Rationale: Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) is characterized by extensive pulmonary vascular remodeling caused by plexiform and obliterative lesions, media hypertrophy, inflammatory cell infiltration, and alterations of the adventitia. Objective: We sought to test the hypothesis that microscopic IPAH vascular lesions express unique molecular profiles, which collectively are different from control pulmonary arteries. Methods: We used digital spatial transcriptomics to profile the genomewide differential transcriptomic signature of key pathological lesions (plexiform, obliterative, intima+media hypertrophy, and adventitia) in IPAH lungs (n = 11) and compared these data with the intima+media hypertrophy and adventitia of control pulmonary artery (n = 5). Measurements and Main Results: We detected 8,273 transcripts in the IPAH lesions and control lung pulmonary arteries. Plexiform lesions and IPAH adventitia exhibited the greatest number of differentially expressed genes when compared with intima+media hypertrophy and obliterative lesions. Plexiform lesions in IPAH showed enrichment for 1) genes associated with transforming growth factor ß signaling and 2) mutated genes affecting the extracellular matrix and endothelial-mesenchymal transformation. Plexiform lesions and IPAH adventitia showed upregulation of genes involved in immune and IFN signaling, coagulation, and complement pathways. Cellular deconvolution indicated variability in the number of vascular and inflammatory cells between IPAH lesions, which underlies the differential transcript profiling. Conclusions: IPAH lesions express unique molecular transcript profiles enriched for pathways involving pathogenetic pathways, including genetic disease drivers, innate and acquired immunity, hypoxia sensing, and angiogenesis signaling. These data provide a rich molecular-structural framework in IPAH vascular lesions that inform novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets in this highly morbid disease.

A race to achieve a crossover from positive to negative magnetoresistance is intense in the field of nanostructured materials to reduce the size of memory devices. Here, the unusual complex magnetoresistance in nonmagnetic sulfur-doped Sb2Se3 nanowires is demonstrated. Intentionally, sulfur is doped in such a way to nearly achieve the charge neutrality point that is evident from switching of carrier type from p-type to n-type at 13 K as inferred from the low-temperature thermoelectric power measurements. A change from 3D variable range hopping (VRH) to power law transport with α = 0.18  in resistivity measurement signifies a Luttinger liquid transport with weak links through the nanowires. Interestingly, high magnetic field induced negative magnetoresistance (NMR) occurring in hole dominated temperature regimes can only be explained by invoking the concept of charge puddles. Spot energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), magnetic force microscopy (MFM) measurements, Tmott and Regel plot indicate an enhanced disorder in these sulfurized nanowires that are found to be the precursor for the formation of these charge puddles. Tunability of conducting states in these nanowires is investigated in the light of interplay of carrier type, magnetic field, temperature, and intricate intra-inter wire transport that makes this nanowires potential for large scale spintronic devices.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Intrauterine metabolic reprogramming occurs in mothers with obesity during gestation, putting the offspring at high risk of developing obesity and associated metabolic disorders even before birth. We have generated a mouse model of maternal high-fat diet-induced obesity that recapitulates the metabolic changes seen in humans born to women with obesity. METHODS: Here, we profiled and compared the metabolic characteristics of bone marrow cells of newly weaned 3-week-old offspring of dams fed either a high-fat (Off-HFD) or a regular diet (Off-RD). We utilized a state-of-the-art flow cytometry, and targeted metabolomics approach coupled with a Seahorse metabolic analyzer. RESULTS: We revealed significant metabolic perturbation in the offspring of HFD-fed vs. RD-fed dams, including utilization of glucose primarily via oxidative phosphorylation. We also show a reduction in levels of amino acids, a phenomenon previously linked to bone marrow aging. Using flow cytometry, we found changes in the immune complexity of bone marrow cells and identified a unique B cell population expressing CD19 and CD11b in the bone marrow of three-week-old offspring of high-fat diet-fed mothers. Our data also revealed increased expression of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) on myeloid CD11b, and on CD11bhi B cells. CONCLUSIONS: Altogether, we demonstrate that the offspring of mothers with obesity show metabolic and immune changes in the bone marrow at a very young age and prior to any symptomatic metabolic disease.

Palaeochannels are remnants of rivers or stream channels filled with younger sediments over the period of time. In ancient times, these rivers/channels were thriving in phenomenal conditions, but due to frequent tectonic activities, they lost the direction of their original path and were gradually either lost or buried under thick beds of younger alluvium. Palaeochannels act as reservoirs for fresh groundwater since they are made up of coarser sediments and were formerly flowing rivers. Depending on the groundwater regime and local topography, these could either be saturated or dry. The palaeochannels have high groundwater potential if saturated. These are ideal sites for artificial groundwater recharge, if dry. The identification of palaeochannels becomes quite challenging if they are buried under thick deposits of finer younger sediments. In the present study, an attempt has been made to characterize the Saraswati River Palaeochannel in parts of Yamuna Nagar and Kurukshetra districts of Haryana by using surface and subsurface geophysical methods. Till date, the palaeochannels in this area were mainly discerned on the basis of remote sensing only; therefore, geophysical characterization of these palaeochannels has been attempted in this study. In surface geophysical methods, electrical resistivity surveys, especially gradient resistivity profiling (GRP) and vertical electrical sounding (VES), were conducted in the study area, while electrical and natural gamma logging was used as subsurface geophysical approaches to identify the coarser sands of buried palaeochannels. The main objective of the study was to characterize the Saraswati River palaeochannel and analyze the quality of the groundwater stored in the palaeochannel in the study area. The findings were compared with the well-log data and were found in good agreement.

Air pollution is one of the most significant threats to human safety due to its detrimental health consequences worldwide. This study examines the air pollution levels in 22 districts of West Bengal from 2016 to 2021, using data from 81 stations operated by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB). The study assesses the short- and long-term impacts of particulate matter (PM) on human health. The highest annual variation of PM10 was noted in 2016 (106.99 ± 34.17 µg/m3), and the lowest was reported in 2020 (88.02 ± 13.61 µg/m3), whereas the highest annual variations of NO2 (µg/m3) were found in 2016 (35.17 ± 13.55 µg/m3), and lowest in 2019 (29.72 ± 13.08 µg/m3). Similarly, the SO2 level was lower (5.35 µg/m3) in 2017 and higher in 2020 (7.78 µg/m3). In the state, Bardhaman, Bankura, Kolkata, and Howrah recorded the highest PM10 concentrations. The monthly and seasonal variations of pollution showed higher in December, January, and February (winter season) and lowest observed in June, July, and August (rainy season). The southern part of West Bengal state has recorded higher pollution levels than the northern part. The short- and long-term health impact assessment due to particulate matter shows that the estimated number of attributable cases (ENACs) for incidence of chronic bronchitis in adults and prevalence of bronchitis in children were 305,234 and 14,652 respectively. The long-term impact of PM2.5 on human health ENACs for mortality due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for adults, acute lower respiratory infections in children aged 0-5, lung cancer, and stroke for adults were 21,303, 12,477, 25,064, 94,406, and 86,272 respectively. This outcome assists decision-makers and stakeholders in effectively addressing the air pollution and health risk concerns within the specified area.

Background: Phlebitis is one of the most common complications of the peripheral venous catheter (PVC) and adversely impacts future venous access, and bacterial phlebitis may lead to bloodstream infection. The objective of the study was to reduce the to reduce the incidence of infusion-related phlebitis in children admitted to the pediatric critical care unit. Methods: This Quality Initiative was implemented in the pediatric critical care unit of a tertiary care hospital between November 2019 and April 2020. Five interventions were identified (hand hygiene, use of transparent dressing, use of extension lines with PVCs, use of hard cardboard splints for joint immobilization, use of heparinized flush after medication administration) and were introduced sequentially. Over the next five weeks, a new intervention was introduced weekly while continuing the previous ones, if found to be working well as per improvement parameter, the phlebitis rate. From the sixth week onwards, all five interventions were applied together as a bundle. Results: Total seven hundred eighteen PVCs were sited in 284 (Male: female 1.58:1) patients during study period and a total of 56 incidences of phlebitis were observed. Mean baseline phlebitis rate was 48.5%. In the next 5 weeks when interventions were implemented as planned, phlebitis rate was 35.7% (n = 10), 16.6% (n = 03), 21.6% (n = 8), 10% (n = 05), and 13.3% (n = 2) respectively. Implementation of all five interventions together as a bundle led to reduction in phlebitis rate below 5 % consistently over the next 18 weeks (n = 8). Conclusion: A consistent reduction in PVC-related phlebitis can be achieved by the implementation of evidence-based interventions for the prevention of phlebitis, as a bundle.

One of the most crippling effects of diabetes mellitus is diabetic neuropathy, which can cause discomfort, loss of movement, and even amputation. Diabetic neuropathy manifests in a variety of ways, ranging from pain to death. Diagnosing diabetic neuropathy can be challenging since it often goes unnoticed for many years following the onset of diabetes. In addition to oxidative stress in neurons, hyperglycemia activates a number of metabolic pathways that are important sources of damage and possible targets for treatment in diabetic neuropathy. Downstream metabolic cascades caused by prolonged hyperglycemia include activation of protein kinase C, increased production of advanced glycation end products, excessive release of cytokines, increased oxidative stress, and injury to peripheral nerves. Despite the fact that these metabolic anomalies are considered the main cause of diabetes-related microvascular issues, the diverse mechanistic processes of neuropathy are characterized by organ-specific histological and biochemical features. Although the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy can be treated, there are few options to correct the underlying problem. Diabetic neuropathy exerts a tremendous financial, psychological, and physical burden on society, emphasizing the need for efficient and focused treatment. The major goal of this review is to shed light on the multiple mechanisms and pathways that contribute to the onset of diabetic neuropathy and to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of emerging therapeutic strategies to postpone or reverse various forms of diabetic neuropathy. The article discusses available medications and provides the latest guidelines for the treatment of pain and distal symmetric polyneuropathy, including diabetic autonomic neuropathy, which may help the patients control pain well and assess alternatives for treatment that might be more successful in preventing or delaying the course of a disease.

INTRODUCTION: In the current era, infectious diseases pose a significant global challenge, primarily attributed to the widespread and prolonged use of antibiotics, which develop antimicrobial resistance. A significant proportion of pharmaceutical agents utilized globally can be traced back to plant origins, constituting approximately 25%. Medicinal applications harness a wide spectrum of plant-derived components, including flowers, leaves, stems, fruits, roots, waxes, oils, bioactive compounds, phytochemicals, and various other constituents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our experiment evaluated the antibacterial activity of four different culinary plant leaf extracts. These extracts were prepared using four different solvents and were investigated against the gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli DH5α using agar well diffusion and agar disc diffusion methods by measuring the zone of inhibition. RESULTS: The aqueous extract of all leaves did not show any antibacterial activity, likely due to poor diffusion due to the formation of a precipitate. Conversely, Cichorium endivia has shown the highest antibacterial activity in isopropanol as compared to other herbs. Among the herbs examined, organic extracts from endives and soybeans have demonstrated notably strong antibacterial activity compared to the other herbs. CONCLUSION: Conducting a systematic screening of leaf extracts from various culinary herbs to assess their antibacterial effectiveness against E. coli has produced encouraging and noteworthy results. In the investigation of various herbs, organic extracts derived from endives and soybeans have exhibited particularly robust antibacterial efficacy when compared to other herbal extracts.

Genetic transformation is helpful in enhancing crops, utilising promoters that can be constitutive, inducible, or tissue-specific. However, the use of constitutive promoters may hinder plant growth due to energy consumption during cellular processes. To optimise transgene effects, tissue-specific promoters like root-specific ones prove valuable in addressing root-related issues and enhancing productivity. Yet, identified root-specific promoters in crop are limited. To address this gap, the expression pattern of the root-specific SlREO promoter was examined across various crops. Sequencing confirmed its identity and high homology (99%) with the NCBI database, distinct from other plants tested. Using the PLACE database, six motifs associated with root expression were identified, along with several other important elements. The 2.4kb SlREO promoter was linked to a ß-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene alongside the CaMV35S promoter in pRI 201-AN-GUS vectors to study its expression. Histochemistry revealed strong root-specific expression in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum ) root tissues and limited expression in stems. However, the SlREO promoter did not consistently maintain its root-specific expression in other plants. Conversely, the CaMV35S promoter exhibited constitutive expression across all tissues in various plants. This study underscores the potential of the SlREO promoter as a root-specific regulatory element, offering avenues for improving crops, particularly against environmental stresses.

ABSTRACT: Autoantibodies are the cause of the chronic inflammatory diseases known as neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). Serum antibodies (Abs) that specifically target the aquaporin-4 (AQP-4) water channel are the cause of recurrent episodes of optic neuritis, myelitis, and/or brain stem disorders. In contrast to AQP-4 Abs, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) Abs are detected in some patients exhibiting nonmotor cognitive impairment. These days, the term "MOG-encephalomyelitis" (MOG-EM) is frequently used to describe these clinical syndromes. The diagnosis of these cases involves the use of magnetic resonance imaging, optical coherence tomography, antibody detection, and additional laboratory testing. By detecting the patient's Abs in their serum or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) aids in the proper diagnosis. We highlight five NMOSD cases where serum anti-MOG antibody positivity was found using IIF, but CSF was not. In none of the cases, anti-AQP Abs were found. Effective patient management strategies include the treatment of acute attacks and long-term immunosuppressive drugs such as rituximab, azathioprine, and immunoglobulins. IIF is a quick and easy tool to detect anti-MOG Abs in patients with NMOSD/myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disorder. CSF testing for MOG or AQP-4 Abs is not usually advised. It does not offer additional benefits to help with MOG-EM or NMOSD diagnosis.


RésuméLes autoanticorps sont à l'origine de maladies inflammatoires chroniques connues sous le nom de troubles du spectre de la neuromyélite optique (NMOSD). Sérum les anticorps (Abs) qui ciblent spécifiquement le canal hydrique de l'aquaporine-4 (AQP-4) sont à l'origine d'épisodes récurrents de névrite optique, de myélite,et/ou des troubles du tronc cérébral. Contrairement aux Abs AQP-4, les Abs glycoprotéines oligodendrocytes de myéline (MOG) sont détectés chez certains patients présentant déficience cognitive non motrice. De nos jours, le terme « MOG encéphalomyélite ¼ (MOG-EM) est fréquemment utilisé pour décrire ces troubles cliniques syndrome. Le diagnostic de ces cas fait appel à l'imagerie par résonance magnétique, à la tomographie par cohérence optique, à la détection d'anticorps, et des tests de laboratoire supplémentaires. En détectant les Abs du patient dans son sérum ou liquide céphalo-rachidien (LCR), immunofluorescence indirecte (IIF) aide au bon diagnostic. Nous mettons en évidence cinq cas de NMOSD où la positivité des anticorps anti-MOG sériques a été trouvée en utilisant l'IIF, mais le LCRn'était pas. Dans aucun des cas, des Ac anti-AQP n'ont été trouvés. Les stratégies efficaces de prise en charge des patients comprennent le traitement des crises aiguës et médicaments immunosuppresseurs à long terme tels que le rituximab, l'azathioprine et les immunoglobulines. IIF est un outil simple et rapide pour détecter les anti-MOG Abs chez les patients atteints d'un trouble associé aux anticorps anti-glycoprotéine oligodendrocytaire de NMOSD/myéline. Les tests CSF pour MOG ou AQP-4 Abs ne sont pas habituellement conseillé. Il n'offre pas d'avantages supplémentaires pour faciliter le diagnostic MOG-EM ou NMOSD.

Daily living physical activities of rural pregnant women, across most continents in the world, involve adoption of high-flexion postures like deep-squat. Deep-squat elicits substantial activation of major trunk and lower extremity muscles. Adequate strength of trunk muscles is known to facilitate forward-downward propulsion of baby during labour. Therefore, current study aimed to explore influence of overall physical activity including squat exposure on trunk and lower-extremity muscle strength and labour outcomes in rural and urban primigravida women. Twenty-eight primi-gravida women were stratified into 2 groups: rural habitual-squatters (n=14) and urban non-squatters (n=14). Daily squat exposure was measured using MGM-Ground-Level-Activity-Questionnaire; lower-lumbar spine motion with modified-Schober-test; lower-extremity muscle strength using 30-sec-chair-raise-test, trunk muscle endurance with pressure biofeedback, calf muscle endurance was measured using calf raise test. Duration of second stage of labour and type of delivery was recorded. Habitual Squatters (average squat exposure=68.9±25.3 min) demonstrated lower waist: hip ratio (p=0.02); greater overall physical activity level (p=0.001), lumbo-pelvic mobility (p=0.02), lower-extremity muscle strength (p=0.001); and shorter duration of 2nd stage of labour (p=0.001) compared to non-squatters. Excellent positive correlation was observed between daily-squat exposure and back muscle endurance (Spearman's rho=0.98, p=0.001). Normal vaginal delivery was conducted in 83% squatters and in 71% non-squatters. Present findings indicate strong influence of habitual physical activity including squat exposure on improved trunk-lower-extremity strength, lumbo-pelvic mobility and shorter duration of second stage of labor.

An easily synthesizable indole-derived chromofluorogenic probe InNS has been demonstrated for recognition of trivalent metal ions (i. e., Al3+, Ga3+, In3+ and Fe3+). Both UV-Vis and emission spectral studies have been employed to assess the cation sensing ability of InNS in semi-aqueous medium. This probe exhibited a chromogenic response for these metal ions, and the related change was accompanied with the appearance of a new absorption near 376 nm. An obvious color change from pale yellow to dark yellow could also be noticed upon addition of the aforementioned metal ions to the probe's solution. Distinctively from the UV-Vis analysis, the fluorescence behavior of InNS was completely different; it displayed a 'turn-on' fluorescence response for only Al3+ among all the studied cations. The detection limit and the association constant (Ka) for Al3+ were determined to be 12.5 nM and 6.85×106 M-1, respectively. A potential 1 : 1 binding mode of Al3+-InNS has been established based on Job's plot, 1H NMR and DFT analyses. The reversibility experiment was conducted using strongly chelating EDTA ion, and a corresponding logic gate has been devised. In terms of practical applications, the InNS has been utilized to detect Al3+ in human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cell lines displaying promising 'turn-on' bioimaging experiments.

Rapid modern industrialization and urbanization have escalated heavy metal pollution, with palladium (Pd2+) raising significant concerns due to its extensive usage in catalysis, hydrogen storage, and electronics, thereby imposing substantial risks on the environment and human health. In this study, we report a highly fluorescent indium nanocubes based chemosensor (InNCs) functionalized with perylene tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) and 4-(pyridyl)ethenyl benzene (PEB). The InNCs exhibited emission maximum at 415 nm (λex âˆ¼ 350 nm) with robust chemical and photo-stability, and acted as a fluorogenic probe for selective recognition of Pd2+ in aqueous medium. The fluorescence sensing properties of InNCs were thoroughly assessed via different techniques including steady-state absorption, emission and time-resolved emission spectroscopic methods. Among the various competitive analytes, only Pd2+ could induce a significant fluorescence quenching in the probe. This "turn-off" fluorescence sensing demonstrated a remarkably low LoD of ∼65 nM. Notably, with the addition of EDTA, the probe displayed good recyclability upto 4 cycles. The sensory probe was successfully employed as a reusable platform to estimate Pd(II) in different real water and soil samples with considerable accuracy (∼ 5-10 % error). Moreover, the probe exhibited a pH-induced fluorescence transition, indicating its potential to be applied as a pH sensor. The Pd(II) binding and pH-sensing mechanisms have also been elucidated through density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Context: The existence of more than one antibody in systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs) or connective tissue disease (CTD) along with features of more than one autoimmune disease (AD) in an individual is suggestive of overlap syndrome (OS). Line immunoassay (LIA) can target many autoantibodies in a single approach, thus making the identification of OS feasible. Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to identify the pattern of distribution of antinuclear antibodies by LIA prevalent in a hospital population in eastern India and identify common forms of SARD in this belt based on laboratory findings. Material and Methods: A total of 1660 samples received for ANA profile testing by LIA were analysed. Statistical Analysis: Factor analysis was performed with factor loading scores used in the k-means algorithm to identify clustering of various autoantibodies. Results: U1-snRNP positivity was the highest at 16.69%, and the least frequent autoantibody noted was anti-Jo-1 at 0.71% positivity. Based on the outcome of factor analysis, three clusters were determined. Cluster 1 showed a predominance of anti-PM/Scl antibodies, cluster 2 showed a predominance of anti-dsDNA, anti-histone, anti-SmD1, anti-nucleosomes, anti-PCNA, anti-Po, anti-SSA/Ro52, anti-SSA-Ro60, anti-SSB/La, anti-Scl-70, anti-Mi-2, anti-Ku and anti-AMA-M2, and cluster 3 showed a predominance of anti-U1-snRNP. Conclusions: Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and overlap syndrome (OS) are prevalent more than pure form of an AD in our study population. OS may be missed out by monospecific immunoassays and hence adds to diagnostic challenges. LIA may be more useful in identifying specific autoantibodies by a single approach rather than monospecific immunoassays in populations after a positive screen by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF).

A quinoline-derived Schiff base QnSb has been synthesized for fluorescent and colorimetric recognition of Al3+ ions in a semi-aqueous medium. The compound QnSb has been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H/13C NMR, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectral techniques. The crystal structure of the QnSb was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) analysis. Notably, almost non-fluorescent QnSb served as a 'turn on' responsive probe for Al3+ by inducing a remarkable fluorescence enhancement at 422 nm when excited at 310 nm. The probe QnSb exhibited high selectivity for Al3+ in CH3CN/H2O (4:1, v/v) solution over several competing metal ions (e.g., Mg2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Fe3+/2+, Cr3+, Mn2+, Sn2+, and Hg2+). The limit of detection (LoD) was computed as low as 15.8 nM which is significantly lower than the permissible limit set by WHO for Al3+ ions in drinking water. A 1:1 binding stoichiometry of complex QnSb-Al3+ was established with the help of Job's plot, ESI-MS, NMR and DFT analyses. Based on its remarkable sensing ability, the probe QnSb was utilized to establish molecular logic gates, and the fluorescence detection of Al3+ could clearly be demonstrated on the filter paper test strips.

OBJECTIVES: Prevention of pre-analytical issues in coagulation testing is of paramount importance for good laboratory performance. In addition to common issues like hemolysed, icteric, or lipemic samples, some specific pre-analytical errors of coagulation testing include clotted specimens, improper blood-to-anticoagulant ratio, contamination with other anticoagulants, etc. Prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) are very commonly affected tests due to pre-analytical variables. The impact these parameters possess on surgical decision-making and various life-saving interventions are substantial therefore we cannot afford laxity and casual mistakes in carrying out these critical investigations at all. CASE PRESENTATION: In this case series, a total of 4 cases of unexpectedly deranged coagulation profiles have been described which were reported incorrectly due to the overall casual approach towards these critical investigations. We have also mentioned how the treating clinician and lab physician retrospectively accessed relevant information in the nick of time to bring back reassurance. CONCLUSIONS: Like every other critical investigation, analytical errors can occur in coagulation parameters due to various avoidable pre-analytical variables. The release of spurious results for coagulation parameters sets alarm bells ringing causing much agony to the treating doctor and patient. Only a disciplined and careful approach taken by hospital and lab staff towards each sample regardless of its criticality can negate these stressful errors to a large extent.

Chemical effects on L X-rays spectra of PrF3, PrCl3, PrBr3, Pr2O3, Pr6O11 and Pr2(SO4)3 compounds have been investigated from measured ILi/ILα (i = l and ß6), ILj/ILß1 (j = Î·, γ5 and γ1), ILk/ILγ1 (k = Î³5 and η) intensity ratios using high resolution poly-chromatic WDXRF, and monochromatic excitation by 6.49 keV in vacuum (10-2 Torr) and Ag Kαß (22.581 keV) X-rays photons in EDXRF spectrometers. The experimental results clearly exhibit significant variation in measured intensity ratios of L X-ray components of investigated compounds from pure elemental form and theoretically predicted values evaluated using different atomic parameters. Furthermore, the change in inner shell/subshells binding energy resulting from the transitions of outer shell/subshell electrons is also inferred from the shifts of order ∼0.1-0.70 eV in Ll, Lß2 and Lγ1 components of PrF3, PrCl3, PrBr3, Pr2O3, Pr6O11 and Pr2(SO4)3 WDXRF spectra relative to pure 59Pr. The variation in intensity ratios and shift in Ll, Lß2 and Lγ1 X-ray components of 59Pr compounds are attributed to crystal defects, structural effects and exchange interactions between core and valence electrons of different ligands attached to central 59Pr atom. The reliable experimental data would be helpful in the theoretical interpretation of standard reference data for inner-shell vacancy decay parameters used in X-ray fluorescence analysis of compound samples.

Intrauterine metabolic reprogramming occurs in obese mothers during gestation, putting the offspring at high risk of developing obesity and associated metabolic disorders even before birth. We have generated a mouse model of maternal high-fat diet-induced obesity that recapitulates the metabolic changes seen in humans born to obese women. Here, we profiled and compared the metabolic characteristics of bone marrow cells of newly weaned 3-week-old offspring of dams fed either a high-fat (Off-HFD) or a regular diet (Off-RD). We utilized a state-of-the-art targeted metabolomics approach coupled with a Seahorse metabolic analyzer. We revealed significant metabolic perturbation in the offspring of HFD-fed vs. RD-fed dams, including utilization of glucose primarily via oxidative phosphorylation. We also found a reduction in levels of amino acids, a phenomenon previously linked to bone marrow aging. Using flow cytometry, we identified a unique B cell population expressing CD19 and CD11b in the bone marrow of three-week-old offspring of high-fat diet-fed mothers, and found increased expression of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) on myeloid CD11b, and on CD11bhi B cells. Altogether, we demonstrate that the offspring of obese mothers show metabolic and immune changes in the bone marrow at a very young age and prior to any symptomatic metabolic disease.

Initially hydrogenated silicon (Si:H) thin films have been deposited using a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique (PECVD) using silane (SiH4) as a precursor gas diluted in an inert gas argon (Ar) environment. Subsequently phosphine gas (PH3) was used as the n-type dopant and the deposition was carried out at a fixed substrate temperature of 200 °C. The PH3 flow rate was varied in the range of 0-1 sccm. The effect of PH3 flow rates on optical, electrical, and structural properties of hydrogenated amorphous and micro/nanocrystalline silicon films has been investigated and detailed analysis is presented. These films may find application in heterojunction solar cells as an emitter layer. Further, a crystalline silicon (c-Si) based simple p-n junction solar cell is simulated using an SCAP-1D tool to observe the effect of layer thickness and doping density on solar cell parameters.
