule inhibitors in human peripheral blood-derived CD4+ T cells. Peripheral CD4+ T cells were isolated from 26 healthy control subjects and 45 asthmatics (36 type 2 high and 9 non-type 2 high, determined by blood eosinophil levels and fraction of exhaled NO). Our mouse data showed conditional ablation of HuR in T cell-abrogated Th2 differentiation, cytokine production, and lung inflammation. Studies using human T cells showed that HuR protein levels in CD4+ T cells were significantly higher in asthmatics compared with healthy control subjects. The expression and secretion of Th2 cytokines were significantly higher in asthmatics compared with control subjects. AMP-activated protein kinase activator treatment reduced the expression of several cytokines in both type 2 high and non-type 2 high asthma groups. However, the effects of CMLD-2 (a HuR-specific inhibitor) were more specific to endotype-defining cytokines in type 2 high asthmatics. Taken together, these data suggest that HuR plays a permissive role in both allergen and non-allergen-driven airway inflammation by regulating key genes, and that interfering with its function may be a novel method of asthma treatment.

PURPOSE: Operative guidelines and use optimization for new surgical exoscopes are not well described in the literature. In this study, we evaluated use of the ORBEYE (Olympus) surgical exoscope system during 5-ALA fluorescence-guided resection of GBMs to optimize workflow and exoscope settings. METHODS: The ORBEYE exoscope system was fitted with a blue light filter for 5-ALA mediated fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS). Intraoperative images were obtained during 5-ALA FGS in 9 patients with primary or recurrent GBM. The exoscope was set up at constant, increasing focal distances from the target tissue, and light source intensity varied. High-resolution 4 K images were captured and analyzed. Comparisons of fluorescence to background were then generated for use optimization. RESULTS: Light intensity did not significantly influence tumor fluorescence (P = 0.878). However, focal distance significantly impacted relative fluorescent intensity (P = 0.007). Maximum average fluorescence was seen consistently at a focal length of 220 mm and a light intensity of approximately 75% maximum. Decreasing focal distance from 400 mm to 220 mm significantly increased visualized fluorescence (P = 0.0038). CONCLUSIONS: The ORBEYE surgical exoscope system with blue light filter is a powerful imaging tool for 5-ALA FGS in GBM. The ORBEYE blue filter performs optimally at shorter focal distance with moderate light intensity. Similar to microscope systems, decreasing focal distance significantly influences visualized fluorescence.

PURPOSE: Iatrogenic neurologic deficits adversely affect patient outcomes following brain tumor resection. Motor evoked potential (MEP) monitoring allows surgeons to assess the integrity of motor-eloquent areas in real-time during tumor resection to lessen the risk of iatrogenic insult. We retrospectively associate intraoperative transcranial and direct cortical MEPs (TC-MEPs, DC-MEPs) to early and late post-operative motor function to prognosticate short- and long-term motor recovery in brain tumor patients undergoing surgical resection in peri-eloquent regions. METHODS: We reviewed 121 brain tumor patients undergoing craniotomies with DC-MEP and/or TC-MEP monitoring. Motor function scores were recorded at multiple time-points up to 1 year postoperatively. Sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values (PPV, NPV) were calculated at each time point. RESULTS: The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of TC-MEP in the immediate postoperative period was 17.5%, 100%, 100%, and 69.4%, respectively. For DC-MEP monitoring, the respective values were 25.0%, 100%, 100%, and 68.8%. By discharge, sensitivity had increased for both TC-MEP and DC MEPs to 43.8%, and 50.0% respectively. Subset analysis on patients without tumor recurrence/progression at long term follow-up (n = 62 pts, 51.2%) found that all patients with stable monitoring maintained or improved from preoperative status. One patient with transient intraoperative TC-MEP loss and permanent DC-MEP loss suffered a permanent deficit. CONCLUSION: Brain tumor patients who undergo surgery with intact MEP monitoring and experience new postoperative deficits likely suffer transient deficits that will improve over the postoperative course in the absence of disease progression.

PURPOSE: We systematically reviewed visual outcomes over the last three decades in patients undergoing treatment for base of skull (BOS) meningiomas and provide recommendations to preserve vision. METHODS: In accordance with the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews, a search was conducted from 6/1/2022-9/1/2022 using PubMed and Web of Science. Inclusion criteria included (1) patients treated for BOS meningiomas (2) treatment modality specified (3) specifics of surgical techniques and/or dose/fractions of radiotherapy (4) individual patient outcomes of treatment. Each study was assessed for bias based on study design and heterogeneity of results. RESULTS: A total of 50 studies were included (N = 2911). When comparing improved vision versus unchanged or worsened vision, studies investigating surgery alone published from 2006 and onward had significantly better visual outcomes compared to pre-2006 studies (p = 0.02). When comparing improved vision versus unchanged or worsened vision, studies investigating combined therapy with surgery and radiation published from 2008 and onward had significantly better visual outcomes compared to pre-2008 studies (p < 0.01). Combined modality therapy was less likely to worsen vision compared to either surgery or radiation monotherapy (p < 0.01). However, surgery and radiation monotherapy were more likely to actually improve outcomes compared to combination therapy (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: For over a decade we have observed improvement in visual outcomes in patients managed for meningioma of BOS, likely attributing the innovation in microsurgical and more targeted and conformal radiation techniques. Combination therapy may be the safest option for preventing worsening of vision, but the highest rates of improving visual function are achieved through monotherapy when indicated.

RESUMO

Although much is known now about behavioural, cognitive and physiological consequences of insomnia, little is known about changes after cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia on these particular factors. We here report baseline findings on each of these factors in insomnia, after which we address findings on their changes after cognitive behavioural therapy. Sleep restriction remains the strongest determinant of insomnia treatment success. Cognitive interventions addressing dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep, sleep-related selective attention, worry and rumination further drive effectiveness of cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia. Future studies should focus on physiological changes after cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia, such as changes in hyperarousal and brain activity, as literature on these changes is sparse. We introduce a detailed clinical research agenda on how to address this topic.

Stress and sleep are very closely linked, and stressful life events can trigger acute insomnia. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is highly likely to represent one such stressful life event. Indeed, a wide range of cross-sectional studies demonstrate that the pandemic is associated with poor sleep and sleep disturbances. Given the high economic and health burden of insomnia disorder, strategies that can prevent and treat acute insomnia, and also prevent the transition from acute insomnia to insomnia disorder, are necessary. This narrative review outlines why the COVID-19 pandemic is a stressful life event, and why activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, as a biological marker of psychological stress, is likely to result in acute insomnia. Further, this review outlines how sleep disturbances might arise as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and why simultaneous hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis measurement can inform the pathogenesis of acute insomnia. In particular, we focus on the cortisol awakening response as a marker of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function, as cortisol is the end-product of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. From a research perspective, future opportunities include identifying individuals, or particular occupational or societal groups (e.g. frontline health staff), who are at high risk of developing acute insomnia, and intervening. From an acute insomnia treatment perspective, priorities include testing large-scale online behavioural interventions; examining if reducing the impact of stress is effective and, finally, assessing whether "sleep vaccination" can maintain good sleep health by preventing the occurrence of acute insomnia, by preventing the transition from acute insomnia to insomnia disorder.

Progress in the field of insomnia since 2017 necessitated this update of the European Insomnia Guideline. Recommendations for the diagnostic procedure for insomnia and its comorbidities are: clinical interview (encompassing sleep and medical history); the use of sleep questionnaires and diaries (and physical examination and additional measures where indicated) (A). Actigraphy is not recommended for the routine evaluation of insomnia (C), but may be useful for differential-diagnostic purposes (A). Polysomnography should be used to evaluate other sleep disorders if suspected (i.e. periodic limb movement disorder, sleep-related breathing disorders, etc.), treatment-resistant insomnia (A) and for other indications (B). Cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia is recommended as the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia in adults of any age (including patients with comorbidities), either applied in-person or digitally (A). When cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia is not sufficiently effective, a pharmacological intervention can be offered (A). Benzodiazepines (A), benzodiazepine receptor agonists (A), daridorexant (A) and low-dose sedating antidepressants (B) can be used for the short-term treatment of insomnia (≤ 4 weeks). Longer-term treatment with these substances may be initiated in some cases, considering advantages and disadvantages (B). Orexin receptor antagonists can be used for periods of up to 3 months or longer in some cases (A). Prolonged-release melatonin can be used for up to 3 months in patients ≥ 55 years (B). Antihistaminergic drugs, antipsychotics, fast-release melatonin, ramelteon and phytotherapeutics are not recommended for insomnia treatment (A). Light therapy and exercise interventions may be useful as adjunct therapies to cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (B).

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is a common intracranial hemorrhagic disorder with a high incidence rate among the elderly. While small, asymptomatic cSDH may resolve spontaneously, surgical intervention has been the treatment of choice for larger, symptomatic cases. Surgical evacuation of cSDH may be associated with high rates of recurrence, and even asymptomatic cSDH cases tend to progress. Over the last few years, middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization has proven to be a safe non-invasive treatment of choice with favorable outcomes and a low recurrence rate. The ensuing paper discusses current treatment modalities for cSDH and reviews existing literature on the anatomy of MMA and its embolization as a treatment option for cSDH. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent studies show that traumatic head injury leading to subdural hemorrhage can induce neovascularization that may initiate a cycle of recurrent subdural hematoma. Distal branches of MMA supply blood to the dural layers. Several studies have revealed that embolization of the MMA can stop the neovascularization process and blood flow. In addition, patients who underwent MMA embolization had a significantly quicker brain re-expansion and lower recurrence rate. Although the management of cSDH is still very much a dilemma, recent research findings bring MMA embolization to light as a promising treatment alternative and adjunctive therapy.

OBJECTIVE: Stimulated Raman histology (SRH) offers efficient and accurate intraoperative neuropathological tissue analysis without procedural alteration to the diagnostic specimen. However, there are limited data demonstrating one-to-one tissue comparisons between SRH and traditional frozen sectioning. This study explores the non-inferiority of SRH as compared to frozen section on the same piece of tissue in neurosurgical patients. METHODS: Tissue was collected over a 1-month period from 18 patients who underwent resection of central nervous system lesions. SRH and frozen section analyses were compared for diagnostic capabilities as well as assessed for quality and condition of tissue via a survey completed by pathologists. RESULTS: SRH was sufficient for diagnosis in 78% of specimens as compared to 94% of specimens by frozen section of the same specimen. A Fisher's exact test determined there was no significant difference in diagnostic capability between the two groups. Additionally, both quality of SRH and condition of tissue after SRH were deemed to be non-inferior to frozen section. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides further evidence for the non-inferiority of SRH techniques. It is also the first study to demonstrate SRH accuracy using one-to-one tissue analysis in neuropathological specimens.

BACKGROUND: Temporary clipping is an important tool in the vascular neurosurgeon's armamentarium. We routinely utilize intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) for complex brain aneurysm surgery cases, relying on direct cortical motor evoked potential (DCMEP) alerts to guide the duration of temporary clipping. Previous studies have argued for relatively short and intermittent temporary clipping strategies. In this study, we sought to assess the maximal permissive temporary clipping time during complex aneurysm surgery. To do this, we assessed patient outcome in relation to temporary clip duration guided by DCMEP. METHODS: We queried our prospectively collected neuromonitoring database for anterior circulation aneurysm cases where temporary clipping was utilized by a single cerebrovascular surgeon between 2018 and 2021. Operative and IONM reports were reviewed. Patients in whom the duration of temporary clipping could not be determined were excluded. The operative strategy permissively allowed continuous temporary clipping as long as no neuromonitoring alerts were encountered. Maximal permissive parent artery occlusion time (Clipmax) was recorded as the longest duration of tolerated temporary vessel clipping without decrement in DCMEP. RESULTS: A total of 41 complex anterior circulation aneurysm clipping cases met criteria for this study. The mean Clipmax for all cases was just over 19 min and did not differ between ruptured and unruptured aneurysms. Initial alert times were not found to be predictive of final permissive temporary clip duration after re-perfusion. In 100% (41/41) of cases, the aneurysm was completely clip occluded without residual on catheter angiogram. Stable or improved modified Rankin Score was achieved in 98% (40/41) of cases at 3-month follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that using DCMEP can facilitate relatively long but safe temporary clipping durations in complex anterior circulation aneurysm surgery. In the endovascular era with only a limited subset of technically challenging aneurysms needing open surgical treatment, extended permissive temporary clipping guided by DCMEPs can significantly enhance a surgeon's ability to achieve excellent technical and clinical outcomes.

According to the "3P model" of insomnia, the variable that mediates the transition from acute insomnia (AI) to chronic insomnia is "sleep extension" (the behavioural tendency to expand sleep opportunity to compensate for sleep loss). In the present analysis, we sought to evaluate how time in bed (TIB) varies relative to the new onset of AI and chronic insomnia. A total of 1,248 subjects were recruited as good sleepers (GS). Subjects were monitored over 1 year with sleep diaries. State transitions were defined, a priori, for AI, recovered from AI (AI-REC), and for chronic insomnia (AI-CI). Two additional groupings were added based on profiles that were unanticipated: subjects that exhibited persistent poor sleep following AI (AI-PPS [those that neither recovered or developed chronic insomnia]) and subjects that recovered from chronic insomnia (CI-REC). All the groups (GS, AI-REC, AI-CI, AI-PPS and CI-REC) were evaluated for TIB differences with longitudinal mixed effects models. Post hoc analyses for the percentage of the groups that were typed as TIB "restrictors, maintainers, and expanders" were conducted using longitudinal mixed effects models and contingency analyses. Significant differences for pre-post AI TIB were not detected for the insomnia groups. Trends were apparent for the AI-CI group, which suggested that minor increases in TIB occurred weeks before the declared onset of AI. Additionally, it was found that a significantly larger percentage of AI-CI subjects engaged in sleep extension (as compared to GS). The present data suggest that transition from AI to chronic insomnia does not appear to be initiated by sleep extension and the transition may occur before the elapse of 3 months of ≥3 nights of sleep continuity disturbance. Given these findings, it may be that the mismatch between sleep ability and sleep opportunity is perpetuated over time given the failure to "naturally" engage in sleep restriction (as opposed to sleep extension).

Previous research highlights the potential benefits of engaging with depressive internet memes for those experiencing symptoms of depression. This study aimed to determine whether: compared to non-depressed controls, individuals experiencing depressive symptoms were quicker to orient and maintain overall attention for internet memes depicting depressive content relative to neutral memes. N = 21 individuals were grouped based on the severity of reported depression symptoms using the PhQ-9. Specifically, a score of: ≤ 4 denoted the control group; and ≥ 15 the depressive symptoms group. Participants viewed a series of meme pairs depicting depressive and neutral memes for periods of 4000 ms. Data for the first fixation onset and duration, total fixation count and total fixation and gaze duration of eye-movements were recorded. A significant group x meme-type interaction indicated that participants with depressive symptoms displayed significantly more fixations on depressive rather than neutral memes. These outcomes provide suggestive evidence for the notion that depressive symptoms are associated with an attentional bias towards socio-emotionally salient stimuli.

Objectives/Background: Despite Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) being considered the first-line treatment for insomnia, it is not without its challenges. As such it is worthwhile to consider, and test, alternative or adjuvant management options. Methods/Participants: The aim of the present study was to examine whether Lucid Dreaming Training for insomnia (LDT-I) impacted on insomnia, depressive and anxious symptomology in an open label trial of 48 adults with Insomnia Disorder. Participants completed the Insomnia Severity Index, General Anxiety Disorder-7 and Patient Health Questionnaire at baseline then one month following LDT-I. Training consisted of four modules delivered over a period of two consecutive weeks. Results: The results suggest, albeit preliminarily, that LDT-I may have a place within the non-pharmacological management of insomnia, as there were significant reductions in insomnia severity (t(46) = 8.16,p <.001), anxious symptomology (t(46) = 4.75,p <.001) and depressive symptomology (t(46) = 5.87,p <.001). Further, the effect size in terms of pre-post reductions on ISI scores was large (dz 1.17). Conclusions: Whilst the results are promising, further testing of LDT-I is needed to inform its place amongst the non-pharmacological treatments for insomnia.

PURPOSE: Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is effective in treating carotid artery stenosis to prevent stroke. Historically, this operation has been performed utilizing loupe magnification with or without the operating microscope (OM). However, there remains a need for continued improvement in operative visualization and surgical ergonomics. Recently, newly developed digital 'exoscope' has provided the surgeon with unique lighting and magnification as well as improvements in surgical ergonomics and working angle. We sought to review our cumulative experience using a novel 4K high-definition (4K-HD) 3-dimensional (3D) exoscope (EX) for CEA surgery. METHODS: All CEA surgery cases at our institution between 2013 and 2019 using the 4K-HD 3D EX were reviewed. Operative parameters, patient outcome and operator's assessment of the EX compared to OM-assisted cases was conducted. RESULTS: 28 patients were treated, 10 of which were operated using the EX. All procedures were performed without perioperative complications, or significant differences in operative parameters (blood loss <20 cm3 and 164 ± 49.5 minutes) compared to OM-assisted cases. Operators reported improved level of comfort performing 'high' bifurcation surgery and improved visualization and posture during inspection of the distal ICA lumen as primary advantages of EX-assisted CEA over OM-assisted CEA. CONCLUSIONS: The ORBEYE EX, albeit a learning curve necessitating a short period of the OR team, provided safety and outcome comparable to OM-assisted surgery. Potential advantages noted were improved visualization and ergonomics specifically for when extreme working angles were required. Our experience suggests that the exoscope may become a valuable alternative to standard magnification tools in CEA surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Intra-arterial (IA) delivery of therapeutic agents across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is an evolving strategy which enables the distribution of high concentration therapeutics through a targeted vascular territory, while potentially limiting systemic toxicity. Studies have demonstrated IA methods to be safe and efficacious for a variety of therapeutics. However, further characterization of the clinical efficacy of IA therapy for the treatment of brain tumors and refinement of its potential applications are necessary. METHODS: We have reviewed the preclinical and clinical evidence supporting superselective intraarterial cerebral infusion (SSIACI) with BBB disruption for the treatment of brain tumors. In addition, we review ongoing clinical trials expanding the applicability and investigating the efficacy of IA therapy for the treatment of brain tumors. RESULTS: Trends in recent studies have embraced the use of SSIACI and less neurotoxic chemotherapies. The majority of trials continue to use mannitol as the preferred method of hyperosmolar BBB disruption. Recent preclinical and preliminary human investigations into the IA delivery of Bevacizumab have demonstrated its safety and efficacy as an anti-tumor agent both alone and in combination with chemotherapy. CONCLUSION: IA drug delivery may significantly affect the way treatments are delivered to patients with brain tumors, and in particular GBM. With refinement and standardization of the techniques of IA drug delivery, improved drug selection and formulations, and the development of methods to minimize treatment-related neurological injury, IA therapy may offer significant benefits for the treatment of brain tumors.

In the current global home confinement situation due to the COVID-19 outbreak, most individuals are exposed to an unprecedented stressful situation of unknown duration. This may not only increase daytime stress, anxiety and depression levels, but also disrupt sleep. Importantly, because of the fundamental role that sleep plays in emotion regulation, sleep disturbance can have direct consequences upon next day emotional functioning. In this paper, we summarize what is known about the stress-sleep link and confinement as well as effective insomnia treatment. We discuss those effects of the current home confinement situation that can disrupt sleep but also those that could benefit sleep quality. We suggest adaptions of cognitive behavioural therapy elements that are feasible to implement for those facing changed work schedules and requirements, those with health anxiety and those handling childcare and home-schooling, whilst also recognizing the general limitations imposed on physical exercise and social interaction. Managing sleep problems as best as possible during home confinement can limit stress and possibly prevent disruptions of social relationships.

BACKGROUND: Sleep health is a relatively new multidimensional concept, however, there is no consensus on its underlying dimensions. A previous study examined potential indicators of sleep health using an aggregated sleep health measure. However, the psychometric properties are yet to be determined. The primary aim was to assess the factor structure, reliability and validity of this measure. A secondary aim was to explore the relationships with perceived stress, and physical and mental health. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 257 adults from the UK aged 18-65 (78.4% female, mean age = 29.39 [SD = 11.37]). Participants completed 13 Sleep health items, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Inventory, Insomnia Severity Scale, Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Perceived Stress Scale and SF-12 Health Survey. RESULTS: The measure exhibited good internal consistency (α = 0.785) and construct validity as determined by associations with existing measures. Principle components analysis produced four factors e; sleep quality (α = 0.818), sleep adaptability (α = 0.917), sleep wellness (α = 0.621) and daytime functioning (α = 0.582). Adaptability (ß = -241) was strongest predictor of perceived stress, and daytime functioning was strongest predictor of physical (ß = 0.322) and mental health (ß = 0.312). CONCLUSIONS: Sleep health is a multidimensional construct comprising four distinct but related dimensions. The importance of sleep health in terms of perceived stress and mental and physical health is highlighted.

Experimental sleep restriction (SR) has demonstrated reduced insulin sensitivity in healthy individuals. Exercise is well-known to be beneficial for metabolic health. A single bout of exercise has the capacity to increase insulin sensitivity for up to 2 days. Therefore, the current study aimed to determine if sprint interval exercise could attenuate the impairment in insulin sensitivity after one night of SR in healthy males. Nineteen males were recruited for this randomized crossover study which consisted of four conditions-control, SR, control plus exercise, and sleep restriction plus exercise. Time in bed was 8 hr (2300-0700) in the control conditions and 4 hr (0300-0700) in the SR conditions. Conditions were separated by a 1-week entraining period. Participants slept at home, and compliance was assessed using wrist actigraphy. Following the night of experimental sleep, participants either conducted sprint interval exercise or rested for the equivalent duration. An oral glucose tolerance test was then conducted. Blood samples were obtained at regular intervals for measurement of glucose and insulin. Insulin concentrations were higher in SR than control (p = .022). Late-phase insulin area under the curve was significantly lower in sleep restriction plus exercise than SR (862 ± 589 and 1,267 ± 558; p = .004). Glucose area under the curve was not different between conditions (p = .207). These findings suggest that exercise improves the late postprandial response following a single night of SR.
