Nephrotoxicity remains a major adverse reaction of the anticancer drug cisplatin (CDDP) chemotherapy, which is an important risk factor for chronic renal disease. Ginsenoside Rh2 from Panax ginseng has been shown to protect against CDDP-induced nephrotoxicity in vivo, but its pharmacological effect on renal tubular epithelial cells is not clearly understood. This study examined the molecular mechanisms underlying the nephroprotective effects of Rh2 on CDDP-induced HK-2 cells and acute kidney injury (AKI) mice. As a result of Rh2 treatment, CDDP-induced HK-2 cells showed increased cell viability and reduced lactate dehydrogenase release. Moreover, Rh2 ameliorated CDDP-induced mitochondrial membrane potential, increased antioxidant enzyme activities, and reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression to reduce damage. Rh2 inhibited apoptosis and enhanced the antioxidant capacity of HK-2 cells by reducing proteins associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, as well as by attenuating tunicamycin-induced ER stress. In addition, treatment of CDDP-induced AKI mice with Rh2 substantially reduced blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels, attenuated histological damage of kidney. Further, Rh2 also improved kidney function by inhibiting ER stress to support in vitro findings. These results consistently demonstrated that Rh2 protects renal tubular epithelial cells from CDDP-induced nephrotoxicity and apoptosis by restoring ER homeostasis, which might suggest a therapeutic potential and providing new insights into AKI alternative therapies.

OBJECTIVES: The correlations between the incisal guidance angle (IGA) and occlusal plane angles and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) morphology were investigated in adults with skeletal Class II division II malocclusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: CBCT images of 37 patients were analyzed. It included 19 cases of skeletal Class II division II malocclusion with low angle (study group) and 18 cases of skeletal Class I average angle (control group). The Invivo Dental 5 software was employed to acquire the data of the incisal guidance angle (IGA), occlusal plane angle (FH-OP), anterior occlusal plane angle (FH-AOP) and the TMJ measurement items. RESULTS: The results of IGA, FH-AOP angle and FH-OP angle showed the study group > the control group (P < 0.05). There were statistically difference in the condylar mediolateral diameters, articular eminence inclination and height, and posterior joint spaces between two groups. No differences were revealed in the condylar anteroposterior diameters, the condylar inclination angle, condylar head width and height, condylar length, glenoid fossa depth and width between two groups. In the study group, IGA showed a moderate correlation with FH-AOP, a weak correlation with FH-OP and condylar mediolateral diameters. Meanwhile, there was a correlation between FH-AOP, FH-OP, and TMJ indicators. CONCLUSIONS: The IGA was not only related to FH-AOP and FH-OP, but also to the condylar mediolateral diameters. In addition, there was a correlation between the occlusal plane angles and TMJ morphology in skeletal Class II division II low angle malocclusion. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: For patients with skeletal Class II division II low angle malocclusion, adjusting the IGA and the occlusal plane angles could improve the esthetic appearance of the anterior teeth, occlusal function, and TMJ morphology.

Rabies continues to be a huge threat to public health. The rabies virus envelope glycoprotein (RABV G) is a major rabies virus antigen and contains neutralizing epitopes, which are primary candidates for subunit vaccines and diagnostic antigens. However, the production and purification of rRABV G while retaining its antigenic and immunogenic remains to be a challenge. Here, we aimed to establish a platform for rRABV G production and purification, and determine the immunogenicity and antigenicity of rRABV G. The cDNA fragment encoding the soluble form of RABV G was synthesized and cloned into a lentiviral expressing vector. Recombinant lentiviral vector LV-CMV-RABV G-eGFP was packaged, titered, and then transduced into HEK 293T cells. The cell culture supernatant was purified using nickel affinity chromatography and subsequently confirmed through Western Blot analysis and indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The ELISA utilized human sera obtained from individuals who had been vaccinated with the human commercial Purified Vero Cells Rabies Vaccine (PVRV). Notably, we observed a neutralizing antibody response in immunized pigs rather than in mice. This discrepancy could potentially be attributed to factors such as the instability of the rRABV G protein, variations in host responses, and variances in the adjuvant used. Taking all these findings into account, the rRABV G protein generated in this study exhibits promise as a potential vaccine candidate for the prevention of rabies.

Benzene poisoning can cause acute myeloid leukemia (AML) through a variety of passways. Tim-3 has gained prominence as a potential candidate in mediating immunosuppression in tumor microenvironments. The macrophage polarization is also related to immune escape. Herein, we reported that Tim-3 and macrophage M2 polarization play a vital role in benzene-induced AML. First, the benzene-induced AML C3H/He mouse model was constructed by subcutaneously injecting 250 mg/kg of benzene. After six months, macrophage phenotype, cytokines, and Tim-3 expression levels were investigated. Flow cytometry assay revealed that the T-cell inhibitory receptor Tim-3 was significantly upregulated in both bone marrow and spleen of the benzene-induced AML mouse model. Elisa's results displayed a decreased serum level of IL-12 while increased TGF-ß1. Mechanistically, changes in cytokine secretion promote the growth of M2-type macrophages in the bone marrow and spleen, as determined by immunofluorescence assay. The increased levels of PI3K, AKT, and mTOR in the benzene-exposure group further proved the crucial role of Tim-3 in regulating the functional status of macrophages in the AML microenvironment. These results demonstrate that Tim-3 and macrophage polarization may play a vital role during the immune escape of the benzene-induced AML. This study provides a new potential intervention site for immune checkpoint-based AML therapeutic strategy.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to identify the risk factors of external root resorption (ERR) on second molar (M2) due to presence of impacted third (M3) molar based on cone- beam computerised tomography (CBCT) findings. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Search of PubMed via MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and Experta Medical dataBASE (EMBASE) was performed to identify studies assessing the risk factors of ERR in M2 due to the presence of impacted M3. RESULTS: M2 in close proximity to mesio-angular impacted M3 had 50% higher risk of root resorption than with vertical impacted M3 (RR 0.50 95% CI [0.35, 0.73], p = .0003). Presence of the impacted M3 in the lower arch with ERR in M2 was higher (38.3%) than in the upper arch (33.8%). With respect to the inclination of impacted M3, the incidence of ERR was higher with transverse, horizontal and mesio-angular impacted M3 with 54.5%, 47.5% and 44.5% of occurrence, respectively. CONCLUSION: ERR in M2 was significantly affected by the contact with impacted M3 and most importantly, the inclination of M3. The presence of mesio-angular, horizontal or transverse impacted M3 in close proximity to apical or middle portion of M2 could possibly be a strong risk factor for ERR in M2.

Blockchain technology is a distributed ledger technology and is expected to face some difficulties and challenges in various industries due to its transparency, decentralization, tamper-proof nature, and encryption security. Food safety has been paid increasing attention in recent years with economic development. Based on a systematic literature critical analysis, the causes of food safety problems and the state-of-the-art blockchain technology overview, including the definition of blockchain, development history, classification, structure, characteristics, and main applications, the feasibility and application prospects of blockchain technology in plant food safety, animal food safety, and processed food safety were proposed in this review. Finally, the challenges of the blockchain technology itself and the difficulties in the application of food safety were analyzed. This study contributes to the extant literature in the field of food safety by discovering the excellent potential of blockchain technology and its implications for food safety control. Our results indicated that blockchain is a promising technology toward a food safety control, with many ongoing initiatives in food products, but many food-related issues, barriers, and challenges still exist. Nevertheless, it is expected to provide a feasible solution for controlling food safety risks.

Spiroaxillarone A, a novel and unique spirocyclic dinaphthalene natural product with significant antimalarial activity, was regioselectively synthesized from tetrahydrocurcumin in five steps with an overall 10% yield. Key features of the synthesis involved an oxidized free radical cycloaddition to build the spiro ring central skeleton and an oxidized dehydrogenation to introduce two double bonds via enol silicon ether from diketones.

RESUMO

Pesticide residues in food matrices, threatening the survival and development of humanity, is one of the critical challenges worldwide. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) possess excellent properties, which include excellent adsorption capacity, tailorable shape and size, hierarchical structure, numerous surface-active sites, high specific surface areas, high chemical stabilities, and ease of modification and functionalization. These promising properties render MOFs as advantageous porous materials for the extraction and detection of pesticides in food samples. This review is based on a brief introduction of MOFs and highlights recent advances in pesticide extraction and detection through MOFs. Furthermore, the challenges and prospects in this field are also described.

Background: Autophagy-related gene 7 (ATG7) plays a key role in autophagy and is strongly implicated in Parkinson's disease (PD). This study investigated the associations of rs1375206 polymorphism in ATG7 gene promoter and plasma ATG7 levels with late-onset sporadic PD in a cohort of Han Chinese from southern China.Methods: Variant genotypes were identified using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism and gene sequencing in 124 patients with late-onset sporadic PD, as well as in 105 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Plasma ATG7 levels were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results: No significant differences in genotype distributions were found between the two groups. Stratification analyses by sex and clinical motor subtypes revealed that the differences remained non-significant in each subgroup (all p > 0.05). Plasma ATG7 protein levels were significantly higher in the PD group than in the control group (p = 0.000). Haplotype analysis demonstrated that the A-T haplotype was significantly associated with late-onset sporadic PD (p = 0.045).Conclusion: Our study suggests that the rs1375206 polymorphism in ATG7 may not be associated with late-onset sporadic PD; however, high plasma ATG7 levels and the A-T haplotype may be associated with susceptibility to late-onset sporadic PD in the Han population from Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces.

AIMS: The aims of the present study were: a) to investigate the current state of postpartum glucose screening in rural China; and b) to explore the factors influencing postpartum blood glucose screening among women with prior GDM based on Andersen's behavioural model of health service use. DESIGN: A multisite, cross-sectional study design, conducted from November 2017 to January 2018. METHODS: A total of 465 women with prior GDM were included from two county-level hospitals in rural China. The potential influencing factors for postpartum blood glucose screening based on Andersen's behavioural model, including predisposing, enabling, and need factors, were collected by self-reported questionnaires. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used to explore the influence of these factors on whether screening of blood glucose level after delivery occurred. RESULTS: The mean age of the women was 31.92 years old (SD 5.16) and the mean time after delivery was 16.73 months (SD 15.07). The postpartum glucose screening proportion was 32.7%. Women who did not have a full-time job (p= .011) (predisposing factor), had not received any treatment for GDM (p= .002), and were not informed about screening plans for diabetes by health professionals (p < .001) (enabling factor) were less likely to engage in postpartum glucose screening. The need factor, high actual risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), was not associated with postpartum blood glucose screening (p> .05). CONCLUSIONS: In rural China, most women with prior GDM were not screened for T2DM after delivery. The women with prior GDM who did not have a full-time job or had not received any prior treatment for GDM should be the target population for health education on postpartum glucose screening. IMPACT: There is a need for data on postpartum blood glucose testing rates among rural women. Future interventions aimed at increasing postpartum blood glucose screening are needed.

Although broad knowledge of influenza viral pneumonia has been established, the significance of non-influenza respiratory viruses in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and their impact on clinical outcomes remains unclear, especially in the non-immunocompromised adult population.Hospitalised immunocompetent patients with CAP were prospectively recruited from 34 hospitals in mainland China. Respiratory viruses were detected by molecular methods. Comparisons were conducted between influenza and non-influenza viral infection groups.In total, 915 out of 2336 adult patients with viral infection were enrolled in the analysis, with influenza virus (28.4%) the most frequently detected virus, followed by respiratory syncytial virus (3.6%), adenovirus (3.3%), human coronavirus (3.0%), parainfluenza virus (2.2%), human rhinovirus (1.8%) and human metapneumovirus (1.5%). Non-influenza viral infections accounted for 27.4% of viral pneumonia. Consolidation was more frequently observed in patients with adenovirus infection. The occurrence of complications such as sepsis (40.1% versus 39.6%; p=0.890) and hypoxaemia (40.1% versus 37.2%; p=0.449) during hospitalisation in the influenza viral infection group did not differ from that of the non-influenza viral infection group. Compared with influenza virus infection, the multivariable adjusted odds ratios of CURB-65 (confusion, urea >7 mmol·L-1, respiratory rate ≥30 breaths·min-1, blood pressure <90 mmHg (systolic) or ≤60 mmHg (diastolic), age ≥65 years) ≥3, arterial oxygen tension/inspiratory oxygen fraction <200 mmHg, and occurrence of sepsis and hypoxaemia for non-influenza respiratory virus infection were 0.87 (95% CI 0.26-2.84), 0.72 (95% CI 0.26-1.98), 1.00 (95% CI 0.63-1.58) and 1.05 (95% CI 0.66-1.65), respectively. The hazard ratio of 90-day mortality was 0.51 (95% CI 0.13-1.91).The high incidence of complications in non-influenza viral pneumonia and similar impact of non-influenza respiratory viruses relative to influenza virus on disease severity and outcomes suggest more attention should be given to CAP caused by non-influenza respiratory viruses.

BACKGROUND: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world. Acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) not only accelerates the progression of disease, but also causes hospital administration and death events. Epidemiologic studies have shown air pollution is a high risk factor of AECOPD. However, there are rare technics or treatment strategies recommended to reduce severe air pollution related AECOPD. METHODS: This is a multi-center, prospective, randomized and standard treatment parallel control clinical trial. Seven hundred sixty-four stable COPD patients in group B, C and D according to GOLD 2017 will be recruited and equally divided into two parallel groups, salvational intervention (SI group) and control group (CT group). Original treatments for participants include tiotropium (18µg once q.d), budesonide/formoterol (160µg/4.5µg once or twice b.i.d) or budesonide/formoterol (160µg/4.5µg once or twice b.i.d) with tiotropium (18µg once q.d). The savational intervention for SI group is routine treatment plus budesonide/formoterol (160µg/4.5µg once b.i.d) from the first day after severe air pollution (air quality index, AQI ≥200) to the third day after AQI < 200. CT group will maintain the original treatment. The intervention will last for 2 years. Primary outcome is the frequency of AECOPD per year and the secondary outcomes include the incidence of unplanned outpatient visits, emergency visits, hospitalization, medical cost and mortality associated with AECOPD per year. DISCUSSION: The salvational intervention is a novel strategy for COPD management under severe air pollution. Results of the present study will provide reference information to guide clinical practice in reducing the air pollution related exacerbation of COPD. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study has been registered at www.ClinicalTrials.gov (registration identifier: NCT03083067 ) in 17 March, 2017.

BACKGROUND: To provide the scientific evidence for a possible new mechanism of hypolipidemic effects of gallic acid (GA) and tannic acid (TA), the binding capacity of GA and TA with blood lipid level-related biological molecules, including fat, cholesterol and cholates, were investigated in vitro. Additionally, we attempted to study the interactions of cholates with GA and TA by spectroscopic methods, high-performance liquid chromatography electrospray-ionization mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS) analysis and molecular modeling studies. RESULTS: Our results demonstrated that both GA and TA were capable of binding with the blood lipid level-related biological molecules in vitro. The fat-binding capacity of TA was 122.1% that of GA when the addition of polyphenol was 90 mg. The inhibitory effects of GA and TA on the cholesterol solubility in mixed micelles and liquid egg yolk exhibited a dose-dependent relationship (0.5-2.0 mg mL-1 ). In cholate-binding tests, TA showed higher affinity for sodium cholate than GA at a concentration of 2.0 mg mL-1 , while no significant difference in the affinity for sodium deoxycholate was found between GA and TA. Moreover, the data of spectroscopic methods, HPLC-ESI-MS analysis and molecular modeling studies indicated that GA and TA might precipitate cholates through hydrophobic interactions and intermolecular hydrogen bonds rather than covalent bonds. CONCLUSION: The findings of the present study suggested that the binding capacity of GA and TA with blood lipid level-related biological molecules might play a crucial role in their hypolipidemic effects in animals. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

Thaumatin-like protein from banana (designated BanTLP) has been purified by employing a simple protocol consisting of diethylaminoethyl Sephadex (DEAE⁻Sephadex) chromatography, gel filtration on Sephadex G50, and reversed-phase chromatography. The purified protein was identified by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, with an estimated molecular weight of 22.1 kDa. BanTLP effectively inhibited in vitro spore germination of Penicillium expansum, one of the main postharvest pathogens in fruits. This study further investigated the antifungal properties and underlying mechanisms of BanTLP against P. expansum. Results demonstrated that BanTLP exhibited antifungal activity in a wide pH range (4.0⁻10.0) at 20⁻50 °C. Propidium iodide (PI) influx and potassium release confirmed that BanTLP induced membrane disruption of the test pathogen, increasing the membrane permeability and disintegration of the cell. This led to cell death, as evidenced by the assays of thiobarbituric acid-reactive species (TBARS) content, the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) fluorescence integrity. Ultrastructural alterations in P. expansum conidia after BanTLP treatment revealed severe damage to the cell wall. These results suggest that BanTLP purified from banana exerts antifungal activity against P. expansum by inducing plasma membrane disturbance and cell wall disorganization.

BACKGROUND: Most of the modern motorized prostheses are controlled with the surface electromyography (sEMG) recorded on the residual muscles of amputated limbs. However, the residual muscles are usually limited, especially after above-elbow amputations, which would not provide enough sEMG for the control of prostheses with multiple degrees of freedom. Signal fusion is a possible approach to solve the problem of insufficient control commands, where some non-EMG signals are combined with sEMG signals to provide sufficient information for motion intension decoding. In this study, a motion-classification method that combines sEMG and electroencephalography (EEG) signals were proposed and investigated, in order to improve the control performance of upper-limb prostheses. METHODS: Four transhumeral amputees without any form of neurological disease were recruited in the experiments. Five motion classes including hand-open, hand-close, wrist-pronation, wrist-supination, and no-movement were specified. During the motion performances, sEMG and EEG signals were simultaneously acquired from the skin surface and scalp of the amputees, respectively. The two types of signals were independently preprocessed and then combined as a parallel control input. Four time-domain features were extracted and fed into a classifier trained by the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) algorithm for motion recognition. In addition, channel selections were performed by using the Sequential Forward Selection (SFS) algorithm to optimize the performance of the proposed method. RESULTS: The classification performance achieved by the fusion of sEMG and EEG signals was significantly better than that obtained by single signal source of either sEMG or EEG. An increment of more than 14% in classification accuracy was achieved when using a combination of 32-channel sEMG and 64-channel EEG. Furthermore, based on the SFS algorithm, two optimized electrode arrangements (10-channel sEMG + 10-channel EEG, 10-channel sEMG + 20-channel EEG) were obtained with classification accuracies of 84.2 and 87.0%, respectively, which were about 7.2 and 10% higher than the accuracy by using only 32-channel sEMG input. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated the feasibility of fusing sEMG and EEG signals towards improving motion classification accuracy for above-elbow amputees, which might enhance the control performances of multifunctional myoelectric prostheses in clinical application. To control multiple degrees of freedom (MDoF) upper limb prostheses, pattern recognition (PR) of electromyogram (EMG) signals has been successfully applied. This technique requires amputees to provide sufficient EMG signals to decode their limb movement intentions (LMIs). However, amputees with neuromuscular disorder/high level amputation often cannot provide sufficient EMG control signals, and thus the applicability of the EMG-PR technique is limited especially to this category of amputees. As an alternative approach, electroencephalograph (EEG) signals recorded non-invasively from the brain have been utilized to decode the LMIs of humans. However, most of the existing EEG based limb movement decoding methods primarily focus on identifying limited classes of upper limb movements. In addition, investigation on EEG feature extraction methods for the decoding of multiple classes of LMIs has rarely been considered. Therefore, 32 EEG feature extraction methods (including 12 spectral domain descriptors (SDDs) and 20 time domain descriptors (TDDs)) were used to decode multiple classes of motor imagery patterns associated with different upper limb movements based on 64-channel EEG recordings. From the obtained experimental results, the best individual TDD achieved an accuracy of 67.05 ± 3.12% as against 87.03 ± 2.26% for the best SDD. By applying a linear feature combination technique, an optimal set of combined TDDs recorded an average accuracy of 90.68% while that of the SDDs achieved an accuracy of 99.55% which were significantly higher than those of the individual TDD and SDD at p < 0.05. Our findings suggest that optimal feature set combination would yield a relatively high decoding accuracy that may improve the clinical robustness of MDoF neuroprosthesis. BACKGROUND: The aim of the study is to compare the profiles of antibodies (IgM and IgG) against oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) of hematological diseases. METHODS: The serum antibodies of oxLDL-IgM and oxLDL-IgG for 446 cases with hematological diseases and 90 patients with primary hypertension and 90 healthy controls were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a cross-section survey. The association of serum oxLDL-LgM and oxLDL-IgG with hematological diseases was analyzed by multiple linear regression model. RESULTS: Comparing with the hypertension or normal groups, the levels of TCH, TG, LDL-c, HDL-c, oxLDL, and oxLDL-IgG were lower and the levels of ADP and oxLDL-IgM were higher in the hematological diseases group. The levels of oxLDL-IgG antibodies titer were different among hematological diseases group. The results of correlation and multiple regression analysis showed that the seven hematological disease subgroups were positively related to the oxLDL-IgM antibody titer but negatively related to the oxLDL-IgG antibody titer, having been adjusted for potential confounding factors such as age, SBP, DBP, BMI, TCH, TG, ADP, oxLDL, HDL-c, LDL-C. CONCLUSIONS: Here we show that oxLDL-IgG antibodies titer were lower and of oxLDL-IgM titer were higher than hypertension and healthy individuals. Also oxLDL-IgG titer were different among hematological diseases group.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether periodontal treatment in patients with periodontitis and hyperlipidemia may have any influence on plasma lipids and pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We randomly assigned 109 patients with hyperlipidemia and chronic periodontitis into group 1 (n = 55) and group 2 (n = 54). Patients in group 1 underwent a standard cycle of supragingival mechanical scaling and polishing. Patients in group 2 underwent the adjunctive full-mouth intensive removal of subgingival dental plaque biofilms with the use of scaling and root planning. Periodontal parameters, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TRG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin(IL)-1ß(IL-1ß), and IL-6 were evaluated before treatment and 2 and 6 months after treatment. RESULTS: Two and 6 months after treatment, TRG levels were significantly lower in group 2 than in group 1 (P < 0.05), and the levels of HDL-C were significantly higher (P < 0.05). Two and 6 months after therapy, the levels of TNF-α were significantly lower in group 2 than in group 1 (P < 0.05), as were the levels of IL-1ß (P < 0.001) and IL-6 (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Intensive periodontal treatment of participants with hyperlipidemia and chronic periodontitis improved serum lipid levels and decreased circulating pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This study showed that intensive treatment of periodontitis results in an improvement in serum lipid levels and a decrease in serum proinflammatory cytokine levels in patients with periodontitis and hyperlipidemia. These findings may contribute to present knowledge that periodontal therapy may be beneficial for individuals with hyperlipidemia.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the safety of implantation permanent pacemaker (PM) at different times in patients with dual antiplatelet (DAPT) therapy after implantation of drug-eluting stent (DES). METHODS: A total of 105 patients who implanted pacemakers with DAPT therapy (clopidogrel and aspirin) after implantation of DES admitted to our hospital from January 2009 to January 2015 were enrolled in the study. The patients were divided into 3 groups: dual antiplatelet therapy (DAP) group: implanting PM within 3 months after coronary stenting, continuous DAPT during perioperative period; low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) bridging group: implanting PM within 3 to 6 months after coronary stenting, DAPT interruption for 5 days replaced with subcutaneous injection of enoxaparin (1 mg/kg), twice per day, enoxaparin was stopped 12 h before operation; asprin group, implanting PM after coronary stenting 6 months, clopidogrel interruption for 5 days. Oral DAPT was returned 12-24 after operation according to the patients' condition. Peri-operative cardiovascular events and bleedings, infections were observed. RESULTS: There was no major adverse cardiac event (MACE) and pouch infection were observed among 3 groups in perioperation. The incidence of pocket hemorrhage and errhysis in bridging group was significantly higher than that of DAP group and asprin group (16.7%, 8.0%, 0.0% χ(2)=10.431, P=0.005 and 29.2%, 12.0%, 7.1% χ(2)=6.321, P=0.042 respectively). 3 patients had severe bleeding (12.5%, 3/24) in bridging group; compared with the other 2 groups, there were significant difference (χ(2)=9.161, P=0.010). The incidence of hematoma and hemorrhage of asprin group was lowest. CONCLUSIONS: LMWH bridging therapy significantly increases the risk of pacemaker pocket hematoma and hemorrhage, and the pacemaker implantation may be safer after DES implantation 6 months.

PURPOSE: To retrospectively assess the changes of the vertical height of the maxillary sinus floor after augmentation with simultaneous and delayed placement of implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In total, 38 patients with 76 implants were involved; vertical bone height of the sinus floor was radiographically measured at different stages including preoperation, immediately postsurgery, 6 and 12 months postsurgery, and 6 and 24 months postfunctional loading. RESULTS: Sinus augmentation significantly increased vertical bone height of the sinus floor for both the simultaneous and delayed groups. The survival rate was 100% in the simultaneous group and 95.46% in the delayed group. For simultaneous placement, the vertical bone height of the sinus floor at 6 and 12 months postsurgery was significantly less than that immediately postsurgery. For both groups, augmented bone height of the sinus floor showed significant decrease from 6 months to 24 months postfunctional loading. The mean value of final bone augmentation was 5.85 mm for simultaneous placement and 5.80 mm for delayed placements. CONCLUSION: Sinus augmentation with simultaneous and delayed placement of implants led to similar survival rates and bone augmentation. Resorption of augmentative bone was evident at 24 months postfunctional loading in both cases.
