RESUMO

Optical multiplexing technology plays a crucial role in various fields such as data storage, anti-counterfeiting, and time-resolved biological imaging. Nevertheless, employing single-wavelength phosphorescence for multiplexing often results in spectral overlap among the emission peaks of various channels, which can precipitate crosstalk and misinterpretation in the information-decoding process, thereby compromising the integrity and precision of the encrypted data. This paper proposes a time-divided colorful multiplexing technology based on phosphorescent carbon nanodots with different colors and lifetimes. Using different luminescence colors to symbolize varying information levels helps achieve multitiered information encryption and storage. By modulation of the lifetime and the emission wavelength, intricate information can be encoded, thereby enhancing the intricacy and security of the encryption mechanism. By assigning different data bits to each color, more information can be encoded in the same physical space. This method enables higher-density information storage and fortifies encryption, ensuring the compactness and security of information.

RESUMO

Room-temperature phosphorescent materials, renowned for their long luminescence lifetimes, have garnered significant attention in the field of optical materials. However, the challenges posed by thermally induced quenching have significantly hindered the advancement of luminescence efficiency and stability. In this study, thermally enhanced phosphorescent carbon nanodots (CND) are developed by incorporating them into fiber matrices. Remarkably, the phosphorescence lifetime of the thermally enhanced CND exhibits a twofold enhancement, increasing from 326 to 753 ms, while the phosphorescence intensity experienced a tenfold enhancement, increasing from 25 to 245 as the temperature increased to 373 K. Rigid fiber matrices can effectively suppress the non-radiative transition rate of triplet excitons, while high temperatures can desorb oxygen adsorbed on the surface of the CND, disrupting the interaction between the CND and oxygen. Consequently, a thermally enhanced phosphorescence is obtained. In addition, benefiting from the thermally enhanced phosphorescence property of CND, a warning indicator with an anti-counterfeiting function for monitoring cold-chain logistics is demonstrated based on CND.

RESUMO

Due to the high conversion properties, azide compounds are widely utilized in organic synthesis. For instance, azide compounds readily release nitrogen to form a new N-C bond when they function as radical acceptors for the active intermediates in the reaction. Over the past decade, strategies employing azides as radical acceptors to construct nitrogen heterocycles have been extensively developed. This approach has emerged as a crucial method for synthesizing nitrogen heterocycles. Therefore, this paper provides a review of the research advancements in tandem cyclization reactions using azides as radical acceptors, summarizing the process of reaction design, exploration, reasoning of the mechanism, and prospects for further research of these reactions.

RESUMO

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the therapeutic efficacy of a combined treatment approach involving specialized head scraping (Guasha) in conjunction with Kaitianmen to manage insomnia. Methods: We conducted a study involving 90 individuals with insomnia who received treatment at our hospital between March 2022 and March 2023. These participants were selected and randomly assigned to either a research group (n = 45) or a control group (n = 45). The control group received oral Diazepam (DZ), while the research group underwent specialized head scraping and Kaitianmen therapy. Comparative assessments were made between the two groups, considering clinical efficacy, pre-and post-treatment Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) symptom scores, as well as evaluations of sleep quality and negative emotions (NEs) using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Self-rating Anxiety/Depression Scale (SAS/SDS), respectively. Additionally, a treatment satisfaction survey was administered at discharge. Results: The research group exhibited a significantly higher overall response rate compared to the control group (P < .05). Both groups displayed substantial reductions in TCM symptom scores, PSQI scores, and SAS/SDS scores following treatment, with the research group achieving even lower scores (P < .05). The treatment satisfaction survey indicated a greater degree of satisfaction among participants in the research group compared to the control group (P < .05). Conclusions: The combination of specialized head scraping and Kaitianmen therapy has demonstrated effectiveness in the treatment of insomnia and offers a valid means of alleviating patients' negative emotions. These findings suggest promising prospects for clinical applications.

RESUMO

This study aims to investigate the correlations between islet function/ insulin resistance and serum lipid levels, as well as to assess whether the strength of such correlations is affected by the GCKR rs1260326 variant in healthy and T2D individuals. We performed an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) on 4889 middle-aged adults, including 3135 healthy and 1754 T2D individuals from the REACTION population study in the Nanjing region. We also measured their serum lipid levels and genotyped for rs1260326. We found that serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and triglyceride (TG) levels were independently correlated with indexes of islet function (HOMA-ß and IGI [insulinogenic index]) and insulin resistance (HOMO-IR and ISIMatsuda) in both healthy and T2D individuals. The correlations were significantly decreased in T2D individuals, with significant heterogeneities compared to healthy controls (I2 > 75%, Phet < 0.05). Although no correlation was observed between serum total cholesterol (TC) level and islet function/ insulin resistance in healthy controls, significant correlations were found in T2D individuals, with significant heterogeneity to healthy controls in the correlation with ISIMatsuda(I2 = 85.3%, Phet = 0.009). Furthermore, we found significant interactions of the GCKR rs1260326 variant for the correlations between serum HDL cholesterol and HOMA-ß/ISIMatsuda in T2D subjects (P = 0.015 and 0.038, respectively). These findings illustrate that distinct correlations between serum lipid levels and islet function/ insulin resistance occurred in T2D subjects compared to healthy individuals. Common gene variants, such as rs1260326, might interact substantially when studied in specific populations, especially T2D disease status.

RESUMO

To reveal the effect of the incident polarization on the spin splitting of the photonic spin Hall effect (that is, the spatial and angular in-plane and out-of-plane spin splitting), we systematically study the phenomena and characteristics of these four spin splitting generated when the beam with arbitrary linear polarization is reflected from the non-absorbing medium interface and the absorbing medium interface. Several features of the relationship between the incident polarization and the four kinds of spin splitting are found. In addition, It is also found that the in-plane angular and spatial shifts are significantly enhanced near the critical angle, even reaching their theoretical upper limit. However, the out-of-plane shifts are not enhanced. The research in this paper will contribute to a deeper understanding of PSHE. These findings can also provide new ideas and methods for precision metrology, photonic manipulation, and photonic device fabrication.

RESUMO

T-2 toxin is the most potent and toxic mycotoxin, produced by various Fusarium species that can potentially affect human health, and widely exists in field crops and stored grain. In this work, an electrochemical aptasensor with nonenzymatic signal amplification strategy for the detection of T-2 toxin is presented, using noble metal nanocomposites and catalytic hairpin assembly as signal amplification strategy. Silver palladium nanoflowers and gold octahedron nanoparticles@graphene oxide nanocomposites are used for synergistic amplification of electrical signals. Simultaneously, the catalytic hairpin assembly strategy based on artificial molecular technology was introduced to further amplify the signal. Under optimal conditions, T-2 toxin was measured within a linear concentration range 1 × 10-2 ~ 1 × 104 pg·mL-1 with an extremely low detection limit of 6.71 fg·mL-1. The aptasensor exhibited high sensitivity, good selectivity, satisfactory stability, and excellent reproducibility. Moreover, this method had high accuracy in detecting T-2 toxin in beer sample. The encouraging results show the potential application in foodstuff analysis. A dual signal amplification electrochemical biosensor for the detection of T-2 toxins was constructed, through the signal amplification of noble metal nanomaterials and CHA strategy.

RESUMO

Licorice is a frequently applied herb with potential edible and medicinal value based on various flavonoids and triterpenes. However, studies on detailed flavonoid and triterpene metabolism and the molecular basis of their biosynthesis in licorice are very limited, especially under drought conditions. In the present study, we carried out transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome experiments. To ultimately combine three omics for analysis, we performed a bioinformatics comparison, integrating transcriptome data and proteome data through a Cloud platform, along with a simplified biosynthesis of primary flavonoids and triterpenoids in the KEGG pathway based on metabolomic results. The biosynthesis pathways of triterpenes and flavonoids are enriched at both gene and protein levels. Key flavonoid-related genes (PAL, 4CL, CHS, CHI, CYP93C, HIDH, HI4OMT, and CYP81E1_7) and representative proteins (HIDH, CYP81E1_7, CYP93C, and VR) were obtained, which all showed high levels after drought treatment. Notably, one R2R3-MYB transcription factor (Glyur000237s00014382.1), a critical regulator of flavonoid biosynthesis, achieved a significant upregulated expression as well. In the biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin, both gene and protein levels of bAS and CYP88D6 have been found with upregulated expression under drought conditions. Most of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and proteins (DEPs) showed similar expression patterns and positively related to metabolic profiles of flavonoid and saponin. We believe that suitable drought stress may contribute to the accumulation of bioactive constituents in licorice, and our research provides an insight into the genetic study and quality breeding in this plant.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To summarize the clinical features of neonates infected with Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). METHODS: The medical data of 23 neonates with Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to the City North Campus of Urumqi First People's Hospital from October to December 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: All 23 infants had a history of exposure to confirmed caregivers with SARS-CoV-2 infection after birth, and none of them was vertically transmitted. Clinical classification: 5 cases of asymptomatic infection, 18 cases of mild infection, and no cases of moderate, severe, or critically ill. The first symptoms were fever in 13 cases, cough in 3 cases, nasal congestion in 1 case, and diarrhea in 1 case. Blood white blood cell counts decreased in 2 cases, and C-reactive protein increased in 1 case. Seven infants underwent chest X-ray examination due to cough or shortness of breath, and one of which showed focal exudative changes, while the rest showed no abnormal changes. All infants were discharged after symptomatic treatment and the median hospital stay was 6 days. The duration of nucleic acid positivity of SARS-CoV-2 was negatively correlated with N gene Ct values and ORF1ab gene Ct values (rs=-0.719 and -0.699, respectively; P<0.05). One month after discharge, all infants had no symptoms or signs of nucleic acid re-positivity. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical manifestations are usually mild or asymptomatic in neonates infected with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant. The lower the Ct values of the N and ORF1ab genes of SARS-CoV-2, the longer the duration of nucleic acid positivity. Neonates infected with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant can have a good prognosis after symptomatic treatment.

RESUMO

Developing rapid detection technology for adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is crucial in quality supervision and food safety. Herein, an electrochemical aptasensor based on an aptazyme-catalyzed signal amplification strategy is constructed for ATP detection using polyethyleneimine-functionalized molybdenum disulfide (PEI-MoS2)/Au@PtPd nanobipyramids (MoS2/Au@PtPd NBPs) as a modification material. Additionally, a novel kind of nitrogen-rich covalent organic framework (COF) is prepared using melamine and cyanuric acid (MCA). We synthesize MCA and the Co-based metal organic framework (Co-MOF) as the signal label. Due to the fact that π-π stacking interactions of Co-MOF@MCA can expand the load efficiency and surface concentration of the signal label, the signal response is an order of magnitude higher than that of Co-MOF or MCA as the signal label. Target ATP changes the conformation of the aptazyme, and it becomes activated. With the assistance of metal ions, the signal label is circularly cleaved, causing an amplification of the signal. Among them, MoS2/Au@PtPd NBPs have a large specific surface area and good electrical conductivity and can carry substantial DNA strands and amplify the redox signal of methylene blue (MB). Under optimal conditions, the aptasensor can detect ATP from 10 pM to 100 µM with a low limit of detection of 7.37 × 10-10 µM. Therefore, the novel aptasensor has extensive application prospects in quality supervision and food safety.

RESUMO

BACKGROUNDS: As osteoarthritis (OA) disease-modifying therapies are not available, novel therapeutic targets need to be discovered and prioritized. Here, we aim to identify miRNA signatures in patients to fully elucidate regulatory mechanism of OA pathogenesis and advance in basic understanding of the genetic etiology of OA. METHODS: Six participants (3 OA and 3 controls) were recruited and serum samples were assayed through RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). And, RNA-seq dataset was analysed to identify genes, pathways and regulatory networks dysregulated in OA. The overlapped differentially expressed microRNAs (DEMs) were further screened in combination with the microarray dataset GSE143514. The expression levels of candidate miRNAs were further validated by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) based on the GEO dataset (GSE114007). RESULTS: Serum samples were sequenced interrogating 382 miRNAs. After screening of independent samples and GEO database, the two comparison datasets shared 19 overlapped candidate micRNAs. Of these, 9 up-regulated DEMs and 10 down-regulated DEMs were detected, respectively. There were 236 target genes for up-regulated DEMs and 400 target genes for those down-regulated DEMs. For up-regulated DEMs, the top 10 hub genes were KRAS, NRAS, CDC42, GDNF, SOS1, PIK3R3, GSK3B, IRS2, GNG12, and PRKCA; for down-regulated DEMs, the top 10 hub genes were NR3C1, PPARGC1A, SUMO1, MEF2C, FOXO3, PPP1CB, MAP2K1, RARA, RHOC, CDC23, and CREB3L2. Mir-584-5p-KRAS, mir-183-5p-NRAS, mir-4435-PIK3R3, and mir-4435-SOS1 were identified as four potential regulatory pathways by integrated analysis. CONCLUSIONS: We have integrated differential expression data to reveal putative genes and detected four potential miRNA-target gene pathways through bioinformatics analysis that represent new mediators of abnormal gene expression and promising therapeutic targets in OA.

RESUMO

Large-scale studies on genetic risk loci for melatonin receptor 1B (MTNR1B) gene and GDM risk have not been well generalized to the Chinese population. In this study, we performed two-stage case-control study: 1.429 pregnant women: 753 GDM/676 controls in the Southern Chinese population by genotyping 5 SNPs (rs10830963, rs1387153, rs2166706, rs1447352, and rs4753426) in MTNR1B. Genotypes were determined using the Sequenom MassARRAY platform and TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. Interactions between genetic variants and age/BMI as predictors of GDM risk were evaluated under the logistic regression model. In the first stage, the SNP rs10830963 was discovered to be potentially related to GDM risk (additive model: OR = 1.27, 95%CI = 1.05-1.55, P = 0.025), which was further confirmed in the second stage with a similar effect (additive model: OR = 1.53, 95%CI = 1.19-1.98, P = 0.005). In the combined stage, the G allele of rs10830963 was potentially associated with GDM risk (additive model: OR = 1.36, 95%CI = 1.17-1.59, P < 0.001; dominant model: OR = 1.45, 95%CI = 1.15-1.83, P = 0.005). The rs10830963 interacted with age and BMI to contribute to GDM risk in the combined participants. And, the similar interactive effects for the other four SNPs also exist. These findings offer the potential to improve our understanding of the etiology of GDM, and particularly of biological mechanisms.

RESUMO

BiVO4 has attracted much attention in recent years due to its active photocatalytic and microwave dielectric properties. BiVO4 exhibits a rich structural polymorphism, and its properties strongly depend on the crystalline phase. Therefore, it is of great importance to achieve an easy control of its crystalline phase. In the present work, phase stability and vibrational properties of fergusonite- and zircon-type BiVO4 are investigated up to 41.6 GPa by in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and first principles calculation. Upon compression, although having different initial structures, both types of BiVO4 consecutively transform to scheelite- and ß-fergusonite structures. For the first time reported for BiVO4, the ß-fergusonite structure is determined using first principles computational techniques and from refinement of the XRD data. Along the way, one new phase of BiVO4 is theoretically predicted at higher pressures. Moreover, both the fergusonite-to-scheelite and scheelite-to-ß-fergusonite transitions are reversible, while the zircon-to-scheelite transition is irreversible. A large volume collapse is observed associated with each phase transition, and the equations of state for different types of BiVO4 have been determined. These results provide new insights into the relationship between different structural types in the AVO4 family.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify miRNA as potential diagnostic biomarkers for silica-related pulmonary fibrosis (SPF). METHODS: We first performed a comprehensive miRNA-seq screening in PBL of eight subjects exposed to silica dust (four individuals with SPF and four healthy controls). The promising miRNA were then evaluated in the first-stage validation using an independent GEO data set (GSE80555) of 6 subjects (3 individuals with SPF and 3 healthy controls), followed by a second-stage validation using 120 subjects exposed to silica dust (60 individuals with SPF and 60 healthy controls). RESULTS: Thirty-five miRNA showed strong expression differences in miRNA-seq screening, while miRNA-4508 (P = 9.52 × 10-3 ) was retained as a candidate after the first-stage validation (GSE80555), which was further confirmed in the second-stage validation with similar and strong effect (P = 9.93 × 10-17 ). ROC analysis showed that miRNA-4508 could distinguish SPF cases from healthy controls with high AUC (0.886), with sensitivity of 81.7% and specificity of 86.7%. In addition, the miRNA-4508 upstream rs6576457 mutant A allele exhibited a strong association with susceptibility to SPF (OR = 1.64, 95% CI = 1.20-2.23, P = 0.002), while eQTL analysis revealed a potential association between different genotypes of rs6576457 and miRNA-4508 expression (P = 0.068) in 60 healthy subjects with silica dust exposure. CONCLUSION: miRNA-4508 may be a potential diagnostic marker for SPF, and rs6576457, a functional variant of miRNA-4508, may affect SPF susceptibility. The detailed mechanism of action of this miRNA remains to be elucidated.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study was aimed to roughly describe individual Trans Fatty Acids (TFAs) intake and the percentage of energy intake(E%), and identify major food sources in the Chinese population, taking gender, age, and regional distribution into the consideration, as well as examining temporal changes over the course of 20 years. METHOD: This multi-center study, covering nine provinces among populations aged ≥ 3 in China, was conducted to collect food consumption information from 1991 to 2011. A classical assessment method was used to estimate the level of dietary TFA intake. RESULTS: Over the 20-year period, the intake of TFAs in Chinese populations had increased, but remained at a relatively lower level (from 0.25 g/d(0.11% for E%) to 0.53 g/d(0.24% for E%)) compared with that of other countries and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended level. Collectively, males and participants aged 19-60 generally consumed more TFA-containing foods. People in eastern regions consumed more TFAs and had a higher E% than those in western area. Industrial sources of TFAs, especially vegetable oil, ranked as the principal food sources of TFAs in the Chinese population. Natural sources of TFAs have gradually increased in proportion among children and adolescents. CONCLUSIONS: TFA intake and the E% are commonly under the recommended level in the general population in China. Presently, restriction of vegetable oil could be a crucial method to reduce TFA intake. It would be critical to facilitate and promote public health that food recommendations might be based on the dietary preferences for population separated by different ages and regions.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The Joint United Nations Programme on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome has proposed the 90-90-90 targets by 2020. Human immunodeficiency virus epidemic is spreading rapidly among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. This study investigates how the scale-up of HIV testing and treatment in achieving the targets and its cost-effectiveness. METHODS: We constructed a compartmental model to forecast the HIV epidemic in Chinese MSM based on various "test-and-treat" scale-up scenarios. We assessed their cost effectiveness based on the cost for each HIV infection, death, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) prevented by the scale-up. RESULTS: If the current epidemic continued, HIV prevalence among Chinese MSM would increase from 9.2% in 2016 to 12.6% (9.2-15.6%) in 2020 and 16.2% (11.3-20.0%) in 2025. By 2020, 49.2% of infected MSM would be diagnosed and 40.1% of whom on treatment, falling short of the 90-90-90 targets, so would be even by 2025. To achieve these targets by 2020, additional 850,000 HIV screening tests and 112,500 person-years of antiretroviral treatment (ART) annually are necessary. This spending is US $478 million during 2016 to 2020, which almost tripled the status quo. However, by delaying to 2025, an investment of US $1210 million over 2016 to 2025 corresponding to 52% increase to the status quo, will enable extra 340,000 HIV screening tests and 60,000 person-year on ART annually. In both scenarios, the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was US $733 to 960 for each DALY prevented, indicating highly cost-effective scenarios. CONCLUSIONS: Achieving the 90-90-90 targets by 2020 requires steep increase in investment, but delaying the targets to 2025 is practical and cost-effective.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To compare the efficacies of oral glucosamine, chondroitin, the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin, acetaminophen and celecoxib on the treatment of knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. METHODS: We searched electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library and the reference lists of relevant articles published from inception to October 23, 2017. A Bayesian hierarchical random effects model was used to examine the overall effect size among mixed multiple interventions. RESULTS: We identified 61 randomised controlled trials of patients with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. There was no obvious difference in the results between the traditional meta-analysis and the network meta-analysis. The network meta-analysis demonstrated that celecoxib was most likely the best option (SMD, -0.32 [95% CI, -0.38 to -0.25]) for pain, followed by the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin. For physical function, all interventions were significantly superior to oral placebo except for acetaminophen. In terms of stiffness, glucosamine (SMD, -0.36 [95% CI, -0.67 to -0.06]) and celecoxib (SMD, -0.29 [95% CI, -0.51 to -0.08]) were significantly better compared to placebo. In view of safety, compared to placebo only, celecoxib and acetaminophen presented significant differences. CONCLUSIONS: Given the effectiveness of these non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and symptomatic slow-acting drugs, oral celecoxib is more effective than placebo on relieving pain and improving physical function, followed by the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin. Acetaminophen is likely the least efficacious intervention option. This information, accompanied by the tolerability and economic costs of the included treatments, would be conducive to making decisions for clinicians.

RESUMO

Previous meta-analysis has not shown different effects of miR-608 rs4919510 polymorphism in specific cancer types and reported no significant association between rs4919510 and cancer risk among Chinese. However, more recent findings have been inconsistent. Therefore, we performed an updated meta-analysis to examine whether this polymorphism is associated with cancer risk based on ethnicity and type. A total of 18 case-control studies, comprising 12,517 cases and 15,624 controls, were included in our study. Surprisingly, in contrast with previous meta-analysis, a significant association between the rs4919510 polymorphism and cancer risk was observed in Chinese (CG vs CC: odds ratio = 1.11; 95% confidence interval = 1.04-1.19). In further stratified analyses based on cancer type, rs4919510 was significantly associated with an increased risk of papillary thyroid cancer (CG vs CC: odds ratio = 1.25; 95% confidence interval = 1.01-1.54) and exhibited borderline significant associations with increased risk of gastric cancer (GG vs CC: odds ratio = 1.27; 95% confidence interval = 1.00-1.62) and lung cancer (CG vs CC: odds ratio = 1.14; 95% confidence interval = 0.99-1.32), but a decreased risk of colorectal cancer (GG vs CC: odds ratio = 0.74; 95% confidence interval = 0.60-0.91). Moreover, the RegulomeDB database indicated that rs4919510 may affect the expression of two nearby genes ( SEMA4G and MRPL43), and the Cancer Genome Atlas database revealed that the expression level of SEMA4G was significantly lower in colorectal cancer and lung cancer tissues than that in adjacent non-tumour tissues, while the expression level of SEMA4G was significantly higher in gastric cancer tissues than that in adjacent non-tumour tissues. These findings provide evidence that the miR-608 rs4919510 polymorphism may modify cancer susceptibility in a type-specific manner. Furthermore, SEMA4G may function as an oncogene or tumour suppressor to regulate tumour development in a type-specific manner. Further studies with experimental evaluations are warranted.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: HIV-related stigma always is major obstacles to an effective HIV response worldwide. The effect of HIV-related stigma on HIV prevention and treatment is particularly serious in China. This study was to examine stigma attitude towards people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) among general individuals in Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China and the factors associated with stigma attitude, including socio-demographic factors and HIV/AIDS Knowledge. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was carried out in Heilongjiang Province, China. A total of 4050 general individuals with age 15-69 years in four villages in rural areas and two communities in urban areas were drawn using stratified cluster sampling. Standardized questionnaire interviews were administered. Univariate and multivariate log-binomial regression were performed to assess factors affecting stigma attitude towards PLWHA. RESULTS: The proportions of participants holding stigma attitude towards PLWHA were 49.6% among rural respondents and 37.0% among urban respondents (P < 0.001). Multivariate log binomial regression analysis among both rural participants (RR = 0.89, 95% CI: 0.87-0.91, P < 0.001) and urban participants (RR = 0.89, 95% CI: 0.87-0.91, P < 0.001) showed that greater knowledge of HIV transmission misconceptions was significantly associated with lower stigma attitude towards people living with HIV. And among urban participants, higher education level (high school vs. primary school or less: RR = 0.73, 95%CI: 0.62-0.87, P < 0.001; middle school vs. primary school or less: RR = 0.83, 95%CI: 0.71-0.97, P = 0.018) were also significantly associated with lower stigma attitude towards PLWHA. CONCLUSIONS: The level of stigma attitude towards PLWHA is higher in rural areas than in urban areas in Heilongjiang. Meanwhile, individuals who better were aware of HIV/AIDS transmission misconceptions may hold lower stigma attitude toward PLWHA whether among rural or urban residents.
