RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to harmonize the criteria for the Bhattacharya indirect method Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet for reference intervals calculation to reduce between-user variability and use these criteria to calculate and evaluate reference intervals for eight analytes in two different years. METHODS: Anonymized laboratory test results from outpatients were extracted from January 1st 2018 to December 31st 2019. To assure data quality, we examined the monthly results from an external quality control program. Reference intervals were determined by the Bhattacharya method with the St Vincent's hospital Spreadsheet firstly using original criteria and then using additional harmonized criteria defined in this study. Consensus reference intervals using the additional harmonized criteria were calculated as the mean of four users' lower and upper reference interval results. To further test the operation criteria and robustness of the obtained reference intervals, an external user validated the Spreadsheet procedure. RESULTS: The extracted test results for all selected laboratory tests fulfilled the quality criteria and were included in the present study. Differences between users in calculated reference intervals were frequent when using the Spreadsheet. Therefore, additional criteria for the Spreadsheet were proposed and applied by independent users, such as: to set central bin as the mean of all the data, bin size as small as possible, at least three consecutive bins and a high proportion of bins within the curve. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed criteria contributed to the harmonization of reference interval calculation between users of the Bhattacharya indirect method Spreadsheet.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: One of the procedures that has become very popular thanks to the advantages of minimally invasive approach is the laparoscopic treatment of inguinocrural hernias. As a disadvantage, it would imply a longer learning curve when compared to the conventional approach. There is no consensus about the number of procedures required to dominate this surgical technique, since according to bibliography it ranges from 20 to 240. METHODS: We analyzed and compared the progress of 18 third year surgical residents while they were introducing into laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal inguinal hernioplasties between June 2013 and May 2018. RESULTS: Between June 2013 and May 2018, 1282 laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasties were performed (71 procedures per resident). Mean surgical time was for unilateral: 62.13 min (SD ± 15.54; range 30-105 min) for the first third (Q1) vs 54.61 min (SD ± 15.38; range 30-100 min) for the last third (Q3): p < 0.0001. For bilateral were: 92.59 min (SD ± 21.89; range 50-160 min) for Q1 vs 84.48 min (SD ± 20.52; range 30-130 min) for Q3: p < 0.05. Accepting an alpha error of 5% and considering an association power of 80%, there would be needed 61 cases per surgeon to achieve a significant reduction in surgical time. CONCLUSION: In a center with high-volume in TAPP and under a supervised training program, it is feasible to achieve a reduction in surgical time. Randomized studies with a larger number of cases are necessary to confirm this finding and draw more robust and objective conclusions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Despite advances in laparoscopic ventral hernia repair (LVHR) with the Intra-peritoneal onlay mesh technique (IPOM), recurrence continues to be a frequent postoperative complication. The aim of this study is to analyze the long-term recurrence rate in two series, by incorporating in IPOM technique the laparoscopic closure of the defect (IPOM plus). We also want to determine the ring size cut-off point from which the recurrence risk increases in IPOM technique and determine if the cut-off point is modified with IPOM plus technique. METHODS: A comparative retrospective study was conducted analyzing patients who underwent LVHR. They were divided into 2 groups according to the surgical technique used: IPOM or IPOM plus. We determined in each group the cut-off point where the ring size presents a greater recurrence risk by calculating the better point of sensitivity/specificity relationship of the ROC curve. RESULTS: Between 2007 and 2018, 286 patients underwent LVHR. The ROC curve for IPOM technique has shown a cut-off point of higher recurrence risk for rings larger than 63 cm2. While the ROC curve in IPOM plus group showed an increase in the cut-off point, with a higher recurrence risk in rings > 168 cm2. Overall median ring size was 30 cm2 (range 4-225; IQR 16-61). However, when comparing the ring size between techniques we found a relatively larger size in IPOM plus (p: 0.013). The recurrence rate in the IPOM group was 19.51% while in the IPOM plus group was 3.57% (p: 0.005). CONCLUSIONS: For standard LVHR with IPOM technique, the greatest recurrence risk occurs in rings larger than 63 cm2. The addition of ring closure (IPOM plus) was associated with a recurrence risk reduction, which occurs in rings larger than 168 cm2. These findings would allow expanding the indication for LVHR, using the IPOM plus technique.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: SARS-CoV-2 infection portends a broad range of outcomes, from a majority of asymptomatic cases to a lethal disease. Robust correlates of severe COVID-19 include old age, male sex, poverty, and co-morbidities such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. A precise knowledge of the molecular and biological mechanisms that may explain the association of severe disease with male sex is still lacking. Here, we analyzed the relationship of serum testosterone levels and the immune cell skewing with disease severity in male COVID-19 patients. METHODS: Biochemical and hematological parameters of admission samples in 497 hospitalized male and female COVID-19 patients, analyzed for associations with outcome and sex. Longitudinal (in-hospital course) analyses of a subcohort of 114 male patients were analyzed for associations with outcome. Longitudinal analyses of immune populations by flow cytometry in 24 male patients were studied for associations with outcome. RESULTS: We have found quantitative differences in biochemical predictors of disease outcome in male vs. female patients. Longitudinal analyses in a subcohort of male COVID-19 patients identified serum testosterone trajectories as the strongest predictor of survival (AUC of ROC = 92.8%, p < 0.0001) in these patients among all biochemical parameters studied, including single-point admission serum testosterone values. In lethal cases, longitudinal determinations of serum luteinizing hormone (LH) and androstenedione levels did not follow physiological feedback patterns. Failure to reinstate physiological testosterone levels was associated with evidence of impaired T helper differentiation and augmented circulating classical monocytes. CONCLUSIONS: Recovery or failure to reinstate testosterone levels is strongly associated with survival or death, respectively, from COVID-19 in male patients. Our data suggest an early inhibition of the central LH-androgen biosynthesis axis in a majority of patients, followed by full recovery in survivors or a peripheral failure in lethal cases. These observations are suggestive of a significant role of testosterone status in the immune responses to COVID-19 and warrant future experimental explorations of mechanistic relationships between testosterone status and SARS-CoV-2 infection outcomes, with potential prophylactic or therapeutic implications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is characterized by reduced serum levels of the AAT protein and predisposes to liver and lung disease. The characterization at structural level of novel pathogenic SERPINA1 mutants coding for circulating AAT could provide novel insights into the mechanisms of AAT misfolding. The present study aimed to provide a practical framework for the identification and analysis of new AAT mutations, combining structural simulations and clinical data. METHODS: We analysed a total of five mutations (four not previously described) in a total of six subjects presenting moderate to severe AATD: Gly95Alafs*18, Val210Glu, Asn247Ser, Pi*S + Asp341His and Pi*S + Leu383Phe + Lys394Ile. Clinical data, genotyping and phenotyping assays, structural mapping, and conformational characterization through molecular dynamic (MD) simulations were developed and combined. RESULTS: Newly discovered AAT missense variants were localized both on the interaction surface and the hydrophobic core of the protein. Distribution of mutations across the structure revealed Val210Glu at the solvent exposed s4C strand and close to the "Gate" region. Asn247Ser was located on the accessible surface, which is important for glycan attachment. On the other hand, Asp341His, Leu383Phe were mapped close to the "breach" and "shutter" regions. MD analysis revealed the reshaping of local interactions around the investigated substitutions that have varying effects on AAT conformational flexibility, hydrophobic packing, and electronic surface properties. The most severe structural changes were observed in the double- and triple-mutant (Pi*S + Asp341His and Pi*S + Leu383Phe + Lys394Ile) molecular models. The two carriers presented impaired lung function. CONCLUSIONS: The results characterize five variants, four of them previously unknown, of the SERPINA1 gene, which define new alleles contributing to the deficiency of AAT. Rare variants might be more frequent than expected, and therefore, in discordant cases, standardized screening of the S and Z alleles needs complementation with gene sequencing and structural approaches. The utility of computational modelling for providing supporting evidence of the pathogenicity of rare single nucleotide variations is discussed.

RESUMO

This study evaluated the efficacy of the COMPAS program in the short term and 6 months after its application. For the initial sample, 2047 teenagers aged 14-19 years from 14 schools in 11 Colombian cities participated; eight schools were randomly assigned to the experimental condition and six to the control group. The participants completed self-report assessments that evaluated several variables theoretically associated with protective sexual behaviors. In the short term, the experimental group showed increased knowledge about HIV and other STIs, sexual assertiveness, self-efficacy, greater behavioral intention toward condom use, and more favorable attitudes toward HIV and condom use than the control group. After 6 months, most psychological and health variables also showed a significant positive change. In conclusion, the COMPAS program is the first school-based sexuality education program that has been shown to be effective in reducing mediating and behavioral variables associated with sexual risk reduction in Colombia.

BACKGROUND: Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is considered one of the most common genetic diseases and is characterised by the misfolding and polymerisation of the alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) protein within hepatocytes. The relevance of circulating polymers (CP) of AAT in the pathogenesis of lung and liver disease is not completely understood. Therefore, the main objective of our study was to determine whether there is an association between the levels of CP of AAT and the severity of lung and liver disease. METHOD: This was a cross-sectional study in patients with different phenotypes of AATD and controls. To quantify CP, a sandwich ELISA was performed using the 2C1 monoclonal antibody against AAT polymers. Sociodemographic data, clinical characteristics, and liver and lung parameters were collected. RESULTS: A cohort of 70 patients was recruited: 32 Pi*ZZ (11 on augmentation therapy); 29 Z-heterozygous; 9 with other genotypes. CP were compared with a control group of 47 individuals (35 Pi*MM and 12 Pi*MS). ZZ patients had the highest concentrations of CP (p < 0.001) followed by Z heterozygous. The control group and patients with Pi*SS and Pi*SI had the lowest CP concentrations. Pi*ZZ also had higher levels of liver stiffness measurements (LSM) than the remaining AATD patients. Among patients with one or two Z alleles, two patients with lung and liver impairment showed the highest concentrations of CP (47.5 µg/mL), followed by those with only liver abnormality (n = 6, CP = 34 µg/mL), only lung (n = 18, CP = 26.5 µg/mL) and no abnormalities (n = 23, CP = 14.3 µg/mL). Differences were highly significant (p = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: Non-augmented Pi*ZZ and Z-patients with impaired lung function and increased liver stiffness presented higher levels of CP than other clinical phenotypes. Therefore, CP may help to identify patients more at risk of developing lung and liver disease and may provide some insight into the mechanisms of disease.

RESUMO

Infection by HIV/AIDS or other STIs and unplanned pregnancies are sexual health problems of considerable impact around the world. Condoms are the only method that prevents all those risks, and attitudes toward the use of condoms are among the best predictors of their consistent use. The purpose of the present study was to translate, adapt, and validate a Spanish-language version of the Multidimensional Condom Attitudes Scale (MCAS) using a sample of young people from Colombia. A total of 1441 young people between the ages of 18 and 26 years responded to a web-based survey conducted between January 2018 and February 2018. The dimensionality of the scale was explored and confirmed to replicate the original five-factor structure (alphas ranged from .65 to .86). Criterion validity was adequate. Women had more positive attitudes toward identity stigma associated with condom use, while men had more positive attitudes toward reliability and effectiveness of condoms and were less embarrassed with condom negotiation and use. The Spanish-language MCAS is suitable for measuring condom-related attitudes among Colombian youth. Future research is needed to validate the Spanish version of the MCAS with other Spanish-speaking populations.

RESUMO

Understanding the properties of water under either soft or hard confinement has been an area of great interest, but nanostructured amphiphilic polymers that provide a secondary confinement have garnered significantly less attention. Here, a series of statistical copolymers of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and 2-(N-ethylperfluorooctane sulfonamido)ethyl methacrylate (FOSM) are swollen to equilibrium in water to form nanostructured physically cross-linked hydrogels to probe the effect of soft confinement on the dynamics of water. Changing the composition of the copolymer from 10 to 21 mol. % FOSM decreases the average size of the assembled FOSM cross-link, but also the spacing between the cross-links in the hydrogels with the mean distance between the FOSM aggregates decreasing from 3.9 to 2.7 nm. The dynamics of water within the hydrogels were assessed with quasielastic neutron scattering. These hydrogels exhibit superior performance for inhibition of water crystallization on supercooling in comparison to analogous hydrogels with different hydrophilic copolymer chemistries. Despite the lower water crystallinity, the self-diffusion coefficient for these hydrogels from the copolymers of HEA and FOSM decreases precipitously below 260 K, which is a counter to the nearly temperature invariant water dynamics reported previously with an analogous hydrogel [Wiener et al., J. Phys. Chem. B 120, 5543 (2016)] that exhibits nearly temperature invariant dynamics to 220 K. These results point to chemistry dependent dynamics of water that is confined within amphiphilic hydrogels, where the interactions of water with the hydrophilic segments can qualitatively alter the temperature dependent dynamics of water in the supercooled state.

RESUMO

We suggest a theoretical framework to study the dynamics of an open city, with cars entering at a certain rate and leaving as they reach their destinations. In particular, we assess through simulations some unexpected consequences of the massive use of GPS (global positioning system) navigation systems in the overall dynamics. One of our main interest is to identify what type of measurements would be the most relevant for an experimental study of this system, specifically, the ones useful for city traffic administrators. To do so, we solve the microdynamics using a cellular automaton model considering three different navigation strategies based on the minimization of the individual paths (unweighted strategy) or travel times (weighted strategies). Although the system is inherently stochastic, we found in our simulations an equivalent saddle-node bifurcation for all strategies where the input rate acts as a bifurcation parameter. There is also evidence of additional bifurcations for travel time minimization based strategies. Although we found that weighted strategies are more efficient in terms of car motion, there is a destabilization phenomenon that makes, in an unexpected way, a variation of the unweighted strategy more optimal at certain densities from the fuel efficiency of the overall city traffic point of view. These results bring new insight into the intrinsic dynamics of cities and the perturbations that individual traffic routing can produce on the city as a whole.

RESUMO

The Female Sexual Function Index is one of the most common instruments used to evaluate the female sexual function. The present study aimed to analyze the test-retest reliability, internal consistency, and discriminant validity of the index in clinical samples and to determine a specific and sensitive cutoff point for the Spanish version of the Female Sexual Function Index. For that purpose, a sample consisting of 117 Colombian women was recruited to evaluate test-retest reliability, and a second sample, consisting of 185 women, was divided into diagnosis and no-diagnosis groups based on DSM-5 criteria. Results showed adequate test-retest reliability after four weeks, and satisfactory evidence of internal consistency was obtained for subscale and overall scores. The inventory was found to have an adequate criterion validity, and it confirmed the differences between diagnosis and no-diagnosis groups. The instrument's cutoff point was determined to be 26 points, with a specificity of 73.9%, a sensitivity of 87.7%, and an area under the curve of 85.9 (CI = 80.0-91.7). These results confirm that the Spanish version of the FSFI is an adequate tool for evaluating female sexual dysfunction based on DSM-5 criteria.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: The most common complication in individuals with ostomies is irritant contact dermatitis from the acidic stoma effluent coming into contact with the peristomal skin. Although protective powders are widely used for the treatment of peristomal skin, there is little scientific evidence to justify their use. The combined use of sodium carboxymethylcellulose cellulose fibers (SCCFs) together with a hydrocolloid dressing for fixation is an effective alternative in the management of these wounds. Here, the authors report a case series of three patients presenting at a stoma therapy clinic with peristomal skin lesions because of severe irritant contact dermatitis. Patients were men aged between 70 and 81 years, had been diagnosed with colon cancer (n = 2) or bladder cancer (n = 1), and had undergone a colostomy (n = 1), ileostomy (n = 1), or Bricker-type ureteroileostomy (n = 1). A semiocclusive care protocol was applied in a moist environment using SCCF and an extrathin hydrocolloid adhesive dressing, and the collection device was secured using adhesive resin and an ostomy belt. The combined use of SCCF and hydrocolloid dressings provided beneficial results to treat the dermatitis, with reduced discomfort after 7 days and lesions healing within 4 weeks.

RESUMO

This paper explores the spatial variations of the statistical scaling features of low to high latitude geomagnetic field fluctuations at Swarm altitude. The data for this study comes from the vector field magnetometer onboard Swarm A satellite, measured at low resolution (1 Hz) for one year (from 9 March 2016, to 9 March 2017). We estimated the structure-function scaling exponents using the p-leaders discrete wavelet multifractal technique, from which we obtained the singularity spectrum related to the magnetic fluctuations in the North-East-Center (NEC) coordinate system. From this estimation, we retain just the maximal fractal subset, associated with the Hurst exponent H. Here we present thresholding for two levels of the Auroral Electrojet index and almost the whole northern and southern hemispheres, the Hurst exponent, the structure-function scaling exponent of order 2, and the multifractal p-exponent width for the geomagnetic fluctuations. The latter quantifies the relevance of the multifractal property. Sometimes, we found negative values of H, suggesting a behavior similar to wave breaking or shocklet-like propagating front. Furthermore, we found some asymmetries in the magnetic field turbulence between the northern and southern hemispheres. These estimations suggest that different turbulent regimes of the geomagnetic field fluctuations exist along the Swarm path.

RESUMO

Sexual desire is a cognitive and affective state that motivates an individual to engage in sexual activity. There are no validated measures to assess this construct in Colombia. The present study aimed to validate the Sexual Desire Inventory (SDI) and explore gender-and age-based differences in sexual desire in Colombian population. The sample was composed of 2,125 men and women who answered the Colombian version of the SDI. Results indicated strict invariance between genders, a three-dimension model, and acceptable validity and reliability indicators. Gender-based and age-based differences were observed in the three types of sexual desire. Implications and conclusions of these findings are presented.

RESUMO

Retrieving text embedded within images is a challenging task in real-world settings. Multiple problems such as low-resolution and the orientation of the text can hinder the extraction of information. These problems are common in environments such as Tor Darknet and Child Sexual Abuse images, where text extraction is crucial in the prevention of illegal activities. In this work, we evaluate eight text recognizers and, to increase the performance of text transcription, we combine these recognizers with rectification networks and super-resolution algorithms. We test our approach on four state-of-the-art and two custom datasets (TOICO-1K and Child Sexual Abuse (CSA)-text, based on text retrieved from Tor Darknet and Child Sexual Exploitation Material, respectively). We obtained a 0.3170 score of correctly recognized words in the TOICO-1K dataset when we combined Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and rectification-based recognizers. For the CSA-text dataset, applying resolution enhancements achieved a final score of 0.6960. The highest performance increase was achieved on the ICDAR 2015 dataset, with an improvement of 4.83% when combining the MORAN recognizer and the Residual Dense resolution approach. We conclude that rectification outperforms super-resolution when applied separately, while their combination achieves the best average improvements in the chosen datasets.

RESUMO

Hydrophobically modified copolymers provide a versatile platform of hydrogel materials for diverse applications, but the influence of salts on the swelling and material properties of this class of hydrogels has not been extensively studied. Here, we investigate model hydrogels with three different sodium salts with anions chosen from the classic Hofmeister series to determine how these counterions influence the swelling and mechanical properties of neutral hydrogels. The gel chosen was based on a statistical copolymer of dimethylacrylamide and 2-(N-ethylperfluorooctane sulfonamido) ethyl acrylate (FOSA). Our measurements utilize a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) to quantify both swelling and rheological properties of these gels. We find that a 1 mol/L solution of Na2SO4, corresponding to a kosmotropic anion, leads to nearly a 2.6-fold gel deswelling and correspondingly, the complex modulus increases by an order of magnitude under these solution conditions. In contrast, an initial increase in swelling and then a swelling maximum is observed for a 0.02 mol/L concentration in the case of a chaotropic anion, NaClO4, but the changes in the degree of gel swelling in this system are not directly correlated with changes in the gel shear modulus. The addition of NaBr, an anion salt closer to the middle of the chaotropic to kosmotropic range, leads to hydrogel deswelling where the degree of deswelling and the shear modulus are both nearly independent of salt concentration. Overall, the observed trends are broadly consistent with more kosmotropic ions causing diminished solubility ("salting out") and strongly chaotropic ions causing improved solubility ("salting in"), a trend characteristic of the Hoffmeister series governing the solubility of many proteins and synthetic water-soluble polymers, but trends in the shear stiffness with gel swelling are clearly different from those normally observed in chemically cross-linked gels and are correspondingly difficult to interpret. The salt specificity of swelling and mechanical properties of nonionic hydrogels is important for any potential application in which a wide range of salt concentrations and types are encountered.

RESUMO

The cooperative assembly of functional precursors with block copolymers (BCPs) is a powerful, general route to fabricate ordered mesoporous materials, but the precise tuning of the mesopore size generally requires trial and error to obtain the correct BCP template or appropriate swelling agent. Here, we demonstrate the ability to effectively modulate both expansion and contraction of the ordered cylindrical mesopores relative to those obtained from cooperatively assembled Pluronic F127, resol, and tetraethylorthosilicate. The two key physical parameters for the swelling agents are their hydrophobicity, as quantified by the octanol-water partition coefficient (Kow), and Hansen solubility parameters that describe the interactions of the solvent with the different components of the BCP template. Four low volatility solvents are examined that span a wide Kow with up to 90 wt % solvent relative to the Pluronic F127. Glycerol triacetate (Kow < 1) can decrease the average mesopore size from 5.9 to 4.8 nm due to segmental screening of the interactions in the Pluronic F127 to decrease chain stretching at intermediate loadings. A modest increase in mesopore size to 8.1 nm can be achieved with trimethylbenzene (TMB, Kow = 3.42). Dioctyl phthalate (DOP), which is slightly more hydrophobic (Kow = 8.1), is more effective than TMB at expanding the pore size (maximum: 13.5 nm) without loss of ordered structure. A more hydrophobic solvent, tris (2-ethylhexyl) trimellitate (Kow = 12.5), is less effective at increasing the pore size (maximum: 8.2 nm). The Hansen solubility parameters for DOP most closely match those of the hydrophobic segment in the Pluronic F217 template. We attribute this similarity, which is related to the solvent quality, to the improved efficacy of DOP in increasing the pore size. These results illustrate that both the Hansen solubility parameters (relative to the hydrophobic segment of the template) and relative hydrophobicity of the swelling agent determine the obtainable pore sizes in cooperatively assembled ordered mesoporous materials.

RESUMO

The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) subjectively explores the dimensions of female sexual functioning. This research undertook to adapt and validate the FSFI to Spanish language in a Colombian sample. To this effect, this study was conducted in two steps, namely: (1) cultural adaptation of the scale with the collaboration of seven experts; and (2) preliminary validation of the scale in a sample of 925 participants. Reliability indices were appropriate in this sample, and external validity in relation to other measures showed significant relationships. Findings suggest that the FSFI is reliable and valid in Spanish for a Colombian population. Further research is needed to establish the test-retest reliability and discriminant validity of this Spanish version.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Colombia has one of the highest rates of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and pregnancies - both of which are influenced by lack of condom use -, among adolescent population in Latin America; however, the mechanisms underlying the inconsistent use of condoms in this population are poorly understood. This descriptive and cross-sectional study's purpose was to examine sexual behavior and its precursors using the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and considering gender-based differences. Another objective was to study the mediating effect of intention in the relationship between behavior precursors and condom use based on the TPB. METHODS: We recruited 1100 adolescents aged between 14 and 19 years old (M = 15.94, SD = 1.30, 54.4% female) from Bogotá and Barranquilla, two of the cities with highest adolescent birth rates among adolescents in Colombia. Sociodemographic variables, knowledge on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS-related attitudes, including attitudes toward the use of condoms, normative beliefs, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention, and sexual behavior were assessed using self-reports. All analyses were run using SPSS v25. The indirect effect of intention to explain the relationship between precursors and the use of condoms during sexual intercourse was estimated using the PROCESS v3 macro. RESULTS: Descriptive analyses suggest a high risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies associated to inconsistent condom use, medium-low level of knowledge about sexual health, low normative beliefs regarding peers' condom use, and a certain perceived difficulty for using condoms. Condoms are used 71% of the times they have sex, but only 22% of the participants use them consistently; girls use condoms more consistently than boys. Sexual risk characteristics differed significantly by gender. Mediation analyses indicated that condom use intention mediates the relationship between behavioral precursors and frequency of condom use, according to the TPB. CONCLUSIONS: Findings provide a better understanding of sexual risk and highlight important implications for the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents. There is a need of designing and implementing protocolized sexual health promotion programs in schools with the aim of reducing sexual risk behaviors in Colombian adolescents.

RESUMO

A 63-year-old man with a history of a conventional cholecystectomy was referred to our department for an incisional subcostal hernia and chronic back pain. Physical examination also showed an umbilical hernia and diastasis recti measuring 6 cm that was confirmed with a computed tomography scan. Subcutaneous video-endoscopic repair was done repairing all defects simultaneously.
