RESUMO

Total organic carbon (TOC) in lake sediments from upstream catchments is deposited and buried in substrate, recording historical environmental changes. However, the linkage among natural variability, anthropogenic activity, and TOC burial for has not yet been clarified. This study examined the lake sediments of five 200-cm-deep dated depositional cores in west Dongting lake, China to quantify the magnitude, allocation, and amplitude of TOC burial. 44.47-59.36% of TOC burial flux was buried at 100-200 cm, suggesting lake sediments at deep layers stored considerable carbon. TOC burial rate (BRTOC) decreased along the lake entrance to its body, which was explained by the geochemical differences. Since 1900, BRTOC presented an increasing with a 4-7 times uptrend, showing three sedimentary stages with the increased human disturbance, such as deforestation, hydroelectric facilities. Moreover, the coefficient of variation of BRTOC in the third stage was lower than that in the second stage for the implementation of watershed reforestation and reservoir construction. Our findings stressed that natural variations of lake sedimentation background induced the change of TOC burial among the depositional sites, and enhanced that anthropogenic perturbation drove its chronological increases. This research unveiled the linkage between TOC burial, natural variability, and human disturbance from the perspective of burial evolutions in a lacustrine sedimentary environment.

The purpose of this research was to investigate whether or not avicularin (AVL) possesses any anticancer properties when tested against lung cancer. In the beginning, the effect that it had on the cellular viability of A549 cells was investigated, and it was discovered that AVL has a considerable negative impact on cellular viability. Following that, an investigation using flow cytometry was carried out to investigate its function in the process of apoptosis and the cell cycle of A549 cells. It has been discovered that AVL significantly promotes apoptosis and stops the cell cycle at the G2/M phase. The colony-forming capacity of A549 cells was observed to be greatly suppressed as the AVL concentration increased compared to the group that received no treatment. In addition to this, the benzo(a)pyrene in vivo model was established in order to investigate the pharmacological value of AVL. The findings revealed that AVL greatly prevented the formation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, in addition to the reduction in oxidative stress, which was evidenced by a reduction in the concentration of TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-6, and MDA with an improvement in the concentration of SOD and GPx, respectively. Our results successfully demonstrated the pharmacological benefit of avicularin against lung cancer, and it has been suggested that it showed a multifactorial effect.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, community workers' proactive behavior has played a noteworthy role in the crisis response. Previous research has not highlighted this group and their proactive behavior. To address this important gap, drawing upon the job demands-resources (JD-R) model, this study explores how red tape affects proactive behavior and investigates the mediating role of lack of goal progress (LOGP) and the moderating role of public service motivation (PSM) in this relationship. Based on a two-wave survey with a sample of 656 community workers in China, we found a negative relationship between red tape and proactive behavior. Moreover, this study showed that LOGP mediated this relationship. Contrary to our hypothesis, PSM did not moderate the relationship between LOGP and proactive behavior. These findings have important theoretical and practical implications and can better inform community work during COVID-19.

SARS-COV-2 is prevalent all over the world, causing more than six million deaths and seriously affecting human health. At present, there is no specific drug against SARS-COV-2. Protein phosphorylation is an important way to understand the mechanism of SARS -COV-2 infection. It is often expensive and time-consuming to identify phosphorylation sites with specific modified residues through experiments. A method that uses machine learning to make predictions about them is proposed. As all the methods of extracting protein sequence features are knowledge-driven, these features may not be effective for detecting phosphorylation sites without a complete understanding of the mechanism of protein. Moreover, redundant features also have a great impact on the fitting degree of the model. To solve these problems, we propose a feature selection method based on ensemble learning, which firstly extracts protein sequence features based on knowledge, then quantifies the importance score of each feature based on data, and finally uses the subset of important features as the final features to predict phosphorylation sites.

Phage has high specificity for its host recognition. As a natural enemy of bacteria, it has been used to treat super bacteria many times. Identifying phage proteins from the original sequence is very important for understanding the relationship between phage and host bacteria and developing new antimicrobial agents. However, traditional experimental methods are both expensive and time-consuming. In this study, an ensemble learning-based feature selection method is proposed to find important features for phage protein identification. The method uses four types of protein sequence-derived features, quantifies the importance of each feature by adding perturbations to the features to influence the results, and finally splices the important features among the four types of features. In addition, we analyzed the selected features and their biological significance.

Based on social information processing theory, we provide a novel theoretical account of how and when leader humor influences subordinate boundary-spanning behavior. We develop a moderated mediation model explicating the mechanism of psychological safety and the boundary condition of subordinate interpersonal influence. Using multiwave data, we tested our research hypotheses with a sample of 452 members from 140 teams in a Chinese information technology (IT) company. Results showed that leader humor positively affects subordinate boundary-spanning behavior via increased psychological safety. Moreover, this mediated effect is stronger when subordinates have high interpersonal influence. These findings offer theoretical and practical insights into boundary-spanning activities and leader humor, which we discuss.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical efficacy of reconstruction the anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular ligament with autologous peroneus brevis tendon for the treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability. METHODS: The clinical data of 42 patients with chronic lateral ankle instability treated by anatomical reconstruction of anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular ligament with autologous peroneus brevis tendon from July 2016 to July 2019 was retrospectively analyzed. Including 30 males and 12 females, age ranged from 25 to 46 years old with an average of (37.6±12.4) years. There were 15 cases of left foot and 27 cases of right foot, the time from injury to operation was 3 to 12 months with a mean of (7.4±2.8) months. And 14 patients had tenderness in lateral collateral ligament area, 28 patients complained of multiple ankle sprains while walking on the flat ground. At 12 months after operation, the talar tilt angle and visual analogue scale(VAS)were observed, ankle joint varus stress and anterior drawer test were performed to check the mechanical stability of the ankle joint, American Orhopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS) was used to score the ankle and hindfoot functions and evaluate the curative effect. RESULTS: Forty patients were followed up for 12 to 48 months with an average of (28.3±10.0) months, 2 cases were lost. The VAS decreased from(4.50±0.93) scores before surgery to (1.10±0.30) scores at 12 months after surgery;the talar tilt angle was reduced from (12.26±1.13)° before operation to (4.60±0.45)° at 12 months after operation;the AOFAS score increased from (65.10±7.50)scores before surgery to (84.40±3.95) scores at 12 months after surgery;all the differences were statically significant(P<0.05). According to the AOFAS score, 27 cases got excellent results, 7 good, 5 fair, and 1 poor. One patient had the symptoms of sural nerve injury after operation, and the symptoms were relieved after oral Mecobalamin for 3 months. The remaining patients had no complications such as nerve injury, infection, and skin necrosis. There was no instability of ankle joint, and both ankle varus stress test and drawer test were negative. CONCLUSION: Autologous peroneal brevis tendon with double bone channel pass through the tendon (modified Chrisman-Snook operation) can anatomically reconstruct the anterior talofibular ligament and the calcaneofibular ligament, restore the stability of the patient's ankle joint, reduce postoperative complications, and restore ankle joint function well.

RESUMO

A case of double-layered lateral meniscus in which an accessory proximal hemimeniscus was overlying the body and posterior horn of the lateral meniscus is here reported. The accessory hemimeniscus lays marginal and parallel to the normal lateral meniscus with its periphery dissociated from the capsule and was significantly thinner and more mobile than its underlying counterpart. It was resected arthroscopically, and the patient's symptoms were significantly improved. This case demonstrates an interesting and extremely rare anatomical abnormality of the lateral meniscus.

Osteoarthritis (OS) is a common disease in orthopedics. Although OS is known as an inflammation mediated by inflammatory cytokines; however, the mechanism is poorly understood. In the present study, the role of bone morphogenetic protein-9 (BMP9) was investigated in chondrogenic differentiation of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs). ADMSCs were transfected with BMP9. BMP9 mRNA expression was detected by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Type II collagen and aggrecan expression was detected by western blotting and RT-qPCR. Mouse models of knee OS were established. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and toluidine blue staining were performed to observe changes in the OS-affected knee joint. After intra-articular injection of ADMSCs transfected with BMP9, intra-articular expression of type II collagen and aggrecan was detected by western blot analysis and RT-qPCR. After the Notch signaling pathway was inhibited in ADMSCs, ADMSCs were injected into the articular cavity. The expression of Notch signaling pathway-related proteins Notch1 and Jagged1 was detected by western blot analysis and RT-qPCR. BMP9 promoted chondrogenic differentiation of ADMSCs. After injection of BMP9 overexpressing ADMSCs into the articular space, type II collagen and aggrecan expression was increased. When the Notch signaling pathway of ADMSCs was inhibited, the ability of BMP9 overexpressing ADMSCs to repair the cartilage in the OS-affected knee joint was attenuated. These results demonstrate that upregulating BMP9 protein expression may promote the chondrogenic differentiation of ADMSCs. Intra-articular injection of ADMSCs contributes to cartilage repair in OS-affected knee joints through the Notch1/Jagged1 signaling pathway.

In this study, we identify leader humility, characterized by being open to admitting one's limitations, shortcomings, and mistakes, and showing appreciation and giving credit to followers, as a critical leader characteristic relevant for team creativity. Integrating the literatures on creativity and leadership, we explore the relationship between leader humility and team creativity, treating team psychological safety and team information sharing as mediators. Further, we hypothesize and examine team power distance as a moderator of the relationship. We tested our hypotheses using data gathered from 72 work teams and 354 individual members from 11 information and technology firms in China using a multiple-source, time-lagged research design. We found that the positive relationship between leader humility and team information sharing was significant and positive only within teams with a low power distance value. In addition, leader humility was negatively related to team psychological safety in teams with a high power distance value, whereas the relationship was positive yet nonsignificant in teams with low power distance. Furthermore, team information sharing and psychological safety were both significantly related to team creativity. We discuss theoretical and practical implications for leadership and work teams. Advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) are recognized as novel markers of oxidative stress and contribute to various medical conditions, which are associated with secondary osteoporosis. However, little is currently known regarding the role of AOPPs in the development of secondary osteoporosis. As the commander cells of bone remodeling, osteocytes are involved in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis. The present study aimed to determine the cytotoxic mechanisms of AOPPs on osteocytic MLO­Y4 cells. The results demonstrated that treatment with AOPPs significantly triggered apoptosis of MLO­Y4 cells, in a dose­ and time­dependent manner. Furthermore, exposure to AOPPs induced phosphorylation of c­Jun N­terminal kinases (JNK) and p38 mitogen­activated protein kinases (MAPK). Conversely, N­acetylcysteine inhibited the activation of JNK and p38 MAPK, thus suggesting that the AOPPs­induced activation of JNK/p38 MAPK is reactive oxygen species (ROS)­dependent. In addition, SB203580 and SP600125 suppressed apoptosis, but did not affect ROS production, following AOPPs treatment. Notably, AOPPs also induced a significant upregulation in the expression levels of sclerostin and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa­B ligand (RANKL) in a JNK/p38 MAPK-dependent manner. These findings provide novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying AOPPs­mediated cell death, and suggest that modulation of apoptotic pathways via the MAPK signaling cascade may be considered a therapeutic strategy for the prevention and treatment of secondary osteoporosis.

This study examines the underlying mechanism of the crossover process in work teams. Drawing on conservation of resources theory, we hypothesize that a leader's psychological distress positively influences subordinates' psychological distress through abusive supervision. We further hypothesize that team performance attenuates the association between a leader's psychological distress and abusive supervision. In addition, we expect that psychological capital attenuates the positive relationship between abusive supervision and subordinates' psychological distress. Participants were drawn from 86 business teams, and multisource data were collected. The hypotheses were tested with multilevel analysis. Results supported the crossover of psychological distress from leader to subordinates, and abusive supervision serves as a mediating mechanism. The positive relationship between a leader's distress and abusive supervision is stronger when team performance is lower. In addition, the positive relationship between abusive supervision and subordinates' psychological distress is stronger when subordinates' psychological capital is lower.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of Lisfranc ligament reconstruction with autogenous tendon through biomechanical testing. METHODS: Twelve fresh-frozen cadaveric lower limbs were prepared three sequential testing conditions: intact Lisfranc ligament (intact group), disrupted Lisfranc ligament (disrupted group), and Lisfranc ligament reconstruction (reconstruction group). Under fixing on the Bose mechanical test machine, three models were given 0-600 N axial loading in the neutral position and the plantar flexion of 30 degrees according to the speed of 10 N/s, every 100 N load with a 1-minute interval. The medial cuneiform (C1) and the second metatarsal (M2) base displacement and the foot transverse arch height were recorded under different loads. RESULTS: In the neutral position and the plantar flexion of 30 degrees, C1-M2 displacement and foot transverse arch height showed an increasing trend with increased load under 0-600 N axial loading. There were significant differences in C1-M2 displacement variation in 2 positions among groups (P < 0.05). In disrupted group, the C1-M2 displacement variation in neutral position was significantly lower than that in plantar flexion of 30 degrees (t = 7.392, P = 0.000). In the neutral position, the foot transverse arch height variation in the disrupted group and the reconstruction group was significantly higher than that in the intact group (P < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between the disrupted group and reconstruction group (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Lisfranc ligament reconstruction with autogenous tendon can reduce the C1-M2 displacement variation and stabilize Lisfranc joint to a certain degree. Reconstruction of both dorsal ligament and Lisfranc ligament will not improve the buffering capacity. The C1-M2 displacement variation in the plantar flexion of 30 degrees is more obvious than that in neutral position, so it is helpful to improve clinical diagnosis of occult Lisfranc damage.

Prior research has demonstrated that service climate can enhance unit performance by guiding employees' service behavior to satisfy customers. Extending this literature, we identified ethical climate toward customers as another indispensable organizational climate in service contexts and examined how and when service climate operates in conjunction with ethical climate to enhance business performance of service units. Based on data collected in 2 phases over 6 months from multiple sources of 196 movie theaters, we found that service climate and ethical climate had disparate impacts on business performance, operationalized as an index of customer attendance rate and operating income per labor hour, by enhancing service behavior and reducing unethical behavior, respectively. Furthermore, we found that service behavior and unethical behavior interacted to affect business performance, in such a way that service behavior was more positively related to business performance when unethical behavior was low than when it was high. This interactive effect between service and unethical behaviors was further strengthened by high market turbulence and competitive intensity. These findings provide new insight into theoretical development of service management and offer practical implications about how to maximize business performance of service units by managing organizational climates and employee behaviors synergistically. The aim of the present study was to construct tissue-engineered laryngeal cartilage with a hollow, semi-flared shape using a poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHH) scaffold. Porous PHBHH was prepared and formed into a hollow, semi-flared shape, and the cell-material composites were cultured for one week in vitro prior to implantation in vivo. Cells of the nine rabbits of the experimental group were filled and encapsulated in the myofascial flap-shaping material composite for in situ implantation. The three rabbits in the control group were treated with the shaping material without the chondrocytes. Cartilage regeneration was assessed at six, 12 and 18 weeks after surgery. In the experimental group, the shape and porosity of the material were ideal, the cells exhibited good adhesion with the material and the myofascial flap blood supply was rich. The engineered laryngeal cartilage with the hollow, semi-flared shape was ideally formed, and the cartilage formed at six weeks after the surgery. Further maturation of the cartilage was observed at 12 and 18 weeks after the surgery. PHBHH was a suitable material for the formation of a hollow, semi-flared shape with good cellular compatibility. Myofascial flap filling and wrapping can be used to build tissue-engineered laryngeal cartilage with a hollow, semi-flared shape.

Research has uncovered mixed results regarding the influence of overqualification on employee performance outcomes, suggesting the existence of boundary conditions for such an influence. Using relative deprivation theory (Crosby, 1976) as the primary theoretical basis, in the current research, we examine the moderating role of peer overqualification and provide insights to the questions regarding whether, when, and how overqualification relates to employee performance. We tested the theoretical model with data gathered across three phases over 6 months from 351 individuals and their supervisors in 72 groups. Results showed that when working with peers whose average overqualification level was high, as opposed to low, employees who felt overqualified for their jobs perceived greater task significance and person-group fit, and demonstrated higher levels of in-role and extra-role performance. We discuss theoretical and managerial implications for overqualification at the individual level and within the larger group context.

Based on the field observation data of runoff and sediment yield produced by single rainfall events in runoff plots, this paper analyzed the variation patterns of runoff and sediment yield on the slopes with different gradients under different single rainfall conditions. The differences in the rainfall conditions had little effects on the variation patterns of slope runoff with the gradient. Under the conditions of six different rainfall events in the study area, the variation patterns of slope runoff with the gradient were basically the same, i. e., the runoff increased with increasing gradient, but the increment of the runoff decreased slightly with increasing gradient, which was mainly determined by the infiltration flux of atmospheric precipitation. Rainfall condition played an important role on the slope sediment yield. Generally, there existed a critical slope gradient for slope erosion, but the critical gradient was not a fixed value, which varied with rainfall condition. The critical slope gradient for slope erosion increased with increasing slope gradient. When the critical slope gradient was greater, the variation of slope sediment yield with slope gradient always became larger.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the method of fabricating larynx-shape tissue engineered cartilage by means of filling together with wrapping with pedicle myofascial flap. METHODS: Serial steps of solution casting, extrusion molding and particulate leaching were used to make larynx-shape [poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate), PHBHH] biomaterial models. The chondrocytes were seeded onto PHBHH models to form cell-PHBHH composites for culture in vitro for one week and then to fill and wrap larynx-shape composites with pedicle myofascial flap. After that to implant larynx-shape composites in situ on the back of adult New Zealand white rabbits (experimental groups n = 9). Control groups (n = 3) were the same measure as experimental groups but without chondrocytes on PHBHH models. Finally, morphological observation, HE & special staining and immunohistochemical test were conducted to evaluate the cartilage regeneration and its shape at 6, 8 and 12 weeks following implantation. RESULTS: The PHBHH models appeared to be hollow half-trumpet with edges and corners of larynx-shape and its porosity > 90%. Pedicle myofascial flap using fascia as lining presented rich blood supply and had enough to fill and wrap larynx-shape composites. Tissue engineered larynx-shape cartilage specimens could be harvested at different period. It was demonstrated that the cartilaginous tissue formed in 6 weeks after implantation through histological and immunohistochemical examination and further maturity in 12 weeks and 18 weeks. But no cartilaginous tissue showed without chondrocytes on PHBHH as control groups to implant at the same time. CONCLUSION: It seems that pedicled myofascial flap showed sufficient blood supply and that the filling together with wrapping method with pedicled myofascial flap is appropriate for fabricating larynx-shape tissue engineered cartilage.
