[A case of seronegative systemic lupus erythematosus (an immunopathological study)]. / Sluchai seronegativnoi sistemnoi krasnoi volchanki (immunopatologicheskoe issledovanie).

A case of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in a 37-year-old female is described which was primarily diagnosed as epilepsy. Immunopathologically, an immunoglobulin in the nuclei of the majority of cells in the skin biopsy and blood cells was found against the background of the lack of SLE manifestations (antinuclear factor in the circulating blood, skin lesions, etc.). Antibodies against the antigen of vascular intima are revealed in the blood by means of the indirect immunofluorescence. The epilepsy diagnosis was established due to the prevalence of the brain vessels affection (frequent loss of consciousness). The progression of the disease with the involvement of joints, heart, lungs and other organs, high indexes of the rheumatoid factor made it necessary to differentiate between rheumatoid arthritis and SLE. The immunopathological examination confirmed the SLE diagnosis. Hemosorption combined with a standard therapy was followed by the decrease of the immunopathological manifestations.

[Study of the toxic factor in liver extracts]. / Izuchenie toksicheskogo faktora pechenochnykh ékstraktov.

Dissolution of mitochondrial fraction of ischemic liver was carried out using various detergents, the most effective of which was sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS). Excess of SDS was removed by dialysis or by sorption on anion exchange resin. The optically homogenous solution obtained was subsequently purified by gel filtration on Sephadex G-75. The preparation contained two fractions: the molecular weight of the major fraction corresponded to that of gamma-globulin and the molecular weight of the minor fraction--to that of cytochrome C. Interrelation was observed between the toxic activity and hydrophobic components of the fraction isolated.

[Changes in the functional activity of neutrophils during hemosorption therapy of patients with systemic rheumatic and other diseases with immunologic disorders]. / Izmenenie funktsional'noi aktivnosti neitrofilov v protsesse gemosorbtsionnoi terapii u bol'nykh sistemnymi revmaticheskimi i drugimi zabolevaniiami s immunnymi narusheniiami.

Fourteen patients on hemosorption therapy were studied for variations in functional activity of neutrophils isolated from peripheral blood. These variations were evaluated from neutrophil chemiluminescence during adhesion reflecting the generation of active forms of oxygen. A correlation was established between the positive effect of therapy and neutrophil activation which was most demonstrable by day 7 after the treatment.
