The objective of this study is to compare the clinical effectiveness of visualization of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (VPELD) combined with annulus fibrosus suture technique and simple percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) technique in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 106 cases of lumbar disc herniation treated with foraminoscopic technique at our hospital from January 2020 to February 2022. Among them, 33 cases were treated with VPELD combined with annulus fibrosus suture in group A, and 73 cases were treated with PELD in group B. The preoperative and postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS), functional index (Oswestry Disability Index, ODI), healing of the annulus fibrosus, intervertebral space height, and postoperative recurrence were recorded and compared between the two groups. All patients underwent preoperative and postoperative MRI examinations, and the average follow-up period was 12 ± 2 months. Both groups showed significant improvements in postoperative VAS and ODI scores compared to the preoperative scores (P < 0.05), with no statistically significant difference between the groups during the same period (P > 0.05). There was no significant decrease in intervertebral space between the two groups after surgery (P > 0.05). Group A showed significantly lower postoperative recurrence rate and better annulus fibrosus healing compared to group B (P < 0.05). The VPELD combined with annulus fibrosus suture technique is a safe, feasible, and effective procedure for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. When the indications are strictly adhered to, this technique can effectively reduce the postoperative recurrence rate and reoperation rate. It offers satisfactory clinical efficacy and can be considered as an alternative treatment option for eligible patients.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the risk factors of cerebrospinal fluid leakage (CSFL) following lumbar posterior surgery and summarize the related management strategies. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 3179 patients with CSFL strategies lumbar posterior surgery in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2020. There were 807 cases of lumbar disc hemiation (LDH), 1143 cases of lumbar spinal stenosi (LSS), 1122 cases of lumbar spondylolisthesis(LS), 93 cases of lumbar degenerative scoliosis(LDS),14 cases of lumbar spinal benign tumor (LST). Data of gender, age, body mass index(BMI), duration of disease, diabete, smoking history, preoperative epidural steroid injection, number of surgical levels, surgical methods (total laminar decompression, fenestration decompression), revision surgery, drainage tube removal time, suture removal time, and complications were recorded. RESULTS: The incidence of 115 cases with cerebrospinal fluid leakage, was 3.6% (115/3179).One-way ANOVA showed that gender, body mass index (BMI), smoking history, combined with type 2 diabetes and surgical method had no significant effect on CSFL (P > 0.05). Age, type of disease, duration of disease, preoperative epidural steroid injection, number of surgical levels and revision surgery had effects on CSFL (P < 0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that type of disease, preoperative epidural steroid injection, number of surgical levels and revision surgery were significantly affected CSFL (P < 0.05).Drainage tube removal time of CSFL patients ranged from 7 to 11 days, with an average of 7.1 ± 0.5 days, drainage tube removal time of patients without CSFL was 1-3 days, with an average of 2.0 ± 0.1 days, and there was a statistical difference between the two groups (P < 0.05).The removal time of CSFL patients was 12-14 days, with an average of 13.1 ± 2.7 days, and the removal time of patients without CSFL was 10-14 days, with an average of 12.9 ± 2.2 days, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Type of disease, preoperative epidural steroid injection, number of surgical levels and revision surgery were the risk factors for CSFL. Effective prevention were the key to CSFL in lumbar surgery. Once appear, CSFL can also be effectively dealt without obvious adverse reactions after intraoperative effectively repair dural, head down, adequate drainage after operation, the high position, rehydration treatment, and other treatments.

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to determine the functional role of miR-206 in T helper 17 (Th17)/regulatory T (Treg) cell differentiation during the development of osteoarthritis (OA). METHODS: Patients with OA and healthy controls were recruited for investigating the association between miR-206 and Th17/Treg ratio. Transfection experiments were conducted in CD4+ T cells to verify the mechanism of miR-206 on the balance of Treg/Th17. OA model was constructed to detect the clinical score, histopathological changes and Treg/Th17 ratio. OA model was induced in rats to verify the effect of miR-206 inhibition on Th17/Treg immunoregulation. RESULTS: High expression of miR-206 was positively correlated with peripheral Th17/Treg imbalance in patients with OA. The interactions between miR-206 and the 3' untranslated regions (3'-UTR) of suppressor of cytokine signaling-3 (SOCS3) and fork head transcriptional factor 3 (Foxp3) were confirmed by luciferase reporter assays. MiR-206 disturbed the Th17/Treg balance by targeting SOCS3 and Foxp3. In vivo assay demonstrated that antagomiR directed against miR-206 restored Th17/Treg balance during the development of OA. CONCLUSION: MiR-206 contributed to the progression of OA by modulating Th17/Treg imbalance, suggesting that miR-206 inhibition might be a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of OA.

Osteosarcoma is a common malignant bone tumor occurring in adolescents and children. The poor prognosis and low 5-year survival rate of osteosarcoma partly due to high metastasis of osteosarcoma. Triptolide (TPL), an extract from Tripterygium wilfordii, is widely used in cancer treatment. In our present study, we aimed to study the effect of TPL in osteosarcoma treatment and explore the associated regulation mechanism. Our study revealed that TPL inhibited angiogenesis by suppressing the expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in dose dependent manner. Besides, cell apoptosis was induced by TPL obviously in dose dependent manner. Further study demonstrated that TPL induced obvious cell autophagy with increased concentration. The cooperation of autophagy inhibitor 3-MA abolished the effect of TPL on anti-angiogenesis and apoptosis promoting. Moreover, we found that Wnt/ß-Catenin signaling was inactivated by TPL and the adding of pathway inducer Licl neutralized the effect of TPL on autophagy induction, anti-angiogenesis and apoptosis promoting. Taken together, we suggested that TPL inhibited angiogenesis and induced cell apoptosis in osteosarcoma cells by inducing autophagy via repressing Wnt/ß-Catenin signaling.

Using diffusion tensor imaging, several recent studies have shown that training results in changes in white matter efficiency as measured by fractional anisotropy (FA). In our work, we found that a form of mindfulness meditation, integrative body-mind training (IBMT), improved FA in areas surrounding the anterior cingulate cortex after 4-wk training more than controls given relaxation training. Reductions in radial diffusivity (RD) have been interpreted as improved myelin but reductions in axial diffusivity (AD) involve other mechanisms, such as axonal density. We now report that after 4-wk training with IBMT, both RD and AD decrease accompanied by increased FA, indicating improved efficiency of white matter involves increased myelin as well as other axonal changes. However, 2-wk IBMT reduced AD, but not RD or FA, and improved moods. Our results demonstrate the time-course of white matter neuroplasticity in short-term meditation. This dynamic pattern of white matter change involving the anterior cingulate cortex, a part of the brain network related to self-regulation, could provide a means for intervention to improve or prevent mental disorders.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have found that the processing of repeated targets are easier than that of non-repetition. Although several theories attempt to explain this issue, the underlying mechanism still remains uncovered. In this study, we tried to address this issue by exploring the underlying brain responses during this process. METHODS: Brain activities were recorded while thirty participants performing a Stroop task (Chinese version) in the MRI scanner. Using pseudo-random strategies, we created two types of switching conditions (easy-to-difficult; difficult-to-easy) and relevant repeating conditions. RESULTS: The results show that, in difficult-to-easy switching situation, higher brain activations are found in left precuneus than repeating ones (the precuneus is thought related with attention demands). In easy-to-difficult switching conditions, higher brain activations are found in precuneus, superior temporal gyrus, posterior cingulate cortex, and inferior frontal gyrus than repeating trials (most of these regions are thought related with executive function). No overlapping brain regions are observed in con_CON and incon_INCON conditions. Beta figures of the survived clusters in different conditions, correlations between brain activations and switch cost were calculated. CONCLUSIONS: The present study suggests that the feature that response time in switching trials are longer than that in repeating trials are caused by the extra endeavors engaged in the switching processes.

The construction of N, P co-doped hierarchically porous carbons (NPHPC) by a facile and green approach is crucial for high-performance energy storage but still an enormous challenge. Herein, an environment-friendly "in-situ co-doping, self-regulation-activation" strategy is presented to one-pot synthesize NPHPC using a phytic acid-induced polyethyleneimine/chitosan gel (PEI-PA-CS) as single precursor. NPHPC displayed a specific surface area of up to 1494 m2 g-1, high specific capacitance of 449 F g-1 at 1 A g-1, outstanding rate capability and cycling durability in a wide temperature range (-20 to 60 °C). NPHPC and PEI-PA-CS electrolyte assembled symmetric quasi-solid-state flexible supercapacitor presents superb energy outputs of 27.06 Wh kg-1 at power density of 225 W kg-1. For capacitive deionization (CDI), NPHPC also exhibit an excellent salt adsorption capacity of 16.54 mg g-1 in 500 mg L-1 NaCl solution at a voltage of 1.4 V, and regeneration performance. This study provides a valuable reference for the rational design and synthesis of novel biomass-derived energy-storage materials by integrating phytic acid induced heteroatom doping and pore engineering.

PURPOSE: Pirtobrutinib, a non-covalent Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor, has been approved as the first agent to overcome resistance to covalent BTK inhibitors (such as ibrutinib, acalabrutinib, and zanubrutinib). However, the mechanisms of pirtobrutinib resistance in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) remain poorly understood. METHODS: To investigate pirtobrutinib resistance, we established resistant cell models using BTK knock-out via CRISPR-Cas9 or chronic exposure to pirtobrutinib in MEC-1 cells. These models mimicked intrinsic or acquired resistance, respectively. We then analyzed differential protein expression between wild-type (WT) and resistant MEC-1 cells using Revers Phase Protein microArray (RPPA) and confirmed the findings through Western Blot. Additionally, we evaluated potential drugs to overcome pirtobrutinib resistance by conducting cell proliferation assays, apoptosis studies, and animal experiments using both sensitive and resistant cells. RESULTS: MEC-1 cells developed resistance to pirtobrutinib either through BTK knock-out or prolonged drug exposure over three months. RPPA analysis revealed significant activation of proteins related to the PI3K/AKT pathway, including AKT and S6, in the resistant cells. Western Blot confirmed increased phosphorylation of AKT and S6 in pirtobrutinib-resistant MEC-1 cells. Notably, both the PI3K inhibitor (CAL101) and the AKT inhibitor (MK2206) effectively reduced cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in the resistant cells. The anti-tumor efficacy of these drugs was mediated by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT pathway. In vivo animal studies further supported the potential of targeting PI3K/AKT to overcome both intrinsic and acquired resistance to pirtobrutinib. CONCLUSION: The PI3K/AKT pathway plays a crucial role in both intrinsic and acquired resistance to pirtobrutinib in CLL. Therapeutically targeting this pathway may offer a promising strategy to overcome pirtobrutinib resistance.

This study aims to investigate the feasibility and efficacy of anterior atlantoaxial motion preservation fixation (AMPF) in treating axis complex fractures involving the odontoid process fracture and Hangman's fractures with C2/3 instability. A retrospective study was conducted on eight patients who underwent AMPF for axis complex fractures at the General Hospital of Central Theater Command from February 2004 to October 2021. The types of axis injuries, reasons for injuries, surgery time, intraoperative blood loss, spinal cord injury classification (American Spinal Injury Association, ASIA), as well as complications and technical notes, were documented. This study included eight cases of type II Hangman's fracture, five cases of type II and three cases of type III odontoid process fracture. Five patients experienced traffic accidents, while three patients experienced falling injuries. All patients underwent AMPF surgery with an average intraoperative blood loss of 288.75 mL and a duration of 174.5 min. Two patients experienced dysphagia 1 month after surgery. The patients were followed up for an average of 15.63 months. One case improved from C to E in terms of neurological condition, three cases improved from D to E, and four cases remained at E. Bony fusion and Atlantoaxial Motion Preservation were successfully achieved for all eight patients. AMPF is a feasible and effective way for simultaneous odontoid process fracture and Hangman's fractures with C2/3 instability, while preserving atlantoaxial movement.

Objective: Accurate and prompt detection of cracked teeth plays a critical role for human oral health. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the performance of a tooth crack segmentation model (namely, FDB-DeepLabv3+) on optical microscopic images. Method: The FDB-DeepLabv3+ model proposed here improves feature learning by replacing the backbone with ResNet50. Feature pyramid network (FPN) is introduced to fuse muti-level features. Densely linked atrous spatial pyramid pooling (Dense ASPP) is applied to achieve denser pixel sampling and wider receptive field. Bottleneck attention module (BAM) is embedded to enhance local feature extraction. Results: Through testing on a self-made hidden cracked tooth dataset, the proposed method outperforms four classical networks (FCN, U-Net, SegNet, DeepLabv3+) on segmentation results in terms of mean pixel accuracy (MPA) and mean intersection over union (MIoU). The network achieves an increase of 11.41% in MPA and 12.14% in MIoU compared to DeepLabv3+. Ablation experiments shows that all the modifications are beneficial. Conclusion: An improved network is designed for segmenting tooth surface cracks with good overall performance and robustness, which may hold significant potential in computer-aided diagnosis of cracked teeth.

The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is part of a network implicated in the development of self-regulation and whose connectivity changes dramatically in development. In previous studies we showed that 3 h of mental training, based on traditional Chinese medicine (integrative body-mind training, IBMT), increases ACC activity and improves self-regulation. However, it is not known whether changes in white matter connectivity can result from small amounts of mental training. We here report that 11 h of IBMT increases fractional anisotropy (FA), an index indicating the integrity and efficiency of white matter in the corona radiata, an important white-matter tract connecting the ACC to other structures. Thus IBMT could provide a means for improving self-regulation and perhaps reducing or preventing various mental disorders.

The high mechanical strength, large specific surface area, favorable biocompatibility, and degradability of nanocellulose (CNC) enable it to be a potential alternative to petroleum-based materials. However, the traditional preparation of CNCs requires a large amount of strong acid, which poses a serious challenge to equipment maintenance, waste liquid recycling, and economics. In this study, a solid and easily recoverable zirconium phosphate (ZrP) was used to assist in the phosphoric acid co-catalyzed hydrolysis of lignocellulose for extracting CNCs. Due to the presence of acidic phosphate groups, ZrP has a strong active center with a high catalytic activity. With the assistance of ZrP, the amount of phosphoric acid used in the reaction is significantly reduced, improving the equipment's durability and economic efficiency. The effects of the process conditions investigated were the phosphate acid concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time on the yield of CNCs. The Box-Behnken design (BBD) method from the response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to investigate and optimize the preparation conditions. The optimized pre-treatment conditions were 49.27% phosphoric acid concentration, 65.38 °C reaction temperature, and 5 h reaction time with a maximal cellulose yield (48.33%). The obtained CNCs show a granular shape with a length of 40~50 nm and a diameter of 20~30 nm, while its high zeta potential (-24.5 mV) make CNCs present a stable dispersion in aqueous media. Moreover, CNCs have a high crystallinity of 78.70% within the crystal type of cellulose Ⅰ. As such, this study may pioneer the horizon for developing a green method for the efficient preparation of CNC, and it is of great significance for CNCs practical production process.

Intelligent hydrogel has great application potentials in flexible sensing and artificial intelligence devices due to its intrinsic characteristics. However, developing an intelligent hydrogel with favorable properties including high strength, superior toughness, excellent conductivity and ionic sensing via a facile route is still a challenge. Herein, inspired by biologically chelating interactions of phytic acid (PA) in plants, a plant-inspired versatile intelligent nanocomposite hydrogel was readily fabricated by incorporating PA into the interface of fluorescent cellulose nanocrystals (F-CNC). Under PA "molecular bridge", the hydrogel simultaneously realized superflexibility (1000 %), high strength, superb self-healing ability, remarkable fluorescence and chloride ion sensibility as well as good ionic conductivity (2.4 S/m). The hydrogel could be assembled as a flexible sensor for real-time monitoring of human motion with excellent sensitivity and stability since high sensitivity toward both strain and pressure. F-CNC acted as a functional trigger could confer the hydrogel good fluorescence and high sensitivity toward chloride ion. This design confirms the synergy of F-CNC in boosting strength, ionic sensing, and ionic conductivity, addressing a long-standing dilemma among strength, stretchability, and sensitivity for intelligent hydrogel. The one-step incorporating tactic under mild ambient conditions may open an innovative avenue for the construction of intelligent hydrogel with novel properties.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Lumbar ligamentum flavum cyst is a rare spinal condition that can cause significant morbidity and neurological deficits. Traditional surgical treatment involves open surgery, which can be associated with prolonged recovery time and significant morbidity. In recent years, endoscopic treatment of lumbar ligamentum flavum cyst has emerged as a minimally invasive and effective alternative to open surgery, but only a few cases have been reported in the literature. This paper describes our experience with endoscopic resection of an L4/5 ligamentum flavum cyst through an interlaminar approach and reviews the literature on the treatment of lumbar ligamentum flavum cyst. METHODS: An 87-year-old man presented with lameness in the left leg, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed nerve compression by a ligamentum flavum cyst at the L4/5 intervertebral plane. The patient underwent endoscopic resection of the ligamentum flavum cyst through a left interlaminar approach with the facet joint preserved. The present study was approved by the Ethics Committee of our hospital. The datasets used and/or analyzed during the current study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request. Text regarding patient consent is not applicable for this case. RESULTS: Postoperative clinical results improved significantly, and postoperative MRI showed complete cyst resection. CONCLUSION: Total endoscopic resection via an interlaminar approach provides a new minimally invasive approach for the surgical treatment of lumbar ligamentum flavum cyst, which can be used as a reference by clinicians.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of percutaneous double-segment lengthened sacroiliac screws internal fixation assisted by three-dimensional (3D) navigation technology in treatment of Denis type Ⅱ and Ⅲ sacral fractures. Methods: A clinical data of 45 patients with the Denis type Ⅱ and Ⅲ sacral fractures admitted between January 2017 and May 2020 was retrospectively analyzed. There were 31 males and 14 females, with an average age of 48.3 years (range, 30-65 years). The pelvic fractures were all high energy injuries. According to the Tile classification standard, there were 24 cases of type C1, 16 cases of type C2, and 5 cases of type C3. The sacral fractures were classified as Denis type Ⅱ in 31 cases and type Ⅲ in 14 cases. The interval between injury and operation was 5-12 days (mean, 7.5 days). The lengthened sacroiliac screws were implanted in S 1 and S 2 segments respectively under the assistance of 3D navigation technology. The implantation time of each screw, the intraoperative X-ray exposure time, and the occurrence of surgical complications were recorded. After operation, the imaging reexamination was used to evaluate the screw position according to Gras standard and the reduction quality of sacral fractures according to Matta standard. At last follow-up, the pelvic function was scored with Majeed scoring standard. Results: The 101 lengthened sacroiliac screws were implanted with the assisting of 3D navigation technology. The implantation time of each screw was 37.3 minutes on average (range, 30-45 minutes), and the X-ray exposure time was 46.2 seconds on average (range, 40-55 seconds). All patients had no neurovascular or organ injury. All incisions healed by first intention. The quality of fracture reduction was evaluated according to Matta standard as excellent in 22 cases, good in 18 cases, and fair in 5 cases, and the excellent and good rate was 88.89%. The screw position was evaluated according to Gras standard as excellent in 77 screws, good in 22 screws, and poor in 2 screws, and the excellent and good rate was 98.02%. All patients were followed up 12-24 months (mean, 14.6 months). All fractures healed and the healing time was 12-16 weeks (mean, 13.5 weeks). Pelvic function was evaluated according to Majeed scoring standard as excellent in 27 cases, good in 16 cases, fair in 2 cases, and the excellent and good rate was 95.56%. Conclusion: Percutaneous double-segment lengthened sacroiliac screws internal fixation for the treatment of Denis type Ⅱ and Ⅲ sacral fractures is minimally invasive and effective. With the assistance of 3D navigation technology, the screw implantation is accurate and safe.

Five days of integrative body-mind training (IBMT) improves attention and self-regulation in comparison with the same amount of relaxation training. This paper explores the underlying mechanisms of this finding. We measured the physiological and brain changes at rest before, during, and after 5 days of IBMT and relaxation training. During and after training, the IBMT group showed significantly better physiological reactions in heart rate, respiratory amplitude and rate, and skin conductance response (SCR) than the relaxation control. Differences in heart rate variability (HRV) and EEG power suggested greater involvement of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in the IBMT group during and after training. Imaging data demonstrated stronger subgenual and adjacent ventral anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) activity in the IBMT group. Frontal midline ACC theta was correlated with high-frequency HRV, suggesting control by the ACC over parasympathetic activity. These results indicate that after 5 days of training, the IBMT group shows better regulation of the ANS by a ventral midfrontal brain system than does the relaxation group. This changed state probably reflects training in the coordination of body and mind given in the IBMT but not in the control group. These results could be useful in the design of further specific interventions.

The high strength, high specific surface area, excellent biocompatibility, and degradability of nanocellulose (NCC) make it a potential reinforcing phase for composite materials. However, the polyhydroxyl property of NCC renders it prone to self-aggregation and it has weak interfacial compatibility with non-polar substrates, limiting its enhancement performance for composite materials. Therefore, based on the high reactivity of NCC, the chemical modification of NCC to introduce functional groups is the basis for effectively reducing its self-aggregation, improving its interfacial compatibility with the polymer matrix, and creating nanocellulose-based functional materials. The existing functional modifications of NCC have limitations; they require cumbersome steps, generate low yields, and are environmentally unfriendly. Herein, ureido-pyrimidinone (UPy) was introduced to NCC through a sustainable and high-efficiency avenue formed by the mechanochemical synergy of microwaves and ultrasonication. The obtained UPy-modified nanocellulose (NCC-UPy) exhibited a rod-like shape, with a length of 200−300 nm and a width of 20−30 nm, which presented oriented and stable dispersion in an aqueous medium, and the zeta potential reached −40 mV. Moreover, NCC-UPy had good thermostability (>350 °C) and high crystallinity (82.5%) within the crystal type of cellulose I. Using the as-prepared NCC-UPy as a molecular bridge, it was organically combined with epoxy resin through multiple hydrogen bonds to construct a nanocomposite membrane with superior mechanical strength and thermal stability. The results revealed that NCC-UPy dispersed uniformly in the epoxy matrix without aggregating and that the interfacial compatibility was good, leading to an 87% increase in the tensile strength of the formed nanocomposite membrane when 0.5 wt.% NCC-UPy was loaded. It was proved that NCC-UPy had remarkable reinforcing potential and effective stress transfer capacity for composites. Consequently, this study may open the door to the development of a one-pot green approach for undertaking the functional modification of NCC, and it is of great significance for the development of NCC-based nanocomposites.

Fluorescent cellulose nanofibers (FCNFs), with a high yield, were prepared via one-pot hydrolysis and the grafting reaction of cellulose with thiazolipyridine carboxylic acid (TPCA). The hydrolysis and Fischer esterification of cellulose were conducted under microwave-hydrothermal conditions; meanwhile, TPCA formation was induced by the dehydration reaction between L-cysteine and citric acid. The effects of the reaction temperature and reaction time on the yield and performance of FCNF were investigated. The morphology and size, surface chemical property, crystal structure, thermostability, and fluorescent performance of FCNF were characterized. The results revealed that the yield of FCNF reached 73.2% under a microwave power of 500 W, reaction temperature of 110 °C, and reaction time of 5 h. The FCNF obtained presents a short rod-like morphology. The crystallinity of the FCNFs is 80%, and their thermal stability did not decline significantly. Additionally, the fluorescent performance of the FCNFs is excellent, which results in them having good sensitivity to chloride ions. The good fluorescent performance and significant responsiveness to chloride ions of FCNFs lead to them having broad prospects in bio-labeling, biosensing, information storage, chloride ion detection, among others.

Based on the self-passivation function of chitosan, an efficient, and green synthesis strategy was applied to prepare chitosan carbon dots (CDs). The quantum yield of carbon dots reached 35% under the conditions of hydrothermal temperature of 200 °C, hydrothermal time of 5 h, and chitosan concentration of 2%. Moreover, the obtained carbon dots had high selectivity and sensitivity to Fe3+. Based on the Schiff base reaction between the aldehyde groups of dialdehyde cellulose nanofibrils (DNF) and the amino groups of CDs, a chemically cross-linked, novel, fluorescent composite film, with high transparency and high strength, was created using one-pot processing. Knowing that the fluorescence effect of the composite film on Fe3+ had a linear relationship in the concentration range of 0-100 µM, a fluorescent probe can be developed for quantitative analysis and detection of Fe3+. Owing to their excellent fluorescent and mechanical properties, the fluorescent nanocomposite films have potential applications in the fields of Fe3+ detection, fluorescent labeling, and biosensing.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous uniplanar pedicle screw (PUPS) combined with injured vertebra fixation for treating thoracolumbar burst fracture and provide technique notes. STUDY DESIGN: A descriptive study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: Department of Orthopaedics, General Hospital of Central Theater Command, Wuhan, China, from February 2019 to December 2021. METHODOLOGY: Patients who had undergone PUPS internal fixation for thoracolumbar burst fracture were followed up for more than 12 months in the General Hospital of Central Theater Command, Wuhan, China. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and hospital stay were recorded. Visual analysis scale (VAS), score of low back pain, ODI (oswestry disability endex), anterior vertebral height (AVH), Cobb angle were documented before and after the operation, Also, the complications and postoperative tail shank angles (TSA) were documented. RESULTS: All 23 patients were followed up for more than 12 months without re-fracture, loosening or breakage of the screw and rod. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and hospital stay were 51.34±8.30 minutes, 75.67±16.55 minutes, and 9.86±1.96 days respectively. VAS and ODI scores after the operation were significantly lower than before (p <0.05). The AVH and Cobb angle after operation were significantly better as compared with those before the operation (p <0.05), but no statistically significant difference was found in those two values at 1 week, 3 months, and 12 months after operation (p >0.05). No statistically significant difference was found in TSA after the operation (p >0.05). CONCLUSIONS: PUPS combined with injured vertebra fixation reveals satisfactory efficacy for thoracolumbar burst fracture with well reduction of the fracture, the AVH, and Cobb angle maintenance.
