RESUMO

Carbon structures with covalent bonds connecting C60 molecules have been reported1-3, but their production methods typically result in very small amounts of sample, which restrict the detailed characterization and exploration necessary for potential applications. We report the gram-scale preparation of a new type of carbon, long-range ordered porous carbon (LOPC), from C60 powder catalysed by α-Li3N at ambient pressure. LOPC consists of connected broken C60 cages that maintain long-range periodicity, and has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, magic-angle spinning solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy and neutron scattering. Numerical simulations based on a neural network show that LOPC is a metastable structure produced during the transformation from fullerene-type to graphene-type carbons. At a lower temperature, shorter annealing time or by using less α-Li3N, a well-known polymerized C60 crystal forms owing to the electron transfer from α-Li3N to C60. The carbon K-edge near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure shows a higher degree of delocalization of electrons in LOPC than in C60(s). The electrical conductivity is 1.17 × 10-2 S cm-1 at room temperature, and conduction at T < 30 K appears to result from a combination of metallic-like transport over short distances punctuated by carrier hopping. The preparation of LOPC enables the discovery of other crystalline carbons starting from C60(s).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bladder cancer is the second most common genitourinary malignancy worldwide. The death rate of bladder cancer has increased every year. However, the molecular mechanism of bladder cancer is not sufficiently studied. Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) play an important role in carcinogenesis. Several studies have demonstrated that USP5 associated with malignancy and pathological progression in hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal and non-small cell lung cancer. However, the role of USP5 in bladder cancer need to be explored. METHODS: The USP5 expression was analysed using the web server GEPIA. To explore USP5 function in bladder cancer, we constructed USP5-knockout cell lines in T24 cells. A FLAG-USP5 (WT USP5) plasmid and a plasmid FLAG-USP5 C335A (catalytic-inactive mutant) used to overexpress USP5 in EJ cells. CCK8, colony formation, transwell and scratch assays were used to assess cell viability, proliferation and migration. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and dual-luciferase reporter assays were performed to screen the pathway. Coimmunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence were used to explore the interaction between USP5 and c-Jun. Cycloheximide (CHX) chase assays were performed to establish the effect of USP5 on c-Jun stability. Xenograft mouse model was used to study the role of USP5 in bladder cancer. RESULTS: USP5 expression is increased in bladder cancer patients. Genetic ablation of USP5 markedly inhibited bladder cancer cell proliferation, viability, and migration both in vitro and in vivo. RNA-seq and luciferase pathway screening showed that USP5 activated JNK signalling, and we identified the interaction between USP5 and c-Jun. USP5 was found to activate c-Jun by inhibiting its ubiquitination. CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that high USP5 expression promotes bladder cancer progression by stabilizing c-Jun and that USP5 is a potential therapeutic target in bladder cancer.

RESUMO

Dynamic polyimines are a class of fascinating dynamic polymers with recyclability and reparability owing to their reversible Schiff-base reactions. However, balancing the dynamic properties and mechanical strength of dynamic polyimines presents a major challenge due to the dissociative and associative nature of the imine bonds. Herein, we introduced bulky fluorene groups and polyether amine into the skeleton of polyimine networks to achieve a tradeoff in comprehensive properties. The resulting dynamic polyimines with fluorene groups (Cardo-DPIs) were successfully synthesized by combining the rigid diamine 9,9-bis(4-aminophenyl)fluorene and the flexible polyether amine, demonstrating a high tensile strength of 64.7 MPa. Additionally, Cardo-DPIs films with more content of rigid fluorene groups exhibited higher water resistance, glass transition temperature and wear-resisting ability. Moreover, the Cardo-DPIs films not only efficiently underwent thermal reshaping, but also exhibited excellent self-healing capabilities and chemical degradation in acidic solutions. Furthermore, the resulting films can achieve fully closed-loop recovery by free amine solution for 2 h at room temperature. This study broadens the scope of dynamic polyimine materials and promotes the balanced development of their functional and mechanical properties.

RESUMO

Atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) technology is a new strategy for alleviating freshwater scarcity. Adsorbent materials with high hygroscopicity and high photothermal conversion efficiency are the key to AWH technology. Hence, in this study, a simple and large-scale preparation for a hygroscopic compound of polyurethane (PU) sponge-grafted calcium alginate (CA) with carbon ink (SCAC) was developed. The PU sponge in the SCAC aerogel acts as a substrate, CA as a moisture adsorber, and carbon ink as a light adsorber. The SCAC aerogel exhibits excellent water absorption of 0.555-1.40 g·g-1 within a wide range of relative humidity (40-80%) at 25 °C. The SCAC aerogel could release adsorbed water driven by solar energy, and more than 92.17% of the adsorbed water could be rapidly released over a wide solar intensity range of 1.0-2.0 sun. In an outdoor experiment, 57.517 g of SCAC was able to collect 32.8 g of clean water in 6 h, and the water quality meets the drinking water standards set by the World Health Organization. This study suggests a new approach to design promising AWH materials and infers the potential practical application of SCAC aerogel-based adsorbents.

RESUMO

RESEARCH QUESTION: As Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease and an essential factor in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), are there gene-related relationships between the pathogenesis of Sjögren's syndrome and RPL? DESIGN: The gene datasets for Sjögren's syndrome and RPL were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, and the co-expression modules and shared differentially expressed genes were identified through weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and limma analysis based on sample size. Gene Ontology and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses were applied to reveal the hidden biological pathways. Additionally, shared hub gene identification, gene set enrichment analysis, association of the hub gene with ferroptosis and immunity, drug sensitivity analysis, single-cell RNA sequencing analysis, and construction of the competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network were conducted. RESULTS: By intersecting the genes from WGCNA and limma analysis, one shared hub gene (KCNN3) was derived, exhibiting up-regulation in Sjögren's syndrome and RPL. There was a positive relationship between KCNN3 and the immune-related gene TLR2. The ceRNA network revealed that XIST was the most shared long non-coding RNA, which may bind competitively with eight microRNA to regulate the expression of KCNN3. Forty-eight drugs were found to be strongly associated with KCNN3 expression, including estramustine and cyclosporine. Moreover, KCNN3 exhibited high expression in RPL endothelial cells of villous tissue. CONCLUSIONS: This is one of the first studies to reveal that Sjögren's syndrome shares common biological pathways with RPL. KCNN3 was identified as the hub gene associated with Sjögren's syndrome and RPL, and may be a new target for mechanistic studies on Sjögren's syndrome and RPL.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: There has been an increasing demand for imaging methods that provide a comprehensive evaluation of intracranial clot and collateral circulation, which are helpful for clinical decision-making and predicting functional outcomes. We aimed to quantitatively evaluate acute intracranial clot burden and collaterals on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI). METHODS: We analyzed acute ischemic stroke patients with internal carotid artery or middle cerebral artery occlusion in a prospective multicenter study. The clot burden was scored on a scale of 0-10 based on the clot location on HR-MRI. The collateral score was assigned on a scale of 0-3 using the minimum intensity projection from HR-MRI. Uni- and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to assess their correlation with clinical outcome (modified Rankin Scale >2 at 90 days). Thresholds were defined to dichotomize into low- and high-score groups, and predictive performances were assessed for clinical and radiologic outcomes. RESULTS: Ninety-nine patients (mean age of 60.77 ± 11.54 years) were included in the analysis. The interobserver correlation was 0.89 (95% CI: 0.77-0.95) for the clot burden score and 0.78 (95% CI: 0.53-0.90) for the collateral score. Multivariable logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the collateral score (odds ratio: 0.41, 95% CI: 0.19-0.90) was significantly associated with clinical outcomes. A better functional outcome was observed in the group with clot burden scores greater than 7 (p = 0.011). A smaller final infarct size and a higher diffusion-weighted imaging-based Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score were observed in the group with collateral scores greater than 1 (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: HR-MRI offers a new tool for quantitative assessment of clot burden and collaterals simultaneously in future clinical practices and research endeavors.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the significance of autophagy proteins and their association with clinical data on pregnancy loss in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), while also constructing predictive models. METHODS: This study was a secondary analysis. we collected endometrial samples from 33 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 7 patients with successful pregnancy control women at the Reproductive Center of the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University between September 2019 and September 2020. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry was employed to identify expressed proteins in the endometrium of 40 patients. R was use to identify differential expression proteins(DEPs). Subsequently, Metascape was utilized for Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses. Multivariate Cox analysis was performed to analyze autophagy proteins associated with reproductive outcomes, while logistic regression was used for analyzing clinical data. Linear correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between autophagy proteins and clinical data. We established prognostic models and constructed the nomograms based on proteome data and clinical data respectively. The performance of the prognostic model was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: A total of 5331 proteins were identified, with 450 proteins exhibiting significant differential expression between the PCOS and control groups. A prognostic model for autophagy protein was developed based on three autophagy proteins (ARSA, ITGB1, and GABARAPL2). Additionally, another prognostic model for clinical data was established using insulin, TSH, TPOAB, and VD3. Our findings revealed a significant positive correlation between insulin and ARSA (R = 0.49), as well as ITGB1 (R = 0.3). Conversely, TSH exhibited a negative correlation with both ARSA (-0.33) and ITGB1 (R = -0.26). CONCLUSION: Our research could effectively predict the occurrence of pregnancy loss in PCOS patients and provide a basis for subsequent research.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to screen and construct a predictive model for pregnancy loss in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients through machine learning methods. METHODS: We obtained the endometrial samples from 33 PCOS patients and 7 healthy controls at the Reproductive Center of the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University from September 2019 to September 2020. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LCMS/MS) was conducted to identify the differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) of the two groups. Gene Ontology (GO) as well as Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis were performed to analyze the related pathways and functions of the DEPs. Then, we used machine learning methods to screen the feature proteins. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was also conducted to establish the prognostic models. The performance of the prognostic model was then evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). In addition, the Bootstrap method was conducted to verify the generalization ability of the model. Finally, linear correlation analysis was performed to figure out the correlation between the feature proteins and clinical data. RESULTS: Four hundred and fifty DEPs in PCOS and controls were screened out, and we obtained some pathways and functions. A prognostic model for the pregnancy loss of PCOS was established, which has good discrimination and generalization ability based on two feature proteins (TIA1, COL5A1). Strong correlation between clinical data and proteins were identified to predict the reproductive outcome in PCOS. CONCLUSION: The model based on the TIA1 and COL5A1 protein could effectively predict the occurrence of pregnancy loss in PCOS patients and provide a good theoretical foundation for subsequent research.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although current penile enlargement techniques can improve appearance, it remains unclear whether these procedures increase sexual function. We aimed to systematically compare the surgical outcomes, with a particular focus on sexual function, in patients and their partners following silicone pearls implantation and fat grafting for penis enlargement. METHODS: A single-site, retrospective study reviewed patients who underwent silicone pearls implantation or fat grafting for penis enlargement. In the operation, silicone pears were connected to form a ring-shaped implant, which was then implanted under the dartos fascia. For patients underwent fat grafting, a total of 40-55 ml of fat was injected for penis enlargement. Preoperative and 6-month postoperative data of patients and their partners were collected. The penis diameter, penis appearance score (PAS) and treatment satisfaction scale (TSS) were evaluated. RESULTS: Both pearls implantation (n = 28) and fat grafting (n = 27) led to an increase in penis diameter. The TSS scores of patients who underwent pearls implantation increased by 11.96%, and the partners' scores increased by 9.17%. Specifically, Confidence, Pleasure from Sexual Activity, and Satisfaction with Orgasm scores of partners showed significant improvements. Partners' Satisfaction with Orgasm increased most. The total TSS scores of patients with fat grafting increased by 16.7%; meanwhile, scores of their partners had not obvious improvement. CONCLUSION: Silicone pearls implantation was found to effectively improve the sexual function of men and the sexual satisfaction of their partners compared to fat grafting. Therefore, pearls implantation is possible to enhanced sexual experiences both for man and their partners. RESUMO

A new hydrazone Schiff base bridging ligand (H2LSchiff (E)-N'-((1-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)methylene)pyrazine-2-carbohydrazide) and L/D-proline were used to construct a pair of homochiral Dy6 cluster complexes, [Dy6(CO3)(L-Pro)6(LSchiff)4(HLSchiff)2]·5DMA·2H2O (L-1, L-HPro = L-proline; DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide) and [Dy6(CO3)(D-Pro)6(LSchiff)4(HLSchiff)2]·5DMA·2H2O (D-1, D-HPro = D-proline), which show a novel triangular Dy6 topology. Notably, the fixation of CO2 in the air formed a carbonato central bridge, playing a key role in assembling L-1/D-1. Magnetic measurements revealed that L-1/D-1 displays intramolecular ferromagnetic coupling and magnetic relaxation behaviours. Furthermore, L-1/D-1 shows a distinct magneto-optical Faraday effect and has a second harmonic generation (SHG) response (1.0 × KDP) at room temperature. The results show that the immobilization of CO2 provides a novel pathway for homochiral multifunctional 4f cluster complexes.

RESUMO

Heptanuclear {GdIII7} (complex 1) and tetradecanuclear {GdIII14} (complex 2) were synthesized using the rhodamine 6G ligand HL (rhodamine 6G salicylaldehyde hydrazone) and characterized. Complex 1 has a rare disc-shaped structure, where the central Gd ion is connected to the six peripheral GdIII ions via CH3O-/µ3-OH- bridges. Complex 2 has an unexpected three-layer double sandwich structure with a rare µ6-O2- ion in the center of the cluster. Magnetic studies revealed that complex 1 exhibits a magnetic entropy change of 17.4 J kg-1 K-1 at 3 K and 5 T. On the other hand, complex 2 shows a higher magnetic entropy change of 22.3 J kg-1 K-1 at 2 K and 5 T.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Toxin-antitoxin systems are highly variable, even among strains of the same bacterial species. The MazEF toxin-antitoxin system is found in many bacteria and plays important roles in various biological processes such as antibiotic tolerance and phage defense. However, no interplay of MazEF systems between different species was reported. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MazEF toxin-antitoxin system of Helicobacter macacae was examined in three Escherichia coli strains with and without endogenous MazEF knockout. In vivo toxicity, antibiotic tolerance, and live/dead staining followed by flowcytometry analysis were performed to evaluate the functionality and interplay of the toxin-antitoxin system between the two species. RESULTS: Controlled ectopic expression of MazF of H. macacae (MazFhm) in E. coli did not affect its growth. However, in endogenous MazEF knockout E. coli strains, MazFhm expression caused a sharp growth arrest. The toxicity of MazFhm could be neutralized by both the antitoxin of MazE homolog of H.macacae and the antitoxin of MazE of E. coli, indicating interplay of MazEF toxin-antitoxin systems between the two species. Induced expression of MazFhm enhanced tolerance to a lethal dose of levofloxacin, suggesting enhanced persister formation, which was further confirmed by live/dead cell staining. CONCLUSIONS: The MazEF toxin-antitoxin system of H. macace enhances persister formation and thus antibiotic tolerance in E. coli. Our findings reveal an interplay between the MazEF systems of H. macacae and E. coli, emphasizing the need to consider this interaction while evaluating the toxicity and functionality of MazF homologs from different species in future studies.

RESUMO

Two pairs of homochiral Dy(III) tetranuclear cluster complexes derived from (+)/(-)-3-trifluoroacetyl camphor (D-Htfc/L-Htfc), [Dy4(OH)2(L1)4(D-tfc)2(DMF)2]·4DMF (D-1) [H2L1 = (E)-2-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylideneamino)phenol)]/[Dy4(OH)2(L1)4(L-tfc)2(DMF)2]·4DMF (L-1) and [Dy4(OH)2(L2)4(D-tfc)2(DMF)2]·2H2O·3MeCN (D-2) [H2L2 = (E)-3-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylideneamino)naphthalen-2-ol]/[Dy4(OH)2(L2)4(L-tfc)2(DMF)2]·2H2O·3MeCN (L-2), were synthesized at room temperature, which have a Dy4 parallelogram-like core. The magnetic studies revealed that D-1 exhibits single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior under zero dc magnetic field, and its magnetic relaxation has a distinct Raman process in addition to the Orbach process, with the Ueff/k value of 57.5 K and the C value of 28.27 s-1K-2.14; while D-2 displays dual magnetic relaxation behavior at 0 Oe field, with the Ueff/k value 114.8 K for the slow relaxation process (SR) and the C value of 10.656 s-1K-5.80 for the fast relaxation process (FR), respectively. Theoretical calculations indicated that the conjugated groups (phenyl vs naphthyl) of the Schiff base bridging ligands (H2L1 and H2L2) significantly affect the intramolecular magnetic interactions between the Dy3+ ions and ultimately lead to different relaxations. Furthermore, magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) measurements showed that these two pairs of Dy4 enantiomers exhibit strong room temperature magneto-optical Faraday effects; notably, increasing the conjugated group on the Schiff base bridging ligand is beneficial to enhancing the magneto-optical Faraday effects.

RESUMO

The high incidence of lymphatic metastasis is closely related to poor prognosis and mortality in cancers. Potent inhibitors to prevent pathological lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic spread are urgently needed. The VEGF-C-VEGFR3 pathway plays a vital role in driving lymphangiogenesis and lymph node metastasis. In addition, COX2 in tumor cells and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) facilitates lymphangiogenesis. We recently reported that aiphanol, a natural stilbenolignan, attenuates tumor angiogenesis by repressing VEGFR2 and COX2. In this study, we evaluated the antilymphangiogenic and antimetastatic potency of aiphanol using in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo systems. We first demonstrated that aiphanol directly bound to VEGFR3 and blocked its kinase activity with an half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of 0.29 µM in an in vitro ADP-GloTM kinase assay. Furthermore, we showed that aiphanol (7.5-30 µM) dose-dependently counteracted VEGF-C-induced proliferation, migration and tubular formation of lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs), which was further verified in vivo. VEGFR3 knockdown markedly mitigated the inhibitory potency of aiphanol on lymphangiogenesis. In 4T1-luc breast tumor-bearing mice, oral administration of aiphanol (5 and 30 mg· kg-1 ·d-1) dose-dependently decreased lymphatic metastasis and prolonged survival time, which was associated with impaired lymphangiogenesis, angiogenesis and, interestingly, macrophage infiltration. In addition, we found that aiphanol decreased the COX2-dependent secretion of PGE2 and VEGF-C from tumor cells and macrophages. These results demonstrate that aiphanol is an appealing agent for preventing lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic dissemination by synergistically targeting VEGFR3 and inhibiting the COX2-PGE2-VEGF-C signaling axis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Pharmacological treatments are very common to be used for alleviating neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) in dementia. However, decision on drug selection is still a matter of controversy. AIMS: To summarise the comparative efficacy and acceptability of currently available monotherapy drug regimens for reducing NPS in dementia. METHOD: We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials between inception and 26 December 2022 without language restrictions; and reference lists scanned from selected studies and systematic reviews. Double-blind randomised controlled trials were identified from electronic databases for reporting NPS outcomes in people with dementia. Primary outcomes were efficacy and acceptability. Confidence in the evidence was assessed using Confidence in Network Meta-Analysis (CINeMA). RESULTS: We included 59 trials (15,781 participants; mean age, 76.6 years) and 15 different drugs in quantitative syntheses. Risperidone (standardised mean difference [SMD] -0.20, 95% credible interval [CrI] -0.40 to -0.10) and galantamine (-0.20, -0.39 to -0.02) were more effective than placebo in short-term treatment (median duration: 12 weeks). Galantamine (odds ratio [OR] 1.95, 95% CrI 1.38-2.94) and rivastigmine (1.87, 1.24-2.99) were associated with more dropouts than placebo, and some active drugs. Most of the results were rated as low or very low according to CINeMA. CONCLUSIONS: Despite the scarcity of high-quality evidence, risperidone is probably the best pharmacological option to consider for alleviating NPS in people with dementia in short-term treatment when considering the risk-benefit profile of drugs.

RESUMO

Lyonia doyonensis is a deciduous shrub native to high-altitude regions of Asia. So far, there is no report on any chemical and biological properties of L. doyonensis. An EtOH extract of L. doyonensis twigs and leaves showed inhibitory activities on protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B and lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in BV-2 microglial cells. A phytochemical investigation of this extract led to the isolation of a, so far only ambiguously described, 24-norursane-type triterpenoid, now named lyonensinol A (1: ), along with its two new derivatives, lyonensinols B and C (2: and 3: ), and six known triterpenoids (4 - 9: ). Their structures were elucidated by detailed analysis of spectroscopic data. A combination of chemical conversions, electronic circular dichroism, and Mo2(OAc)4-induced electronic circular dichroism was used to confirm their absolute configurations. Lyonensinols B (2: ) and C (3: ) represent the first examples of norursane-type triterpenoids acylated with a p-coumaroyl moiety. The potential anti-inflammatory and protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inhibitory activities of all the isolates were evaluated. Compounds 3, 7: , and 8: at 10 µM showed potent inhibitory activities on lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in BV-2 microglial cells, with nitric oxide levels decreasing to 31.5, 41.9, and 27.1%, respectively, while compounds 3, 4, 7: , and 8: exhibited notable inhibitory activities against protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B, with IC50 values ranging from 1.7 to 18.2 µM. Interestingly, compounds 3: and 8: , bearing a C-3 trans-p-coumaroyl group, showed not only more potent anti-inflammatory effects, but also exhibited stronger protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inhibition than their respective stereoisomers (2: and 7: ) with a cis-p-coumaroyl group.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The relationship between Mg (magnesium), Cu (copper), and K (potassium) intakes and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remains limited. The aim of present study was to examine the associations between Mg, Cu and K intakes with RA. METHODS: Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003-2018, we examined the association between Mg, Cu and K intakes and the risk of RA among US adults. After adjustment for age, sex, race, BMI, educational level, smoking history, alcohol consumption, family Poverty Income Ratio (PIR), diabetes and total daily energy intake, logistic regression models and smooth curve fitting were applied to examine the associations of Mg, Cu and K intakes with RA. RESULTS: A total of 18,338 participants were included (1,008 participants with RA). The multivariate adjusted ORs (95% CI) of RA were [0.66 (0.51, 0.84)], [0.76 (0.60, 0.97)], and [0.75 (0.58, 0.97)] in the highest versus lowest quartile of magnesium intakes, respectively. A nonlinear association between Cu intakes and RA was found. When Cu intake (ln) was between 0.6-2.2 mg, the risk of RA reduced by 26% for every 1 mg increase of intake in Cu [0.74 (0.58, 0.96)]. CONCLUSIONS: Higher Mg, Cu and K intakes may be inversely associated with the risk of RA among US adults, and an inverse L-shaped association between dietary Cu and RA was found.

RESUMO

Fatty acid biosynthesis is essential for bacterial survival. Of these promising targets, ß-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthase III (FabH) is the most attractive target. A series of novel 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2(3H)-thione derivatives containing 1,4-benzodioxane skeleton targeting FabH were designed and synthesized. These compounds were determined by 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, MS and further confirmed by crystallographic diffraction study for compound 7m and 7n. Most of the compounds exhibited good inhibitory activity against bacteria by computer-assisted screening, antibacterial activity test and E. coli FabH inhibitory activity test, wherein compounds 7e and 7q exhibited the most significant inhibitory activities. Besides, compound 7q showed the best E. coli FabH inhibitory activity (IC50 =2.45 µΜ). Computational docking studies also showed that compound 7q interacts with FabH critical residues in the active site.

RESUMO

Layered ferromagnets with strong magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) have special applications in nanoscale memory elements in electronic circuits. Here, we report a strain tunability of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnets VI3 using magnetic circular dichroism measurements. For an unstrained flake, the M-H curve shows a rectangular-shaped hysteresis loop with a large coercivity (1.775 T at 10 K) and remanent magnetization. Furthermore, the coercivity can be enhanced to a maximum of 2.6 T under a 3.8% external in-plane tensile strain. Our DFT calculations show that the increased MAE under strain contributes to the enhancement of coercivity. Meanwhile, the strain tunability on the coercivity of CrI3, with a similar crystal structure, is limited. The main reason is the strong spin-orbit coupling in V3+ in VI6 octahedra in comparison with that in Cr3+. The strain tunability of coercivity in VI3 flakes highlights its potential for integration into vdW heterostructures.

RESUMO

Multifunctional materials with a coexistence of proton conduction properties, single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviors and magneto-optical Faraday effects have rarely been reported. Herein, a new pair of Cu(II)-Dy(III) enantiomers, [DyCu2(RR/SS-H2L)2(H2O)4(NO3)2]·(NO3)·(H2O) (R-1 and S-1) (H4L = [RR/SS] -N,N'-bis [3-hydroxysalicylidene] -1,2-cyclohexanediamine), has been designed and prepared using homochiral Schiff-base ligands. R-1 and S-1 contain linear Cu(II)-Dy(III)-Cu(II) trinuclear units and possess 1D stacking channels within their supramolecular networks. R-1 and S-1 display chiral optical activity and strong magneto-optical Faraday effects. Moreover, R-1 shows a zero-field SMM behavior. In addition, R-1 demonstrates humidity- and temperature-dependent proton conductivity with optimal values of 1.34 × 10-4 S·cm-1 under 50 °C and 98% relative humidity (RH), which is related to a 1D extended H-bonded chain constructed by water molecules, nitrate and phenol groups of the RR-H2L ligand.
