RESUMO

The value of the pursuit motor electro-oculogram (pendular or linear) in the diagnosis and subsequent therapy of non-accomodative esotropia (not eliminated by optical correction), and presenting a spasmodic element, was studied in 164 cases of unoperated esotropia and 47 cases operated upon using a conventional technique and "Cuppers'thread". The contribution and limitations of this electrophysiological method for exploration of ocular motility in esotropia are discussed.

RESUMO

One case of herpes zoster keratitis studied after corneal graft is described. Light and electron microscopy investigations show severe pathological changes under the coneal epithelium: Bowman's layer disruption, superficial stromal alterations, sub-epithelial phagocyte proliferation with lipid and mucopolysaccharid vacuolar deposits, abnormal vascularization of the posterior stroma. The authors stress on this interesting ultrastructural study because of very rare cases of the same disease reported in the literature.

RESUMO

A randomized double-blind trial was conducted in 143 out-patients with allergic conjunctivitis (281 eyes). Active sodium cromoglycate collyre was compared with placebo in parallel groups over a four-week period. Highly significant advantage for active drug was demonstrated for subjective and objective symptoms as well as for overall assessment by patients and physicians. Results were compared with international data concerning this well-known anti-allergic compound.

RESUMO

The authors describe 89 cases of esotropia which have been reoperated upon because of failure of the first operation; 57 cases consist in residual esotropia, 32 cases in secondary exotropia. Rules for reoperation are proposed, the general and particular rules according to the type of the first surgery.

RESUMO

Cüppers' thread operation opens a new chapter in Oculo-motor surgery. This operation aims at reducing the rotational force of the recti muscles innervational impulsion without changing the balance in primary position. This result is obtained by suturing the muscle belly and sclera at least 13 mm behind the original scleral insertion. The indications for this operation are the following: 1. Oculo-motors Paralysis, in acoordance to the Cüpper's principle: "paresis versus paresis" reducing the rotational force of the innervational impulsion of a muscle induces an increasing of innervational impulsion in the yoke muscle. 2. Surgery in excentric fixation: creating a pseudo-paralysis induces a change of fixation in the opposite direction. 3. Nystagmus surgery: the thread allows a reduction of the innervational impulsion in the muscles which create the blockage; the abnormal head posture is thus reduced. 4. Surgery in variable non accommodative squint: the static component of the deviation is treated by classical surgery, the dynamic component by thread operation.
