RESUMO

This study describes the design of a flexible narrowband organic photodiode (OPDs) with a novel structure. A bulk heterojunction of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl-C70-butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM) is introduced as a photoactive layer, with an optimized thickness of 160 nm, and a MoO3/Ag/MoO3 (MAM) multilayer electrode and polyimide (PI) film substrate were used. The OPD with the device architecture of PI/MAM/P3HT:PC70BM/Al showed narrowband photodiode performance in the 500-650 nm wavelength range. The maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the OPD was 15.41% at 570 nm, which dropped to ∼0% outside the operation wavelength range. This narrowband detectivity originated from the cutoff of light at wavelengths below 500 nm by the PI substrate and photoreactivity of P3HT:PC70BM at wavelengths between 300 and 650 nm. Outer bending tests performed over 1000 cycles revealed that the average maximum EQE remained at ∼15%. The maximum responsivity of the OPD was calculated to be 0.07 A W-1 at 570 nm. The OPD device showed a narrow response spectrum with a full width at half maximum of 100 nm. This research suggests a new approach for the fabrication of flexible OPDs with high selectivity in color detection.

RESUMO

We report a facile and efficient method for the fabrication of highly-flexible field emission devices by forming tubular hybrid structures based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and nickel nanotubes (Ni NTs) on graphene-based flexible substrates. By employing an infiltration process in anodic alumina oxide (AAO) templates followed by Ni electrodeposition, we could fabricate CNT-wrapped Ni NT/graphene hybrid structures. During the electrodeposition process, the CNTs served as Ni nucleation sites, resulting in a large-area array of high aspect-ratio field emitters composed of CNT-wrapped Ni NT hybrid structures. As a proof of concepts, we demonstrate that high-quality flexible field emission devices can be simply fabricated using our method. Remarkably, our proto-type field emission devices exhibited a current density higher by two orders of magnitude compared to other devices fabricated by previous methods, while maintaining its structural integrity in various bending deformations. This novel fabrication strategy can be utilized in various applications such as optoelectronic devices, sensors and energy storage devices.

RESUMO

Careful examination of nucleophilicity, basicity, and leaving group ability led us to discover the nucleophilic fluorination of triflates by weakly basic tetrabutylammonium bifluoride, which provides excellent yields with minimal formation of elimination-derived side products. Primary hydroxyl groups as well as secondary hydroxyl groups in acyclic chains or in five-membered rings are excellent substrates, whereas benzylic and aldol-type secondary hydroxyl groups give poor yields as a result of the instability of their triflates.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Argon plasma coagulation (APC) has some merits in the treatment of gastric neoplasms including a shorter operative time and fewer complications compared with endoscopic mucosal resection or endoscopic submucosal dissection. However, there are few reports on the outcomes of gastric neoplasms treated using APC. The aim of this study was to evaluate APC in the treatment of early gastric neoplasms in terms of clinical efficacy, safety, and local recurrence. METHODS: We enrolled 28 patients who received APC therapy at the Kyungpook National University Hospital between May 2007 and April 2013. Clinical outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS: The median follow-up period was 24.8 months (range, 2 to 78). Among the 28 lesions treated using the APC procedure, tumor recurrence was encountered in seven lesions (25.0%). Recurrence was found in 50% (5/10) of single APC cases and 11% (2/18) of rescue APC cases. The mean time to recurrence was 16.1 months (range, 2 to 78). There were no serious APC-related complications such as perforation, bleeding, or infection. CONCLUSIONS: APC therapy can be a useful treatment with a favorable safety profile for patients with early gastric neoplasms. However, further studies are necessary to determine the long-term prognosis of patients undergoing this treatment.

RESUMO

Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by hundreds of colorectal adenomatous polyps that progress to colorectal cancer. Management of patients with FAP is with a total colectomy. Chemopreventive strategies have been studied in FAP patients in an effort to delay the development of adenomas in the upper and the lower gastrointestinal tract and to prevent recurrence of adenomas in the retained rectum of patients after prophylactic surgery. Sulindac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, causes regression of colorectal adenomas in the retained rectal segment of FAP patients. However, evidence regarding long-term use of this therapy and its effect on the intact colon has been insufficient. We report a case in which the long-term use of sulindac was effective in reducing the size and the number of colonic polyps in patients with FAP without a prophylactic colectomy and polypectomy; we also present a review of the literature.
