RESUMO

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have gained significant popularity in both military and civilian applications due to their cost-effectiveness and flexibility. However, the increased utilization of UAVs raises concerns about the risk of illegal data gathering and potential criminal use. As a result, the accurate detection and identification of intruding UAVs has emerged as a critical research concern. Many algorithms have shown their effectiveness in detecting different objects through different approaches, including radio frequency (RF), computer vision (visual), and sound-based detection. This article proposes a novel approach for detecting and identifying intruding UAVs based on their RF signals by using a hierarchical reinforcement learning technique. We train a UAV agent hierarchically with multiple policies using the REINFORCE algorithm with entropy regularization term to improve the overall accuracy. The research focuses on utilizing extracted features from RF signals to detect intruding UAVs, which contributes to the field of reinforcement learning by investigating a less-explored UAV detection approach. Through extensive evaluation, our findings show the remarkable results of the proposed approach in achieving accurate RF-based detection and identification, with an outstanding detection accuracy of 99.7%. Additionally, our approach demonstrates improved cumulative return performance and reduced loss. The obtained results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed solution in enhancing UAV security and surveillance while advancing the field of UAV detection.

RESUMO

Radiomics is an emerging field in radiology that utilizes advanced statistical data characterizing algorithms to evaluate medical imaging and objectively quantify characteristics of a given disease. Due to morphologic heterogeneity and genetic variation intrinsic to neoplasms, radiomics have the potential to provide a unique insight into the underlying tumor and tumor microenvironment. Radiomics has been gaining popularity due to potential applications in disease quantification, predictive modeling, treatment planning, and response assessment - paving way for the advancement of personalized medicine. However, producing a reliable radiomic model requires careful evaluation and construction to be translated into clinical practices that have varying software and/or medical equipment. We aim to review the diagnostic utility of radiomics in otorhinolaryngology, including both cancers of the head and neck as well as the thyroid.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Imaging features of lymphoma vary regionally. Awareness of site-specific key imaging characteristics of lymphoma can aid in rapid staging and assist in prompt treatment. FDG PET/CT and conventional MRI are readily available diagnostic modalities with excellent sensitivity and good specificity. Diagnostic specificity can be enhanced using emerging PET radiotracers, e.g., FLT and FET. RECENT FINDINGS: Emerging research has shown higher dimensional analysis (radiomics and radiogenomics) of imaging data can yield information of the underlying genetic aberrations in lymphoma, which can aid in assessing real-time evolution of tumor. CT, PET/CT, MRI, and ultrasound accentuate the intrinsic qualities of lymphoma (e.g., FDG PET/CT for increased metabolic activity, FLT PET/CT for increased proliferation index, and DWI for increased cellularity) and play an essential role in its diagnosis and examination. Advanced radiogenomic analyses use radiomic parameters to deduce genetic variations of lymphoma, providing noninvasive, repeatable, and real-time surveillance of its genetic progression.

In this report, highly crystalline and well-dispersed nano-sized nickel metal organic framework (MOFs) was decorated over graphene oxide (GO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) platforms to form hybrid nanocomposites. These as-synthesized hybrid nanocomposites were synthesized through a one-pot green solvothermal method. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized by SEM, TEM, EDS, XRD, FT-IR, Raman and TGA techniques. XRD analysis revealed the crystalline structure of the hybrid nanocomposites. Morphological and elemental studies also verified successful decoration of nickel-benzene dicarboxylate (Ni-BDC) MOFs over GO and CNT platforms. Chemical analysis collected through IR, and thermal analysis collected through TGA technique, illustrated the presence of all the components in the hybrid nanomaterials. Methylene blue (MB) was used as a model organic pollutant to analyze the adsorption capacity of the prepared nanocomposites. According to the findings, a strong interaction exists between the MB molecule and the developed adsorbents at which due to the synergistic effect, the hybrid nanocomposites show several times higher adsorption capacity compared to that of parent materials. This improvement can be due to several reasons: high surface area of the MOFs in the composites resulting from the smaller size of MOFs, presence of the pores formed between the MOFs and the platforms and different morphological characteristic of Ni-BDC MOFs in hybrid nanocomposites, compared to bare Ni-BDC MOFs. Furthermore, the isotherm and kinetic studies revealed that the adsorption of MB onto the newly prepared adsorbents could best be explained by the Langmuir and Pseudo-second order kinetic models. A regeneration study demonstrated the highly stable nature of the hybrid nanocomposites.

ABSTRACT: Citrus is one of the major exported fruits of Pakistan. Especially Kinnow cultivar is famous across the globe because of its aroma and taste. The overall production of citrus is reported as half of the potential because of the non-adoption of research-based practices and lack of agricultural extension services and training of the citrus growers. In the last few years, the department of agricultural extension has started training programs called Farmer Field Schools (FFS) for citrus growers in the major citrus growing zone of the Punjab province, i.e., Sargodha region. This research was conducted in the Sargodha district to evaluate the knowledge and skills gained by the farmers from the FFS. The interview schedule was designed for the purpose of data collection. The data was collected from 120 farmers randomly selected from 15 FFS in the study area. All the respondents were participants of the FFS. The data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The Results of the study showed that 40% of the farmers learned about citrus verities, one-third of respondents learned about the management of new plants/orchards, 28% of the respondents got knowledge about the cultivation of fruits, and one-fourth of respondents acquired knowledge and skills about layout and management of citrus orchards. These findings conclude that training course has a positive influence on farmers' farm management skills; hence emphasize on its persistence and further improvement by the concerned authorities.


RESUMO: Os citros são as principais frutas exportadas do Paquistão, especialmente, a cultivar Kinnow é famosa em todo o mundo por causa de seu aroma e sabor. A produção geral de citros é relatada como a metade do potencial devido a não adoção de práticas baseadas em pesquisas e a falta de serviços de extensão agrícola e treinamento dos citricultores. Nos últimos anos o departamento de extensão agrícola iniciou programas de treinamento chamados Farmer Field Schools (FFS) para citricultores na maior zona de cultivo de citros da província de Punjab, no distrito de Sargodha. Esta pesquisa é conduzida no distrito de Sargodha para avaliar o conhecimento e as habilidades adquiridas pelos agricultores da FFS. O cronograma de entrevistas foi elaborado para fins de coleta de dados. Os dados foram coletados de 120 agricultores aleatoriamente de 15 FFS na área de estudo. Todos os entrevistados eram participantes da FFS. Os dados foram analisados ​​por meio do programa estatístico "Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS"). PURPOSE: Colorectal cancer has a distinct clinicopathologic presentation in younger patients. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the outcome of younger (age below 50 y) and older patients with stage IV (advanced) colorectal cancer in the modern era of combination chemotherapy. METHODS: Cases of metastatic colorectal cancer reported in Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry (1973 to 2008) were reviewed. Demographics, tumor characteristics, and overall and cancer-specific survivals in patients below 50 and above 50 years of age were compared by Cox proportional hazard analyses. Joinpoint regression analysis was used to evaluate secular trends in 2-year survival. RESULTS: Younger patients had a greater proportion of negative clinicopathologic features (male sex, African American ethnicity, and signet ring or mucinous histology). In multivariate analysis, older age, male sex, African American ethnicity, right-sided tumors, and signet ring histology were associated with higher mortality risk. Younger patients had improved survival (hazard ratio 0.72; 95% confidence interval: 0.70-0.75) compared with older patients, whereas all patients experienced increased 2-year survival by joinpoint analysis beginning in 1999-2000. CONCLUSIONS: The results confirm decreased mortality from advanced colorectal cancer in the era of modern combination chemotherapy in younger and older patients. Younger age, non-right-sided tumors, and absence of signet ring histology significantly associate with better survival.

Using the United States Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) 17 dataset, we examined incidence and survival patterns for patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) diagnosed following institution of the World Health Organization-European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (WHO-EORTC) classification. From 2005 to 2008, 2273 cases of CTCL were diagnosed. The age-adjusted incidence rate per 100,000 person-years for mycosis fungoides (MF) was 0.55 and for Sézary syndrome (SS) was 0.01. Incidence was higher among males (MF/SS male-to-female incidence rate ratio [IRR] 1.57) and black patients (MF black-to-white IRR 1.55). Black patients with CTCL were diagnosed at a younger age and black patients with MF/SS presented with advanced stage and had worse survival than white patients. In multiple-variable Cox-regression models, age > 60 (hazard ratio [HR] 4.78, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.97-7.70), black race (HR 2.09, 95% CI 1.29-3.37) and advanced stage (HR 6.06, 95% CI 3.66-10.05) predicted worse survival for patients with MF/SS. Additional research identifying reasons for these differences are necessary to better understand these diseases and for new strategies in the treatment of CTCL.
