RESUMO

A complex interplay of different energy scales involving Coulomb repulsion, spin-orbit coupling, and Hund's coupling energy in 2D van der Waals (vdW) material produces a novel emerging physical state. For instance, ferromagnetism in vdW charge transfer insulator CrGeTe_{3} provides a promising platform to simultaneously manipulate the magnetic and electrical properties for potential device implementation using few nanometers thick materials. Here, we show a continuous tuning of magnetic and electrical properties of a CrGeTe_{3} single crystal using pressure. With application of pressure, CrGeTe_{3} transforms from a ferromagnetic insulator with Curie temperature T_{C}∼66 K at ambient condition to a correlated 2D Fermi metal with T_{C} exceeding ∼250 K. Notably, absence of an accompanying structural distortion across the insulator-metal transition (IMT) suggests that the pressure induced modification of electronic ground states is driven by electronic correlation furnishing a rare example of bandwidth-controlled IMT in a vdW material.

RESUMO

Surface modification effects of graphite and organic solvents on Ti were investigated by thermogravimetry (TG), Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations to improve its hydrogen absorption properties. As a result, Ti ball-milled with graphite showed high reactivity and selectivity for hydrogen with high durability.

RESUMO

Since the discovery of the Verwey transition in magnetite, transition metal compounds with pyrochlore structures have been intensively studied as a platform for realizing remarkable electronic phase transitions. We report on a phase transition that preserves the cubic symmetry of the ß-pyrochlore oxide CsW2O6, where each of W 5d electrons are confined in regular-triangle W3 trimers. This trimer formation represents the self-organization of 5d electrons, which can be resolved into a charge order satisfying the Anderson condition in a nontrivial way, orbital order caused by the distortion of WO6 octahedra, and the formation of a spin-singlet pair in a regular-triangle trimer. An electronic instability due to the unusual three-dimensional nesting of Fermi surfaces and the strong correlations of the 5d electrons characteristic of the pyrochlore oxides are both likely to play important roles in this charge-orbital-spin coupled phenomenon.

RESUMO

The partial pressure of NH3 gas estimated by Raman spectroscopy indicates that approximately 0.1% NH3 inevitably contaminates the H2 desorbed from a hydrogen storage material composed of LiH and LiNH2 at any temperature up to 400 degrees C in a closed system.
