RESUMO

High-level detection of weak targets under bright light has always been an important yet challenging task. In this paper, a method of effectively fusing intensity and polarization information has been proposed to tackle this issue. Specifically, an attention-guided dual-discriminator generative adversarial network (GAN) has been designed for image fusion of these two sources, in which the fusion results can maintain rich background information in intensity images while significantly completing target information from polarization images. The framework consists of a generator and two discriminators, which retain the texture and salient information as much as possible from the source images. Furthermore, attention mechanism is introduced to focus on contextual semantic information and enhance long-term dependency. For preserving salient information, a suitable loss function has been introduced to constrain the pixel-level distribution between the result and the original image. Moreover, the real scene dataset of weak targets under bright light has been built and the effects of fusion between polarization and intensity information on different weak targets have been investigated and discussed. The results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other methods both in subjective evaluations and objective indexes, which prove the effectiveness of achieving accurate detection of weak targets in bright light background.

Computational ghost imaging (CGI) can reconstruct scene images by two-order correlation between sampling patterns and detected intensities from a bucket detector. By increasing the sampling rates (SRs), imaging quality of CGI can be improved, but it will result in an increasing imaging time. Herein, in order to achieve high-quality CGI under an insufficient SR, we propose two types of novel sampling methods for CGI, to the best of our knowledge, cyclic sinusoidal-pattern-based CGI (CSP-CGI) and half-cyclic sinusoidal-pattern-based CGI (HCSP-CGI), in which CSP-CGI is realized by optimizing the ordered sinusoidal patterns through "cyclic sampling patterns," and HCSP-CGI just uses half of the sinusoidal pattern types of CSP-CGI. Target information mainly exists in the low-frequency region, and high-quality target scenes can be recovered even at an extreme SR of 5%. The proposed methods can significantly reduce the sampling number and real-time ghost imaging possible. The experiments demonstrate the superiority of our method over state-of-the-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively.

RESUMO

Computational ghost imaging (CGI) uses preset patterns and single-pixel detection, breaking through the traditional form of point-to-point imaging. In this paper, based on the Monte Carlo model, a reflective polarization based CGI (PCGI) system has been proposed and constructed under the foggy environments. And the imaging performances of the PCGI at different optical distances have been investigated and analyzed quantitatively. When the targets and the background have a small difference in reflectivity, the difference of polarization characteristics between the targets and the background can help the CGI to remove the interference of scattering light and improve the imaging contrast. Besides, in order to further improve imaging efficiency, a scanning-mode polarization based CGI (SPCGI) has also been proposed, in which the combination of polarization characteristics and the scanning-mode plays an important role to improve the CGI's imaging efficiency and imaging quality.

Compared with the standard depolarization index, indices of polarimetric purity (IPPs) have better performances to describe depolarization characteristics of targets with different roughnesses of interfaces under different incident angles, which allow us a further analysis of the depolarizing properties of samples. Here, we use IPPs obtained from different reflective interfaces as a criterion of depolarization property to characterize and classify targets covered by organic paint layers with different roughness. We select point-light source as radiation source with wavelength as 632.8 nm, and four samples, including Cu, Au, Al and Al2O3, covered by an organic paint layer with refractive index of n = 1.46 and Gaussian roughness of α = 0.05~0.25. Under different incident angles, the values of P1, P2, P3 at divided 90 × 360 grid points and their mean values in upper hemisphere have been obtained and discussed in the IPPs space. The results show that the depolarization performances of the different reflective interfaces (materials, incident angles and surface roughness) are unique in IPPs space, providing us with a new avenue to analyze and characterize different targets.

Seasonal changes impact the melatonin production and immuno-activities in vertebrates. This is believed due to the photoperiodic alterations of the different seasons which impact the functions of pineal gland. The short photoperiod promotes pineal melatonin production. As a result, during the winter, animals have significantly higher levels of melatonin than in summer. However, the seasonal changes also include temperature changes. This factor has never been systemically investigated in animals. In the current study, we observed that increased temperature had limited influence on melatonin production. In contrast, cold temperature is the major factor to induce melatonin production in hamsters. Cold temperature per se can upregulate the expressions of melatonin synthetic gene AANAT and ASMT, which are the important enzymes for melatonin biosynthesis. The elevated melatonin levels induced by the cold exposure in hamster in turn, improve the immuno-responses of the animals with increased levels of IL1, 6, and 10 as well CD3. In addition, melatonin as a potent antioxidant and thermogenic agent would improve the survival chance of animals during cold weather.

Higher concentrations of Hg can be emitted from coal pyrolysis or gasification than from coal combustion, especially elemental Hg. Highly efficient Hg removal technology from coal-derived fuel gas is thus of great importance. Based on the very excellent Hg removal ability of Pd and the high adsorption abilities of activated carbon (AC) for H2S and Hg, a series of Pd/AC sorbents was prepared by using pore volume impregnation, and their performance in capturing Hg and H2S from coal-derived fuel gas was investigated using a laboratory-scale fixed-bed reactor. The effects of loading amount, reaction temperature and reaction atmosphere on Hg removal from coal-derived fuel gas were studied. The sorbents were characterized by N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results indicated that the efficiency of Hg removal increased with the increasing of Pd loading amount, but the effective utilization rate of the active component Pd decreased significantly at the same time. High temperature had a negative influence on the Hg removal. The efficiency of Hg removal in the N2-H2S-H2-CO-Hg atmosphere (simulated coal gas) was higher than that in N2-H2S-Hg and N2-Hg atmospheres, which showed that H2 and CO, with their reducing capacity, could benefit promote the removal of Hg. The XPS results suggested that there were two different ways of capturing Hg over sorbents in N2-H2S-Hg and N2-Hg atmospheres.

Thermal radiation control has attracted increasing attention in a wide range of field, including infrared detection, radiative cooling, thermal management, and thermal camouflage. Previously reported thermal emitters for thermal camouflage presented disadvantages of lacking either tunability or thermal stability. In this paper, we propose a tunable thermal emitter consisting of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) plasmonic metamaterial based on phase-change material Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) to realize tunable control of thermal radiation in wavelength ranges from 3 µm to 14 µm. Meanwhile, the proposed thermal emitter possesses near unity emissivity at the wavelength of 6.3 µm to increase radiation heat dissipation, maintaining the thermal stability of the system. The underlying mechanism relies on fundamental magnetic resonance and the interaction between the high-order magnetic resonance and anti-reflection resonance. When the environmental background is blackbody, the tunable emitter maintains signal reduction rates greater than 80% in middle-IR and longer-IR regions from 450 K to 800 K and from room temperature to 800 K, respectively. The dependences of thermal camouflage on crystallization fraction of GST, incident angles and polarization angles have been investigated in detail. In addition, the thermal emitter can continuously realize thermal camouflage for various background temperatures and environmental background in atmospheric window in the range of 3-5 µm.

Polarization imaging is a powerful tool, which can be applied in biomedical diagnosis and many research fields. Here, we propose a new application of the indices of polarimetric purity (IPPs) composed of P1, P2, P3, to describe the glucose concentrations (GC) changes in the scattering system. The results suggest that P1 of the IPPs is a better indicator to GC in the solution than the degree of polarization (DoP) for the forward scattering detection. Meanwhile, the fitting relation among radius of scattering particle, GCs and P1 parameter has also been calculated, in which the error of inversion is no more than 4.73%. In the backscattering detection, the fitted frequency statistical histogram of the IPPs is used to measure the GCs, and their modes can represent changing trend of GCs.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility and the result for the surgical treatment of spastic cerebral paralysis of the upper limbs in patients who underwent the selective cervical dorsal root cutting off part of the vertebral lateral mass fixation combined with exercise therapy. METHODS: From March 2004 to April 2008, 27 patients included 19 boys and 8 girls, aging 13-21 years with an average of 15 years underwent selective cervical dorsal root cutting off part of the vertebral lateral mass fixation with exercise therapy. The AXIS 8 holes titanium plate was inserted into the lateral mass of spinous process through guidance of the nerve stimulator, choosed fasciculus of low-threshold nerve dorsal root and cut off its 1.5 cm. After two weeks, training exercise therapy was done in patients. Training will include lying position, turning body, sitting position, crawling, kneeling and standing position, walking and so on. Spastic Bobath inhibiting abnormal pattern was done in the whole process of training. The muscular tension, motor function (GMFM), functional independence (WeeFIM) were observed after treatment. RESULTS: All patients were followed up from 4 to 16 months with an average of 6 months. Muscular tension score were respectively 3.30 +/- 0.47 and 1.25 +/- 0.44 before and after treatment;GMFM score were respectively 107.82 +/- 55.17 and 131.28 +/- 46.45; WeeFIM score were respectively 57.61 +/- 25.51 and 87.91 +/- 22.39. There was significant improvement before and after treatment (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Selective cervical dorsal root cutting off part of the vertebral lateral mass fixation combined with exercise therapy was used to treat spastic cerebral paralysis of the upper limbs is safe and effective method, which can decrease muscular tension and improve motor function, which deserves more wide use.
