It is shown that the amount of ATP in rats under hypothermia up to heat stroke lowers and that of ADP and AMP somewhat rises. Ionol administration normalizes the ATP level and increases the ADP and AMP contents. Inhalation of CO2 and especially administration of ionol contribute to a higher resistance of the animals to hyperthermia.

The content of sulphydryl and amine groups in water- and salt- soluble proteins of different areas of the rat brain was studied as affected by acute and chronic alcohol intoxication. With a relatively unchanged content of sulphydryl groups, noticeable variations are observed in the level of amine groups, most pronounced in proteins of the intermediate and middle areas of the brain. Under chronic intoxication the greatest changes in the content of the functional groups occur on the fourth day after cessation of the alcohol administration, when changes in the clinical state of the animals are most pronounced. It is supposed that the found shifts are caused by an acetaldehyde reversible blockade of amino groups and by the conformation rearrangement of protein molecules.

Acute brain injury was simulated in rat experiments. Great changes were revealed in carbohydrate and energy metabolism over the course of the posttraumatic period. The changes are the most pronounced 1 day after injury and they showed deep energy deficiency in brain tissue and precede the development of and greatly contribute to the pathogenesis of many posttraumatic disorders, including brain edema-swelling.

[Improved method for the quantitative determination of lipid hydroperoxides and the change in their content in the tissues on exposure of the body to a high external temperature]. / Usovershenstvovannyi metod kolichestvennogo opredeleniia gidroperekisei lipidov, izmenenie ikh soderzhaniia v tkaniakh pri vozdeistvii na organizm vysokoi vneshnei temperatury.

A new procedure is developed for amperometric registration of the equivalence point in iodometric assay of lipid hydroperoxides. The procedure increased accuracy of the analysis. Content of lipid hydroperoxides was calculated by means of a new equation. Concentration of lipid hydroperoxides was studied using the new method both in tissues and blood of intact animals and in those of animals, which were subjected to the effect of high external temperature.

A body overheating was accompanied by alterations in erythrocyte resistancy to peroxidation, in activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione reductase, which depended on the rate of overheating.

[Status of bioenergetic processes in brain of immature rats during the dynamics of cranio-cerebral trauma]. / Sostoianie protsessov bioénergetiki v golovnom mozge nepolovozrelykh krys v dinamike cherepno-mozgovoi travmy.

In one month's old rats open cranio-cerebral injury was modelled. During the post-traumatic period the state of bioenergetic processes in brain tissues was studied in dynamics. Disturbance of oxidative phosphorylation in cerebral mitochondria and depression of membranes ATPase activity was revealed. This changes were most expressed in 1-4 days after the injury. Recovery of the impaired bioenergetic processes in post-traumatic period in one month's old rats is slower than in adult.

[Effectiveness of synthetic antioxidants in treatment of patients with peptic ulcer (an open randomized controlled trial)]. / Izuchenie éffektivnosti sinteticheskikh antioksidantov v lechenii bol'nykh iazvennoi bolezn'iu (otkrytoe kontrolirovannoe randomizirovannoe issledovanie).

Two randomized groups of ulcer patients were compared. 102 patients of group 1 were treated with synthetic antioxidants (dibunol, probucol, emoxipine), while 100 patients of group 2 received a conventional treatment. Treatment results in group 1 appeared better: shortening of ulcer scarring, higher percentage of ulcer healing for 2 and 4 weeks, fall in the number of relapses during the first year of the follow-up, improvement in lipid peroxidation and antioxidant activity.

Development of thermal stroke in rats with the action of high external temperature (45 degrees C) was accompanied by a reduction of accumulation of I131 in the thyroid gland, a fall in the protein-bound-iodine--I131 and in the amount of thyroxin in the peripheral blood plasma, and also by a fall in the rate of disappearance from the blood of Nal131 injected intravenously. A relative decrease of the content of mono- and particularly of diiodthyrosines, and also, slightly, of iodthyronines occurred in the trypsine hydrolyzates of the thyroid gland at the moment of the thermal stroke development.

A study was made of the influence of preliminary long-term heating on the state of the antioxidant system of erythrocytes after gamma-irradiation. The activity of antioxidant protection enzymes (catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase) in erythrocytes varied in different directions depending on the preliminary long-term overheating schedule and perhaps on the structure and intracellular localization of the enzyme.

Three hours after irradiation in a dose of 800 R rats proved to be less resistant to following overheating (45 degrees C) than control animals. An increase of resistance to acute overheating was revealed at the end of 3 days after the irradiation. At the height of the radiation disease (the end of the 5th day) the period of occurrence of heat stroke and the duration of rat survival failed to differ from those in the control animals. The dynamics of response to overheating correlated to some extent with that of the thyroid gland and the adrenal gland functions in the irradiated animals.

The experiments were carried out on 60 first generation hybrids. Acute systemic "graft-versus-host" reaction (GVHR) was induced in (CBA X C57B1/6) X 60 X 10(6) hybrids by intravenous administration of spleen cells from C57B1/6 parents. Thyroid glands were examined on the 3rd, 10th and 24th days of GVHR. Chronic GVHR was studied in accordance with routine model. (C57B1/6 X DBA/2) hybrids were given 50 X 10(6) spleen cells from DBA/2 parents. Thyroid glands were investigated 6 months after GVHR induction. On the 10th day of GVHR histological examination revealed that follicular-like adenoma tumours with pronounced cellular abnormalities tended to appear in thyroid gland. In a chronic form of GVHR the histological pattern corresponds to that of follicular cancer.

Experimental trials of the extraction photometry of the urine mercury have shown that this method is not sensitive enough to detect the mercury concentrations in human urine in health. Even if the mercury concentrations are detectable with this method, the results are unrepeatable because of the inadequacy of the extraction technique. This makes extraction photometry unacceptable for measuring the urine mercury concentrations at clinical laboratories.

The article presents a set of newly elaborated specific techniques of the indication of protective pastes and ointments penetrability into the sealants. The techniques are based on the sealant's colour reactions to iron chloride spirits solution. It was established that skin protecting silicone creams, EIR-1 and HIOT pastes were sealant resistant for 4-6 minutes only. Medicinal vaseline displayed its protection properties for 6 hours, thus demonstrating its greater effectiveness when used in industrial conditions.
