RESUMO

With the magnetron-sputtering deposition method, α phase indium selenide (α-In2Se3) was developed into a saturable absorber (SA) with wideband saturable absorption property at 800, 1560, and 1930 nm. After inserting the α-In2Se3 SA into erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) and thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) systems, we can easily obtain stable soliton pulse trains. The pulse duration/pulse energy/slope efficiency for EDFL and TDFL were 276 fs/2.03 nJ/15.8% and 1.02 ps/7.1 nJ/23.5%, respectively. These results showed that the MSD-grown α-In2Se3 could be regarded as high efficiency material to be applied in ultrafast photonics.

RESUMO

A passively mode-locked thulium-doped fiber (TDF) laser was realized by employing chemical vapor deposited few-layer molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2) as a saturable absorber (SA). The few-layer MoTe2 film was transferred onto the waist of a microfiber and then incorporated into a TDF laser with a typical all-fiber ring cavity configuration. Stable soliton pulses emitting at 1930.22 nm were obtained with a 3 dB bandwidth of 4.45 nm, a pulse duration of 952 fs, and an average power of 36.7 mW.

RESUMO

We synthesize lipophilic, highly efficient, and pH-insensitive oleic acid-modified quantum dots (QDs) with maximum emission at a wavelength of 628 nm. The pH sensing film is fabricated by encapsulating 5-hexadecanoylamino-fluorescein and QDs as the reference in D4-hydromed and plasticized polystyrene. Using a light-emitting diode with a central wavelength of 410 nm as an excitation source, it is shown that the emission wavelengths of the pH sensitive indicator and reference dye have no spectral overlap and match respectively the channels of a 3CCD (RGB) camera with low cross-talk. A series of validation experiments shows that this ratiometric pH optode has good properties of high sensitivity, long-term stability, and photostability. It had a fast response time of <20 s when going from pH 6.3 to pH 8.0. The pH images suggest that the proposed ratiometric pH-sensing approach has great advantage and promise for field applications.

RESUMO

Ultrafast pulse generation was demonstrated in a thulium-doped fiber laser mode-locked by magnetron-sputtering deposited WTe2 with a modulation depth, a nonsaturable loss, and a saturable intensity of 31%, 34.3%, and 7.6 MW/cm2, respectively. Stable soliton pulses could be obtained at a 1915.5 nm central wavelength with a pulse duration of 1.25 ps, an average output power of 39.9 mW, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 95 dB. To the best of our knowledge, this was the first demonstration of WTe2-based saturable absorbers in fiber lasers at a 2 µm regime.

RESUMO

In this Letter, high-quality WS2 film and MoS2 film were vertically stacked on the tip of a single-mode fiber in turns to form heterostructure (WS2-MoS2-WS2)-based saturable absorbers with all-fiber integrated features. Their nonlinear saturable absorption properties were remarkable, such as a large modulation depth (∼16.99%) and a small saturable intensity (6.23 MW·cm-2). Stable pulses at 1.55 µm with duration as short as 296 fs and average power as high as 25 mW were obtained in an erbium-doped fiber laser system. The results demonstrate that the proposed heterostructures own remarkable nonlinear optical properties and offer a platform for adjusting nonlinear optical properties by stacking different transition-metal dichalcogenides or modifying the thickness of each layer, paving the way for engineering functional ultrafast photonics devices with desirable properties.

RESUMO

This paper presents a simple, high resolution imaging approach utilizing ratiometric planar optode for simultaneous measurement of dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH. The planar optode comprises a plastic optical film coated with oxygen indicator Platinum(II) octaethylporphyrin (PtOEP) and reference quantum dots (QDs) embedded in polystyrene (PS), pH indicator 5-Hexadecanoylamino-fluorescein (5-Fluorescein) embedded in Hydromed D4 matrix. The indicator and reference dyes are excited by utilizing an LED (Light Emitting Diode) source with a central wavelength of 405 nm, the emission respectively matches the different channels (red, green, and blue) of a 3CCD camera after eliminating the excitation source by utilizing the color filter. The result shows that there is low cross-sensitivity between the two analytes dissolved oxygen and pH, and it shows good performance in the dynamic response ranges of 0-12 mg/L and a dynamic range of pH 6-8. The optode has been tested with regard to the response times, accuracy, photostability and stability. The applied experiment for detecting pH/Oxygen of sea-water under the influence of the rain drops is demonstrated. It is shown that the planar optode measuring system provides a simple method with low cross-talk for pH/Oxygen imaging in aqueous applications.

RESUMO

A ratiometric optical sensor has been developed with electrospinning processing method for dissolved oxygen measurement. The sensing film is fabricated by using silver nano-particles (Ag NPs) doped with tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) ruthenium(II) dichloride complex (Ru(DPP)3Cl2) encapsulated in plasticized polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). An insensitive 3-(2-benzothiazolyl)-7-(diethy lamino)-(6CI,7CI) (Coumarin6) is adopted as reference. The ratio of oxygenation is calculated at each image pixel of a 3CCD camera to quantify the oxygen concentration in aqueous environment. Compared to Ag-free film, the response time of Ag-containing films were improved from 1.5 s to 1.0 s upon switching from deoxygenated to air saturation and from 65 s to 45 s from air saturation to fully deoxygenated. The response times of the Ag-free film obtained by knifing was 2.0 s upon switching from deoxygenated to air saturation and 104 s from air saturation to fully deoxygenated. Results of the evaluation of accuracy, limit of detection, stability, and photostability are presented. An experiment measuring the spatiotemporal variation of oxygen distribution within the photosynthesis and respiration of Chlorella vulgaris is demonstrated. It is shown that the nanofiber-based optical sensor film could serve as a promising method for rapid oxygen monitoring in aqueous applications.

RESUMO

This study demonstrates that a luminescent Tb3+ complex with green emission can be complexed with hyaluronic (hya) to form nanoparticles. The structure of complexation is composed of a Tb(acac)2phen core with a hya surface, similar to those of the nano-poached eggs. What makes the structure unique is that Tb(acac)2phen and hya are connected by chemical bonds. To confirm their utility, we illustrate that the luminescence is rapidly and selectively quenched in the presence of Fe3+. Initial cytotoxicity experiments with human liver carcinoma cells show that the luminescent lanthanide complexes are cytotoxic, however, complexing lanthanides to hya renders them cytocompatible. The new complex integrates the advantages of superior lanthanide luminescence, the unique shape of nano-poached eggs, compatibility with aqueous systems, and cytocompatibility. Tb3+-induced hyaluronic nano-poached eggs (THNE) can, therefore, be used for Fe3+ detection in aqueous systems.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted significant interest in various optoelectronic applications due to their excellent nonlinear optical properties. One of the most important applications of TMDs is to be employed as an extraordinary optical modulation material (e.g., the saturable absorber (SA)) in ultrafast photonics. The main challenge arises while embedding TMDs into fiber laser systems to generate ultrafast pulse trains and thus constraints their practical applications. Herein, few-layered WS2 with a large-area was directly transferred on the facet of the pigtail and acted as a SA for erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) systems. In our study, WS2 SA exhibited remarkable nonlinear optical properties (e.g., modulation depth of 15.1% and saturable intensity of 157.6 MW cm-2) and was used for ultrafast pulse generation. The soliton pulses with remarkable performances (e.g., ultrashort pulse duration of 1.49 ps, high stability of 71.8 dB, and large pulse average output power of 62.5 mW) could be obtained in a telecommunication band. To the best of our knowledge, the average output power of the mode-locked pulse trains is the highest by employing TMD materials in fiber laser systems. These results indicate that atomically large-area WS2 could be used as excellent optical modulation materials in ultrafast photonics.
