RESUMO

A new cave-dwelling fish Triplophysa luochengensis is described based on specimens collected from a karst cave in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, that is interconnected to the Hongshui River drainage. The species can be distinguished from its congeners by a combination of characters: eyes degenerated, anal fin with six branched rays, caudal fin with 16-17 branched rays, pectoral-fin length 72·4-95·8% of the distance between pectoral-fin origin and pelvic-fin origin, lateral head length 26·2-28·2% of standard length (LS ), eye diameter 7·5-8·6 of LS , body covered by sparse scales, lateral line complete and 7-8 pre-operculo-mandibular pores. Dark pigments irregularly present on dorsum of head, dorsum and flank.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate clinical efficacy of parasacral perforator flap (PPF) on postoperative wound healing in pilonidal sinus diseases (PSDs). Methods: The surgery steps were as follows: (1) To preoperatively detect parasacral perforator arteries with the handhold Doppler probe and mark them; (2) To remove the infected and necrotic tissues of PSDs completely; (3) To design the PPF according to the wound size and the parasacral perforator arteries' localization; (4) To harvest the flap from the gluteus maximus muscle surface and transfer it to the wound without tension. Several data were documented, including surgical duration, flap length, flap width, drainage tube placement duration, hospital stay, duration from operation to stitch removal, postsurgical complications and recurrence. Results: There were six patients with PSDs whose postoperative wound healing was repaired by PPF, admitted in our department from March 2021 to March 2023. Of them, five were male and one was female. Their median age was 24 (range: 18-33) years old. Their median surgical duration was 165 (range: 134-207) minutes, median length of PPF was 8 (range: 7-11) cm, median width of PPF was 3 (range: 3-4) cm, mean duration of drainage tube placement was 8 (range: 4-17) days, mean hospital stay was 13 (range: 6-23) days, mean duration from operation to stitch removal was 14 (range: 14-17) days, median follow-up time was 6-16 months. Incisions of all six cases achieved first-intention healing without early- or late-stage complications. No recurrence occurred during follow-up. All patients involved were satisfied with their clinical efficacy. Conclusion: The utility of PPF in postoperative wound healing of PPDs was effective, safe and reliable.

RESUMO

Antibiotic resistance is a major issue in animal industries and antibiotic-free alternatives are needed to treat infectious diseases and improve performance of pigs. Plant extracts have been suggested as a potential solution. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of Astragalus polysaccharides (Aps) and ginseng polysaccharide (Gps) on growth performance, intestinal morphology, immune function, volatile fatty acids (VFAs), and microfloral community in weaned piglets. A total of 180 weaned piglets were randomly divided into three treatment groups during a 28-days feeding experiment, including a basal diet (Con), basal diet supplemented with 800 mg/kg Aps (Aps), and basal diet supplemented with 800 mg/kg Gps (Gps). Results showed that both Aps and Gps increased body weight, average daily gain and feed conversion rate, and reduced the rate of diarrhea. Gps also decreased aspartate aminotransferase compared to the Con piglets after 14 days. No significant effects on alanine aminotransferase were observed. Both Aps and Gps piglets exhibited higher serum immunoglobulin M levels after 14 and 28 days, and also decreased jejunal crypt depth, increased jejunal villus length and villus height/crypt depth ratio, and increased expression of toll-like receptor 4, myeloid differentiation primary response 88, nuclear factor-kappa B proteins in the jejunum. Aps and Gps piglets also had higher concentrations of acetic acid, isobutyric acid, and butyrate in their colon. Data of high-throughput sequencing revealed that Aps and Gps affected bacterial quantity and diversity in the colon. Species richness and evenness were higher in both Aps and Gps piglets than the control piglets. Aps and Gps piglets also had a higher relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae and Anaerostipes, and the Aps piglets had a higher relative abundance of Lactobacillus gasseri and L. amylovorus. Therefore, dietary supplementation with Aps and Gps could be beneficial for optimizing the performance of industry pigs and reducing dependence on antibiotics. Furthermore, Plant polysaccharides play a great role in promoting the sustainable development of animal husbandry.

RESUMO

Recently, the +2 formal oxidation state in soluble molecular complexes for lanthanides (La-Nd, Sm-Lu) and actinides (Th and U) has been discovered [W. J. Evans, et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2011, 133, 15914; J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2012, 134, 8420; J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2013, 135, 13310; Chem. Sci., 2015, 6, 517]. To explore the nature of the bonding and stabilities of the low-valent actinide complexes, a series of divalent actinide species, [AnCp'3](-) (An[double bond, length as m-dash]Th-Am, Cp' = [η(5)-C5H4(SiMe3)](-)) have been investigated in THF solution using scalar relativistic density functional theory. The electronic structures and electron affinity properties were systematically studied to identify the interactions between the +2 actinide ions and Cp' ligands. The ground state electron configurations for the [AnCp'3](-) species are [ThCp'3](-) 6d(2), [PaCp'3](-) 5f(2)6d(1), [UCp'3](-) 5f(3)6d(1), [NpCp'3](-) 5f(5), [PuCp'3](-) 5f(6), and [AmCp'3](-) 5f(7), respectively, according to the MO analysis. The total bonding energy decreases from the Th- to the Am-complex and the electrostatic interactions mainly dominate the bonding between the actinide atom and ligands. The electron affinity analysis suggests that the reduction reaction of AnCp'3→ [AnCp'3](-) should become increasingly facile across the actinide series from Th to Am, in accord with the known An(iii/ii) reduction potentials. This work expands the knowledge on the low oxidation state chemistry of actinides, and further motivates and guides the synthesis of related low oxidation state compounds of 5f elements.

RESUMO

Carcinoma of the uterine cervix has been the leading malignant neoplasm treated in our department. A comparative study was carried out using conventional low dose rate (LDR) with 137Cs sources (less than or equal to 100 cGy/hr) versus high dose rate (HDR) with 60Co sources (greater than 100 cGy/min) in the intracavitary (IC) application following external pelvic irradiation. A total of 399 patients were treated with external RT plus HDR radiation treatment alone from February 1980 through December 1985. Stage IIb and IIIb comprised 79.4% of cases (317 cases). The rate of initial complete response of the tumor, local control, and survival rate seemingly were better in the HDR group, but there was no significant difference statistically. The actuarial survival rates in all cases/definitive RT cases are 85%/85% for Stage 0-IIa, 53%/70% for IIb, 43%/49% for IIIa, 43%/53% for IIIb, 42%/47% for IVa, respectively. Complications were similar and the rectal complications were slightly higher in HDR group. The combination of pelvic irradiation with HDR intracavitary irradiation was more convenient for patients and also for personnel. The HDR technique may be a good substitution for IC treatment.
