RESUMO

In order to simultaneously accelerate ion and electron transfer in sodium-ion battery (SIB) cathodes, a topotactic superlattice was utilized, in which the atomically intrinsic lattice-matching effect from inner to external surface can boost the charge transfer due to the disappearance of the heterojunction interface. Herein, a topotactic syntopogenous Na3VF6/NaVF3 superlattice formulated as Na2.9V1.1F6 (NVF) was synthesized by a facile one-step low-temperature hydrothermal reaction. NVF nanoparticles show an excellent Na+ storage capacity (∼205 mAh g-1) in a high voltage window up to 4.2 V with ultralong cycling stability. That is associated with the mixed occupancy of V and Na in NVF. The multivalent V centers serve as electron reservoirs to inhibit phase transformation, and the Na-enriched Na3VF6 with better electron conductivity acts as a Na+ reservoir for effective electron transfer. Highly reversible (de)intercalation of Na+ is achieved in the channel of perovskite-type NaVF3 with structural integrity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Studies focused on pregnant women with congenital heart disease (CHD)-associated pulmonary hypertension (PH) are scarce and limited by small sample sizes and single-center design. This study sought to describe the pregnancy outcomes in women with CHD with and without PH. METHODS: Outcomes for pregnant women with CHD were evaluated retrospectively from 1993 to 2016 and prospectively from 2017 to 2019 from 7 tertiary hospitals. PH was diagnosed on the basis of echocardiogram or catheterization. The incidence of maternal death, cardiac complications, and obstetric and offspring complications was compared for women with CHD and no PH, mild, and moderate-to-severe PH. RESULTS: A total of 2220 pregnant women with CHD had completed pregnancies. PH associated with CHD was identified in 729 women, including 398 with mild PH (right ventricle to right atrium gradient 30-50 mm Hg) and 331 with moderate-to-severe PH (right ventricle to right atrium gradient >50 mm Hg). Maternal mortality occurred in 1 (0.1%), 0, and 19 (5.7%) women with CHD and no, mild, or moderate-to-severe PH, respectively. Of the 729 patients with PH, 619 (85%) had CHD-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension, and 110 (15%) had other forms of PH. Overall, patients with mild PH had better maternal outcomes than those with moderate-to-severe PH, including the incidence of maternal mortality or heart failure (7.8% versus 39.6%; P<0.001), other cardiac complications (9.0% versus 32.3%; P<0.001), and obstetric complications (5.3% versus 15.7%; P<0.001). Brain natriuretic peptide >100 ng/L (odds ratio, 1.9 [95% CI, 1.0-3.4], P=0.04) and New York Heart Association class III to IV (odds ratio, 2.9 [95% CI, 1.6-5.3], P<0.001) were independently associated with adverse maternal cardiac events in pregnancy with PH, whereas follow-up with a multidisciplinary team (odds ratio, 0.4 [95% CI, 0.2-0.6], P<0.001) and strict antenatal supervision (odds ratio, 0.5 [95% CI, 0.3-0.7], P=0.001) were protective. CONCLUSIONS: Women with CHD-associated mild PH appear to have better outcomes compared with women with CHD-associated moderate-to-severe PH, and with event rates similar for most outcomes with women with CHD and no PH. Multimodality risk assessment, including PH severity, brain natriuretic peptide level, and New York Heart Association class, may be useful in risk stratification in pregnancy with PH. Follow-up with a multidisciplinary team and strict antenatal supervision during pregnancy may also help to mitigate the risk of adverse maternal cardiac events.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: The detection of organic nitrogen compounds in exhaled breath is expected to provide an early warning of diseases such as kidney disease. Detecting these trace disease markers in exhaled breath with complex composition and high moisture content is a challenge. Surface ionization (SI) shows a highly selective ionization of organic nitrogen compounds, and it is a good candidate for breath analysis combined with ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). METHODS: A stepwise SI method of low-temperature adsorption/high-temperature ionization was proposed, and trimethylamine (TMA) was detected when combined with an ion mobility spectrometer. TMA at different concentrations and humidity levels and spiked in human breath was detected to evaluate the method's properties. RESULTS: TMA with concentrations from 2 to 200 ppb was detected. The peak intensity of the TMA characteristic ions was linearly related to the "e" exponent of the concentration with a curve fit of 0.996. A standard deviation of less than 0.306% was obtained with 10 replicate analyses of 10 ppb TMA. The signal intensity difference between dry and wet (relative humidity > 93%) TMA samples is only 2.7%, and the recovery rate of the sample was 106.819%. CONCLUSIONS: SI-IMS based on the stepwise SI method has the advantages of low ionization temperature, high detection sensitivity, strong resistance to humidity interference, and good repeatability. It is a promising method for detecting organic nitrogen compounds in exhaled breath.

RESUMO

This study assessed the efficacy of ThinPrep cytologic test and human papillomavirus (HPV) co-test in cervical cancer screening during pregnancy. A cohort of 8,712 pregnant women from Ren Ji Hospital participated in the study. Among them, 601 (6.90%) tested positive for high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) and 38 (0.44%) exhibited abnormal cytology results (ASCUS+). Following positive HR-HPV findings, 423 patients underwent colposcopy, and 114 individuals suspected of having high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion and cervical cancer (HSIL+) underwent cervical biopsy. Histological examination revealed 60 cases of normal pathology (52.63%), 35 cases of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (30.70%), 17 cases of HSIL (14.91%), and 2 cases of cervical cancer (1.75%). The incidence of HSIL+ in HPV 16/18 group was significantly higher than that in non-HPV16/18 group (10.53% vs. 6.14%, P < 0.05). Subsequent evaluation of the clinical performance of cytology alone, primary HPV screening, and co-testing for HSIL+ detection revealed that the HSIL+ detection rate was lowest with cytology alone. These findings suggest that HPV testing, either alone or combined with cytology, presents an efficient screening strategy for pregnant women, underscoring the potential for improved sensitivity in cervical cancer screening during pregnancy. The significantly higher incidence of HSIL+ in the HPV16/18 group emphasizes the importance of genotype-specific considerations.

RESUMO

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor-κB Ligand (RANKL) are the two important factors causing bone loss, which is an important pathogenesis for osteoporosis. However, the relationship between LPS and RANKL is not yet clear. LPS can be involved in the weakened osteoblast formation as an autophagy regulator, and osteoblasts and their precursors are the source cells for RANKL production. Our study aimed to explore the relationship between autophagy changes and RANKL production during LPS-regulated osteoblasts. Our results showed that LPS inhibited autophagy (LC3 conversion and autophagosome formation) and enhanced the protein and mRNA expression of RANKL in MC3T3-E1 osteoblast precursor line. Autophagy upregulation with Rapamycin over BECN1 overexpression rescued LPS-inhibited osteoblast formation and -promoted RANKL protein production in MC3T3-E1 cells. In vivo experiments supported that damaged bone mass, bone microstructure, osteoblastic activity (ALP and P1NP production by ELISA assays) and enhanced RANKL production by LPS administration were partially rescued by Rapamycin application. In conclusion, LPS can inhibit autophagy in osteoblast precursors, thereby inhibiting osteoblast formation and RANKL autophagic degradation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To review the effectiveness of different physical therapies for acute and sub-acute low back pain supported by evidence, and create clinical recommendations and expert consensus for physiotherapists on clinical prescriptions. DATA SOURCES: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed and the Cochrane Library for studies published within the previous 15 years. REVIEW METHODS: Systematic review and meta-analysis, randomized controlled trials assessing patients with acute and sub-acute low back pain were included. Two reviewers independently screened relevant studies using the same inclusion criteria. The Physiotherapy Evidence Database and the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews tool were used to grade the quality assessment of randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews, respectively. The final recommendation grades were based on the consensus discussion results of the Delphi of 22 international experts. RESULTS: Twenty-one systematic reviews and 21 randomized controlled trials were included. Spinal manipulative therapy and low-level laser therapy are recommended for acute low back pain. Core stability exercise/motor control, spinal manipulative therapy, and massage can be used to treat sub-acute low back pain. CONCLUSIONS: The consensus statements provided medical staff with appliable recommendations of physical therapy for acute and sub-acute low back pain. This consensus statement will require regular updates after 5-10 years.

RESUMO

An optical thermometry strategy based on Mn2+ -doped dual-wavelength emission phosphor has been reported. Samples with different doping content were synthesized through a high-temperature solid-phase method under an air atmosphere. The electronic structure of Li4 Zn(PO4 )2 was calculated using density functional theory, revealing it to be a direct band gap material with an energy gap of 4.708 eV. Moreover, the emitting bands of Mn2+ at 530 and 640 nm can be simultaneously observed when using 417 nm as the exciting wavelength. This is due to the occupation of Mn2+ at the Zn2+ site and the interstitial site. Further analysis was conducted on the temperature-dependent emission characteristics of the sample in the range 293-483 K. Mn2+ has different responses to temperature at different doping sites in Li4 Zn(PO4 )2 . Based on the calculations using the fluorescence intensity ratio technique, the maximum relative sensitivity at a temperature of 483 K was determined to be 1.69% K-1 , while the absolute sensitivity was found to be 0.12% K-1 . The results showed that the Li4 Zn(PO4 )2 :Mn2+ phosphor has potential application in optical thermometry.

RESUMO

This study aimed to propose a portable and intelligent rehabilitation evaluation system for digital stroke-patient rehabilitation assessment. Specifically, the study designed and developed a fusion device capable of emitting red, green, and infrared lights simultaneously for photoplethysmography (PPG) acquisition. Leveraging the different penetration depths and tissue reflection characteristics of these light wavelengths, the device can provide richer and more comprehensive physiological information. Furthermore, a Multi-Channel Convolutional Neural Network-Long Short-Term Memory-Attention (MCNN-LSTM-Attention) evaluation model was developed. This model, constructed based on multiple convolutional channels, facilitates the feature extraction and fusion of collected multi-modality data. Additionally, it incorporated an attention mechanism module capable of dynamically adjusting the importance weights of input information, thereby enhancing the accuracy of rehabilitation assessment. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed system, sixteen volunteers were recruited for clinical data collection and validation, comprising eight stroke patients and eight healthy subjects. Experimental results demonstrated the system's promising performance metrics (accuracy: 0.9125, precision: 0.8980, recall: 0.8970, F1 score: 0.8949, and loss function: 0.1261). This rehabilitation evaluation system holds the potential for stroke diagnosis and identification, laying a solid foundation for wearable-based stroke risk assessment and stroke rehabilitation assistance.

RESUMO

We conducted this study aimed to explore the effect of operating room nursing intervention on wound infection in patients undergoing ovarian cysts surgery. A computer system was used to search PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Wanfang, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases, from database inception to October 2023, for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on the application of operating room nursing intervention to ovarian cyst surgery. Literature that met the requirements was independently screened by two researchers, and data were extracted and assessed for literature quality. RevMan 5.4 software was applied for data analysis. Fifteen RCTs involving 1187 patients were finally included. The analyses revealed that, compared with routine nursing, the implementation of operating room nursing intervention had a significant advantage in reducing the incidence of wound infections (1.17% vs. 5.44%, odds ratio [OR]: 0.30, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.15-0.58, p = 0.0004) and postoperative complications (6.34% vs. 25.17%, OR: 0.20, 95%CI: 0.13-0.29, p < 0.00001), as well as being able to shorten the operative time (standardised mean difference [SMD]: -3.93, 95%CI: -5.67 to -2.20, p < 0.00001), hospital length of stay (SMD: -2.54, 95%CI: -3.19 to -1.89, p < 0.00001) and gastrointestinal recovery time (SMD: -1.61, 95%CI: -2.24 to -0.98, p < 0.00001) in patients undergoing ovarian cysts surgery. This study confirmed by meta-analysis that the operating room nursing intervention can significantly reduce the incidence of wound infection and complications, shorten the operative time, gastrointestinal recovery time, and hospital length of stay after ovarian cyst surgery.

RESUMO

Here, a "chemical unit co-substitution" method is used to improve the near-infrared (NIR) emission of phosphors, using [Zn2+-Ge4+] to co-substitute [Ga3+-Ga3+] sites to reduce crystal field splitting to affect the structure of gallium oxide. A series of broadband NIR phosphors are synthesized by a high-temperature solid-phase method, and their phase structures, crystal structures, morphologies, diffuse reflectance spectra, and luminescence lifetimes are investigated. The Ga1.68(Zn-Ge)0.3O3:0.02Cr3+ (GZGOC) phosphor exhibits NIR wide-band emission, with a peak wavelength of 766 nm and a half-width of 138 nm. Meanwhile, the quantum yield of photoluminescence can reach 81.2%. The phosphor has good thermal stability. When the temperature reaches 373 K, its emission intensity still remains at 73.4% of that at room temperature. A 460 nm LED chip and this phosphor are used to fabricate a phosphor-converted light emitting diode (pc-LED) device which can be used as a NIR light source. All these results show the application potential of the as-prepared phosphor in NIR imaging.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Intestinal pseudo-obstruction (IPO) is a rare disease, and its clinical manifestations can resemble mechanical intestinal obstruction leading to unnecessary and potentially harmful surgery. Certain autoimmune diseases have been associated with IPO, however, cases secondary to Sjögren's syndrome (SjS) are especially rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We described the first case of SjS-associated acute IPO in pregnancy, which was successfully treated with combined immunosuppressive therapy and resulted in an uneventful caesarean delivery. CONCLUSIONS: Women with SjS is likely to experience more complications during pregnancy, and IPO rather than the classic symptoms could be the first sign of SjS flares. IPO should be suspected in patients with unrelenting symptoms of small bowel obstruction, and a multidisciplinary approach can provide optimal management of such high-risk pregnancies.

RESUMO

One key reason for T cell exhaustion is continuous antigen exposure. Early exhausted T cells can reverse exhaustion and differentiate into fully functional memory T cells if removed from persisting antigen stimulation. Therefore, this study viewed T cell exhaustion as an over-activation status induced by chronic antigen stimuli. This study hypothesized that blocking TCR signal intermittently to terminate over-activation signal can defer the developmental process of T cell exhaustion. In this study, melanoma-bearing mice were treated with tacrolimus (FK506) every 5 days. The tumor size and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) were analyzed. We found that intermittent administration of tacrolimus significantly inhibited tumor growth, and this effect was mediated by CD8+T cells. Intermittent tacrolimus treatment facilitated the infiltration of CD8+TILs. RNA-seq and quantitative RT-PCR of sorted CD8+TILs showed the expression of Nr4a1 (an exhaustion-related transcription factor) and Ctla4 (a T cell inhibitory receptor) was remarkably downregulated. These results indicated that intermittently blocking TCR signal by tacrolimus can promote anti-tumor immunity and inhibit the tumor growth in melanoma-bearing mice, inhibiting the transcription of several exhaustion-related genes, such as Nr4a1 and Ctla4.

RESUMO

Down/upconversion Ca14Al10Zn6O35 inorganic phosphors codoped with Ti4+/Eu3+ or Yb3+/Er3+ were prepared. The crystal structure and downconversion luminescence properties of Ca14Al10Zn6O35:Ti4+, Eu3+ phosphors were studied in detail. Ti4+ and Eu3+ occupied Al3+ and Ca2+ sites in the host lattice, respectively. Under the excitation of 273 nm, the emission peak in the 300-570 nm band originated from the 2T2 → O2- transition of Ti4+. The f-f transition of Eu3+ ions generated multiple peaks in the 570-800 nm range. The emission intensity of Ti4+ and Eu3+ ions can be used as a fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) signal. Based on the FIR technology, the maximum relative sensitivity (Sr) and the minimum temperature uncertainty (δT) reached 1.41% K-1 and 0.07 K, respectively. Meanwhile, the temperature-sensing behaviors were explored by the temperature-dependent upconversion spectra of Er3+- and Yb3+-codoped Ca14Al10Zn6O35 phosphors. Based on the fluorescence intensity ratio of thermal coupling levels (Er3+:2H11/2/4S3/2), the maximum Sr and minimum δT of upconversion phosphors reached 1.28% K-1 and 0.08 K in the temperature range of 293-473 K, respectively. Ca14Al10Zn6O35:Ti4+/Eu3+ (Yb3+/Er3+) phosphors realize temperature sensors with higher relative sensitivity, and it is a good candidate material for optical temperature measurement.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There is a need for effective health service solutions to provide greater structure and support for implementing evidence-based practice in back pain care. Patient involvement in developing these solutions is crucial to increase relevance, acceptability and uptake. OBJECTIVES: To determine patients' perceived needs and barriers to best-practice back pain care, and potential solutions to better address care needs. The study is the third in a series of needs assessment studies feeding into the 'idea generation' for service design in a large teaching hospital in a culturally and linguistically diverse community in metropolitan Sydney, Australia. DESIGN: We conducted a combination of focus groups and in-depth interviews using an interpretive description approach. We used inductive thematic analysis to identify the main themes. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: We purposively sampled patients with diverse characteristics from the neurosurgery and physiotherapy outpatient clinics, in particular those whose primary language was English, Arabic, Persian or Mandarin. Non-English audio recordings were translated and transcribed by bilingual researchers. RESULTS: There were 24 participants (focus groups = 9; individual interviews = 15) when data saturation was reached. The analysis identified three key themes with several subthemes around what service designers needed to understand in helping people with back pain in this setting: (1) This is who I am; (2) It's not working for me; and (3) What I think I need. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: This study highlights that perceived unmet needs of patients are underpinned by unhelpful beliefs about the causes of and solutions for back pain, misaligned care expectations, unclear expectations of the hospital role and fragmentations in the health system. To design and implement a service that can deliver better back pain care, several solutions need to be integrated around: developing new resources that challenge unhelpful beliefs and set realistic expectations; improving access to education and self-management resources; focusing on individualized care; using a collaborative multidisciplinary approach within the hospital; and better connecting with and directing primary health care services. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: A consumer representative of the Western Sydney Local Health District provided input during study conceptualisation and is duly recognized in the Acknowledgements section.

RESUMO

Hypertensive disorder in pregnancy is a disease with diverse clinical manifestations. Herein, we provided interpretations for "The Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertensive Disorders in Pregnancy in China (2020 Edition)" and discussed the difficulties and confusion encountered in the management of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy in combination with clinical practice. Lowering blood pressure is the most important treatment and maintaining a stable target blood pressure can reduce damage to organ functions and is beneficial to fetal growth. When applying magnesium sulfate, attention should be paid to the indications and contraindications. Attention should be paid to hypoproteinemia in patients tested positive for proteinuria. There should be dynamic evaluation of the functions of maternal vital organs, fetal growth and development, fetal well-being and intrauterine safety, and determination of the appropriate timing of the termination of pregnancy, so as to ensure maternal and fetal safety. Attention should be paid to maternal high-risk factors, if early prediction and prevention are to be accomplished in order to reduce the incidence and severity of the disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Neck pain is common in dancers, especially female dancers, and the injury pattern varies in different genres of dance. Among dancesport performers, intensive neck left rotation is required in female International Standard dancers, but it is unknown whether neck pain is associated with neck rotation range of motion and proprioception. OBJECTIVES: To explore the associations between neck pain, cervical rotation range of motion, and proprioception in female International Standard dancers. METHODS: Twelve dancers with dance-related neck pain (age 19.9±1.9 yrs) volunteered, matched with 12 not reporting neck pain (age 22.2±2.4 yrs). A 100-mm visual analog scale (VAS) was used to record neck pain. Active rotation range of motion (AROM) of the cervical spine was measured using a tape measure. A cervical rotation reposition test that used a head-mounted laser projector on a linear scale was employed to measure the cervical spine proprioception, and the absolute error (AE) and variable error (VE) were calculated as proprioceptive acuity scores. RESULTS: Nine of 12 participants in the group with neck pain declared left side pain, with 2 reporting pain on both sides. The group with neck pain had significantly lower left rotation AROM (p<0.05). For proprioceptive acuity, mixed model ANOVA only showed that repositioning of the right side of the neck is more accurate and consistent than that of the left (both AE and VE p<0.05). Linear regression analysis indicated that left rotation AROM was significantly influenced by left neck pain (t=3.061, p=0.006, adjusted R2 = 0.267, and Durbin-Watson value = 1.776). CONCLUSIONS: Most participants in the group with neck pain showed left side pain, associated with decreased left rotation AROM. Early screening on cervical rotation mobility may be necessary to reduce future dance-related injury after the onset of neck pain. Proprioceptive acuity of the left side neck was significantly impaired compared with that of the right, indicating future proprioceptive intervention on the left side neck.

RESUMO

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a primary malignant bone tumour that mainly affects teenagers, with patients displaying poor prognosis. Budding uninhibited by benzimidazoles 1 (BUB1), a type of serine/threonine kinase that is linked to pro-tumorigenic phenomena, has not been well studied in OS. Hence, this study aimed to explore the role of BUB1 in OS. The expression of BUB1 in OS specimens and cell lines was assessed using immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis. Univariate and multivariate analyses were applied to evaluate the impact of BUB1 on patient survival. Cell counting kit-8, wound-healing and Transwell assays, as well as flow cytometry, were used to investigate the influence of BUB1 inhibition on OS in vitro. Moreover, a tumour xenograft model was established to investigate the in vivo effect of BUB1 inhibition on OS tumour growth. Results showed that BUB1 was overexpressed in OS specimens and cell lines. Furthermore, BUB1 overexpression was closely associated with the poor clinical outcomes of patients with OS. Inhibition of BUB1 markedly suppressed cell proliferation and tumour growth, cell migration, invasion and induced cell apoptosis of OS by blocking the PI3K/Akt and ERK signalling pathways. Thus, our study suggested that overexpression of BUB1 protein contributed to poor survival of OS patients and that inhibition of BUB1 resulted in considerable anti-tumour activity associated with proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis of OS.

RESUMO

For periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) patients, an early and rapid detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in joint synovial fluid is of great significance for receiving timely treatment and avoiding side effects. In clinical practice, the methods for detecting MRSA include the culture-based method and the PCR-based mecA gene detection method with fluorescent readout. However, the culture-based method requires up to 3-7 days for incubation and elaborative screening. The PCR-based molecular diagnosis, due to its high sensitivity, improves the detection time but sacrifices cost and gives false-positive results. Herein, a ligation chain reaction (LCR)-based electrochemical biosensor was developed to detect the mecA of MRSA with the advantages of rapidity, accuracy and low cost. In this system, an integrated dsDNA labeled with thiol and biotin at both terminals is generated only in the presence of the target DNA after LCR, followed by immobilization of the integrated dsDNAs on the bovine serum albumin (BSA)-coated gold electrode, and then the streptavidin horseradish peroxidase (SA-HRPs) is specifically bound to the biotin labels via biotin-streptavidin interaction, generating the catalytic amperometric readout. Impressively, the developed method achieved the detection of rare mecA in the joint synovial fluid of PJI patients (417-666 copies as quantified by qPCR). The proposed electrochemistry-based method is highly convenient for the point-of-care testing and was comparable with PCR in sensitivity, but superior in selectivity (single-base differentiation) and cost (nanomolar DNA probe consumption and simple device), demonstrating its huge potential in clinical applications for MRSA diagnosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This systematic review and meta-analysis examined relationships between low back pain (LBP)-related disability and pain beliefs, including pain catastrophizing, pain-related fear, self-efficacy, and back pain beliefs, in non-English-speaking populations. Additionally, the effects of selected cultural factors (i.e., language/geographic area) on the strength of relationships were examined. STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Nine databases were searched. Studies included observational or randomized control clinical trials. Eligible studies had to report estimates of the association between pain beliefs and disability. Pooled estimates of correlation coefficients were obtained through random-effects meta-analysis methods. RESULTS: Fifty-nine studies, (n = 15,383) were included. Moderate correlations were identified between disability and pain self-efficacy (chronic LBP r = -0.51, P ≤ 0.001), between disability and pain catastrophizing (acute LBP r = 0.47, P ≤ 0.001; chronic LBP r = 0.44, P ≤ 0.001), and also between disability and pain-related fear (chronic LBP r = 0.41, P ≤ 0.001). Otherwise, weak correlations were identified between disability and most pain beliefs (range r = -0.23 to 0.35, P ≤ 0.001). Pooled correlation coefficients between disability and all pain beliefs (except the Fear Avoidance Belief Questionnaire-Work subscale) represent medium effects and suggest that lower disability was associated with greater pain self-efficacy, less pain-related fear, less catastrophic thinking, and less negative back pain beliefs about the nature and cause of back pain. Results were consistent across most language groups and geographic regions; few studies reported ethnicity or religion. DISCUSSION: LBP-related disability was associated with pain-related beliefs, with consistency demonstrated for each pain belief construct across divergent non-English-speaking populations. Further research examining cultural factors, such as ethnicity or religion, and with a more diverse population is warranted.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We focus on providing the first comprehensive national dataset on the incidence, injury aetiology and mortality of TSCI in China. METHODS: A multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method was used. We included TSCI cases from all hospitals in three regions, nine provinces and 27 cities in China via search of electronic medical records and retrospectively analysed the characteristics of TSCI in China from 2009 to 2018. We estimated the incidence of TSCI in the total population and subgroups. RESULTS: There were 5954 actual cases in 2009, corresponding to a total estimated TSCI incidence of 45.1 cases per million population (95% CI, 44.0-46.3). There were 10,074 actual cases in 2018, corresponding to a total estimated TSCI incidence of 66.5 cases per million population (95% CI, 65.2-67.8) (P < 0.001; annual average percentage change (AAPC), 4.4%). From 2009 to 2018, the incidence of almost all sex/age groups showed an increasing trend over time (P < 0.001; AAPC, 0.7-8.8%). The elderly population (aged 65-74) displayed the highest incidence of TSCI (with an average annual incidence of 127.1 cases per million [95% CI, 119.8-134.3]). CONCLUSIONS: The TSCI incidence increased significantly from 2009 to 2018. The incidence in the elderly populations was consistently high and continues to increase over time. The mortality of TSCI patients in hospitals is relatively low and continues to decrease each year, but elderly individuals remain at a high risk of hospital death.
