SignificanceSurface engineering of halide perovskites (HaPs), semiconductors with amazing optoelectronic properties, is critical to improve the performance and ambient stability of HaP-based solar cells and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Ultrathin layers of two-dimensional (2D) analogs of the three-dimensional (3D) HaPs are particularly attractive for this because of their chemical similarities but higher ambient stability. But do such 2D/3D interfaces actually last, given that ions in HaPs move readily-i.e., what happens at those interfaces on the atomic scale? A special electron microscopy, which as a bonus also reveals the true conditions for nondestructive analysis, shows that the large ions that are a necessary part of the 2D films can move into the 3D HaP, a fascinating illustration of panta rei in HaPs.

Ophthalmoplegic migraine (OM), first described by Charcot in 1870, is a disorder characterised by recurrent episodes of migraine associated with ophthalmoplegia. It has been extensively described in children and is rarer in adults. Commonly, the third nerve is affected with pupillary involvement and, more rarely, the fourth or the sixth nerve. OM is now believed to be an inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy. However, in the largest series of OM so far, by Lal et al. it most commonly involved the sixth nerve, started with a crescendo migraine and was accompanied by no enhancement of the cranial nerves. This has led to a rethink about the role of migraine, in the pathogenesis of OM. We describe a 14-year-old boy, with a 10-year history of intermittent headache followed by drooping of right eyelid and diplopia. The current episode started with a migrainous headache, which increased in severity over 3 days, followed by right third nerve paresis with pupillary involvement. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain with contrast showed nodular thickening at the root entry zone of the right oculomotor nerve with bright enhancement. The child responded to oral prednisolone, which was tapered over a month. Migraine prophylaxis with propranolol was concurrently added. His repeat MRI brain showed complete disappearance of enhancement of the lesion at 1 year.

BACKGROUND: Labeo rohita is the most preferred freshwater carp species in India. The concern of increasing salinity concentration in freshwater bodies due to climate change may greatly impact the aquatic environment. Gills are one of the important osmoregulatory organs and have direct contact with external environment. Hence, the current study is conducted to understand the gill transcriptomic response of L. rohita under hypersalinity environment. RESULTS: Comprehensive analysis of differentially expressed long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), microRNAs (miRNAs) and mRNAs was performed in gills of L. rohita treated with 2, 4, 6 and 8ppt salinity concentrations. Networks of lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA revealed involvement of 20, 33, 52 and 61 differentially expressed lncRNAs, 11, 13, 26 and 21 differentially expressed miRNAs in 2, 4, 6 and 8ppt groups between control and treatment respectively. These lncRNA-miRNA pairs were regulating 87, 214, 499 and 435 differentially expressed mRNAs (DE mRNAs) in 2, 4, 6 and 8ppt treatments respectively. Functional analysis of these genes showed enrichment in pathways related to ion transportation and osmolyte production to cope with induced osmotic pressure due to high salt concentration. Pathways related to signal transduction (MAPK, FOXO and phosphatidylinositol signaling), and environmental information processing were also upregulated under hypersalinity. Energy metabolism and innate immune response pathways also appear to be regulated. Protein turnover was high at 8ppt as evidenced by enrichment of the proteasome and aminoacyl tRNA synthesis pathways, along with other enriched KEGG terms such as apoptosis, cellular senescence and cell cycle. CONCLUSION: Altogether, the RNA-seq analysis provided valuable insights into competitive endogenous (lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA) regulatory network of L. rohita under salinity stress. L. rohita is adapting to the salinity stress by means of upregulating protein turnover, osmolyte production and removing the damaged cells using apoptotic pathway and regulating the cell growth and hence diverting the essential energy for coping with salinity stress.

Morphotypic differentiation is the external manifestation of dominance hierarchy in Macrobrachium rosenbergii The intermediate morphotype orange claw (OC) male exhibits the highest growth rate and is subordinate in hierarchy to blue claw (BC) male while dominant on small male (SM). The present study was undertaken to examine the specific role of insulin-like androgenic gland (iag) hormone in morphotype differentiation of M. rosenbergii To achieve this, RNAi mediated knockdown as well as augmentation of iag transcripts were effected in ∼60 g OC males using plasmid-based constructs pcD-IAG-lh and pcD-IAGorf, respectively. The treatments were administered to animals maintained in isolation as well as in community. The knockdown plasmid construct that expresses iag-specific long hairpin RNA caused 16-fold reduction of iag transcripts in the SSN1 cell line in vitro When injected into OC males living in a community, 2.3-fold iag knockdown was recorded, while in isolated OC males it was 4.2-fold initially, but returned to normal subsequently. Compared with the respective controls, OC to BC transformations in the iag silenced animals were significantly lower in the community-reared group, while no difference was observed in the isolated animals. It is reported here for the first time that iag augmentation in OC males resulted in significantly higher OC to BC transformations, when animals were reared in community. This plasmid-based IAG knockdown approach could be developed into a low stress, feed or immersion treatment for controlling heterogeneous individual growth of M. rosenbergii males in aquaculture.

The present investigation aimed to explore the level of genetic diversity, determine the population structure in a larger set of germplasm of linseed using microsatellite marker and identify linked markers through association mapping. A total of 168 accessions of linseed were evaluated for major agro-economic traits and SSRs markers deployed for diversity assessment. A total of 337 alleles were amplified by 50 SSRs ranging from 2 to 13 with an average of 6.74 ± 2.8 alleles per loci. The neighbor joining based clustering grouped all the accessions into three major clusters that were also confirmed by scatter plot of PCoA. While model based clustering determined four sub-populations (K = 4). Further, analysis of molecular variance analysis considering three population showed that maximum variation (79%) was within the population. We identified one putative SSR marker (Lu_3043) linked with days to 50% flowering through both GLM and MLM analysis of association mapping. The results of this preliminary study revealed genetic diversity, population structure in linseed and linked marker which could be utilized in future breeding program.

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SICH) is the emerging cause of orthostatic headache as it has been better recognized in recent years. SICH happens due to spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak; however, the manifestations are predominantly cranial and hence imaging in SICH includes brain and spine. There are few characteristic brain imaging features to be concerned about to diagnose SICH in patients with vague symptoms or low clinical suspicion. Spine screening is recommended in these patients to assess spinal CSF leaks. While neuroradiologists play a significant role from the time of diagnosis to treatment of SICH, there is a need for all the general radiologists to be aware of the condition. Computed tomography myelogram and digital subtraction myelogram are performed for diagnostic and therapeutic management of SICH. There is a known risk for SICH recurrence in patients with sagittal longitudinal epidural collection and hence, targeted blood patch should be used instead of blind patch. Most importantly, slow mobilization is recommended following the patch to avoid recurrence.

The optimum utilisation of explosive energy in the rock blasting operation is a prime challenge for the blast designers. The explosive energy in this operation is used for movement of burden. The optimum fracturing of the rock mass to meet the production demand takes place along tension. In the process of blasting, the detonation pressure of the explosives in the blasthole induces shock wave to the rock mass. The propagating shock wave is initially compressive in nature and becomes tensile after being reflected from the free face. The extent of tensile damage zone would give the optimum burden for blasting. The explosive properties along with the rock mass properties and charge configuration influences the extent of tensile damage zone. In this study, an empirical relation has been developed for estimation of blast induced tensile damage zone. The experimental trials were conducted at a coal mine using two different types of explosives for the validation of the developed empirical relation. The ground vibration predictors were developed using the data of experimental trials. The induced damage zone was computed using empirical relation proposed by Forsyth (1993) and developed ground vibration predictors. The estimated damage zone using developed empirical predictor and Forsyth relation were compared. The difference in the induced damage zone using two approaches is within 10%. The predicted values using developed empirical relation are accurate with RMSE value of 0.227 m. Hence, the developed empirical relation would be beneficial for estimation of blast induced crack zone.

Aquaculture has witnessed an excellent growth rate during the last two decades and offers huge potential to provide nutritional as well as livelihood security. Genomic research has contributed significantly toward the development of beneficial technologies for aquaculture. The existing high throughput technologies like next-generation technologies generate oceanic data which requires extensive analysis using appropriate tools. Bioinformatics is a rapidly evolving science that involves integrating gene based information and computational technology to produce new knowledge for the benefit of aquaculture. Bioinformatics provides new opportunities as well as challenges for information and data processing in new generation aquaculture. Rapid technical advancements have opened up a world of possibilities for using current genomics to improve aquaculture performance. Understanding the genes that govern economically relevant characteristics, necessitates a significant amount of additional research. The various dimensions of data sources includes next-generation DNA sequencing, protein sequencing, RNA sequencing gene expression profiles, metabolic pathways, molecular markers, and so on. Appropriate bioinformatics tools are developed to mine the biologically relevant and commercially useful results. The purpose of this scoping review is to present various arms of diverse bioinformatics tools with special emphasis on practical translation to the aquaculture industry.

Two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskites, HaPs, can provide chemical stability to three-dimensional (3D) HaP surfaces, protecting them from exposure to ambient species and from reacting with contacting layers. Both actions occur with 2D HaPs, with the general stoichiometry R2PbI4 (R: long or bulky organic amine) covering the 3D ones. Adding such covering films can also boost power conversion efficiencies of photovoltaic cells by passivating surface/interface trap states. For maximum benefit, we need conformal ultrathin and phase-pure (n = 1) 2D layers to enable efficient tunneling of photogenerated charge carriers through the 2D film barrier. Conformal coverage of ultrathin (<10 nm) R2PbI4 layers on 3D perovskites is challenging with spin coating; even more so is its upscaling for larger-area devices. We report on vapor-phase cation exchange of the 3D surface with the R2PbI4 molecules and real-time in situ growth monitoring by photoluminescence (PL) to determine limits for forming ultrathin 2D layers. We characterize the 2D growth stages, following the changing PL intensity-time profiles, by combining structural, optical, morphological, and compositional characterizations. Moreover, from quantitative X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis on 2D/3D bilayer films, we estimate the smallest width of a 2D cover that we can grow to be <5 nm, roughly the limit for efficient tunneling through a (semi)conjugated organic barrier. We also find that, besides protecting the 3D against ambient humidity-induced degradation, the ultrathin 2D-on-3D film also aids self-repair following photodamage.

Introduction: Brain being the master regulator of the physiology of animal, the current study focuses on the gene expression pattern of the brain tissue with special emphasis on regulation of growth, developmental process of an organism and cellular adaptation of Labeo rohita against unfavourable environmental conditions. Methods: RNA-seq study was performed on collected brain samples at 8ppt salt concentration and analyzed for differential gene expression, functional annotation and miRNA-mRNA regulatory network. Results: We found that 2450 genes were having significant differential up and down regulation. The study identified 20 hub genes based on maximal clique centrality algorithm. These hub genes were mainly involved in various signaling pathways, energy metabolism and ion transportation. Further, 326 up and 1214 down regulated genes were found to be targeted by 7 differentially expressed miRNAs i.e., oni-miR-10712, oni-miR-10736, ssa-miR-221-3p, ssa-miR-130d-1-5p, ssa-miR-144-5p and oni-miR-10628. Gene ontology analysis of these differentially expressed genes led to the finding that these genes were involved in signal transduction i.e., calcium, FOXO, PI3K-AKT, TGF-ß, Wnt and p53 signalling pathways. Differentially expressed genes were also involved in regulation of immune response, environmental adaptation i.e., neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, ECM-receptor interaction, cell adhesion molecules and circadian entrainment, osmoregulation and energy metabolism, which are critical for salinity adaptation. Discussion: The findings of whole transcriptomic study on brain deciphered the miRNA-mRNA interaction patterns and pathways associated with salinity adaptation of L. rohita.

Climate change has resulted in extreme temperature and drought around the globe, which poses serious threat to food security. Both heat and drought stress affects the production and productivity of wheat crop. The present study was undertaken to evaluate 34 landraces and elite cultivars of Triticum spp. for phenological and yield-related traits under optimum, heat, and combined heat-drought stress environments during 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. The pooled analysis of variance showed significant genotype × environment interaction, suggesting an influence of stress on trait expression. The trait performance of genotypes exhibited significant reduction under combined heat-drought stress as compared to optimum and heat stress environments. The maximum seed yield penalty was observed under combined heat-drought stress environment as compared to heat stress alone. Regression analysis indicated significant contribution of number of grains per spike towards stress tolerance. Based on Stress Tolerance Index (STI), genotypes Local-17, PDW 274, HI-8802, and HI-8713 were identified to be tolerant to both heat and combined heat and drought stress at Banda, whereas genotypes DBW 187, HI-8777, Raj 4120, and PDW 274 were tolerant at Jhansi location. The genotype PDW 274 showed stress tolerance under all treatments at both the locations. The genotypes PDW 233 and PDW 291 showed highest stress susceptibility index (SSI) across the environments. The number of grains per spike and test kernel weight were positively associated with seed yield across the environments and locations. The selected genotypes Local-17, HI 8802, and PDW 274 were identified to be the potential sources of heat and combined heat-drought tolerance, which may be utilized in hybridization to develop tolerant wheat genotypes and also for mapping of underlying genes/quantitative trait loci (QTLs).

Twenty patients underwent 25 basal medial opening wedge osteotomies of the first metatarsal stabilized using a low-profile wedge plate in combination with a distal soft tissue release, distal metatarsal osteotomy and Akin osteotomy as required for correction of a hallux valgus deformity. The mean clinical and radiographic follow-up was 12.2 months. Pre- and post operative radiographs available in 15 cases showed that the median hallux valgus angle (HVA), intermetatarsal angle (IMA) and distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA) were corrected from 45.5 to 13.1, 17.7 to 9.2 and 243 to 10.0 degrees respectively (p < 0.001). Final radiographic assessment for the whole series showed a median final HVA and IMA of 14.1 and 9.1 respectively. Radiographic union was noted in all but one case which was asymptomatic. One wound infection was treated with oral antibiotics, one hallux varus deformity required soft tissue reconstruction and there was one recurrence. The outcome was reported as good or satisfactory by the patients for 20 of 25 feet. Three patients reported stiffness in the first MTP joint, which improved with joint injection and manipulation. Two plates were removed for prominence. The basal medial opening wedge osteotomy stabilized with a low profile wedge plate was an effective addition for correcting a moderate to severe hallux valgus deformity as part of a double or triple first ray osteotomy.

The interfaces between inorganic selective contacts and halide perovskites (HaPs) are possibly the greatest challenge for making stable and reproducible solar cells with these materials. NiOx, an attractive hole-transport layer as it fits the electronic structure of HaPs, is highly stable and can be produced at a low cost. Furthermore, NiOx can be fabricated via scalable and controlled physical deposition methods such as RF sputtering to facilitate the quest for scalable, solvent-free, vacuum-deposited HaP-based solar cells (PSCs). However, the interface between NiOx and HaPs is still not well-controlled, which leads at times to a lack of stability and Voc losses. Here, we use RF sputtering to fabricate NiOx and then cover it with a NiyN layer without breaking vacuum. The NiyN layer protects NiOx doubly during PSC production. Firstly, the NiyN layer protects NiOx from Ni3+ species being reduced to Ni2+ by Ar plasma, thus maintaining NiOx conductivity. Secondly, it passivates the interface between NiOx and the HaPs, retaining PSC stability over time. This double effect improves PSC efficiency from an average of 16.5% with a 17.4% record cell to a 19% average with a 19.8% record cell and increases the device stability.

The increasing salinization of freshwater resources, owing to global warming, has caused concern to freshwater aquaculturists. In this regard, the present study is aimed at economically important freshwater fish, L. rohita (rohu) adapting to varying degrees of salinity concentrations. The RNA-seq analysis of kidney tissue samples of L. rohita maintained at 2, 4, 6, and 8 ppt salinity was performed, and differentially expressed genes involved in various pathways were studied. A total of 755, 834, 738, and 716 transcripts were downregulated and 660, 926, 576, and 908 transcripts were up-regulated in 2, 4, 6, and 8 ppt salinity treatment groups, respectively, with reference to the control. Gene ontology enrichment analysis categorized the differentially expressed genes into 69, 154, 92, and 157 numbers of biological processes with the p value < 0.05 for 2, 4, 6, and 8 ppt salinity groups, respectively, based on gene functions. The present study found 26 differentially expressed solute carrier family genes involved in ion transportation and glucose transportation which play a significant role in osmoregulation. In addition, the upregulation of inositol-3-phosphate synthase 1A (INO1) enzyme indicated the role of osmolytes in salinity acclimatization of L. rohita. Apart from this, the study has also found a significant number of genes involved in the pathways related to salinity adaptation including energy metabolism, calcium ion regulation, immune response, structural reorganization, and apoptosis. The kidney transcriptome analysis elucidates a step forward in understanding the osmoregulatory process in L. rohita and their adaptation to salinity changes.

Background: The emerging viral pandemic worldwide is associated with a novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). This virus is said to emerge from its epidemic center in Wuhan, China, in 2019. Coronaviruses (CoVs) are single-stranded, giant, enveloped RNA viruses that come under the family of coronaviridae and order Nidovirales which are the crucial pathogens for humans and other vertebrates. Main body: Coronaviruses are divided into several subfamilies and genera based on the genomic structure and phylogenetic relationship. The name corona is raised due to the presence of spike protein on the envelope of the virus. The structural and genomic study revealed that the total genome size of SARS-CoV-2 is from 29.8 kb to 29.9 kb. The spike protein (S) is a glycoprotein that attaches to the receptor of host cells for entry into the host cell, followed by the attachment of virus RNA to the host ribosome for translation. The phylogenetic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 revealed the similarity (75-88%) with bat SARS-like coronavirus. Conclusion: The sign and symptoms of novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 are also discussed in this paper. The worldwide outbreak and prevention from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 are overviewed in the present article. The latest variant of coronavirus and the status of vaccines are also overviewed in the present article.

Epileptic auras provide the initial clues to identify the probable region of ictal onset. In temporal lobe epilepsies, auras are most commonly experiential or viscerosensory, when they arise from mesial structures. Whereas sensations such as vertigo and auditory hallucinations are more likely to occur from the lateral temporal lobe structures. Auditory auras have been described from the lateral temporal neocortex, Heschl's gyri, frontal operculum and posterior insula. We herein describe a patient with temporal lobe epilepsy with an auditory aura who was localized to have the onset of seizures from the hippocampus using stereotactic EEG (SEEG). Stimulation of the hippocampal contacts also reproduced the habitual auditory aura. Anterior temporal lobectomy with amygdalohippocampectomy resulted in complete seizure freedom for 3 years. This is an initial description of auditory aura elicited from the hippocampus using SEEG.

Predominantly visual loss, is very rare in Wernicke's encephalopathy. A 22 year old lady, in her 28th week of gestation, presented with a confused mental state, bilateral papilloedema with retinal hemorrhages, ophthalmoparesis, and cerebellar signs. Her MRI brain was suggestive of Wernicke's encephalopathy and she recovered with intravenous thiamine.

BACKGROUND: Mucormycosis infection of the maxillofacial region and brain has been associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Mucormycosis was relatively a rare infection before COVID-19, and imaging findings are not very well described. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective imaging study of 101 patients diagnosed with COVID-19-associated mucormycosis by histopathology and/or culture was performed. All patients underwent computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging based on the clinical condition of the patient and on consensus decision by the team of treating physicians. A simple 3-stage classification system based on imaging findings was adopted. RESULTS: One hundred one cases were included in the final analysis (mean age = 55.1 years; male/female ratio = 67:34). The affected patients had diabetes in 94% of the instances (n = 95), 80.1% (n = 81) received steroids), whereas 59.4% (n = 60) patients received supplemental oxygen. The majority underwent surgical intervention, whereas in 6 cases, patients were treated with antibiotic regimens. Sixty subjects improved following therapy, whereas 18 eventually succumbed to the illness. We noted a significant positive correlation between the imaging stage and outcomes. No association was seen between other clinical parameters and final clinical outcomes. Salient imaging findings include lack of normal sinonasal mucosal enhancement, perisinus inflammation, ischemic optic neuropathy, perineural spread, pachymeningeal enhancement, and presence of strokes. CONCLUSIONS: We describe the imaging findings in the largest cohort of patients with rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic. A simplified staging system described here is helpful for standardized reporting and carries prognostic information.

Objective: To study impact of COVID-19 pandemic on frequency, clinical/electrophysiological profile and treatment outcomes in pediatric Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). Background: GBS is the most frequent cause of pediatric acute flaccid paralysis. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric GBS is unclear in the literature. Methods: We conducted an ambispective, multicentric, cohort study involving 12 of 27 centres in GBS Consortium, during two periods: pre-COVID-19 (March-August 2019) and during COVID-19 (March-August 2020). Children ≤12 years who satisfied National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke criteria for GBS/variants were enrolled. Details pertaining to clinical/laboratory parameters, treatment and outcomes (modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at discharge, GBS Disability score at discharge and 3 months) were analysed. Results: We enrolled 33 children in 2019 and 10 in 2020. Children in 2020 were older (median 10.4 [interquartile range 6.75-11.25] years versus 5 (2.5-8.4) years; P = 0.022) and had more sensory symptoms (50% versus 18.2%; P = 0.043). The 2020 group had relatively favourable mRS at discharge (median 1 (1-3.5) versus 3 (2-4); P = 0.042) and GBS disability score at 3 months (median 0 (0-0.75) versus 2 (0-3); P = 0.009) compared to 2019. Multivariate analysis revealed bowel involvement (P = 0.000) and ventilatory support (P = 0.001) as independent predictors of disability. No child in 2020 had preceding/concurrent SARS-CoV2 infection. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic led to a marked decline in pediatric GBS presenting to hospitals. Antecedent illnesses, clinical and electrophysiological profile of GBS remained largely unchanged from the pre-pandemic era.
