Here, we combine international air travel passenger data with a standard epidemiological model of the initial 3 mo of the COVID-19 pandemic (January through March 2020; toward the end of which the entire world locked down). Using the information available during this initial phase of the pandemic, our model accurately describes the main features of the actual global development of the pandemic demonstrated by the high degree of coherence between the model and global data. The validated model allows for an exploration of alternative policy efficacies (reducing air travel and/or introducing different degrees of compulsory immigration quarantine upon arrival to a country) in delaying the global spread of SARS-CoV-2 and thus is suggestive of similar efficacy in anticipating the spread of future global disease outbreaks. We show that a lesson from the recent pandemic is that reducing air travel globally is more effective in reducing the global spread than adopting immigration quarantine. Reducing air travel out of a source country has the most important effect regarding the spreading of the disease to the rest of the world. Based upon our results, we propose a digital twin as a further developed tool to inform future pandemic decision-making to inform measures intended to control the spread of disease agents of potential future pandemics. We discuss the design criteria for such a digital twin model as well as the feasibility of obtaining access to the necessary online data on international air travel.

BACKGROUND: The emergence of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) may provide a promising tool for early and comprehensive identification of the causative pathogen in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). In this study, we aim to further evaluate the etiological diagnostic value of mNGS in suspected CAP. METHODS: A total of 555 bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples were collected for pathogen detection by mNGS from 541 patients with suspected CAP. The clinical value was assessed based on infection diagnosis and treatment guidance. The diagnostic performance for pathogen identification by mNGS and sputum culture and for tuberculosis (TB) by mNGS and X-pert MTB/RIF were compared. To evaluate the potential for treatment guidance, we analyzed the treatment regimen of patients with suspected CAP, including imaging changes of lung after empirical antibacterial therapy, intensified regimen, antifungal treatment, and a 1-year follow up for patients with unconfirmed diagnosis and non-improvement imaging after anti-infective treatment and patients with high suspicion of TB or NTM infection who were transferred to the Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital for further diagnosis and even anti-mycobacterium therapy. RESULTS: Of the 516 BALF samples that were analyzed by both mNGS and sputum culture, the positivity rate of mNGS was significantly higher than that of sputum culture (79.1% vs. 11.4%, P = 0.001). A total of 48 samples from patients with confirmed TB were analyzed by both mNGS and X-pert MTB/RIF, and the sensitivity of mNGS for the diagnosis of active TB was significantly lower than that of X-pert MTB/RIF (64.6% vs. 85.4%, P = 0.031). Of the 106 pathogen-negative cases, 48 were ultimately considered non-infectious diseases, with a negative predictive value of 45.3%. Of the 381 pathogen-positive cases, 311 were eventually diagnosed as CAP, with a positive predictive value of 81.6%. A total of 487 patients were included in the evaluation of the therapeutic effect, and 67.1% improved with initial empirical antibiotic treatment. Of the 163 patients in which bacteria were detected, 77.9% improved with antibacterial therapy; of the 85 patients in which fungi were detected, 12.9% achieved remission after antifungal therapy. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, mNGS had unique advantages in the detection of suspected CAP pathogens. However, mNGS was not superior to X-pert MTB/RIF for the diagnosis of TB. In addition, mNGS was not necessary as a routine test for all patients admitted with suspected CAP. Furthermore, when fungi are detected by mNGS, antifungal therapy should be cautious.

BACKGROUND: Multifaceted SARS-CoV-2 interventions have modified exposure to air pollution and dynamics of respiratory diseases. Identifying the most vulnerable individuals requires effort to build a complete picture of the dynamic health effects of air pollution exposure, accounting for disparities across population subgroups. METHODS: We use generalized additive model to assess the likely changes in the hospitalisation and mortality rate as a result of exposure to PM2.5 and O3 over the course of COVID-19 pandemic. We further disaggregate the population into detailed age categories and illustrate a shifting age profile of high-risk population groups. Additionally, we apply multivariable logistic regression to integrate demographic, socioeconomic and climatic characteristics with the pollution-related excess risk. RESULTS: Overall, a total of 1,051,893 hospital admissions and 34,954 mortality for respiratory disease are recorded. The findings demonstrate a transition in the association between air pollutants and hospitalisation rates over time. For every 10 µg/m3 increase of PM2.5, the rate of hospital admission increased by 0.2% (95% CI: 0.1-0.7%) and 1.4% (1.0-1.7%) in the pre-pandemic and dynamic zero-COVID stage, respectively. Conversely, O3-related hospitalization rate would be increased by 0.7% (0.5-0.9%) in the pre-pandemic stage but lowered to 1.7% (1.5-1.9%) in the dynamic zero-COVID stage. Further assessment indicates a shift of high-risk people from children and young adolescents to the old, primarily the elevated hospitalization rates among the old people in Lianyungang (RR: 1.53, 95%CI: 1.46, 1.60) and Nantong (RR: 1.65, 95%CI: 1.57, 1.72) relative to those for children and young adolescents. Over the course of our study period, people with underlying diseases would have 26.5% (22.8-30.3%) and 12.7% (10.8-14.6%) higher odds of having longer hospitalisation and over 6 times higher odds of deaths after hospitalisation. CONCLUSIONS: Our estimates provide the first comprehensive evidence on the dynamic pollution-health associations throughout the pandemic. The results suggest that age and underlying diseases collectively determines the disparities of pollution-related health effect across population subgroups, underscoring the urgency to identifying the most vulnerable individuals to air pollution.

Intestinal epithelial barrier defects occur commonly during a variety of pathological conditions, though their underlying mechanisms are not completely understood. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) has been shown to be a critical regulator of proliferation and of maintenance of an intact intestinal epithelial barrier, as is also sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1), the rate-limiting enzyme for S1P synthesis. SphK1 has been shown to modulate its effect on intestinal epithelial proliferation through increased levels of c-myc. We conducted genome-wide profile analysis to search for differential microRNA expression related to overexpressed SphK1 demonstrating adjusted expression of microRNA 542-5p (miR-542-5p). Here, we show that miR-542-5p is regulated by SphK1 activity and is an effector of c-myc translation that ultimately serves as a critical regulator of the intestinal epithelial barrier. miR-542-5p directly regulates c-myc translation through direct binding to the c-myc mRNA. Exogenous S1P analogs administered in vivo protect murine intestinal barrier from damage due to mesenteric ischemia reperfusion, and damaged intestinal tissue had increased levels of miR-542-5p. These results indicate that miR-542-5p plays a critical role in the regulation of S1P-mediated intestinal barrier function, and may highlight a novel role in potential therapies.

The solid-state conversion of amorphous carbon into graphene is extremely difficult, but it can be achieved in the friction experiments that induce macroscale superlubricity. However, the underlying conversion mechanisms remain elusive. Here, the friction experiments with Cu nanoparticles and (non-hydrogen (H) or H) a-C in vacuum, show the H-induced conversion of mechanical to chemical wear, resulting in the a-C's tribosoftening and nanofragmentating that produce hydrocarbon nanoclusters or molecules. It is such exactly hydrocarbon species that yield graphene at hydrogen-rich a-C friction interface, through reaction of them with Cu nanoparticles. In comparison, graphene isn't formed at Cu/non-H a-C friction interface. Atomistic simulations reveal the hydrogen-enhanced tribochemical decomposition of a-C and demonstrate the energetically favorable graphitization transformation of hydrocarbons on Cu substrates. The findings are of importance to achieve solid-state transformation between different carbon allotropes and provide a good strategy to synthesize other graphitic encapsulated catalysts with doped elements.

BACKGROUND: Acute respiratory infections in children are a global public health challenge. Owing to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, non-pharmaceutical interventions, including patient isolation, social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing, have been widely implemented, impacting the transmission of common respiratory viruses. The aim of this study was to clarify the epidemiological features of respiratory viruses in children less than 14 years of age in Wuhan before and after COVID-19. METHODS: Respiratory specimens were collected from patients aged < 14 years at two hospitals in Wuhan, China, from January 2018 to December 2021. Seven respiratory viruses were identified using an immunofluorescence assay. Pathogen profiles and seasonality were analysed. RESULTS: The number of visits and virus detection rate decreased dramatically after February 2020. The respiratory virus detection rate peaked in January and December and decreased dramatically in February and August. The detection rate was lower in 2021 than in 2018 and 2019. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was identified as the leading pathogen in children aged < 1 year and 1-4 years before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In children aged 5-14 years, influenza virus was detected at the highest rate before, and RSV after, the COVID-19 pandemic. RSV was the most common virus in coinfections. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed the epidemiological patterns of common respiratory viruses from 2018 to 2021. The spectrum of pathogens involved in paediatric respiratory infections had partly changed. Non-pharmaceutical interventions resulted in fewer opportunities for the spread of common viruses but also in an "immunity debt" that could have negative consequences when the pandemic is under control in Wuhan.

Emerging evidence suggests a resurgence of COVID-19 in the coming years. It is thus critical to optimize emergency response planning from a broad, integrated perspective. We developed a mathematical model incorporating climate-driven variation in community transmissions and movement-modulated spatial diffusions of COVID-19 into various intervention scenarios. We find that an intensive 8-wk intervention targeting the reduction of local transmissibility and international travel is efficient and effective. Practically, we suggest a tiered implementation of this strategy where interventions are first implemented at locations in what we call the Global Intervention Hub, followed by timely interventions in secondary high-risk locations. We argue that thinking globally, categorizing locations in a hub-and-spoke intervention network, and acting locally, applying interventions at high-risk areas, is a functional strategy to avert the tremendous burden that would otherwise be placed on public health and society.

Shuanghuanglian is a common traditional Chinese medicine prescription. It is an herbal formula composed of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, Scutellariae Radix, and Forsythiae Fructus. A comprehensive understanding of Shuanghuanglian oral dosage forms components was obtained using a method based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry for the separation and characterization of Shuanghuanglian oral liquids, granules, soft capsules, and effervescent tablets. A total of 358 components were chemically defined or tentatively identified, including flavonoids, caffeic acid derivatives, lignans, coumarins, iridoids, triterpenes, and anthraquinones. The results will provide a basis for the general study of Shuanghuanglian and be meaningful for the composition identification of traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions.

Dengue is a climate-sensitive mosquito-borne disease with increasing geographic extent and human incidence. Although the climate-epidemic association and outbreak risks have been assessed using both statistical and mathematical models, local mosquito population dynamics have not been incorporated in a unified predictive framework. Here, we use mosquito surveillance data from 2005 to 2015 in China to integrate a generalized additive model of mosquito dynamics with a susceptible-infected-recovered (SIR) compartmental model of viral transmission to establish a predictive model linking climate and seasonal dengue risk. The findings illustrate that spatiotemporal dynamics of dengue are predictable from the local vector dynamics, which in turn, can be predicted by climate conditions. On the basis of the similar epidemiology and transmission cycles, we believe that this integrated approach and the finer mosquito surveillance data provide a framework that can be extended to predict outbreak risk of other mosquito-borne diseases as well as project dengue risk maps for future climate scenarios.

Endometriosis (EMS) is a common gynecological disease. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which induces chronic pelvic inflammation and cell pyroptosis, a form of programmed cell death based on inflammasome activation, are involved in EMS, but the extent of their involvement and roles remain unclear. The present study aimed to evaluate PGE2-induced pyroptosis in EMS and the influence of PGE2 in EMS progression. Using western blotting, it was found that the expressions of PGE2 and pyroptosis-related proteins (NLRP3, cleaved caspase-1, interleukin (IL)-1ß and IL-18) were higher in EMS tissues than in normal endometrial tissues. The levels of PGE2, IL-1ß, and IL-18 in the serum of patients with EMS and cell culture fluids were also detected. Using the transwell assay, we verified that PGE2 promoted hEM15A migration via the NLRP3/caspase-1 pyroptotic pathway, and PGE2-induced pyroptosis upregulated the expressions of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), E-cadherin, and vimentin. Immunohistochemistry analysis confirmed that PGE2-induced pyroptosis contributed to EMS invasion. These results suggest that PGE2-induced pyroptosis affects the progression of EMS by changing the migration ability of pyroptotic cells and upregulating the expression of HMGB1, E-cadherin, and vimentin. Our findings provide crucial evidence for new treatment pathways and use of anti-inflammatory drugs in EMS.

Although previous studies have shown that certain factors interfere with the sensitivity of propofol, the mechanisms for interindividual variability in response to propofol remain unclear. This study aimed to screen the metabolites to predict patients' sensitivity to propofol and to identify metabolic pathways to explore possible mechanisms associated with propofol resistance. Sera from 40 female patients undergoing elective hysteroscopic surgery in a prospective cohort propofol study were obtained before the administration of propofol. The patients' responsiveness to propofol was differentiated based on propofol effect-site concentration. Serum samples from two sets, a discovery set (n = 24) and an independent validation set (n = 16), were analyzed using ultraperformance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry based untargeted metabolomics. In the discovery set, 494 differential metabolites were screened out, and then 391 potential candidate biomarkers with the area under receiver operating characteristic curve >0.80 were selected. Pathway analysis showed that the pathway of glycerophospholipid metabolism was the most influential pathway. In the independent validation set, six potential biomarkers enabled the discrimination of poor responders from good and intermediate responders, which might be applied to predict propofol sensitivity. The success of fascinating graphene has motivated much interest in exploiting new two-dimensional (2D) carbon allotropes with excellent electronic and mechanical properties such as graphdiyne and penta-graphene. However, there are only very few reported structures for stable 2D all-sp3 carbon allotropes. Here, we proposed a new 2D all-sp3 carbon allotrope, named as TTH-carbon. Using first-principles calculations, we investigated its structure, stability, elastic constants, band structure, carrier mobility and optical properties. The results show that it exhibits good stability. Meanwhile, it possesses a total monolayer thickness of 1.35 Šand an indirect band gap of 3.23 eV, comparable to those of well-known penta-graphene (1.20 Šand 3.25 eV). The calculated mechanical and optical properties of TTH-carbon strongly depend on the crystal orientation. The mobilities of electrons and holes along the y direction are ∼3000 cm2 V-1 s-1, which are ten times of its carrier mobilities along the x direction and three times of that of black phosphorus (∼1000 cm2 V-1 s-1). The proposed structure richens the 2D all-sp3 carbon allotropes and its properties make it a promising material for nanoelectronic and photoelectronic devices.

UHPLC combined with Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance MS metabonomic approach was employed to screen the differential components between normal rats and yeast-induced pyrexia rats after an oral administration of Gegenqinlian decoction (GQLD). Nine compounds, namely puerarin, daidzein, baicalin, wogonoside, wogonin, berberine, palmatine, jateorhizine, and coptisine, were identified as differential components in the plasma. A rapid, sensitive, selective, and accurate UHPLC-MS method was developed and fully validated for the simultaneous determination of the screened components in rat plasma after an oral administration of GQLD. The values for the limit of quantification ranged from 0.025 to 5.0 ng/mL. The inter- and intra-day precision of all analytes was ≤10.7%, with an accuracy of ≤10.5%. Good extraction recovery and matrix effects were also obtained. The method was successfully applied to a comparative pharmacokinetic study of GQLD in normal and pyrexia rats. The results showed that the pharmacokinetic behavior of the analytes was changed in pyrexia rats compared to normal rats. These results could provide beneficial guidance for clinical applications of GQLD.

OBJECTIVES: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a devastating lung disease characterized by uncontrolled pulmonary inflammation and oxidative stress. Currently, no effective therapeutic strategies are available for ALI and its prognosis remains poor. The present study aims to investigate the role and potential mechanism of microRNA-30d-5p (miR-30d-5p) in the progression of ALI. METHODS: Mice were intravenously treated with miR-30d-5p agomir, antagomir or their respective controls for 3 consecutive days and then were exposed to a single intratracheal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for 12 h at a dosage of 5 mg/kg to induce ALI. To inhibit adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase α (AMPKα) or phosphodiesterase 4 D (PDE4D), compound C (CpC) and rolipram were used. RESULTS: miR-30d-5p expression in the lungs was significantly inhibited by LPS treatment. miR-30d-5p agomir significantly alleviated, while miR-30d-5p antagomir aggravated pulmonary inflammation, oxidative damage, and dysfunction in ALI mice. Besides, we found that miR-30d-5p agomir ameliorated LPS-induced ALI via activating AMPKα and that the inhibition of AMPKα by CpC completely abolished these beneficial effects of miR-30d-5p agomir. Further findings validated that PDE4D downregulation was required for the activation of AMPKα by miR-30d-5p agomir. CONCLUSION: miR-30d-5p ameliorates LPS-induced ALI via activating AMPKα and it is a valuable therapeutic candidate in the treatment of ALI.

Asthma is a common inflammatory pulmonary disorder involving a diverse array of immune cells such as proinflammatory T helper 2 (Th2) cells. We recently reported that intraperitoneal injection of α-galactosylceramide (α-GalCer) can stimulate the lung invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells and does not lead to airway inflammation in WT mice. Other studies indicate that iNKT cells play an important role in inducing regulatory T cells (Treg cells) and peripheral tolerance. Using iNKT cell- knockout mice, functional inactivation of Treg cells, and co-culture experiments in murine asthma models, we investigated the immunoregulatory effects of α-GalCer treatment before allergen sensitization on Th2 cell responses. We also studied whether α-GalCer's effects require lung Treg cells induced by activated iNKT cells. Our results disclosed that intraperitoneal administration of α-GalCer before allergen sensitization could promote the expansion and suppressive activity of lung CD4+FoxP3+ Treg cells. These effects were accompanied by down-regulated Th2 cell responses and decreased immunogenic maturation of lung dendritic cells in WT mice. However, these changes were absent in CD1d-/- mice immunized and challenged with ovalbumin or house dust mites, indicating that the effects of α-GalCer on Treg cells mainly require iNKT cells. Moreover, functional inactivation of Treg cells could reverse the inhibitory ability of this α-GalCer therapy on Th2 cell responses in a murine asthma model. Our findings indicate that intraperitoneal administration of α-GalCer before the development of asthma symptoms induces the generation of lung Treg cells via iNKT cells and may provide a potential therapeutic strategy to prevent allergic asthma.

The predominance of H5N6 in ducks and continuous human cases have heightened its potential threat to public health in China. Therefore, the detection of emerging variants of H5N6 avian influenza viruses has become a priority for pandemic preparedness. Questions remain as to its origin and circulation within the wild bird reservoir and interactions at the wild-domestic interface. Samples were collected from migratory birds in Poyang Lake, Jiangxi Province, PR China during the routine bird ring survey in 2014-16. Phylogenetic and coalescent analyses were conducted to uncover the evolutionary relationship among viruses circulating in wild birds. Here, we report the potential origin and phylogenetic diversity of H5N6 viruses isolated from wild birds in Poyang Lake. Sequence analyses indicated that Jiangxi H5N6 viruses most likely evolved from Eurasian-derived H5Nx and H6N6 viruses through multiple reassortment events. Crucially, the diversity of the HA gene implies that these Jiangxi H5N6 viruses have diverged into two primary clades - clade 2.3.4.4 and clade 2.3.2.1 c. Phylogenetic analysis revealed two independent pathways of reassortment during 2014-16 that might have facilitated the generation of emerging variants within wild bird populations as well as inter-species infections. Our findings contribute to our understanding of the genetic diversification of H5N6 viruses in the wild bird population. These results highlight the necessity of large-scale surveillance of wild birds in the Poyang Lake area to address the threat of regional epizootic epidemics and attendant pandemics.

Recent reports have showed that a proportion of patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) presented elevated leukocyte count. Clinical data about these patients is scarce. We aimed to evaluate the clinical findings of patients with COVID-19 who have increased leukocyte at admission. We retrospectively collected the clinical data on the 52 patients who have increased leukocyte count at admission from the 619 patients with confirmed COVID-19 who had pneumonia with abnormal features on chest CT scan in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University in Wuhan, China, from February 3 to March 3, 2020. The mean age of the 52 patients with increased leukocyte count was 64.7 (SD 11.4) years, 32 (61.5%) were men and 47 (90.4%) had fever. Compared with the patients with non-increased leukocyte count, the patients with increased leukocyte count were significantly older (P < 0.01), were more likely to have underlying chronic diseases (P < 0.01), more likely to develop critically illness (P < 0.01), more likely to admit to an ICU (P < 0.01), more likely to receive mechanical ventilation (P < 0.01), had higher rate of death (P < 0.01) and the blood levels of neutrophil count and the serum concentrations of CRP and IL-6 were significantly increased, (P < 0.01). The older patients with COVID-19 who had underlying chronic disorders are more likely to develop leukocytosis. These patients are more likely to develop critical illness, with a high admission to an ICU and a high mortality rate.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between climate variables, East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) and large outbreaks of dengue in China. METHODS: We constructed ecological niche models (ENMs) to analyse the influence of climate factors on dengue occurrence and predict dengue outbreak areas in China. Furthermore, we formulated a generalised additive model (GAM) to quantify the impact of the EASM on dengue occurrence in mainland China from 1980 to 2016. RESULTS: Mean Temperature of Coldest Quarter had a 62.6% contribution to dengue outbreaks. Southern China including Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Yunnan provinces are more vulnerable to dengue emergence and resurgence. In addition, we found population density had a 68.7% contribution to dengue widely distribution in China using ENMs. Statistical analysis indicated a dome-shaped association between EASM and dengue outbreak using GAM, with the greatest impact in the South-East of China. Besides, there was a positive nonlinear association between monthly average temperature and dengue occurrence. CONCLUSION: We demonstrated the influence of climate factors and East Asian summer monsoon on dengue outbreaks, providing a framework for future studies on the association between climate change and vector-borne diseases.

To optimize the formulation and preparation process of icaritin-coix seed oil microemulsion(IC-MEs) based on quality by design(QbD) concept. IC-MEs were prepared by water titration. Firstly, the risk factors that may affect the quality of IC-MEs were evaluated. Then Plackett-Burman design was used to screen out prescription factors and process parameters that had a significant effect on the indicators. Finally, Box-Behnken design was used to optimize the prescription ratio of IC-MEs. Through the risk assessment and Plackett-Burman design, three formulation factors [drug loading efficiency, the ratio of mixed-oil(coix seed oil-Glycerol tributyrate) to mixed-surfactant(HS15-RH40) and water addition] were determined as the key factors affecting IC-MEs. The regression model established by Box-Behnken design had a good predictability. The optimal formula was as following: the drug loading efficiency of 0.92%, the ratio of mixed-oil(coix seed oil-glycerol tributyrate) to mixed-surfactant(HS15-RH40) of 4∶6, and the water addition of 5.7 mL. According to this prescription, IC-MEs were prepared, and its encapsulation efficiency after 1 week was 92.45%±1.00%. Therefore, the stability of IC-MEs could be improved by optimizing prescription and process parameters of IC-MEs based on the QbD concept, which can provide certain reference value for the future development of IC-MEs.

Our previous study showed that intraperitoneal injection of α-galactosylceramide (α-GalCer) has the ability to activate lung iNKT cells, but α-GalCer-activated iNKT cells do not result in airway inflammation in wild-type (WT) mice. Many studies showed that iNKT cells had the capacity to induce Treg cells, which gave rise to peripheral tolerance. Therefore, we examined the influence of intraperitoneal administration of α-GalCer on the expansion and suppressive activity of lung Treg cells using iNKT cell-knockout mice and co-culture experiments in vitro. We also compared airway inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) after α-GalCer administration in specific anti-CD25 mAb-treated mice. Our data showed that intraperitoneal injection of α-GalCer could promote the expansion of lung Treg cells in WT mice, but not in iNKT cell-knockout mice. However, α-GalCer administration could not boost suppressive activity of Treg cells in WT mice and iNKT cell-knockout mice. Interestingly, functional inactivation of Treg cells could induce airway inflammation and AHR in WT mice treated with α-GalCer. Furthermore, α-GalCer administration could enhance iNKT cells to secrete IL-2, and neutralization of IL-2 reduced the expansion of Treg cells in vivo and in vitro. Thus, intraperitoneal administration of α-GalCer can induce the generation of lung Treg cells in mice through the release of IL-2 by the activated iNKT cells.
