RESUMO

5,14-Diaryldiindeno[2,1- f:1',2' -j]picene (DDP, 1), a thermally and chemically stable helical arene, can be prepared from 1,4-bis[2-(arylethynyl)phenyl]benzene in four synthetic steps. Its helical backbone, which incorporates an o-quinodimethane moiety, was verified by X-ray crystallography, and this structural feature results in a very high barrier to racemization (exceeding 50 kcal/mol). DDP possesses versatile and promising properties, including a small HOMO-LUMO energy gap (1.31 eV for the dimesityl-substituted derivative 1ab), an electron spin resonance (ESR)-active character, a small triplet-singlet energy gap (4.75 kcal/mol), broad photoabsorption covering the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared (NIR) regions, two-photon absorption in the NIR range, and respectable ambipolar charge-transport behavior in a solution-processed organic field-effect transistor.

Two-dimensional (2D) layered perovskites (An+1BnX3n+1, n = 1, 2, …) have recently attracted significant research interest because of their enhanced ambient stability compared to their conventional 3D counterparts. In addition to the common A-site cation engineering, using an asymmetric pseudo-halide anion, SCN-, in the anion X-site has been recently proven to be another effective approach to constitute 2D perovskites. Among these, 2D (MA)2Pb(SCN)2I2 was the most widely investigated and was considered to be a promising material owing to its good optoelectronic properties; however, its poor stability has aroused concerns in recent researches. In this study, systematical composition engineering of A2Pb(SCN)2X2 (A = FA+, MA+, Cs+ and X = Br-, I-) was conducted. Our results revealed that the linear SCN- anion dictates critical restrictions on the constituent ions of its derived 2D framework (PbX4(SCN)2), which has not yet been extensively discussed. We demonstrated that using a smaller Cs+ cation can afford a more favorable 2D structure compared with the MA+ cation. Cs2Pb(SCN)2I2 was revealed to possess improved stability and photo-response compared to (MA)2Pb(SCN)2I2. Interestingly, Cs2Pb(SCN)2I2 and (MA)2Pb(SCN)2I2 appear to possess distinct electronic band structures. This is indicated by their discrepant photoluminescence spectra, in which the former exhibits a rather intense singlet emission at room temperature in contrast with the latter, which shows a dominant emission associated with triplet or defective states. Furthermore, using a smaller Cs+ cation enables facile replacement of a smaller halide anion. A series of mixed-halide 2D Cs2Pb(SCN)2(I1-xBrx)2 (x = 0, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 1) with varying vivid colors was explored by both calculation and experimental efforts to corroborate the enhanced stability when the x value increases. The results revealed in this study might represent a novel discovery of an inherent trait of the 2D SCN-based perovskites and also suggest that the all-inorganic 2D Cs2Pb(SCN)2X2 perovskite system is a promising class of materials with good stability and color-tunability that deserves further exploration.

A highly efficient synthesis of benzoimidazo[1,2-a]imidazolone through a novel oxidative 5-exo-dig cyclization-ketonization cascade of 2-aminobenzimidazole, aldehyde and terminal alkyne has been explored under aerobic conditions. The reaction proceeds through copper-catalyzed addition of terminal alkynes to imines derived from 2-aminobenzimidazole with aldehyde followed by intramolecular cyclization. The atmospheric molecular oxygen acts as an oxygen source for the newly formed carbonyl group in the final product.

BACKGROUND: The oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel), is one of the most destructive pests in many Asian countries. An effective strategy to reduce fly density in the field is urgently required. Recently, the doublesex of B. dorsalis (Bddsx(f) ) has been cloned, and RNA interference (RNAi) indicates that it can reduce the offspring in vitro. In this study, a piggyBac-based construct that generates short hairpin RNA (shRNA) against the female-specific region of Bddsx was introduced into the pest to test the RNAi effects on reproductive functions in vivo. RESULTS: After embryonic injection and backcross, 21 transgenic lines with germline transformation were identified. Genomic DNA analysis showed that the exogenous transgene including short hairpin Bddsx(f) and a DsRed marker had integrated into the genomes of 11 transformed lines. Northern blot analysis indicated the presence of Bddsx(f) short interfering RNA (siRNA) under the control of a U6 promoter in transformed flies. As expected, the specific effects of RNAi led to the delay of egg maturation, and the offspring was significantly reduced. Reverse transcription real-time PCR further demonstrated that in vivo interference not only specifically inhibited the Bddsx(f) transcript but also repressed expression of the downstream yolk protein gene (Bdyp1). CONCLUSION: The results clearly indicate that RNAi is heritable through the expression of specific siRNA in early generations of transformed oriental fruit fly. These results can broaden the understanding of sex-related developmental mechanisms in the fly, and also offer a possible molecular approach for pest control in the future.
