BACKGROUND: Infratentorial craniotomy patients have a high incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols have been shown in multiple surgical disciplines to improve outcomes, including reduced PONV. However, very few studies have described the application of ERAS to infratentorial craniotomy. The aim of this study was to examine whether our ERAS protocol for infratentorial craniotomy could improve PONV. METHODS: We implemented an evidence-based, multimodal ERAS protocol for patients undergoing infratentorial craniotomy. A total of 105 patients who underwent infratentorial craniotomy were randomized into either the ERAS group (n = 50) or the control group (n = 55). Primary outcomes were the incidence of vomiting, nausea score, and use of rescue antiemetic during the first 72 h after surgery. Secondary outcomes included postoperative anxiety level, sleep quality, and complications. RESULTS: Over the entire 72 h post-craniotomy observation period, the cumulative incidence of vomiting was significantly lower in the ERAS group than in the control group. Meanwhile, the incidence of vomiting was significantly lower in the ERAS group on postoperative days (PODs) 2 and 3. Notably, the proportion of patients with mild nausea (VAS 0-4) was higher in the ERAS group as compared to the control group on PODs 2 or 3. Additionally, the postoperative anxiety level and quality of sleep were significantly better in the ERAS group. CONCLUSION: Successful implementation of our ERAS protocol in infratentorial craniotomy patients could attenuate postoperative anxiety, improve sleep quality, and reduce the incidence of PONV, without increasing the rate of postoperative complications. Objective: To prospectively evaluate the efficacy of a neurosurgical enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol on the management of postoperative pain after elective craniotomies. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted in the neurosurgical center of Tangdu Hospital (Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, China). A total of 129 patients undergoing craniotomies between October 2016 and July 2017 were enrolled in a randomized clinical trial comparing an ERAS protocol to a conventional postoperative care regimen. The primary outcome was the postoperative pain score assessed by a verbal numerical rating scale (NRS). Results: Patients in the ERAS group had a significant reduction in their postoperative pain scores on POD 1 compared to patients in the control group (p < 0.05). More patients (n = 44, 68.8%) in the ERAS group experienced mild pain (NRS: 1 to 3) on POD1 compared with patients (n = 23, 35.4%) in the control group (p < 0.05). A further reduction in pain scores was also observed on POD 2 and maintained on POD 3 in the ERAS group compared with that in the control group. In addition, the median postoperative length of hospital stay was significantly decreased with the incorporation of the ERAS protocol compared to controls (ERAS: 4 days, control: 7 days, P<0.001). Conclusion: The implementation of a neurosurgical ERAS protocol for elective craniotomy patients has significant benefits in alleviating postoperative pain and enhancing recovery leading to early discharge after surgery compared to conventional care. Further evaluation of this protocol in larger, multi-center studies is warranted.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that affects exocrine glands. To study the molecular mechanism and identify crucial genes/pathways in pSS pathogenesis, the microarray-based whole-genome gene expression profiles from salivary glands of patients with pSS and non-sicca controls were retrieved. After normalization and subsequent batch effect adjustment, significance analysis of microarrays method was applied to five available datasets, and 379 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. The 300 upregulated DEGs were enriched in Gene Ontology terms of immune and inflammatory responses, including antigen processing and presentation, interferon-mediated signaling pathway, and chemotaxis. Previously reported pSS-associated genes, including HLA-DRA, TAP2, PRDM1, and IFI16, were found to be significantly upregulated. The downregulated DEGs were enriched in pathways of salivary secretion, carbohydrate digestion and absorption, and starch and sucrose metabolism, implying dysfunction of salivary glands during pathogenesis. Next, a protein-protein interaction network was constructed, and B2M, an upregulated DEG, was shown to be a hub, suggesting its potential involvement in pSS development. In summary, we found the activation of pSS-associated genes in pathogenesis, and provide clues for salivary glands dysfunction. Experimental investigation on the identified DEGs in this study will deepen our understanding on pSS.

OBJECTIVE: Increasing evidence suggests that leptin is upregulated during allergic reactions in the airway and related to the severity of disease in allergic rhinitis (AR). In this study, we aimed to investigate the expression of leptin during sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) in AR patients. METHODS: Forty AR patients without obesity were recruited in this study. Twenty patients received house dust mite (HDM) allergen extract for SLIT and twenty patients received placebo randomly. Protein expression of leptin in serum and nasal lavage was tested by enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay (ELISA) 1 and 2 years after SLIT treatment, respectively. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and human nasal epithelial cell were prepared and stimulated by recombinant leptin after 24 months' SLIT treatment and the induction of Th2 cytokines (IL-4/IL-5/IL-13) were detected by ELISA. RESULTS: SLIT treatment decreased the expression of leptin protein in serum and nasal lavage significantly compared with placebo group 1 and 2 years after SLIT treatment. Nasal leptin level was correlated to decreased Th2 response (IL-4/IL-5/IL-13) and enhanced Treg (IL-10/TGF-beat) response after 2 years' SLIT. We also found that SLIT decreased the ability of leptin in promoting Th2 cytokines expression by PBMCs and human nasal epithelial cell after 2 years' SLIT treatment. CONCLUSION: Changes of leptin expression in serum and nasal lavage may be correlated with Th2/Treg regulation during SLIT. Our results suggested that leptin served as an important biomarker during SLIT.

The variable lymphocyte receptors (VLRs) are found in jawless vertebrates (agnathans), and specifically recognize bacteria and viruses via their leucine-rich repeats (LRRs). VLRs are believed to be adaptive immune response molecules. Echinoderms do not have adaptive immune systems; however, in the present study, a VLR cDNA named Aj-VLRA was cloned and characterized from sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus. The complete cDNA of Aj-VLRA was 3072 bp, including a 1995 bp open reading frame encoding 664 amino acids comprising LRR domains, a predicted transmembrane helix and an N-terminal signal peptide. As determined by quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, Aj-VLRA transcripts are ubiquitously expressed in the body wall, longitudinal muscles, intestine and respiratory tree of A. japonicus. The expression level of Aj-VLRA was upregulated after challenge with four common marine bacteria. In situ hybridization showed that the expression of Aj-VLRA was widely distributed in the four tissues, particularly in the cytoplasm of epidermal cells. Recombinantly expressed Aj-VLRA (including the LRR domains) could bind to bacteria including Micrococcus lysodeikticus (Gram+) and Vibrio anguillarum (Gram-). Collectively, the results suggested that Aj-VLRA is related to an innate immune response of A. japonicus.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex syndrome with many elements, such as chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, loss of dopaminergic neurons, build-up of alpha-synuclein (α-syn) in cells, and energy depletion in neurons, that drive the disease. We and others have shown that treatment with mimetics of the growth factor glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) can normalize energy utilization, neuronal survival, and dopamine levels and reduce inflammation. Liraglutide is a GLP-1 analogue that recently showed protective effects in phase 2 clinical trials in PD patients and in Alzheimer disease patients. We have developed a novel dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist that can cross the blood-brain barrier and showed good protective effects in animal models of PD. Here, we test liraglutide against the dual GLP-1/GIP agonist DA5-CH (KP405) in the A53T tg mouse model of PD which expresses a human-mutated gene of α-synuclein. Drug treatment reduced impairments in three different motor tests, reduced levels of α-syn in the substantia nigra, reduced the inflammation response and proinflammatory cytokine levels in the substantia nigra and striatum, and normalized biomarker levels of autophagy and mitochondrial activities in A53T mice. DA5-CH was superior in almost all parameters measured and therefore may be a better drug treatment for PD than liraglutide.

Brand image assessment is a key step to reasonably quantify the value of a brand and has far-reaching significance for improving the competitiveness of an enterprise. With the rapid development of Internet technology, traditional questionnaires can no longer meet the current needs of brand image assessment. In this environment, the huge amount of fragmented consumer topic data provides a rich data resource and new research ideas for brand image assessment. Therefore, a brand image assessment method based on consumer sentiment analysis is proposed. First, a topic-based brand image cognitive label extraction method is proposed by setting language rules, aggregation rules, and ranking rules according to the characteristics of online topic data. Then, the fusion of cognitive labels and deep features is performed by fusing the deep features extracted from word vectors. Finally, a supervised learning support vector machine is selected as the sentiment classification model. The experimental results show that based on the obtained important cognitive labels, enterprises are able to better understand the unique attributes that consumers have for the brand; the feature fusion approach is better evaluated and can accurately reflect consumers' views on brand image and quantified as brand score.

In the present era, organizations are trying to get success in the market by creating a competitive advantage; however, it has been argued in the literature that the fashion of creating competitive advantage through tangible resources is now gaining unpopularity among organizations and there is a shift toward human capital for organizational competitiveness. This study has made an attempt toward this focus and investigated the phenomenon of employee brand-based equity. For this purpose, data have been collected from the manufacturing sector through personally administrated questionnaires. In total, 400 questionnaires were floated. After discarding the partially filled questionnaires, 325 questionnaires were left, which were later analyzed on the basis of the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach by assessing the measurement model and structural model. The outcome of this study revealed that psychological attachment, internal communication, and employee organization fit bring positive change in employee attitudes and it promotes employee brand-based equity. Similarly, it has also been proved that employee empowerment also plays a mediating role.

Background: Lung cancer is a common clinical thoracic malignant tumor, which had a serious impact on the safety of patients, currently ranking first in all malignant tumors in morbidity and mortality, with generally less than 5% survival rate in 5 years. Objective: To investigate the relationship and significance between carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and precursor gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) changing levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and CT imaging features in patients with peripheral lung cancer. Methods: A total of 90 patients diagnosed with peripheral lung cancer as the lung cancer group and 60 patients with benign lung diseases as the control group in our hospital from May 2019 to October 2021 were selected to compare the differences of CEA and ProGRP in BALF by the classification of CT features. Results: The levels of CEA and ProGRP in the BALF of the lung cancer group were significantly higher than those of the control group; the proportion of patients with lobulation sign, burr sign, ground glass sign, pleural effusion, and lesion diameter ≥ 3.0 cm in the lung cancer group was higher than that in the control group; the CEA level in BALF of lung cancer patients with spicule sign, pleural effusion, and lesion diameter ≥ 3.0 cm was significantly higher than that without these symptoms, while ProGRP level in the BALF of lung cancer patients with lobulation sign, burr sign, ground glass sign, pleural effusion, and lesion diameter ≥ 3.0 cm was significantly higher than that of lung cancer patients without these symptoms. Conclusion: The check of CEA and ProGRP in BALF in combination with CT features has a certain clinical value for the diagnosis of lung cancer. At the same time, the increased levels of CEA and ProGRP in BALF have a certain correlation with the changes of malignant signs of lung cancer in CT examination.

The development of an effective pharmacological countermeasure is needed to reduce the morbidity and mortality in high-dose ionizing radiation-induced acute damage. Genistein has shown bioactivity in alleviating radiation damage and is currently synthesized by chemosynthetic methods. Due to concerns about chemical residues and high costs, the clinical application of genistein is still a major challenge. In this study, we aimed to establish an efficient method for the extraction of genistein from Fructus sophorae. The effects of extracted genistein (FSGen) on preventing intestinal injury from radiation were further investigated in this study. C57/BL mice were exposed to 7.5 Gy whole body irradiation with and without FSGen treatments. Histological analysis demonstrated significant structural and functional restitution of the intestine and bone marrow in FSGen-pretreated cohorts after irradiation. Through mRNA expression, protein expression, and small interfering RNA analyses, we demonstrated that FSGen protects IEC-6 cells against radiation damage by upregulating the Rassf1a and Ercc1 genes to effectively attenuate DNA irradiation damage. Together, our data established an effective method to extract genistein from the Fructus sophorae plant with high purity, and validated the beneficial roles of the FSGen in protecting the radiation damage. These results promise the future applications of Fructus sophorae extracted genistein in the protection of radiation related damages.

Endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal resection has been accepted as a routine therapy for pituitary adenoma, but the postoperative hospital stay is typically several days long. With the advantages of reduced cost and improved patient satisfaction, the application of ambulatory surgery (AS) has developed rapidly. However, AS was still rarely adopted in neurosurgery. Here we designed an AS treatment protocol for pituitary adenoma with the endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA), and reported our initial experiences regarding the safety and efficacy of the AS protocol. 63 patients who presented with pituitary adenoma were screened at the Department of Neurosurgery, Tangdu Hospital from July to September, 2017. A total of 20 pituitary adenoma patients who met the inclusion criteria underwent EEA surgery using this evidence-based AS protocol, which emphasized adequate assessment for eligibility, full preparation to minimize invasiveness, enhanced recovery, and active perioperative patient education. Of the 20 patients enrolled, 18 were discharged on the afternoon of the operation day with a median total length of stay (LOS) of 31 hours (range, 29-32) hours. The median LOS after surgery was 6.5 (range, 5-8) hours. Two patients were transferred from the AS protocol to conventional care due to intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid leakage (one case) and an unsatisfying post-anesthetic discharge score (one case). Complications included transient and reversible mild postoperative nausea and vomiting [visual analog scale (VAS) score <3], headache (VAS score <3) after the operation or early after discharge. No patient was readmitted. Our results supported the safety and efficacy of the AS protocol for pituitary adenoma patients undergoing EEA resection among eligible patients, and further evaluation of this protocol in controlled studies with a larger sample size is warranted.

A new method to quantitatively analyze the sponge-like structure of nanoporous gold (NPG) was developed. Images of NPG, acquired by a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), were first binarized based on a gray threshold, and then ligaments were separated into a string of nanometer particles by an image split technique. In this way, the size distribution of these nanometer particles is equivalent to ligament size distribution. With similar approach, two addition parameters, pore width distribution and pore/ligament width ratio, were determined. And our results show a clear temperature dependence of the structure evolution of NPG.

Hypoxia is a major hallmark of solid tumors and is associated with malignant phenotypes. Exosomal miRNAs derived from hypoxia tumor cells are implicated in the modulation of cancer progression, whereas, the mechanisms underlying the association between hypoxia and exosomal miR-25-3p during breast cancer progression remain to be further clarified. The present study aimed to investigate the role of exosomal miR-25-3p in regulating breast cancer progression. Herein, we found that miR-25-3p expression was increased in hypoxia tumor-derived exosomes a HIF-1α-dependent manner. Hypoxia exosomes markedly stimulated the viability and migration of normoxia breast cancer cells, which was reversed by miR-25-3p depletion. Inhibition of exosomes miR-25-3p lowered hypoxic-induced the expression of IL-6 and NF-κB from THP-1 and RAW264.7 cells in a TLR7/8-dependent way. Treatment of macrophage supernatant (MS) initially incubated with hypoxic-responsed exosomes accelerated the viability and migration of breast cancer cells, and miR-25-3p depletion relieved the stimulatory effects of hypoxic on cell viability and migration. Moreover, miR-25-3p knockdown dramatically suppressed HIF-1α-induced tumor growth in vivo via inactivation of IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway, reflected by the abated abundances of IL-6 and p-STAT3. These data suggested that absence of exosomal miR-25-3p rescued breast cancer aggressiveness through inhibiting cell viability and migration by regulation of IL-6 secretion from macrophages, providing a potential biomarker for breast cancer treatment.

OBJECT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of preoperative oral carbohydrate loading versus fasting on the outcomes of patients undergoing elective craniotomy. METHODS: In a single-center randomized controlled study, 120 neurosurgical patients who were admitted for elective craniotomy were included and randomized into 2 groups: 58 patients received 400 mL of oral carbohydrate loading 2 h before surgery (intervention group), and 62 patients were fasting for 8 h prior to surgery as routine management (control group). The primary end point was glucose homeostasis. Secondary outcomes included handgrip strength, pulmonary function and postoperative complications. RESULTS: Better glucose homeostasis (5.6 ± 1.0 mmol/L vs. 6.3 ± 1.2 mmol/L, P = 0.001) was achieved in patients who received preoperative oral carbohydrate loading compared to fasting. Furthermore, patients in the intervention group had better handgrip strength (25.3 ± 7.1 kg vs. 19.9 ± 7.5 kg, P < 0.0001) and pulmonary function (in terms of peak expiratory flow rate) (315.8 ± 91.5 L/min vs. 270.0 ± 102.7 L/min, P = 0.036) compared to the controls postoperatively. The rates of postoperative surgical and non-surgical complications did not differ between the groups. Both postoperative and total hospital length of stay (LOS) reduced significantly in the intervention group (-3d, P < 0.0001 and P = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: Oral carbohydrate loading given 2 h before surgery in patients undergoing elective craniotomy seems to improve glucose homeostasis, handgrip strength and pulmonary function as well as decrease LOS without increasing the risk of postoperative complications. Routine use of preoperative oral carbohydrate loading could be suggested in clinical settings, though further evaluation of its safety and efficacy is warranted.

OBJECTIVEAlthough enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programs have gained acceptance in various surgical specialties, no established neurosurgical ERAS protocol for patients undergoing elective craniotomy has been reported in the literature. Here, the authors describe the design, implementation, safety, and efficacy of a novel neurosurgical ERAS protocol for elective craniotomy in a tertiary care medical center located in China.METHODSA multidisciplinary neurosurgical ERAS protocol for elective craniotomy was developed based on the best available evidence. A total of 140 patients undergoing elective craniotomy between October 2016 and May 2017 were enrolled in a randomized clinical trial comparing this novel protocol to conventional neurosurgical perioperative management. The primary endpoint of this study was the postoperative hospital length of stay (LOS). Postoperative morbidity, perioperative complications, postoperative pain scores, postoperative nausea and vomiting, duration of urinary catheterization, time to first solid meal, and patient satisfaction were secondary endpoints.RESULTSThe median postoperative hospital LOS (4 days) was significantly shorter with the incorporation of the ERAS protocol than that with conventional perioperative management (7 days, p < 0.0001). No 30-day readmission or reoperation occurred in either group. More patients in the ERAS group reported mild pain (visual analog scale score 1-3) on postoperative day 1 than those in the control group (79% vs. 33%, OR 7.49, 95% CI 3.51-15.99, p < 0.0001). Similarly, more patients in the ERAS group had a shortened duration of pain (1-2 days; 53% vs. 17%, OR 0.64, 95% CI 0.29-1.37, p = 0.0001). The urinary catheter was removed within 6 hours after surgery in 74% patients in the ERAS group (OR 400.1, 95% CI 23.56-6796, p < 0.0001). The time to first oral liquid intake was a median of 8 hours in the ERAS group compared to 11 hours in the control group (p < 0.0001), and solid food intake occurred at a median of 24 hours in the ERAS group compared to 72 hours in the control group (p < 0.0001).CONCLUSIONSThis multidisciplinary, evidence-based, neurosurgical ERAS protocol for elective craniotomy appears to have significant benefits over conventional perioperative management. Implementation of ERAS is associated with a significant reduction in the postoperative hospital stay and an acceleration in recovery, without increasing complication rates related to elective craniotomy. Further evaluation of this protocol in large multicenter studies is warranted.Clinical trial registration no.: ChiCTR-INR-16009662 (chictr.org.cn).

BACKGROUND: In this work, we investigated the functional role of microRNA 137 (miR-137) in regulating osteosarcoma both in vitro and in vivo. METHODS: Quantitative RT-PCR was used to examine the gene expressions of miR-137 in osteosarcoma cell lines and osteosarcoma tumors. 143B and Saos-2 cells were infected with lentivirus expressing miR-137 mimics (miR-137-mimic) to ectopically upregulate miR-137. In vitro cancer proliferation and migration were examined by MTT assay and transwell assay, respectively. Viral infected Saos-2 cells were also subcutaneously inoculated into null mice to evaluate the effect of miR-137 upregulation on in vivo tumor growth. The interaction between miR-137 and its downstream target, FXYD6, was evaluated by dual-luciferase reporter assay and quantitative real-time PCR. FXYD6 was then subsequently upregulated in osteosarcoma cells to evaluate its effect on miR-137 regulation in osteosarcoma. RESULTS: We found that miR-137 was significantly downregulated in both osteosarcoma cell lines and osteosarcoma tumors. Lentiviral infection of miR-137-mimic upregulated miR-137 gene expression, reduced in vitro proliferation and migration and inhibited in vivo osteosarcoma tumor growth. FXYD6 was verified to be directly interacting with miR-137, and its subsequent upregulation reversed the inhibitory effect of miR-137 upregulation in osteosarcoma. CONCLUSION: We revealed novel functional role of miR-137 in osteosarcoma regulation, likely through FXYD6 binding.

Sea cucumbers have a strong regenerative capacity. Many important genes involved in the molecular mechanism of regeneration and associated with intercellular signaling pathways of regeneration have been identified. The product of the fibropellin-ia gene forms a layer known as the apical lamina that surrounds the sea cucumber embryo throughout development. Meanwhile, the tenascin gene displays highly restricted and dynamic patterns of expression in the embryo and is expressed in the adult during normal processes such as wound healing, nerve regeneration and tissue involution. In this study, we cloned for the first time full-length cDNAs of fibropellin-ia (1390 bp, encoding a 199 amino acid protein) and tenascin (1366 bp, encoding a 179 amino acid protein) from Apostichopus japonicus (designated Aj-fnia and Aj-tenascin, respectively) using rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The structures and characteristics of these two genes were analyzed bioinformatically, and their expression patterns associated with extracellular matrix remodeling in regeneration of A. japonicus were investigated by real-time PCR and in situ hybridization (ISH). Expression levels of Aj-fnia and Aj-tenascin in the regeneration tissues were higher than those in normal tissues. The highest expression levels of Aj-fnia and Aj-tenascin were shown in the intestine and respiratory tree on the 15th and 20th days after sea cucumbers were eviscerated. In the body wall, the highest expression levels of Aj-fnia and Aj-tenascin occurred at 35 and 45 min during early regeneration and then emerged between 5 and 7 days again during late regeneration after the body wall was injured. ISH analysis revealed expression of these genes in the body wall, longitudinal muscle, intestine and respiratory tree. These findings suggest that Aj-fnia and Aj-tenascin are crucial genes that play important roles in the regeneration of the sea cucumber.

Fibrosarcoma is a malignant soft tissue tumor of mesenchymal origin. Despite advances in medical and surgical treatment, patient survival rates have remained poor. According to the cancer stem cell hypothesis, tumors are comprised of heterogeneous cell populations that have different roles in tumor formation and growth. Cancer stem cells are a small cell subpopulation that exhibits stem-like properties to gain aggressiveness and recurrence. These cells have been identified in a variety of cancerous tumors, but not in human fibrosarcoma. In this study, we observed that HT1080 cells and primary fibrosarcoma cells formed spheres and showed higher self-renewal capacity, invasiveness and drug resistance compared with their adherent counterparts. Moreover, we demonstrated that the cells showed higher expression of the embryonic stem cell-related genes Nanog, Oct3/4, Sox2, Sox10 and their encoding proteins, as well as greater tumorigenic capacity in nude mice. In conclusion, our data suggest the presence of a stem-like cell population in human fibrosarcoma tumors, which provides more evidence for the cancer stem cell hypothesis and assistance in designing new therapeutic strategies against human fibrosarcoma.

This study investigated the prevalence of respiratory viruses, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza virus types A and B (Flu A/B), parainfluenza virus (Para) 1-3, and adenovirus (Ad), in hospitalized children with acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRIs). Immunofluorescence assays identified viral etiology in 412 patients younger than 16 years old. The overall viral isolation rate was 63.1% (260/412). The RSV was detected in 25.0%, Flu A/B in 19.4%, Para 1-3 in 14.6%, and Ad in 4.1% of the total sample. Multiple viruses were detected in 6.6% of the study population. Most viral infections occurred in the first 5 years of life, and the incidence of viral infection peaked during early spring and winter. Infection with Ad often resulted in the development of severe pneumonia in older children, and during the summer. The sequences of the isolated Ad hexons belonged to species B, and were closely related to the Gomen strain isolated in the United States in the 1950s. The study results will help determine the etiologic agents of ALRI in children and establish prevention and treatment programs.
