BACKGROUND: The evidence of interactive effect of the toxic metal (TM) mixture and apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 gene on cognitive impairment in older adults is scarce. We aimed to explore whether the associations of single TMs and their mixture with cognitive impairment depend on APOE ε4 in Chinese community-dwelling older people. METHODS: A total of 1148 older adults from a subset of the baseline survey of a cohort study were included. Blood arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), strontium (Sr), and vanadium (V) were detected by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. APOE gene (rs429358, rs7412) polymorphisms were analyzed by the Polymerase Chain Reaction instrument. Mixed effects logistic regression was applied to estimate the relationships of single TMs and APOE genotype with cognitive impairment. Weighted quantile sum (WQS) and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models were performed to examine joint impacts of the TM mixture, as well as the interaction of the TM mixture with APOE ε4 genotype on cognitive impairment. RESULTS: Pb displayed a significant linear association with an increased odds of cognitive impairment after adjustment for covariates (Ptrend = 0.045). While APOE genotype did not show a significant correlation with cognitive impairment. WQS showed that the TM mixture was associated with an increased risk of cognitive impairment by 31.0% (OR=1.31, 95% CI: 0.92, 1.87) while no significance was found. BKMR exhibited a significant linear association between the TM mixture and cognitive impairment. Moreover, both WQS and BKMR indicated that Pb contributed the most to cognitive impairment within the mixture. Significant interactions of Pb or the TM mixture and APOE genotype on cognitive impairment were observed, contributing to 38.1% and 38.2% of total effects, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: APOE ε4 allele amplifies the associations of single Pb or the TM mixture with cognitive impairment. These findings may help to develop precision prevention.

Previous studies have related single toxic metals (TMs) to hyperuricemia (HUA) among the general population, however, the association of the TM mixture with HUA, especially in older adults, remains poorly understood. We aimed to examine the relationships between individual TMs and their mixture and HUA in Chinese rural older adults. This study consisted of 2075 rural older adults aged 60 years or over. Blood concentrations of aluminum (Al), arsenic (As), barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), cesium (Cs), gallium (Ga), mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), thallium (Tl), and uranium (U) were detected using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The associations of single TMs with HUA were assessed using logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models, and the association of TM mixture with HUA was explored using the elastic net with environmental risk score (ENET-ERS), quantile g-computation (QGC), and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models, respectively. Adjusted logistic regression model showed that Cs (OR = 1.65, 95% CI 1.37-1.99) and Pb (OR = 1.46, 95% CI 1.28-1.67) were positively related to HUA, and RCS model exhibited a positive linear association of Cs and Pb with HUA. ENET-ERS and QGC models quantified a positive correlation between the TM mixture and the odds of HUA, with estimated ORs of 1.15 (95% CI 1.11-1.19) and 1.84 (95% CI 1.37-2.47), respectively, and Cs and Pb had the most weight. BKMR model demonstrated a significant linear association between the TM mixture and increased odds of HUA, with the posterior inclusion probabilities (PIPs) of both Cs and Pb being 1.00. Moreover, we observed a positive interaction between Cs and Pb on HUA. The TM mixture is associated with increased odds of HUA in rural older adults, which may mainly be driven by Cs and Pb. Subsequent studies are warranted to confirm these findings and clarify the mechanisms linking multiple TMs with HUA.

Poly(ethylene oxide) has been widely investigated as a potential separator for solid-state lithium metal batteries. However, its applications were significantly restricted by low ionic conductivity and a narrow electrochemical stability window (<4.0 V vs Li/Li+) at room temperature. Herein, a novel molecular self-assembled ether-based polyrotaxane electrolyte was designed using different functional units and prepared by threading cyclic 18-crown ether-6 (18C6) to linear poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) via intermolecular hydrogen bond and terminating with hexamethylene diisocyanate trimer (HDIt), which was strongly confirmed by local structure-sensitive solid/liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. The designed electrolyte has shown an obviously increased room-temperature ionic conductivity of 3.48 × 10-4 S cm-1 compared to 1.12 × 10-5 S cm-1 without assembling polyrotaxane functional units, contributing to the enhanced cycling stability of batteries with both LiFePO4 and LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 cathode materials. This advanced molecular self-assembled strategy provides a new paradigm in designing solid polymer electrolytes with demanded performance for lithium metal batteries.

PURPOSE: Aspirin has been suggested to reduce the risk of cancer. However, previous studies have been inconsistent regarding the relationship between aspirin use and the risk of occurrence of prostate cancer (PCa). The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of aspirin on clinical outcomes in patients with PCa in a meta-analysis and to explore the possible dose-response relationship. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in 10 electronic databases and 4 registries. The combined relative risks (RRs) were calculated using a random-effects model with 95% confidence interval (CIs) to assess the effect of aspirin on the risk of PCa. Relevant subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were performed. RESULTS: The across studies results show that aspirin use associated with lower incidence of PCa (RR: 0.96, 95% CI: 0.95-0.98), and reduced mortality (RR: 0.88, 95% CI: 0.82-0.95). The results of the subgroup analysis indicated that both cohort and population studies in the Americas showed a reduction in PCa incidence and mortality with aspirin use. A linear correlation was observed between dosage/duration of aspirin use and its protective effect. Additionally, post-diagnosis aspirin use was associated with decreased risk of PCa mortality. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis revealed an independent correlation between the use of aspirin and reductions in both the incidence and mortality rates of PCa. However, randomized controlled trials did not find any association between aspirin use and PCa. Furthermore, the impact of aspirin on PCa occurrence was found to be dependent on both dosage and duration.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to explore the development of psychological resilience and its associations with emotional and behavioral health among preschool left-behind children (LBC). METHODS: LBC in 26 preschools of Fuyang City, Hefei City, and Maanshan City of Anhui Province were included at baseline survey; and baseline children in the junior and middle classes of preschools as targeted samples were recruited for the 1-year follow-up. Multivariable linear regression models were performed to examine associations of psychological resilience with emotional and behavioral health. RESULTS: In total, 1463 LBC were included at baseline and 568 of the 905 targeted LBC completed the 1-year follow-up. Change patterns of psychological resilience were identified as the stable-high pattern (19.0%), increasing pattern (18.3%), declining pattern (15.9%), and stable-low pattern (46.8%). The results showed that psychological resilience at baseline was positively associated with later dietary behavior habits and prosocial behaviors, and negatively associated with later problematic behaviors and sleep problems. In addition, children with the declining pattern had more problematic behaviors and sleep problems, and fewer prosocial behaviors at follow-up. Children with the increasing pattern and stable-high pattern had more prosocial behaviors, better dietary behavior habits, and fewer problematic behaviors and sleep problems at follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of preschool LBC had lower psychological resilience and its level among some LBC changed during the follow-up. Higher psychological resilience was a protective factor for emotional and behavioral health. Timely assessing psychological resilience and then strengthening it are needed to promote the emotional and behavioral health of preschool LBC.

Adverse childhood experiences are a widespread phenomenon that can have a variety of negative effects on children. Emotional and behavioral problems (EBP) in children have been gaining interest in recent years. Therefore, this study aims to explore the association between emotional and physical abuse (EPA) and preschool children's EBP, as well as to assess the mediating effects of family function and resilience in this association. A cross-sectional study was conducted, and we recruited 3,636 participants from 26 kindergartens in three cities. Correlation analysis and regression analysis were used to test the relationships between EPA, mediators (family function and resilience), and EBP. Structural equation modeling was used to perform the mediation analyses. The results of this study showed that EPA predicted EBP in preschool children, family function, and resilience independently and in combination to mediate the relationship. Therefore, improving family function and increasing children's level of resilience are beneficial methods for the prevention and intervention of EBP in preschool children who experience EPA, but most fundamentally to avoid or reduce the occurrence of abuse. Further longitudinal studies are needed to confirm our findings and explore possible mediating mechanisms.

Air pollution is a major public health concern in China. Notwithstanding this, there is limited evidence regarding the impact of short-term exposure to ambient ozone on cardiovascular mortality in the Chinese population. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to address this important question. The random-effects model was applied to pool the results from individual studies. Finally, 32 effect estimates extracted from 19 studies were pooled in this meta-analysis. The pooled relative risk for cardiovascular mortality for each 10 µg/m3 increment in ozone concentration was 1.0068 (95% CI: 1.0049, 1.0086). Ths significant positive association between ozone exposure and cardiovascular mortality was also observed in different two-pollutant models. This meta-analysis revealed that exposure to ozone was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality in China, and more efforts on controlling the population from ozone are needed to improve cardiovascular health of Chinese population.

BACKGROUND: It is well-documented that heavy metals are associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, there is few studies exploring effect of metal mixture on CVD. Therefore, the primary objective of present study was to investigate the joint effect of heavy metals on CVD and to identify the most influential metals in the mixture. METHODS: Original data for study subjects were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. In this study, adults with complete data on 12 kinds of urinary metals (antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, cobalt, cesium, molybdenum, mercury, lead, thallium, tungsten, and uranium), cardiovascular disease, and core covariates were enrolled. We applied five different statistical strategies to examine the CVD risk with metal exposure, including multivariate logistic regression, adaptive elastic net combined with Environmental Risk Score, Quantile g-computation, Weighted Quantile Sum regression, and Bayesian kernel machine regression. RESULTS: Higher levels of cadmium, tungsten, cobalt, and antimony were significantly associated with Increased risk of CVD when covariates were adjusted for multivariate logistic regression. The results from multi-pollutant strategies all indicated that metal mixture was positively associated with the risk of CVD. Based on the results of multiple statistical strategies, it was determined that cadmium, tungsten, cobalt, and antimony exhibited the strongest positive correlations, whereas barium, lead, molybdenum, and thallium were most associated with negative correlations. CONCLUSION: Overall, our study demonstrates that exposure to heavy metal mixture is linked to a higher risk of CVD. Meanwhile, this association may be driven primarily by cadmium, tungsten, cobalt, and antimony. Further prospective studies are warranted to validate or refute our primary findings as well as to identify other important heavy metals linked with CVD.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to compare and determine whether there were any differences in clinical outcomes between pregnant and non-pregnant women who had been infected with COVID-19. METHODS: A literature search was performed in 9 databases on November 20, 2021. The relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was used to estimate the effect of pregnancy on COVID-19 outcomes. The I square value was used to assess heterogeneity, and the random or the fixed-effects model were adopted. Sensitivity and publication bias analyses were performed. RESULTS: This study included 8 published studies with 859,278 COVID-19 female patients. The incidences of fever and cough among pregnant women with COVID-19 were 19.07% and 28.79%, respectively. Pregnancy was associated with significantly increased risks of intensive care unit (ICU) admission (RR = 2.23, 95% CI = 1.58-3.16) and ventilation (RR = 2.13, 95% CI = 1.06-4.28), but was not associated with a statistically significant increase in mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that pregnant women with COVID-19 have a significantly higher probability of being hospitalized to the ICU and ventilation than non-pregnant women with COVID-19. To avoid these adverse outcomes, pregnant women should take precautions (for example, reduce going out, maintain social distance, and wear a mask) to avoid COVID-19 infection. Finally, additional research into the fetal outcomes is required to better investigate the impact of COVID-19 on pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to heavy elements is considered one of the risks of hearing loss. The combined effect of multiple metals on different hearing losses has not been extensively studied. METHODS: This study deals with the association between different metals (Ba, Cd, Co, Cs, Mo, Pb, Mn, Sn, Sb, Tl, W) and hearing loss in the 2013-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Associations were estimated by a generalized linear regression model (GLM) adjusting for age, gender, race/ethnicity, educational level, marital status, drinking status, hypertension, diabetes, smoking status, noise exposure, body mass index, and income-poverty ratio. The joint effects of mixed exposure were assessed by weighted quantile sum (WQS) model and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR). The effect of multiple metals on speech-frequency hearing loss (SFHL) and high-frequency hearing loss (HFHL) was further calculated. The odds ratio (OR) indicates the risk of every metal exposure. RESULTS: A total of 2205 adult participants were enrolled from NHANES. Cd, Pb, Sb and Sn had significant effects on total hearing loss. The WQS model found that mixed exposure to heavy elements was significantly positively associated with total hearing loss (OR: 1.136; 95% CI: 1.031, 1.253) after adjusting for various covariates. The ORs of mixed exposure in the SFHL and HFHL groups were 1.066 (95% CI: 0.994, 1.143) and 1.102 (95% CI: 1.013, 1.199), respectively. BKMR found a significant positive association between multiple metals and hearing loss. The results showed that there may be potential interactions between Cd, Pb and other metals. CONCLUSIONS: Multiple metals have joint effects on hearing loss in the United States. The findings provide practitioners with important scientific evidence for possible interventions.

RESUMO

A RuO2 shell was uniformly coated on the surface of core CNTs by a simple sol-gel method, and the resulting composite was used as a catalyst in a rechargeable Li-O2 battery. This core-shell structure can effectively prevent direct contact between the CNT and the discharge product Li2 O2 , thus avoiding or reducing the formation of Li2 CO3 , which can induce large polarization and lead to charge failure. The battery showed a high round-trip efficiency (ca. 79 %), with discharge and charge overpotentials of 0.21 and 0.51 V, respectively, at a current of 100 mA gtotal (-1) . The battery also exhibited excellent rate and cycling performance.

Many studies have established a correlation between air pollution and green space with age-related diseases, yet the relationship between air pollution, green space, and frailty among older adults is not fully understood. The primary objective of this investigation is to examine the longitudinal association among air pollution, green space, and frailty in older adults, as well as the potential interaction and mediating effect. Analyzed data were obtained from the multi-wave CLHLS investigation (2008-2018). The participants' environmental exposure was evaluated using six air pollutants (PM1, PM2.5, PM10, PM10-2.5, O3, and NO2), and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Annual ambient air pollutants were estimated using satellite-based spatiotemporal models. Time-varying Cox proportional risk models were employed to investigate the longitudinal relationships between air pollutants, greenness, and the onset of frailty in the elderly population. We conducted a variety of subgroup analyses, sensitivity analyses, and assessed potential interaction and causal mediating effects. A total of 6953 eligible elderly individuals were enrolled in our study. In the fully adjusted model, per IQR uptick in levels of PM1, PM2.5, PM10, PM10-2.5, O3, and NO2 corresponded to a 17% (95% CI 1.10-1.24), 25% (95% CI 1.17-1.34), 29% (95% CI 1.20-1.39), 35% (95% CI 1.24-1.47), 12% (95% CI 1.04-1.20), and 11% (95% CI 1.05-1.18) increase in frailty risk, respectively. For NDVI, increased IQR was significantly negatively associated with the risk of frailty (aHR 0.82, 95% CI 0.77-0.87). Our results revealed a significant interaction effect among O3, NO2, and residential greenness. PM1, PM2.5, PM10, and PM10-2.5 play a mediating role in the estimated relationship between residential greenness and frailty. In summary, our study reveals that PM1, PM2.5, PM10, PM10-2.5, O3, and NO2 correspond to elevated risks of frailty in the elderly. Residential greenness is associated with a lower risk of frailty in the elderly. Residential greenness can exert a positive impact on frailty by reducing particulate matter concentrations.

Solid-state Li metal batteries (SSLMBs) are widely investigated since they possess promising energy density and high safety. However, the poor interfacial compatibility between the electrolyte and electrodes limits their promising development. Herein, a robust composite electrolyte (poly(vinyl ethylene carbonate) electrolyte with 3 wt % of BaTiO3, PVEC-3BTO) with excellent interfacial performance is rationally designed by incorporating ferroelectric BaTiO3 (BTO) nanoparticles into the poly(vinyl ethylene carbonate) (PVEC) electrolyte matrix. Benefiting from the high dielectric constant and ferroelectric properties of BTO, the interfacial compatibility between electrolytes and electrodes was significantly improved. The enhanced Li+ transference number (0.64) of solid electrolyte and in situ generated BaF2 inorganic interphase contribute to the enhanced cycling stability of PVEC-3BTO based Li//Li symmetrical batteries. Furthermore, the antioxidation ability of PVEC-3BTO has also been enhanced by modulating the local electric field for good pairing with high-voltage LiCoO2 material. Therefore, in this work, the mechanism of BTO for improving interfacial compatibility is revealed, and also useful methods for addressing the interface issues of SSLMBs have been provided.

BACKGROUND: The interaction between physical activity (PA) and ambient particulate matters (PMs) on cognition is rarely investigated. Our study aimed to assess the interactions of PA and PMs on cognitive function in older adults. METHODS: Our study comprised 3937 Chinese community-dwelling older adults. Cognition was evaluated using the Mini-Mental State Examination. PA information was gathered using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. The data of PMs were obtained from China High Air Pollutants (CHAP). Linear regressions model and interaction plots were applied to assess and visualize the interaction of PA and PMs on cognition, respectively. Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) method was employed to visualize discernible thresholds for the interaction. RESULTS: PMs were negatively associated with MMSE scores (PM1: ß = -0.40, 95 % CI: -0.58, -0.28; PM2.5: ß = -0.46, 95 % CI: -0.64, -0.29; PM10: ß = -0.44, 95 % CI: -0.61, -0.26), and PA was positively affiliated with MMSE scores (ß = 0.18, 95 % CI: -0.01, 0.38). Interaction plots and BKMR demonstrated that adverse connotations of PMs with MMSE increased with the elevated PA levels, and the positive associations of PA with MMSE scores were attenuated by increased PMs (all Pinteraction < 0.20). Discernible thresholds for the interaction between PMs and PA on MMSE were found. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that PA should not be taken at higher PMs concentrations, and that low level of PA could be performed in PMs polluted environment to improve cognitive function. Further experimental and cohort researches are required to reproduce our discovery.

PURPOSE: This meta-analysis aimed to clarify the relationship between particulate matter (PM) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in detail. METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed using eight databases before April 9, 2022. The estimated effects were combined separately according to the PM type. Subgroup analyses were conducted in terms of the study design type, study location, exposure window, birth year, and sex. RESULTS: PM2.5 was associated with an increased risk of ASD, while PM10 was not. PMc, PM1, and diesel particulate matter (DPM) were also associated with an increased risk of ASD. Specifically, a 10 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5 was associated with a 1.337-fold increased risk of ASD in children, and a 10 µg/m3 increase in PMc and PM1 may increase the risk of ASD by 1.062 and 3.643 times, respectively. PM2.5 exposure may increase the risk of ASD in boys. Exposure to PMc might increase the risk of ASD in children born after the year 2000. The combined results of different PM differed between studies with continuous and non-continuous data for different study design type, study location, and birth year. The sensitive window for PM2.5 exposure to increase the risk of ASD may be from the first, second, and third trimesters to the first year of the postnatal period. Exposure to PMc during pregnancy was significantly associated with ASD. CONCLUSION: Exposure to PM2.5 may increase the risk of ASD in boys. Exposure to PM2.5 during the first, second, and third trimesters and postnatally increased the risk of ASD.

PURPOSE: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common metabolic disease in pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a history of abortion increases the risk of GDM by meta-analysis. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in nine databases of studies on the association between abortion history and GDM up to April 12, 2022. Fixed- or random-effects models were used to estimate the pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% CI. The I square value (I2) was used to assess heterogeneity. Possible sources of heterogeneity were explored by conducting subgroup analysis and meta-regression. A sensitivity analysis was also performed for this meta-analysis. Publication bias was assessed by funnel plots and Egger's tests. RESULTS: Thirty-one studies enrolling 311,900 subjects were included in this meta-analysis. The risk of GDM was higher in women who experienced abortion than in those who did not (OR = 1.41 95% CI: 1.28-1.55, I2 = 66.8%). The risk of GDM increased with an increasing number of abortions (1 time: OR = 1.67, 95% CI = 1.26-2.22; 2 times: OR = 2.10, 95% CI = 1.26-3.49; ≥3 times: OR = 2.49, 95% CI = 1.24-5.01). Both spontaneous abortion (OR = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.30-1.78) and induced abortion (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.03-1.11) were associated with an increased risk of GDM. CONCLUSIONS: A history of abortion was associated with an increased risk of GDM in pregnant women, which may be a risk factor for predicting GDM.

Previous studies indicate that pesticide use may play an important role in the occurrence and development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA); however, little is known about the effect of specific pesticides on RA. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether pyrethroid exposure was linked to RA in adults. Data were originated from the 2007-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The levels of pyrethroid exposure were assessed by 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA) concentrations in urine samples. We built multivariate logistic regression models to assess associations between pyrethroid exposure and RA among US adults. A restricted cubic spline plot (three knots) was applied to test whether there was a nonlinear relationship between exposure to pyrethroid pesticides and the prevalence of RA. Finally, 4384 subjects were included in our analysis with 278 RA patients. In crude model, higher level of 3-PBA (creatinine-adjusted) was positively associated with RA (OR: 1.51, 95% CI: 1.07, 2.15). After adjustment for sex, race/ethnicity, education, body mass index, family poverty income, level of education, marital status, smoking status, alcohol usage, physical activity, hypertension, and urinary creatinine, the highest (vs lowest) quartile of 3-PBA was associated with an increased prevalence of RA (OR: 1.23, 95% CI: 0.86, 1.79). Significantly positive associations between 3-PBA concentration and RA were observed in the population aged between 40 and 59 years and with lower level of education. The restricted cubic spline plot presented an increase in trend and indicated that pyrethroid exposure was linearly associated with occurrence of RA (p for nonlinearity = 0.728). In conclusion, our study indicated that pyrethroid pesticide exposure was associated with an increased risk of RA. Higher levels of pyrethroid exposure were linearly associated with increased prevalence of RA in adults. Certainly, our findings are in great need of further corroboration by prospective studies with strict design.

The "single-crystal" lithium-rich layered oxide (SC-LLO) material is applied for the first time to construct a composite cathode by a co-sintering process for garnet-based high-energy all-solid-state lithium metal batteries, which exhibit the high initial discharge capacity of ∼226 mA h g-1, and good capacity retention after tens of cycles.

BACKGROUND: Frailty is a complex geriatric syndrome caused by degenerative changes in the body or various chronic diseases. The use of personal care and consumer products is associated with a wide range of health outcomes, but its relationship with frailty remains unknown. Therefore, our primary aim was to explore the potential links between exposure to phenols and phthalates, either separately or in combination, and frailty. METHODS: The exposure levels of phthalates and phenols were evaluated through the measurement of metabolites in urine samples. Frailty state was assessed by a 36-item frailty index with values ≥ 0.25 indicating frailty. Weighted logistic regression was used to explore the relationship between individual chemical exposure and frailty. In addition, multi-pollutant strategies (WQS, Qgcomp, BKMR) were used to examine the joint effect of chemical mixture on frailty. A series of subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were conducted as well. RESULTS: In the multivariate logistic regression model, each unit increase in natural log-transformed BPA (OR: 1.21; 95%CI: 1.04, 1.40), MBP (OR: 1.25; 95%CI: 1.07, 1.46), MBzP (OR: 1.18; 95%CI: 1.03, 1.36), and MiBP (OR: 1.19; 95%CI: 1.03, 1.37) were significantly associated with higher odds of frailty. The results of the WQS and Qgcomp indicated that increasing quartiles of chemical mixture was associated with odds of frailty with ORs of 1.29 (95%CI: 1.01, 1.66) and 1.37 (95%CI: 1.06, 1.76). The weight of MBzP is dominant in both the WQS index and the positive weight of Qgcomp. In the BKMR model, the cumulative effect of chemical mixture was positively correlated with the prevalence of frailty. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, higher levels of BPA, MBP, MBzP, and MiBP are significantly associated with higher odds of frailty. Our study provides preliminary evidence that phenol and phthalate biomarker mixture is positively associated with frailty, with MBzP contributing most to the positive association.

Postpartum depression (PPD) occurs frequently among postpartum women. Stressful life events (SLE) have gradually been recognized as risk factors for PPD. However, research on this topic has produced equivocal results. The purpose of this study was to explore whether women who experienced prenatal SLE had a higher prevalence of PPD. Electronic databases were systematically searched until October 2021. Only prospective cohort studies were included. Pooled prevalence ratios (PRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using random effects models. This meta-analysis included 17 studies involving 9822 individuals. Women who experienced prenatal SLE had a higher prevalence for PPD (PR = 1.82, 95%CI = 1.52-2.17). In subgroup analyses, a 112% and 78% higher prevalence of depressive disorders (PR = 2.12, 95%CI = 1.34-3.38) and depressive symptoms (PR = 1.78, 95%CI = 1.47-2.17) were detected in women who experienced prenatal SLE. The effect of SLE on PPD at postpartum different time points differed: PR = 3.25 (95%CI = 2.01-5.25) for ≤6 weeks, PR = 2.01 (95%CI = 1.53-2.65) for 7-12 weeks, PR = 1.17 (95%CI = 0.49-2.31) for >12 weeks. No obvious publication bias was detected. The findings support that prenatal SLE increase the prevalence of PPD. The effect of SLE on PPD tends to slightly decrease during the postpartum period. Furthermore, these findings highlight the importance of screening for PPD as early as possible, particularly among postpartum women who have experienced SLE.
