RESUMO

We are presenting magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) findings of a known case of hydatid cyst operated twice in the past. A 22-years-old male patient had presented with recurrent symptoms of generalized seizures and raised intracranial tension. MRI with MRS of the lesion was performed that showed a recurrent loculated cystic lesion in right parieto-occipital lobe. MRS through the lesion was performed using repetition time (TR) of 1500 ms and time to echo (TE) of 135 ms using 2 x 2 x 2 cm voxel, from the margin of the lesion. MRS showed mildly elevated choline (Cho), depressed creatine (Cr) and N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), a large peak of lactate, pyruvate and acetate peaks.

RESUMO

Objective. (1)H MR spectroscopy (MRS) is widely performed for assessment of brain tumours and is considered a highly sensitive technique capable of differentiating benign from malignant conditions and tumour grading. Method. We present a case of a 69 year old woman who was suspected to have gliomatosis on MRI. Results. MRS performed using single voxel and chemical shift/multivoxel techniques was within normal limits. A repeat scan 6 months later showed progressive disease, and biopsy was performed that proved the diagnosis of glioblastoma. Conclusion. Normal MRS in a patient with suspicion of gliomatosis on MRI should not reassure clinicians into assuming a benign aetiology or a good prognosis in short term.

RESUMO

CASE REPORT: We report a case of ganglioglioma of the optic chiasma in an 8-year-old child who presented with gradual deterioration of vision since the age of 3 years and complete loss by 8 years. REVIEW OF LITERATURE: Intensive literature search by the authors showed only 12 cases of ganglioglioma involving the visual pathway reported so far. Report on our case is presented here along with review of literature.
