AIM: To evaluate available evidence examining safety and efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) on upper extremity outcomes in children with cerebral palsy (CP). METHOD: We electronically searched 12 sources up to May 2023 using JBI and Cochrane guidelines. Two reviewers selected articles with predetermined eligibility criteria, conducted data extraction, and assessed risk of bias using the Cochrane Risk of Bias criteria. RESULTS: Nineteen studies were included: eight using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and 11 using transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Moderate certainty evidence supports the safety of rTMS and tDCS for children with CP. Very low to moderate certainty evidence suggests that rTMS and tDCS result in little to no difference in upper extremity outcomes. INTERPRETATION: Evidence indicates that NIBS is a safe and feasible intervention to target upper extremity outcomes in children with CP, although it also indicates little to no significant impact on upper extremity outcomes. These findings are discussed in relation to the heterogeneous participants' characteristics and stimulation parameters. Larger studies of high methodological quality are required to inform future research and protocols for NIBS.

AIM: To analyse the effects of an individualized telehealth home programme on the performance of functional goals of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD: A prospective single-group intervention study with children/adolescents with CP (n = 144; median age = 92 months [Q1 = 44.0, Q3 = 148.8]; 74 males, 70 females), representing all Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels participated in a 4-month home programme in Brazil. An interdisciplinary team encouraged families to choose a functional goal to be trained. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) was used at pre-intervention (T1), post-intervention (T2), and 3-month follow-up (T3). The differences in COPM scores at T1, T2, and T3 were evaluated using Friedman's test. The effect size was calculated using Cohen's d. Univariate analysis was included. RESULTS: Significant improvements were observed after the intervention, with maintenance of scores after 3 months (p < 0.001, dperformance = 1.33; dsatisfaction = 1.31). None of the tested variables (child's abilities, age, caregiver's educational level, perception of family-centredness, and type of goal) were significantly related to the change scores. INTERPRETATION: The individualized remote telehealth home programme can be a potential intervention, especially for children with CP classified in GMFCS levels IV and V. Also, this intervention provided a possible solution to help some children and their families in performing prioritized functional goals during the pandemic period.

Piperine is an amide alkaloid responsible for producing the pungent smell that comes from black pepper. Piperine has been explained to exhibit significant properties such as anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, and antihypertensive effects. The aim of the study was to synthesize pyrrole ester from piperine and evaluate its anti-arthritis effects in adjuvant-induced arthritis female Wistar rats. In this study, pyrrole ester (AU-5) was designed, synthesized and evaluated for ant-arthritic activity in adjuvant-induced arthritis Wistar rats. The synthesized pyrrole ester (AU-5) was administered in three selected doses (20, 10 and 5 mg/kg) to the arthritic-induced model. The administered ester significantly inhibited the increase in arthritis index, paw and ankle joint swelling compared to the arthritic control group. Similarly, the treated rats exhibited a remarkable increase in body weight increase, improved haematological, biochemical, histopathological and radiological parameters. Moreover, the excess production of rheumatoid factor (RF), C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was noticeably attenuated in all AU-5-treated rats. However, the spleen index, tumour necrosis factor (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were distinctly lowered compared to arthritic control rats. Moreover, AU-5 showed promising liver protection by lowering the level of liver function markers Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), Serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in serum. Henceforth, it might be concluded that AU-5 has an anti-arthritic effect which can be credited to the down regulation of inflammatory markers and the pro-inflammatory cytokines.

AIM: To compare bimanual coordination in children with bilateral cerebral palsy (BCP) with that of children with typical development (TD) and correlate bimanual coordination with clinical measures of hand function. METHODS: 3-D kinematic data were collected from 14 children with BCP (mean age 13 years 1 month; range 7.3-17.2 years, 5 females) and 14 age-matched children with TD (mean age 13 years 1 month, range 7.0-16.0 years, 7 females) as they opened a drawer with one hand and activated a switch inside it with the other hand at self-paced and as-fast-as-possible speeds. Hand roles varied in each condition. Participants' hand function levels were classified using the Manual Ability Classification System. Unimanual dexterity and bimanual performance were evaluated using the Box and Blocks Test and Both Hands Assessment respectively. RESULTS: Participants with BCP performed the bimanual task more slowly (p < 0.001) and sequentially, as evidenced by greater time differences between the two hands achieving the end goal (p = 0.01). Faster speeds, particularly when the less affected hand opened the drawer, facilitated time-related measures of bimanual coordination (p < 0.05). Bimanual coordination correlated with all clinical measures of hand function (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: For children with BCP, speed and hand used for each subcomponent of the task influence bimanual coordination. Better bimanual coordination is associated with less impairment of both hands.
RESUMO
Yttrium-90 transarterial radioembolization (TARE) has progressed from a salvage or palliative lobar or sequential bilobar regional liver therapy for patients with advanced disease to a versatile, potentially curative, and often highly selective local treatment for patients across Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stages. With this shift, radiation dosimetry has evolved to become more tailored to patients and target lesion(s), with treatment dose and distributions adapted for specific clinical goals (ie, palliation, bridging or downstaging to liver transplantation, converting to surgical resection candidacy, or ablative/curative intent). Data have confirmed that "personalizing" dosimetry yields real-world improvements in tumor response and overall survival while maintaining a favorable adverse event profile. In this review, imaging techniques used before, during, and after TARE have been reviewed. Historical algorithms and contemporary image-based dosimetry methods have been reviewed and compared. Finally, recent and upcoming developments in TARE methodologies and tools have been discussed.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of yttrium-90 (90Y) radiation segmentectomy (RS) in the treatment of oligometastatic secondary hepatic malignancies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This institutional review board-approved retrospective study evaluated 16 patients with oligometastatic secondary hepatic malignancies who were treated with RS. The median patient age was 61.9 years (range, 38.6-85.7 years). Of the 16 patients, 11 (68.8%) presented with solitary lesions. The median index tumor size was 3.1 cm (95% CI, 2.3-3.9). Primary outcomes were evaluation of clinical and biochemical toxicities using National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, version 5.0, and imaging response using Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors, version 1.1. Secondary outcomes were time to progression (TTP) and overall survival (OS) as estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: Clinical Grade 3 toxicities were limited to 1 (6.7%) patient who experienced fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Biochemical Grade 3 toxicities occurred in 1 (6.7%) patient who experienced lymphopenia. No Grade 4 clinical or biochemical toxicities were identified. Disease control was achieved in 14 (93.3%) of 15 patients. The median TTP of the treated tumor was 72.9 months (95% CI, 11.2 to no estimate). The median OS was 60.9 months (95% CI, 24.7 to no estimate). CONCLUSIONS: 90Y RS displayed an excellent safety profile and was effective in achieving a high disease control rate in the treatment of oligometastatic secondary hepatic malignancies.

PURPOSE: To assess the liver function trends in patients with intermediate-stage (Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer [BCLC] Stage B) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who underwent yttrium-90 transarterial radioembolization (TARE) in response to a growing concern that liver-directed therapies negatively affect liver function and prevent patients with HCC from systemic therapy candidacy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An HCC/TARE database (2004-2017) was retrospectively reviewed. Patients with BCLC Stage B/Child-Pugh (CP)-A HCC with laboratory test and imaging data at baseline and for at least 1 month after TARE were included. Follow-ups were at 3-month intervals. CP stage was assessed at each time point. End points included time to persistent CP-B status, time to CP-C status, and median overall survival (OS). Time-to-end point analyses were performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: Seventy-four patients (80% men, with a mean age of 63 years) with mostly (62%) bilobar disease underwent 186 TARE treatments (median, 2; range, 1-8). The median time to second TARE was 2.3 months (range, 1.7-6.4 months), and the median times to third and fourth TAREs were 11.7 months (range, 7.5-15 months) and 17.3 months (range, 11.5-23.1 months), respectively. Forty-three (58%) patients developed persistent CP-B HCC at a median time of 15.4 months (95% CI, 9.2-25.3 months); 17 (23%) patients developed CP-C HCC at a median time of 87.2 months (95% CI, 39.8-136.1 months). The median OS censored to transplantation was 30.4 months (95% CI, 22.7-37.4 months). On univariate and multivariate analyses, baseline albumin was a significant prognosticator of OS, whereas baseline albumin and bilirubin were significant prognosticators of time to persistent CP-B HCC and time to CP-C HCC. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with CP-A HCC who underwent TARE for BCLC Stage B HCC, the median time to persistent CP-B HCC was 15.4 months. These findings indicate that patients would be candidates for systemic therapy at progression if indicated.

AIM: We systematically examined the relationship between mirror movements and brain lesion type, corticospinal tract (CST) organization, and hand function to determine the relevance between mirror movements, brain lesion, the CST pattern, and hand function in children with unilateral cerebral palsy (CP). METHOD: Forty-eight children (mean age 9y 9mo [SD 3y 3mo], range 6-18y; 30 males, 18 females) with unilateral CP participated. Mirror movements, brain lesion type, CST pattern identified by transcranial magnetic stimulation, and clinical outcomes were evaluated. Children performed four unilateral tasks: hand opening/closing, finger opposition, individuation, and finger 'walking'. Mirror movements induced in the contralateral hand were scored using standardized criteria (scores 0-4 using the Woods and Teuber scale). RESULTS: We found that children with periventricular lesion may have stronger mirror movement scores induced in either hand than those with middle cerebral artery lesion (more affected hand: p=0.02; less affected hand: p<0.01). The highest mirror movement score a child exhibits across the tested tasks (i.e. scores of 3-4 using the Woods and Teuber scoring criteria) may potentially be an indicator of an ipsilateral CST connectivity pattern (p=0.03). Significant correlations were observed between higher mirror movement scores when performing hand opening/closing as well as finger walking and better unimanual dexterity (Spearman's rank correlation coefficient rs =0.44, p=0.002; rs =0.46, p=0.002 respectively). INTERPRETATION: Brain lesions may be predictive of the strength of mirror movements in either hand in children with unilateral CP. Our findings warrant further studies to extensively investigate the relationship between mirror movements and the underlying brain pathology. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: Brain lesion type may be predictive of mirror movement scores induced in either hand in children with unilateral cerebral palsy. The highest mirror movement score a child exhibits across the tested tasks may indicate corticospinal tract connectivity pattern in children with unilateral cerebral palsy.

AIM: To examine the relationship between assisting hand use in bimanual activities and children's self-care activities and task performance. METHOD: We retrospectively analysed daily functioning (Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory [PEDI]) and bimanual performance (Assisting Hand Assessment [AHA]) data from the assessment of 112 children (mean age: 8 years 10 months [SD 2 years 1 month], range 3 years 7 months-17 years 4 months; 66 males, 46 females) with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy (CP). We used Rasch analysis to examine the relationship between individual item scores from the AHA and the self-care items (functional skills, caregiver assistance) from the PEDI. RESULTS: Most self-care functional skills and caregiver-assisted tasks were located on the middle of the unidimensional continuum. These items showed similar levels of difficulty as the items from the AHA related to the effective coordination of two hands, appropriate pace, and use of the assisting hand to stabilize and release objects, as well as variations in arm movements. INTERPRETATION: The distribution of the PEDI self-care and AHA items along the unidimensional continuum illustrates the relationship between assisting hand use and self-care bimanual performance. Interpretation of the items' locations on the hierarchical unidimensional continuum may be helpful to therapists' clinical reasoning and suggest intervention goals to improve the hand function and daily functioning of children with unilateral spastic CP. Such an application needs further investigation.

This erratum reports on a technical error that was discovered in Study 2 of Peer et al. (2021). Because of this technical error, some specific findings on participants' proclivity for dishonesty reported in the paper have been found incorrect. We detail the error, which only affected female participants, and its impact on the findings and report on the reanalyzed findings accounting for the error. The new findings do not change the conclusions provided in the paper, and show again that participants from MTurk are more likely to engage in dishonest behavior than participants from Prolific or CloudResearch.

We examine key aspects of data quality for online behavioral research between selected platforms (Amazon Mechanical Turk, CloudResearch, and Prolific) and panels (Qualtrics and Dynata). To identify the key aspects of data quality, we first engaged with the behavioral research community to discover which aspects are most critical to researchers and found that these include attention, comprehension, honesty, and reliability. We then explored differences in these data quality aspects in two studies (N ~ 4000), with or without data quality filters (approval ratings). We found considerable differences between the sites, especially in comprehension, attention, and dishonesty. In Study 1 (without filters), we found that only Prolific provided high data quality on all measures. In Study 2 (with filters), we found high data quality among CloudResearch and Prolific. MTurk showed alarmingly low data quality even with data quality filters. We also found that while reputation (approval rating) did not predict data quality, frequency and purpose of usage did, especially on MTurk: the lowest data quality came from MTurk participants who report using the site as their main source of income but spend few hours on it per week. We provide a framework for future investigation into the ever-changing nature of data quality in online research, and how the evolving set of platforms and panels performs on these key aspects.

Few matrices have the potential to be universally applicable for imaging vast endogenous compounds ranging from micro to macromolecules. In this article, we present hydralazine (HZN) as a versatile and universal matrix for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI MSI) of a wide range of endogenous compounds between 50.0 and 20,000.0 Da. HZN was prepared from its hydrochloride by alkalizing HZN·HCl with ammonia to enhance the optical absorptivity at the preferred MALDI UV laser wavelength. To further improve its performance for MALDI MS, HZN was doped with NH4OH or TFA, resulting in matrix superior performance for imaging biologically relevant compounds in the negative and positive-ion modes, respectively. The analyte-matrix interaction was also enhanced by the optimized matrix solvent and the deposition amount. Compared with conventional matrices such as 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid, and 9-aminoacridine (9-AA), the HZN matrix provided higher sensitivity, broader molecular coverage, and improved signal intensities. Its broad acquisition range makes it versatile for imaging small molecular metabolites and lipids, as well as proteins. In addition, HZN was applied successfully for the visualization of tissue-specific distributions and changes of small molecules, lipids, and proteins in the kidney and liver sections of obese ob/ob and diabetic db/db mice. The use of the HZN matrix shows great potential application in the field of pathological research.

The purpose of this study was to define the optimal infusion parameters and operator radiation exposure for yttrium-90 (90Y) radioembolization in the VX2 rabbit model of liver cancer. Forty-one rabbits with VX2 were treated with glass microspheres with vial sizes of 1, 3, and 5 GBq. The mean administered activity was 51.5 MBq (95% CI, 39.1-63.9). Delivery efficiency improved with 1 GBq versus with 3 GBq (residual 11.0% vs 46.4%, respectively; P = .0013) and improved with 1 GBq versus with 5 GBq (residual 11.0% vs 33.8%, respectively; P = .0060). The mean operator extremity exposure was 41.7 µSv/infusion. The optimal minimum infusion volume and rate was 49 mL and 21 mL/min, respectively. Fecal elimination occurred with microsphere uptake in the gallbladder at 1 and 2 weeks. 90Y radioembolization can be safely and efficiently performed in the VX2 rabbit model. Methodological considerations as a "how-to" for the setup of a preclinical 90Y laboratory are included to support future translational research.

PURPOSE: To demonstrate a stronger correlation and agreement of yttrium-90 (90Y) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) measurements with explant liver tumor dosing compared with the standard model (SM) for radioembolization. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Hepatic VX2 tumors were implanted into New Zealand white rabbits, with growth confirmed by 7 T magnetic resonance imaging. Seventeen VX2 rabbits provided 33 analyzed tumors. Treatment volumes were calculated from manually drawn volumes of interest (VOI) with three-dimensional surface renderings. Radioembolization was performed with glass 90Y microspheres. PET/CT imaging was completed with scatter and attenuation correction. Three-dimensional ellipsoid VOI were drawn to encompass tumors on fused images. Tumors and livers were then explanted for inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-optical emission spectroscopy (OES) analysis of microsphere content. 90Y PET/CT and SM measurements were compared with reference standard ICP-OES measurements of tumor dosing with Pearson correlation and Bland-Altman analyses for agreement testing with and without adjustment for tumor necrosis. RESULTS: The median infused activity was 33.3 MBq (range, 5.9-152.9). Tumor dose was significantly correlated with 90Y PET/CT measurements (r = 0.903, P < .001) and SM estimates (r = 0.607, P < .001). Bland-Altman analyses showed that the SM tended to underestimate the tumor dosing by a mean of -8.5 Gy (CI, -26.3-9.3), and the degree of underestimation increased to a mean of -18.3 Gy (CI, -38.5-1.9) after the adjustment for tumor necrosis. CONCLUSIONS: 90Y PET/CT estimates were strongly correlated and had better agreement with reference measurements of tumor dosing than SM estimates.

PURPOSE: To evaluate safety and efficacy of segmental yttrium-90 (Y90) radioembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement. The hypothesis was liver sparing segmental Y90 for HCC after TIPS would provide high antitumor response with a tolerable safety profile. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-arm retrospective study included 39 patients (16 women, 23 men) with ages 49-81 years old who were treated with Y90. Child-Pugh A/B liver dysfunction was present in 72% (28/39) with a median Model for End-stage Liver Disease score of 18 (95% confidence interval, 16.4-19.4). Primary outcomes were clinical and biochemical toxicities and antitumor imaging response by World Health Organization (WHO) and European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) criteria. Secondary outcomes were orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), time to progression (TTP), and overall survival (OS) estimates by the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: The 30-day mortality was 0%. Grade 3+ clinical adverse events and grade 3+ hyperbilirubinemia occurred in 5% (2/39) and 0% (0/39), respectively. Imaging response was achieved in 58% (22/38, WHO criteria) and 74% (28/38, EASL criteria), respectively. Median TTP was 16.1 months for any cause and 27.5 months for primary index lesions. OLT was completed in 88% (21/24) of listed patients at a median time of 6.1 months (range, 0.9-11.7 months). Median OS was 31.6 months and 62.9 months censored and uncensored to OLT, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Segmental Y90 for HCC appears safe and efficacious in patients after TIPS. Preserved transplant eligibility suggests that Y90 is a useful tool for bridging these patients to liver transplantation.

PURPOSE: To investigate the feasibility, safety, and absorbed-dose distribution of prostatic artery radioembolization (RE) in a canine model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fourteen male castrated beagles received dihydroandrosterone/estradiol to induce prostatic hyperplasia for the duration of the study. Each dog underwent fluoroscopic prostatic artery catheterization. Yttrium-90 (90Y) microspheres (TheraSphere; Boston Scientific, Marlborough, Massachusetts) were delivered to 1 prostatic hemigland (dose escalation from 60 to 200 Gy), with the contralateral side serving as a control. Assessments for adverse events were performed throughout the follow-up (Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v5.0). Positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance (MR) imaging provided a confirmation after the delivery of absorbed-dose distribution. MR imaging was performed before and 3, 20, and 40 days after RE. Tissue harvest of the prostate, rectum, bladder, urethra, penis, and neurovascular bundles was performed 60 days after RE. RESULTS: All the animals successfully underwent RE. Positron emission tomography/MR imaging demonstrated localization to and good coverage of only the treated hemigland. No adverse events occurred. The MR imaging showed a significant dose-dependent decrease in the treated hemigland size at 40 days (25%-60%, P < .001). No extraprostatic radiographic changes were observed. Necropsy demonstrated no gross rectal, urethral, penile, or bladder changes. Histology revealed RE-induced changes in the treated prostatic tissues of the highest dose group, with gland atrophy and focal necrosis. No extraprostatic RE-related histologic findings were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Prostate 90Y RE is safe and feasible in a canine model and leads to focal dose-dependent changes in the gland without inducing unwanted extraprostatic effects. These results suggest that an investigation of nonoperative prostate cancer is warranted.

The renal arteries (RAs) are important vessels that usually arise from the abdominal aorta and supply the kidneys; thus, these arteries play a vital role in physiologic functions such as hemofiltration and blood pressure regulation. An understanding of the basis for embryologic development and the frequently variable anatomy of the RAs is necessary to fully appreciate the range of diseases and the implications for procedural planning. Hemorrhage from an RA is relatively common and is typically traumatic or spontaneous, with the latter form often seen in association with underlying tumors or arteriopathy. Accurate diagnostic evaluation of RA disease due to conditions such as atherosclerosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, vasculitis, aneurysm, arteriovenous shunt, embolic disease, and dissection is dependent on the use of multimodality imaging and is essential for selecting appropriate clinical management, with endovascular therapy having a key role in treatment. Surgical considerations include extra-anatomic renal bypass, which remains an important treatment option even in this era of endovascular therapy, and RA embolization as an adjunct to tumor surgery. A novel area of research interest is the potential role of RA denervation in the management of refractory hypertension. ©RSNA, 2021.

Investigating human platelet function in low-oxygen environments is important in multiple settings, including hypobaric hypoxia (e.g., high altitude), sea level hypoxia-related disease, and thrombus stability. These studies often involve drawing blood from which platelets are isolated and analysed at atmospheric conditions or re-exposed to low oxygen levels in hypoxia chambers before testing. However, it remains unknown how the in vitro handling of the samples itself changes their dissolved oxygen concentration, which might affect platelet function and experimental results. Here, we prepared healthy donor platelet-rich plasma and washed platelet (WP) suspensions and exposed them to 2% oxygen. We found that the use of hypoxia pre-equilibrated tubes, higher platelet concentrations (>2 × 108/mL versus 2 × 107/mL), smaller volumes (600 µL versus 3 mL), and presence of plasma reduced the time for samples to reach 2% oxygen. Notably, oxygen levels decreased below 2% in most suspensions, but also in WP maintained at atmospheric 21% oxygen. Additionally, platelet spreading on fibrinogen was decreased when using hypoxic fibrinogen-coated culture plates regardless of the oxygen percentage (2% or 21%) in which platelet incubation took place. Thus, sample handling and experimental conditions should be carefully monitored in platelet-hypoxia studies as they might compromise results interpretation and comparison across studies.

AIM: To investigate the feasibility and the preliminary effects of an individualized intensive goal training for adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP). METHODS: Twelve adolescents with CP (12-17 years old, MACS II-III, GMFCS I-IV) identified functional goals to be practiced three hours/day, five days/week, for two weeks. The feasibility aspects included the participant's adherence (i.e., daily logs), the adequacy of the instruments used, and the participant's satisfaction with the intervention (i.e., structured questionnaire). Outcome measures included the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) (self-care; mobility), Children Helping Out: Responsibilities, Expectations and Supports (CHORES), Participation and Environment Measure-Children and Youth (PEM-CY) (home) and Box and Blocks Test (BBT). Assessments were conducted one month and two days before the intervention, immediately and three months after the intervention. Friedman tests were used to test time-related differences in the outcome measures. RESULTS: All adolescents completed and reported satisfaction with the proposed intervention. Significant improvements were observed in performance and satisfaction (COPM), in functional skills and caregiver assistance in self-care and in the performance of household tasks. There were no significant differences in mobility skills, independence in mobility or household tasks, home participation, or manual dexterity. CONCLUSION: The intensive training was feasible and promoted improvements in functional goals and daily functioning of adolescents with CP.

PURPOSE: To conduct a pilot study to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of an intensive bimanual intervention on upper limb function in children who have undergone hemispherectomy. METHODS: Thirteen children received 90 hours of intensive bimanual training (Hand-Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy, HABIT). The Jebsen-Taylor Test of Hand Function (JTTHF), Box and Block Test (BBT), Assisting Hand Assessment (AHA), ABILHAND-Kids, and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) were assessed by a masked clinician twice before, immediately, and 6 months after treatment. RESULTS: Significant improvements over time were found in the JTTHF, AHA, ABILHAND-Kids, and COPM. CONCLUSION: Completion of HABIT was feasible for children with hemispherectomy. Improvement of bimanual function and functional goals can be related to the nature of the activities prioritized in HABIT training.
