RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have suggested that a single dose of rifampin has protective effects against leprosy in close contacts of patients with the disease. Rifapentine was shown to have greater bactericidal activity against Mycobacterium leprae than rifampin in murine models of leprosy, but data regarding its effectiveness in preventing leprosy are lacking. METHODS: We conducted a cluster-randomized, controlled trial to investigate whether single-dose rifapentine is effective in preventing leprosy in household contacts of patients with leprosy. The clusters (counties or districts in Southwest China) were assigned to one of three trial groups: single-dose rifapentine, single-dose rifampin, or control (no intervention). The primary outcome was the 4-year cumulative incidence of leprosy among household contacts. RESULTS: A total of 207 clusters comprising 7450 household contacts underwent randomization; 68 clusters (2331 household contacts) were assigned to the rifapentine group, 71 (2760) to the rifampin group, and 68 (2359) to the control group. A total of 24 new cases of leprosy occurred over the 4-year follow-up, for a cumulative incidence of 0.09% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.02 to 0.34) with rifapentine (2 cases), 0.33% (95% CI, 0.17 to 0.63) with rifampin (9 cases), and 0.55% (95% CI, 0.32 to 0.95) with no intervention (13 cases). In an intention-to-treat analysis, the cumulative incidence in the rifapentine group was 84% lower than that in the control group (cumulative incidence ratio, 0.16; multiplicity-adjusted 95% CI, 0.03 to 0.87; P = 0.02); the cumulative incidence did not differ significantly between the rifampin group and the control group (cumulative incidence ratio, 0.59; multiplicity-adjusted 95% CI, 0.22 to 1.57; P = 0.23). In a per-protocol analysis, the cumulative incidence was 0.05% with rifapentine, 0.19% with rifampin, and 0.63% with no intervention. No severe adverse events were observed. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of leprosy among household contacts over 4 years was lower with single-dose rifapentine than with no intervention. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine and metabolic disease in women. Hyperandrogenaemia (HA) and insulin resistance (IR) are the basic pathophysiological characteristics of PCOS. The aetiology of PCOS has not been fully identified and is generally believed to be related to the combined effects of genetic, metabolic, internal, and external factors. Current studies have not screened for PCOS susceptibility genes in a large population. Here, we aimed to study the effect of TGF-ß1 methylation on the clinical PCOS phenotype. METHODS: In this study, three generations of family members with PCOS with IR as the main characteristic were selected as research subjects. Through whole exome sequencing and bioinformatic analysis, TGF-ß1 was screened as the PCOS susceptibility gene in this family. The epigenetic DNA methylation level of TGF-ß1 in peripheral blood was detected by heavy sulfite sequencing in patients with PCOS clinically characterised by IR, and the correlation between the DNA methylation level of the TGF-ß1 gene and IR was analysed. We explored whether the degree of methylation of this gene affects IR and whether it participates in the occurrence and development of PCOS. RESULTS: The results of this study suggest that the hypomethylation of the CpG4 and CpG7 sites in the TGF-ß1 gene promoter may be involved in the pathogenesis of PCOS IR by affecting the expression of the TGF-ß1 gene. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides new insights into the aetiology and pathogenesis of PCOS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The associations between plasma vitamin B12 level and anemia under different dietary patterns in elderly Chinese people are poorly understood. We aimed to examine the associations between plasma vitamin B12 levels and anemia under different dietary patterns in adults aged 65 years and older in nine longevity areas in China. METHODS: A total of 2405 older adults completed a food frequency questionnaire at the same time as a face-to-face interview. The dietary diversity score (DDS) was assessed based on the food frequency questionnaire, with the low DDS group referring to participants with a DDS score ≤ 4 points. Vitamin B12 levels were divided into two groups of high (>295 pg/mL) and low (≤ 295 pg/mL) with the median used as the cut-off point. Sub-analyses were also performed on older adults divided into tertiles of vitamin B12 levels: low (< 277 pg/mL), medium (277-375 pg/mL) and high (> 375 pg/mL) to study the association of these levels with anemia. RESULTS: Six hundred ninety-five (28.89%) of these people were diagnosed with anemia and had a mean age of 89.3 years. Higher vitamin B12 levels were associated with a decreased risk of anemia (multi-adjusted OR, 0.59, [95% CI, 0.45 ~ 0.77] P < 0.001) in older adults with a low DDS, whereas no significant association between vitamin B12 levels and anemia was found in older adults with a high DDS in a full-model after adjustment for various confounding factors (multi-adjusted OR, 0.88, [95% CI, 0.65 ~ 1.19], P = 0.41). CONCLUSION: The relationship between vitamin B12 levels and the prevalence of anemia was significant only when the level of dietary diversity in the older adults was relatively low. The dietary structure of the population should be taken into consideration in combination in order to effectively improve anemia status by supplementing vitamin B12.

RESUMO

α-Halogenated boronic esters are versatile building blocks that can be diversified into a wide variety of polyfunctionalized molecules. However, their synthetic potential has been hampered by limited preparation methods. Herein, we report a visible light-induced C-H bromination reaction of readily available benzyl boronic esters. This method features high yields, mild conditions, simple operation, and good functional group tolerance. The analogous chlorides and iodides can be accessed via Finkelstein reaction. Synthesis of halogenated geminal diborons has also been demonstrated.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) exhibit a chronic inflammatory state, which is often accompanied by immune, endocrine, and metabolic disorders. Clarification of the pathogenesis of PCOS and exploration of specific biomarkers from the perspective of immunology by evaluating the local infiltration of immune cells in the follicular microenvironment may provide critical insights into disease pathogenesis. METHODS: In this study, we evaluated immune cell subsets and gene expression in patients with PCOS using data from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and single-sample gene set enrichment analysis. RESULTS: In total, 325 differentially expressed genes were identified, among which TMEM54 and PLCG2 (area under the curve = 0.922) were identified as PCOS biomarkers. Immune cell infiltration analysis showed that central memory CD4+ T cells, central memory CD8+ T cells, effector memory CD4+ T cells, γδ T cells, and type 17 T helper cells may affect the occurrence of PCOS. In addition, PLCG2 was highly correlated with γδ T cells and central memory CD4+ T cells. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, TMEM54 and PLCG2 were identified as potential PCOS biomarkers by bioinformatics analysis. These findings established a basis for further exploration of the immunological mechanisms of PCOS and the identification of therapeutic targets.

RESUMO

Some epidemiological studies support a relationship between nickel exposure and diabetes in the general population. To address this, we tested the association of nickel exposure with diabetes in 10,890 adults aged ≥ 18 years old from the China National Human Biomonitoring study conducted in 2017-2018. Urinary nickel concentrations and fasting blood glucose (FBG) were measured, and lifestyle and demographic data were collected. Weighted logistic and linear regressions were used to estimate the associations of urinary nickel levels with diabetes prevalence and FBG. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) were used to test for the dose-response relationship. The odd ratio (95% confidence interval [CI]) of diabetes for the highest versus lowest quartiles of urinary nickel concentrations was 1.74 (1.28, 2.36) in the multivariate model (p trend =0.001). Each one-unit increase in log-transformed urinary nickel concentrations was associated with a 0.36 (0.17, 0.55) mmol/L elevation in FBG. The RCS curves showed a monotonically increasing dose-response relationship of urinary nickel with diabetes as well as FBG levels, and then tended to flatten after about 4.75 µg/L of nickel exposure. The nickel-diabetes association was stronger in individuals with lower than those with higher rice consumption (OR: 2.39 vs. 1.72). Our study supports a positive association between nickel exposure and diabetes prevalence in Chinese adults, especially in individuals with lower rice consumption. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed to validate our findings.

RESUMO

The 3-succinate-30-stearyl glycyrrhetinic acid(18-GA-Suc) was inserted into glycyrrhetinic acid(GA)-tanshinone Ⅱ_A(TSN)-salvianolic acid B(Sal B) liposome(GTS-lip) to prepare liver targeting compound liposome(Suc-GTS-lip) mediated by GA receptors. Next, pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of Suc-GTS-lip and GTS-lip were compared by UPLC, and in vivo imaging tracking of Suc-GTS-lip was conducted. The authors investigated the effect of Suc-GTS-lip on the proliferation inhibition of hepatic stellate cells(HSC) and explored their molecular mechanism of improving liver fibrosis. Pharmacokinetic results showed that the AUC_(Sal B) decreased from(636.06±27.73) µg·h·mL~(-1) to(550.39±12.34) µg·h·mL~(-1), and the AUC_(TSN) decreased from(1.08±0.72) µg·h·mL~(-1) to(0.65±0.04) µg·h·mL~(-1), but the AUC_(GA) increased from(43.64±3.10) µg·h·mL~(-1) to(96.21±3.75) µg·h·mL~(-1). The results of tissue distribution showed that the AUC_(Sal B) and C_(max) of Sal B in the liver of the Suc-GTS-lip group were 10.21 and 4.44 times those of the GTS-lip group, respectively. The liver targeting efficiency of Sal B, TSN, and GA in the Suc-GTS-lip group was 40.66%, 3.06%, and 22.08%, respectively. In vivo imaging studies showed that the modified liposomes tended to accumulate in the liver. MTT results showed that Suc-GTS-lip could significantly inhibit the proliferation of HSC, and RT-PCR results showed that the expression of MMP-1 was significantly increased in all groups, but that of TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 was significantly decreased. The mRNA expressions of collagen-I and collagen-Ⅲ were significantly decreased in all groups. The experimental results showed that Suc-GTS-lip had liver targeting, and it could inhibit the proliferation of HSC and induce their apoptosis, which provided the experimental basis for the targeted treatment of liver fibrosis by Suc-GTS-lip.

RESUMO

As a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase, Abelson tyrosine kinase (c-Abl) was first studied in chronic myelogenous leukaemia, and its role in lymphocytes has been well characterised. c-Abl is involved in B-cell development and CD19-associated B-cell antigen receptor (BCR) signalling. Although c-Abl regulates different metabolic pathways, the role of c-Abl is still unknown in B-cell metabolism. In this study, B-cell-specific c-Abl knockout (KO) mice (Mb1Cre+/- c-Ablfl/fl ) were used to investigate how c-Abl regulates B-cell metabolism and BCR signalling. We found that the levels of activation positive BCR signalling proximal molecules, phosphorylated spleen tyrosine kinase (pSYK) and phosphorylated Bruton tyrosine kinase (pBTK), were decreased, while the level of key negative regulator, phosphorylated SH2-containing inositol phosphatase 1 (pSHIP1), was increased in Mb1Cre+/- c-Ablfl/fl mice. Furthermore, we found c-Abl deficiency weakened the B-cell spreading, formation of BCR signalosomes, and the polymerisation of actin during BCR activation, and also impaired the differentiation of germinal center (GC) B-cells both in quiescent condition and after immunisation. Moreover, B-cell mitochondrial respiration and the expression of B-cell metabolism-regulating molecules were downregulated in c-Abl deficiency mice. Overall, c-Abl, which involved in actin remodelling and B-cell metabolism, positively regulates BCR signalling and promotes GC differentiation.

RESUMO

Heterotaxy syndrome is a very rare congenital disease, which is caused by the disorder of left-right asymmetry during visceral development. However, pathogenic genetic lesions are found in less than 20% of HS patients. In this cohort study, whole-exome sequencing was performed for 110 patients with situs inversus or situs ambiguous. We identified a novel nonsense variant in PKD1L1(c.1387 C > T; p.463Gln*) in a Chinese patient with heterotaxy syndrome and congenital asplenia. This homozygous variant caused the domain of PKD1L1 complete absence. To our knowledge, this novel variant is the first phenotype of congenital asplenia found in patients with PKD1L1 variants, and the first PKD1L1 variant found in China. Our findings expand the spectrum of PKD1L1 variants and provide support for PKD1L1 variant and congenital asplenia, and the critical role of PKD1L1 during left-right patterning in the Han Chinese population.

RESUMO

Most plane warts are recalcitrant to treatment. Both cryotherapy and local hyperthermia have been applied to treat plane warts. However, no direct comparative study on their respective efficacy and safety has ever been performed. To assess the efficacy and safety of local hyperthermia at 43 ± 1°C versus liquid nitrogen cryotherapy for plane warts. Sequential patients with plane warts entered the study, either receiving cryotherapy or local hyperthermia therapy at the discretion of the patients and the recommendations of consultants. Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen was delivered in two sessions 2 weeks apart, while local hyperthermia was delivered on three consecutive days, plus two similar treatments 10 ± 3 days later. The temperature over the treated skin surface was set at 43 ± 1°C for 30 min in each session. The primary outcome was the clearance rates of the lesions 6 months after treatment. Among the 194 participants enrolled, 183 were included in the analysis at 6 months. Local hyperthermia and cryotherapy achieved clearance rates of 35.56% (48/135) and 31.25% (15/48), respectively (p = 0.724); recurrence rates of 16.67% (8/48) and 53.33% (8/15) (p = 0.01); and adverse events rates of 20.74% (28/135) and 83.33% (40/48), respectively (p < 0.001). Cryotherapy had a higher pain score (p < 0.001) and a longer healing time (p < 0.001). Local hyperthermia at 43°C and cryotherapy had similar efficacy for plane warts. Local hyperthermia had a safer profile than cryotherapy but it required more treatment visits during a treatment course. More patients preferred local hyperthermia due to its treatment friendly nature.

RESUMO

Cryotherapy is one of the most common treatments for warts; however, pain during treatment and relatively high recurrence rates limit its use. Local hyperthermia has also been used successfully in the treatment of plantar warts. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical effectiveness of local hyperthermia vs cryotherapy for the treatment of plantar warts. This multi- centre, open, 2-arm, non-randomized concurrent controlled trial included 1,027 patients, who received either cryotherapy or local hyperthermia treatment. Three months after treatment, local hyperthermia and cryotherapy achieved complete clearance rates of 50.9% and 54.3%, respectively. Recurrence rates were 0.8% and 12%, respectively. Pain scores during local hyperthermia were significantly lower than for cryotherapy. Both local hyperthermia and cryotherapy demonstrated similar efficacy for clearance of plantar warts; while local hyperthermia had a lower recurrence rate and lower pain sensation during treatment.

RESUMO

Depressive symptoms have a significant impact on the quality-of-life among the oldest old (aged ≥ 80 years) in the population. Current research on the association of blood mercury with depressive symptoms has mainly targeted the general population. However, it is unclear whether this association is present in the oldest old. We used data from the Healthy Aging and Biomarker Cohort Study carried out in 2017-2018, with 1154 participants aged ≥ 80 years eligible for analysis. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was employed to detect blood mercury (Hg) levels, while the CES-D10 depression scale was used to assess depressive symptoms. The association between blood mercury levels and depressive symptoms was investigated using log-binomial and Poisson regression models. We also used restricted cubic splines (RCS) to assess the linear or nonlinear association of blood mercury with depressive symptoms scores. The 1154 participants ranged in age from 80 to 120 years, while the geometric mean of blood mercury concentration was 1.01 µg/L. After adjustment for covariates, log-binomial and Poisson regression analyses revealed a statistically significant, positive association of blood mercury with depressive symptoms. In comparison to the first tertile, the adjusted relative risks of blood mercury and the presence of depressive symptoms in the second and third tertiles were 1.55 (1.20-1.99) and 1.45 (1.11-1.90), respectively. The RCS model showed a linear association between blood mercury level and depressive symptoms scores. In conclusion, among the oldest old, we demonstrated that blood mercury levels were positively associated with depressive symptoms. Further surveys, especially cohort studies and clinical trials are needed to confirm these results.

RESUMO

Salvianolic acid B(Sal B), tanshinone Ⅱ_A(TSN Ⅱ_A), and glycyrrhetinic acid(GA) lipid emulsion(GTS-LE) was prepared by the high-speed dispersion method combined with ultrasonic emulsification. The preparation process of the emulsion was optimized by single-factor method and D-optimal method with appearance, centrifugal stability, and particle size of the emulsion as evalua-tion indexes, followed by verification. In vitro release of Sal B, TSN Ⅱ_A, and GA in GTS-LE was performed by reverse dialysis. In vivo pharmacokinetic evaluation was carried out in mice. The acute liver injury model was induced by acetaminophen. The effect of oral GTS-LE on the acute liver injury was investigated by serum liver function indexes and pathological changes in liver tissues of mice. The results showed that under the optimal preparation process, the average particle size of GTS-LE was(145.4±9.25) nm and the Zeta potential was(-33.6±1.45) mV.The drug-loading efficiencies of Sal B, TSN Ⅱ_A, and GA in GTS-LE were above 95%, and the drug release in vitro conformed to the Higuchi equation. The pharmacokinetic results showed that the C_(max) of Sal B, TSN Ⅱ_A, and GA in GTS-LE was 3.128, 2.7, and 2.85 times that of the GTS-S group, and AUC_(0-t) of Sal B, TSN Ⅱ_A, and GA in GTS-LE was 3.09, 2.23, and 1.9 times that of the GTS-S group. After intragastric administration of GTS-LE, the activities of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase were significantly inhibited, the content of malondialdehyde was reduced, and the structure of hepatocytes recovered to normal. In conclusion, GTS-LE can delay the release of Sal B and promote the release of TSN Ⅱ_A and GA.The encapsulation of three drug components in the emulsion can improve the oral bioavailability to varying degrees and can effectively prevent the acute liver injury caused by acetaminophen.

RESUMO

Psoriasis is a chronic and recurrent inflammatory skin disorder driven by a complex cascade of inflammatory mediators. The present study focused on the potential clinical significance of PGGT1B in psoriasis development. The peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from 81 psoriasis patients and 84 healthy controls, and the expression levels of PGGT1B in PBMCs were examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) methods. Furthermore, we tested the relationship between the level of PGGT1B in PBMCs and psoriasis severity. Also, we analyzed the potential significance of PGGT1B in psoriasis diagnosis. Finally, patients with psoriasis were divided into progressive and stable stage groups, and the differential expression of PGGT1B, TNF-α, IL-17, and IFN-γ between different phases were analyzed. PGGT1B was dramatically decreased in the psoriasis patients' PBMCs and negatively correlated with the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI). Moreover, receiver operating characteristics analysis showed the potential of differentially expressed PGGT1B in terms of distinguishing psoriasis patients from healthy controls. Finally, compared to the patients in the stable phase, PGGT1B was markedly reduced in patients' PBMCs in the progressive stage, while proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-17 were notably increased. PGGT1B was downregulated in psoriasis patients' PBMCs and may serve as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis.

RESUMO

Vitiligo is associated with oxidant stress and α-lipoic acid (ALA) is an antioxidative agent. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral ALA in combination with NB-UVB phototherapy on nonsegmental stable vitiligo. The prospective, multi-center, parallel controlled, double-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted from 2012 to 2014, in seven comprehensive tertiary hospitals in China. The patients were randomized into oral ALA group or placebo group at a dose of 300 mg daily for 6 months. All of them received NB-UVB phototherapy three times weekly. The repigmentation rate was evaluated by 4-point grading scale of improvement: >98%, 50-98%, 10-49%, <10%. A total of 133 patients were enrolled in the study, including 72 cases in treatment group and 61 cases in control group. In treatment group, 2.04% (1/49) patients achieved ≥50% improvement at 1-month after enrollment (M1), and the percentage of patients increased to 8.51% (4/47), 14.0% (6/43), and 37.8% (14/37) at M2, M3, and M6, respectively. In control group, the percentages were similar at all timepoints. No significant difference was seen between the two groups (P > .05). For elder patients, younger patients, male or female, no significant differences were found between treatment group and control group at all timepoints. ALA did not show additional benefit to NB-UVB therapy in the treatment of nonsegmental stable vitiligo. More studies should be done to identify other protocols of ALA or other types of antioxidants for stable vitiligo.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The surgical indications for liver hemangioma remain unclear. METHODS: Data from 152 patients with hepatic hemangioma who underwent hepatectomy between 2004 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. We analyzed characteristics including tumor size, surgical parameters, and variables associated with Kasabach-Merritt syndrome and compared the outcomes of laparoscopic and open hepatectomy. Here, we describe surgical techniques for giant hepatic hemangioma and report on two meaningful cases. RESULTS: Most (63.8%) patients with hepatic hemangioma were asymptomatic. Most (86.4%) tumors from patients with Kasabach-Merritt syndrome were larger than 15 cm. Enucleation (30.9%), sectionectomy (28.9%), hemihepatectomy (25.7%), and the removal of more than half of the liver (14.5%) were performed through open (87.5%) and laparoscopic (12.5%) approaches. Laparoscopic hepatectomy is associated with an operative time, estimated blood loss, and major morbidity and mortality rate similar to those of open hepatectomy, but a shorter length of stay. 3D image reconstruction is an alternative for diagnosis and surgical planning for partial hepatectomy. CONCLUSION: The main indication for surgery is giant (> 10 cm) liver hemangioma, with or without symptoms. Laparoscopic hepatectomy was an effective option for hepatic hemangioma treatment. For extremely giant hemangiomas, 3D image reconstruction was indispensable. Hepatectomy should be performed by experienced hepatic surgeons.

RESUMO

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic has been almost controlled in China under a series of policies, including "early diagnosis and early treatment". This study aimed to explore the association between early treatment with Qingfei Paidu decoction (QFPDD) and favorable clinical outcomes. In this retrospective multicenter study, we included 782 patients (males, 56 %; median age 46) with confirmed COVID-19 from 54 hospitals in nine provinces of China, who were divided into four groups according to the treatment initiation time from the first date of onset of symptoms to the date of starting treatment with QFPDD. The primary outcome was time to recovery; days of viral shedding, duration of hospital stay, and course of the disease were also analyzed. Compared with treatment initiated after 3 weeks, early treatment with QFPDD after less than 1 week, 1-2 weeks, or 2-3 weeks had a higher likelihood of recovery, with adjusted hazard ratio (HR) (95 % confidence interval [CI]) of 3.81 (2.65-5.48), 2.63 (1.86-3.73), and 1.92 (1.34-2.75), respectively. The median course of the disease decreased from 34 days to 24 days, 21 days, and 18 days when treatment was administered early by a week (P < 0.0001). Treatment within a week was related to a decrease by 1-4 days in the median duration of hospital stay compared with late treatment (P<0.0001). In conclusion, early treatment with QFPDD may serve as an effective strategy in controlling the epidemic, as early treatment with QFPDD was associated with favorable outcomes, including faster recovery, shorter time to viral shedding, and a shorter duration of hospital stay. However, further multicenter, prospective studies with a larger sample size should be conducted to confirm the benefits of early treatment with QFPDD.

RESUMO

Although homogeneous, high quality graphene can be fabricated on a Cu or Ni sheet using the traditional chemical vapour deposition method at high temperatures (over 1000 °C) under specific atmospheric conditions, their transfer to another substrate is difficult. In this paper a novel method of rapidly (i.e. 3-6 s of laser irradiation) producing a large area (>3 cm2) graphene film from olive oil on a glass surface (pre-coated with a 5-28 nm thick Ni film) with defocused, large area continuous laser irradiation is described. The turbostratic graphene film (6 layers) grown in such a way has shown high electrical conductivity (sheet resistance of around 20 Ω sq-1) and an optical transmittance of 40-50%. With femtosecond laser patterning, 70% optical transparency was demonstrated. Continuous large area graphene was formed at relatively lower temperatures (<250 °C) and without the need for specific atmospheric conditions. The basic process characteristics and mechanisms involved are discussed.

RESUMO

Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent skin disease requiring long-term management. Agents that repair the skin's barrier function are invaluable additives in topical treatments of psoriasis. This multicenter, randomized, controlled trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of a linoleic acid-ceramide-containing moisturizer (LA-Cer) for mild-to-moderate psoriasis vulgaris. We randomized 178 patients from both northern and southern regions of China into two groups: 81 patients in the control group received mometasone furoate (MF, 0.1%) cream, while MF in combination with LA-Cer was administered to 86 patients in the treatment group for 4 weeks. The LA-Cer-MF group maintained the use of moisturizer after topical glucocorticoid administration. The primary endpoint, Psoriasis Area and Severity Index 50 (PASI 50) response, revealed the superiority of LA-Cer-MF with lower relapse rates at week 8. The use of the LA-Cer-containing moisturizer as maintenance therapy resulted in a continuous improvement in the clinical state in terms of body surface area, PASI, investigators' assessment of skin dryness and desquamation, and Physician Global Assessment of Psoriasis score, and in the patients' quality of life. Thus, the LA-Cer-containing moisturizer is a promising agent to prevent and treat psoriasis as it enhances the therapeutic effect induced by topical glucocorticoids and delays relapse.

RESUMO

Health professions preventing and controlling Coronavirus Disease 2019 are prone to skin and mucous membrane injury, which may cause acute and chronic dermatitis, secondary infection and aggravation of underlying skin diseases. This is a consensus of Chinese experts on protective measures and advice on hand-cleaning- and medical-glove-related hand protection, mask- and goggles-related face protection, UV-related protection, eye protection, nasal and oral mucosa protection, outer ear, and hair protection. It is necessary to strictly follow standards of wearing protective equipment and specification of sterilizing and cleaning. Insufficient and excessive protection will have adverse effects on the skin and mucous membrane barrier. At the same time, using moisturizing products is highly recommended to achieve better protection.
