RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune diseases (ADs) present significant health challenges globally, especially among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) due to their unique developmental stages. Comprehensive analyses of their burden are limited. This study leverages the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 data to assess the global, regional, and national burden and trends of major ADs among AYAs from 1990 to 2021. METHODS: Utilizing data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2021 for individuals aged 15-39 years, we employed a direct method for age standardization to calculate estimates along with 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs) for assessing the age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR), prevalence rates (ASPR), and mortality rates (ASMR) of ADs. The diseases analyzed included rheumatoid arthritis (RA), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis (MS), type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), Asthma, and Psoriasis. Trends from 1990 to 2021 were analyzed using Joinpoint regression, providing average annual percentage changes (AAPC) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULT: In 2021, the global ASIR, ASPR, and ASMR of RA among AYAs (per 100,000 population) were 9.46 (95% UI: 5.92 to 13.54), 104.35 (77.44 to 137.84), and 0.016 (0.013 to 0.019), respectively. For IBD, the corresponding rates were 4.08 (3.07 to 5.37), 29.55 (23.00 to 37.83), and 0.10 (0.07 to 0.12). MS exhibited rates of 1.40 (0.93 to 1.93), 16.05 (12.73 to 19.75), and 0.05 (0.04 to 0.05), respectively. T1DM had rates of 6.63 (3.08 to 11.84), 245.51 (194.21 to 307.56), and 0.54 (0.47 to 0.60). Asthma demonstrated rates of 232.22 (132.11 to 361.24), 2245.51 (1671.05 to 2917.57), and 0.89 (0.77 to 1.08). Psoriasis showed rates of 55.08 (48.53 to 61.93) and 426.16 (394.12 to 460.18) for ASIR and ASPR, respectively. From 1990 to 2021, the global ASIR of RA (AAPC = 0.47, 95% CI: 0.46 to 0.49), IBD (0.22 [0.12 to 0.33]), MS (0.22 [0.19 to 0.26]), T1DM (0.83 [0.80 to 0.86]), and Psoriasis (0.33 [0.31 to 0.34]) showed increasing trends, whereas Asthma (-0.96 [-1.03 to -0.88]) showed a decreasing trend. The global ASPR of RA (0.70 [0.68 to 0.73]), MS (0.35 [0.32 to 0.37]), T1DM (0.68 [0.66 to 0.69]), and Psoriasis (0.29 [0.27 to 0.32]) also showed increasing trends, whereas IBD (-0.20 [-0.27 to -0.13]) and Asthma (-1.25 [-1.31 to -1.19]) showed decreasing trends. Notably, the estimated global ASMR of RA (-2.35 [-2.57 to -2.12]), MS (-0.63 [-0.86 to -0.41]), T1DM (-0.35 [-0.56 to -0.14]), and Asthma (-1.35 [-1.44 to -1.26]) in AYAs declined. Additionally, the burden of disease for ADs in AYAs varies considerably across continents and between 204 countries and territories. CONCLUSION: ADs among AYAs present a substantial public health burden with notable regional disparities in incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates. Understanding these patterns is essential for developing targeted public health interventions and policies to mitigate the impact of ADs in this population.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathological significance of autocrine motility factor receptor (AMFR) expression in a variety of human invasive micropapillary carcinomas (IMPC). AMFR expression was compared in 111 samples of a variety of human IMPCs which had intrinsic non-micropapillary components and with 26 cases of control pulmonary adenocarcinoma (CPA, carcinoma without an IMPC component) by immunohistochemistry (IHC). In the 137 cases analysed, AMFR expression was significantly elevated in the IMPC components compared to the non-IMPC components (p = .005) and normal tissues (p < .001). AMFR expression was also higher in the IMPC samples compared to their intrinsic non-IMPC components (p = .0234). Between the 69 cases of lung IMPC and 26 cases of CPA, AMFR expression was notably higher in the IMPC components than in the CPA components (p = .0455). However, there was no significant difference between the non-IMPC components in the lung and the CPA components (p = .4584). Moreover, in breast cancer, elevated AMFR expression was not significantly correlated with mixed type or pure type IMPC (p = .5969) or with age, gender, T stage, or lymph node metastasis (LNM). Between IMPC and CPA of the lung, there was no statistical significance in age, T stage, and LNM, where AMFR expression was higher in IMPC (p = .0071). Thus this study demonstrated that AMFR was overexpressed in a variety of human IMPC components compared with non-micropapillary components. This suggests that AMFR expression is a potential new prognostic indicator for different types of human IMPC, which might thus be a new therapeutic target.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Shidu parents refer to the couple who have lost their only child and have not given birth or adopted another child in China. The number of Shidu parents is increasing annually. The aim of this research was to examine the mediating role of anxiety and the moderating role of social support between perceived stress and prolonged grief disorder (PGD) among Chinese Shidu parents. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 505 participants who completed a questionnaire including the Prolonged Grief Questionnair-3 (PG-13), the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the Duke-UNC Functional Social Support Questionnaire (FSSQ). SPSS PROCESS macro was employed to examine the mediating role of anxiety and the moderating role of social support. RESULTS: The mediation analysis showed anxiety partially mediated the link between perceived stress and PGD, and the proportion of mediation of anxiety was 39.22%. The moderated mediation analysis revealed the second stage of mediating effects of anxiety on the link between perceived stress and PGD was moderated by social support. Specifically, compared with Shidu parents with higher social support, the association between anxiety and PGD was closer for those with lower social support. CONCLUSIONS: The moderated mediation model can broaden our understanding of how and when perceived stress, anxiety and social support work together to affect PGD. The interventions aimed at improving mental health of Chinese Shidu parents need to work on reducing stress and enhancing social support.

RESUMO

A series of vinyl versatate (VV10) modified poly(vinyl acetate) adhesive (HVPVAc) were prepared using soap-free emulsion polymerization. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy was used to characterize the structure of the modified poly(vinyl acetate) latex. The effect of the VV10 content on particle size, viscosity, mechanical properties, and T-peel strength of the modified poly(vinyl acetate) was determined. No absorption peak at 1675-1500 cm-1 in the ATR-FTIR spectrum was observed as a result of the carbon-carbon double bond reacting completely. With the occurrence of -C-O-C and the disappearance of the carbon-carbon double bond in the FTIR spectrum, a more complex structure formed. The structure improves the mechanical properties. Increasing the VV10 content resulted in an increase in particle size from 63 nm to 221 nm, a steady increase in the viscosity of the HVPVAc latex, an increase in tensile strength from 7 MPa to 13.4 MPa, and a decrease in breaking elongation from 1310% to 1004%. As the VV10 content increased from 0 to 30% by weight, the T-peel strength of the HVPVAc adhesive increased from 8.35 N/mm to 18.97 N/mm, indicating improved adhesive performance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are many one-child families in China due to the one-child policy. Parents who have lost their only child and are unable to conceive another child or unwilling to adopt a child are called Shidu parents in China. The death of an only child puts Shidu parents at the risk of mental illness and even suicide. Few studies have explored the influence of cultural beliefs and prolonged grief disorder on suicide ideation. METHODS: This study involved rural Shidu parents from Sujiatun district of Shenyang, China. Questionnaires consisted of the Prolonged Grief questionnaire - 13 (PG-13), the Culture-related Grief Beliefs of Shidu Parents Questionnaire (CBSQ), one question from the baseline National Comorbidity Survey (NCS) to measure suicide ideation and demographic and bereavement-related information. Bivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore associated factors of suicide ideation. RESULTS: Sixty-nine (28.8%) of the 240 Shidu parents reported having suicide ideation. Having chronic disease (OR = 5.509, p < 0.01), having religious belief (OR = 3.923, p < 0.05) and having a grandchild (OR = 2.552, p < 0.05) were associated with an increased risk of suicide ideation. Destiny belief (a subscale of CBSQ) was negatively associated with suicide ideation (OR = 0.818, p < 0.05). Prolonged grief disorder (OR = 9.280, p < 0.01) and perceived stigma (a subscale of CBSQ) (OR = 1.200, p < 0.05) was positively associated with suicide ideation after adjusting for controlling variables. CONCLUSIONS: Suicide ideation is prevalent in rural Shidu parents. Reducing perceived stigma and alleviating prolonged grief disorder may decrease the risk of suicide among rural Shidu parents.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of syphilis is very high in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive men who have sex with men (MSM), and effective interventions are needed to educate HIV-positive individuals about behavioral and biological risk factors. Therefore, we developed a standard case management process and conducted a randomized controlled study to investigate the impact on risky sexual behaviors and syphilis in HIV-positive MSM. METHODS: Men who have sex with men (n = 220) were enrolled and randomized to the case management intervention group and the control group between May 2016 and January 2017. The control group received routine HIV-related care. In addition to routine HIV-related care, those in the intervention group regularly received extended services from a well-trained case manager. Epidemiological information was collected during the baseline face-to-face interviews by a trained investigator. Serological tests for syphilis and assessments of risky sexual behaviors were performed at baseline and 6 and 12 months after the initiation of treatment. RESULTS: The syphilis incidence rates in the intervention and control groups were 11.3 per 100 person-years and 20.6 per 100 person-years, respectively. The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio (95% confidence inter) for syphilis in case management group was 0.34 (0.14-0.87). The percentages of participants who resumed risky sexual behaviors in both groups were significantly reduced (P < 0.05) but did not significantly differ between the 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS: A case management intervention reduced the incidence of syphilis in HIV-positive MSM. We should further increase the content of case management on the basis of providing routine HIV-related care to those people.

RESUMO

The present study was to evaluate the potential effectiveness of low-molecular-weight chitosan-coated baicalin methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(d,l-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (mPEG-PLGA) nanoparticles (BA LCH NPs) for the treatment of cataract. mPEG-PLGA NPs were optimized by the Box-Behnken design and the central composite design based on the encapsulation efficiency and drug loading. Then, the BA LCH NPs were characterized based on morphology, particle size, and zeta potentials. The analytical data of differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy depicted the drug excipient compatibility. In vitro, we evaluated cell viability, cellular uptake, potential ocular irritation, transcorneal permeability, and the precorneal retention of BA LCH NPs. In vivo, the chronic selenium cataract model was selected to assess the therapeutic effect of BA LCH NPs. The size of BA LCH NPs was within the range from 148 to 219 nm and the zeta potential was 19-25 mV. Cellular uptake results showed that the fluorescence intensity of the preparations in each group increased with time, and the fluorescence intensity of the LCH NP group was significantly higher than that of the solution group. The optimized BA LCH NPs improved precorneal residence time without causing eye irritation and also showed a sustained release of BA through the cornea for effective management of cataract. Also, fluorescence tracking on the rabbit cornea showed increased corneal retention of the LCH NPs. In addition, the results of therapeutic efficacy demonstrated that BA LCH NPs can significantly reduce the content of malondialdehyde and enhanced the activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase, which was comparable to positive control and better than the BA solution group. Thus, it can be inferred that the BA LCH NPs are a promising drug delivery system for enhancing the ophthalmic administration of BA to the posterior segment of the eye and improving cataract symptoms.

RESUMO

The literature has shown that mobile phone addiction is an important risk factor for depression. However, the internal mechanisms of mobile phone addiction leading to depression are still not clear. This study examined the mediating role of sleep quality and moderating role of peer relationships in the association between mobile phone addiction and depression. A sample of 450 Chinese medical students were recruited to complete measures of mobile phone addiction, depression, sleep quality and peer relationships. In this study, SPSS 25.0 and macro PROCESS were used to conduct statistical analysis on the collected data. The results showed that sleep quality partially mediated the association between mobile phone addiction and depression. Moreover, the effect of sleep quality on depression was moderated by peer relationships. The present study can advance our understanding of how and when mobile phone addiction leads to depression. Limitations and implications of this study are discussed.

RESUMO

Developing an efficient fracturing fluid system is an enduring hot topic in the petrochemical industries, especially regarding the exploitation of limited oil. Biopolymers, especially polysaccharides (e.g., konjac gum, guar gum), are widely applied as fracturing fluids in fracturing as a result of their advantages. Herein, we propose an easy method of modifying konjac gum (KGM) using isopropanol, sodium hydroxide, and chloroacetic acid to obtain modified konjac glum (MKGM). The MKGM and KGM gels were also obtained by using the self-prepared organic titanium high-temperature stabilizer and organic borate cross-linker. The prepared MKGM was characterized by multiscale techniques, including attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and rheology properties. The ATR-FTIR results showed that the etherification modification reaction occurred as designed. The XRD results showed that the regularity of KGM was destroyed after modification. The TGA and DSC results showed that the thermal stability improved. Rheology measurements illustrated that the temperature and shear resistance of MKGM were better than those of KGM. The MKGM gel could be applied in fracturing fluid systems at a lower frequency through viscoelastic measurements.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: We aimed to describe the epidemiological, virological, and serological features of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV; PLWH). METHODS: This population-based cohort study identified all COVID-19 cases among all PLWH in Wuhan, China, by 16 April 2020. The epidemiological, virological, and serological features were analyzed based on the demographic data, temporal profile of nucleic acid test for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) during the disease, and SARS-CoV-2-specific immunoglobin (Ig) M and G after recovery. RESULTS: From 1 January to 16 April 2020, 35 of 6001 PLWH experienced COVID-19, with a cumulative incidence of COVID-19 of 0.58% (95% confidence interval [CI], .42-.81%). Among the COVID-19 cases, 15 (42.86) had severe illness, with 2 deaths. The incidence, case-severity, and case-fatality rates of COVID-19 in PLWH were comparable to those in the entire population in Wuhan. There were 197 PLWH who had discontinued combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), 4 of whom experienced COVID-19. Risk factors for COVID-19 were age ≥50 years old and cART discontinuation. The median duration of SARS-CoV-2 viral shedding among confirmed COVID-19 cases in PLWH was 30 days (interquartile range, 20-46). Cases with high HIV viral loads (≥20 copies/mL) had lower IgM and IgG levels than those with low HIV viral loads (<20 copies/ml; median signal value divided by the cutoff value [S/CO] for IgM, 0.03 vs 0.11, respectively [P < .001]; median S/CO for IgG, 10.16 vs 17.04, respectively [P = .069]). CONCLUSIONS: Efforts are needed to maintain the persistent supply of antiretroviral treatment to elderly PLWH aged 50 years or above during the COVID-19 epidemic. The coinfection of HIV and SARS-CoV-2 might change the progression and prognosis of COVID-19 patients in PLWH.

RESUMO

To evaluate the clinicopathologic features and survival analysis of NUCKS1 expression in human lung adenocarcinoma (LA), we used bioinformatic methods to obtain NUCKS1 gene status and correlated it with prognosis in LA. We compared NUCKS1 expression in 70 samples of LA with intrinsically normal lung alveoli (NLA) by immunohistochemistry, and analyzed their clinicopathologic features. NUCKS1 was overexpressed in LA components(LACs) relative to NLA, and was significantly correlated to patient with 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival(OS). Elevated NUCKS1 expression in LACs was shown to be an independent prognostic indicator for OS and a biomarker in LA.

RESUMO

By virtue of screening, purification, and properties characterization, this study captures a new pH- and temperature-stable laccase, designated Galacc-F, from Ganoderma australe for dye bioremediating applications. The enzyme was purified to homogeneity by salt precipitation, ionic exchange, and size exclusion chromatography with a final specific activity of 22.214 U mg-1, yielding a purification fold of 23.989 and recovery of 38.44%. Its molecular weight was estimated to be 48.0 kDa by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, zymography, Sephadex G-100 column, and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, which confirmed its monomeric nature. Galacc-F exhibited high levels of activity and stability over wide ranges of pH (5.0-8.0) and temperature (10-60 °C), which are highly valuable properties in industrial processes. Broad substrate specificity was observed, wherein a better affinity was found for 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) with a low value of Km (164.137 µM) and higher kcat/Km ratio (1.663 s-1 µM-1). Activity was stimulated by Cu2+ and ß-mercaptoethanol but inhibited by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, diethylpyrocarbonate, iodoacetic acid, phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, and Hg2+, indicating that Galacc-F is a metalloprotease containing a typical histidine-cysteine-serine catalytic triad. It had high tolerance to surfactants, oxidants, and salts. Additionally, a fabricated protocol for native Galacc-F immobilization onto Fe3O4@Chitosan composite nanoparticles using glutaraldehyde as a crosslinker was developed. Most importantly, the enzyme was determined to be ideal for use in efficient treatment of dye effluents as compared with the laccases requiring redox mediators.

RESUMO

A bifunctional catalyst comprising CuCl2 /Al2 O3 and nitrogen-doped carbon was developed for an efficient one-pot ethylene oxychlorination process to produce vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) up to 76 % yield at 250 °C and under ambient pressure, which is higher than the conventional industrial two-step process (≈50 %) in a single pass. In the second bed, active sites containing N-functional groups on the metal-free N-doped carbon catalyzed both ethylene oxychlorination and ethylene dichloride (EDC) dehydrochlorination under the mild conditions. Benefitting from the bifunctionality of the N-doped carbon, VCM formation was intensified by the surface Cl*-looping of EDC dehydrochlorination and ethylene oxychlorination. Both reactions were enhanced by in situ consumption of surface Cl* by oxychlorination, in which Cl* was generated by EDC dehydrochlorination. This work offers a promising alternative pathway to VCM production via ethylene oxychlorination at mild conditions through a single pass reactor.

RESUMO

Background: Hypertension is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases among the older adult population in China and older adults with hypertension are more susceptible to mental health problems. This study aimed to explore the network structure of depression and anxiety, and their association with life satisfaction (LS) in older adults with hypertension. Methods: A total of 4,993 hypertensive individuals aged 60 and above were selected from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS 2017-2018). The design of the CLHLS study was approved by the Campus Institutional Review Board of Duke University (Pro00062871) and the Biomedical Ethics Committee of Peking University (IRB00001052-13,074). The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale-10 (CESD-10) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7) were used to assess depressive and anxiety symptoms. Central and bridge symptoms were identified via "Expected Influence" and "Bridge Expected Influence", respectively. Network stability was assessed using the case-dropping bootstrap technique. Results: Network analysis identified CESD3 (Feeling blue/depressed), GAD4 (Trouble relaxing), and GAD2 (Uncontrollable worry) as the most influential central symptoms in the network of depression and anxiety. Concurrently, GAD1 (Nervousness or anxiety), CESD10 (Sleep disturbances), and CESD1 (Feeling bothered) stand as critical bridge symptoms between depression and anxiety disorders. Moreover, CESD7 (Lack of happiness) exhibited the strongest negative correlation with LS in Chinese hypertensive older adults. Conclusion: This exploratory study represents the first investigation to examine the mutual relationship between depressive and anxiety symptoms among Chinese hypertensive older adults. Interventions addressing targeting bridge symptoms have the potential to alleviate depressive and anxiety symptoms. Furthermore, improving happiness, hope, and sleep quality in this population may mitigate the adverse effects of depression and anxiety on LS.

RESUMO

Network analysis provides a novel approach to discovering associations between mental disorders at the symptom level. This study aimed to examine the characteristics of the network of depression and anxiety symptoms and their associations with mobile phone addiction (MPA) among Chinese medical students during the late stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 553 medical students were included. Depression and anxiety symptoms and MPA were measured by the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), and the Mobile Phone Addiction Index (MPAI), respectively. Central and bridge symptoms were identified with centrality indices and bridge centrality indices. Network stability was examined using the case-dropping procedure. "Uncontrollable worry", "restlessness" and "nervousness" were the central symptoms in the depression and anxiety network. "Restlessness" and "motor" were the most central bridge symptoms linking depression and anxiety. "Concentration", "anhedonia" and "sleep" were most strongly associated with MPA. "Uncontrollable worry", "restlessness", "nervousness," and "motor" may be the symptoms for interventions to target in medical students with comorbid depression and anxiety. From a network perspective, depressive symptoms may be more important than anxiety symptoms in medical students with MPA.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore the effect of particulate matter exposure on renal function in people with HIV/AIDS (PWHA). METHODS: A total of 37 739 repeated measurements were conducted on eGFR levels, serum creatinine (Scr), and the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index in 6958 PWHAs. The relationship between 1 and 28 day moving averages of particulate matter concentrations with Scr and eGFR was assessed using linear mixed-effects models. Modified Poisson regression models were employed to assess the associations of cumulative particulate matter exposure with the incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Mediation analyses were used to examine the role of TyG index. RESULTS: Short-term exposure to particulate matter was related to reduced renal function. The strongest associations between exposure to particulate matter (PM) 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 10 and percentage changes in eGFR were observed at 7-day moving average exposure windows, with a respective decrease of 0.697% (-1.008%, -0.386%), 0.429% (-0.637%, -0.220%), and 0.373% (-0.581%, -0.164%) per IQR increment. Long-term exposure to PM 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 10 was positively linked with the incidence of CKD, with each IQR increment corresponding to fully adjusted RRs (95% CIs) of 1.631 (1.446-1.839), 1.599 (1.431-1.787), and 1.903 (1.665-2.175), respectively. TyG index-mediated 8.87, 8.88, and 7.58% of the relationship between cumulative exposure to PM 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 10 and increased risk of CKD, respectively. CONCLUSION: Exposure to particulate matter among PWHAs is linked to reduced renal function, potentially contributing to increased CKD incidence, where the TyG index might serve as a partial mediator.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Evidence on the association between particulate matter (PM) exposure and prognosis in people living with HIV/AIDS (PWHA) is scarce. We aim to investigate the associations of long-term exposure to PM with AIDS-related deaths and complications. METHODS: We collected follow-up information on 7444 PWHAs from 2000 to 2021 from the HIV/AIDS Comprehensive Response Information Management System of the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The AIDS-related deaths and complications were assessed by physicians every 3 to 6 months, and the monthly average PM concentrations for each PWHA were extracted from the China High Air Pollutants dataset. We employed time-varying Cox regression models to evaluate the associations of the average cumulative PM exposure concentrations with AIDS-related deaths and complications, as well as the mediating effects of AIDS-related complications in PM-induced AIDS-related deaths. RESULTS: For each 1 µg/m3 increase in PM1, PM2.5, and PM10, the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for AIDS-related deaths were 1.021 (1.009, 1.033), 1.012 (1.005, 1.020), and 1.010 (1.005, 1.015), respectively; and the HRs for AIDS-related complications were 1.049 (1.034, 1.064), 1.029 (1.020, 1.038), and 1.031 (1.024, 1.037), respectively. AIDS-related complications mediated 18.38 % and 18.68 % of the association of exposure to PM1 and PM2.5 with AIDS-related deaths, respectively. The association of PM exposure with AIDS-related deaths was more significant in older PWHA. Meanwhile, the association between PM exposure and AIDS-related complications was stronger in PWHA with a BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2. CONCLUSION: Long-term exposure to PM is positively associated with AIDS-related deaths and complications, and AIDS-related complications have mediating effects in PM-induced AIDS-related deaths. Our evidence emphasizes that enhanced protection against PM exposure for PWHAs is an additional mitigation strategy to reduce AIDS-related deaths and complications.

RESUMO

Fine constructing the chemical environment of the central metal is vital in developing efficient single-atom catalysts (SACs). Herein, the atomically dispersed Cu on the N-doped carbon is modulated by introducing CuP moiety to CuNC SAC. Through fine-tuning with another heteroatom P, the Cu SAC shows the superior performance of ethylene oxychlorination. The Cu site activity of Cu-NPC is four times higher than the P-free Cu-NC catalyst and 25 times higher than the Ce-promoted CuCl2 /Al2 O3 catalyst in the long-term test (>200 h). The selectivity of ethylene dichloride can be splendidly kept at ≈99%. Combined experimental and simulation studies provide a theoretical framework for the coordination of Cu, N, and P in the complex active center and its role in effectively catalyzing ethylene oxychlorination. It integrates the oxidation and chlorination reactions with superior catalytic performance and unrivaled ability of corrosive-HCl resistance. The concept of fine constructing with another heteroatom is anticipated to provide with inspiration for rational catalyst design and expand the applications of carbon-based SACs in heterogeneous catalysis.

RESUMO

Studies investigating the relationship between ambient air pollutants and liver function are scarce. Our objective was to examine the associations of acute exposure to PM2.5 and O3 with levels of hepatic enzymes in people living with HIV/AIDS (PWHA). Our study involved 163 PWHA, who were evaluated for serum hepatic enzymes up to four times within a year. We extracted daily average concentrations of PM2.5, PM2.5 components, and O3 for each participant, based on their residential address, using the Tracking of Air Pollution in China database. Linear mixed-effect models were utilized to assess the associations of acute exposure to PM2.5 and O3 with hepatic enzymes. Weighted quantile sum regression models were employed to identify the major constituents of PM2.5 that affect hepatic enzymes. The percent change of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) concentration was positively correlated with a 10 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5, ranging from 1.92 (95% CI: 3.13 to 4.38) to 6.09 (95% CI: 9.25 to 12.38), with the largest effect observed at lag06. Additionally, acute O3 exposure was related to increased levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), AST, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) concentrations. Co-exposure to high levels of PM2.5 and O3 had an antagonistic effect on the elevation of AST. Further analysis revealed that SO42- and BC were major contributors to elevated AST concentration due to PM2.5 constituents. A stronger association was found between O3 exposure and ALT concentration in female PWHA. Our study found that short-term exposure to PM2.5 and O3 was associated with increased levels of hepatic enzymes, indicating that PM2.5 and O3 exposure may contribute to hepatocellular injury in PWHA. Our study also found that PWHA may be more vulnerable to air pollution than the general population. These findings highlight the relationship between air pollutants and liver function in PWHA, providing a scientific basis for the implementation of measures to protect susceptible populations from the adverse effects of air pollution. A reduction in the burning of fossil fuels and reduced exposure to air pollutants may be effective hazard reduction approaches.

RESUMO

Studies on associations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) with immunity in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) were absent. We aimed to explore whether changes of immune biomarkers were associated with short-term exposure to PM2.5 in PLWHA. Based on a panel study in Wuhan, we selected 163 PLWHA as participants with up to 4 repeated visits from March 2020 to January 2021. Immune biomarkers, including CD4+T cell count, CD8+T cell count, HIV viral load (VL) and CD4+T/CD8+T ratio were tested for all participants at each visit. Residential exposures of PM2.5 and PM2.5 constituents for each participant were assessed using spatial-temporal models. Linear mixed-effect models and general linear mixed models were applied to evaluate the associations between PM2.5 and immune biomarkers. To estimate the combined effect of PM2.5 constituents, weighted quantile sum regression and Bayesian kernel machine regression were employed. Each 10 µg/m3 increase of 7-day average PM2.5 concentrations was associated with an 8.75 cells/mm3 (95%CI: -15.55, -1.98) decrease in CD4+T cell count and a 92% (OR: 1.92, 95%CI: 1.43, 2.58) increased odds ratio of detectable HIV VL. However, the odds ratio of inverted CD4+T/CD8+T was only positively associated with PM2.5 concentrations at lag2 day (OR:1.27, 95%CI:1.02, 1.57). CD4+T may be a potential mediator between PM2.5 and detectable HIV VL with 3.83% mediated proportion. Besides, the combined effect of PM2.5 chemical constituents indicated that NO3- and SO42- were the main constituents in reducing CD4+T cell count and increasing odds ratio of detectable HIV VL. Our finding revealed that short-term exposure to PM2.5 was negatively associated with CD4+T cell count but positively related to the odds ratio of detectable HIV VL in PLWHA. This research may provide new evidence in associations between PM2.5 and immune biomarkers as well as improving prognosis of PLWHA.
