RESUMO

Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) encounters significant obstacles, including limited intrinsic electronic and ionic conductivities, which hinder its potential for commercial feasibility. Currently, the substitution of V3+ with Mn2+ is proposed to introduce favorable carriers, enhancing the electronic conductivity of the NVP system while providing structural support and stabilizing the NASICON framework. This substitution also widens the Na+ migration pathways, accelerating ion transport. Furthermore, to bolster stability, Al2O3 coating is applied to suppress the dissolution of transition metal Mn in the electrolyte. Notably, the Al2O3 coating serves a triple role in reducing HClO4 concentration in the electrolyte, inhibiting Mn dissolution, and functioning as the ion-conducting phase. Likewise, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) effectively hinder the agglomeration of active particles during high-temperature sintering, thereby optimizing the conductivity of NVP system. In addition, the excellent structural stability is investigated by in situ XRD measurement, effectively improving the volume collapse during Na+ de-embedding. Moreover, the Na3V5.92/3Mn0.04(PO4)3/C@CNTs@1wt.%Al2O3 (NVMP@CNTs@1wt.%Al2O3) possesses unique porous structure, promoting rapid Na+ transport and increasing the interface area between the electrolyte and the cathode material. Comprehensively, the NVMP@CNTs@1wt.%Al2O3 sample demonstrates a remarkable reversible specific capacity of 122.6 mAh/g at 0.1 C. Moreover, it maintains a capacity of 115.9 mAh/g at 1 C with a capacity retention of 90.2 mAh/g after 1000 cycles. Even at 30 C, it achieves a capacity of 87.9 mAh/g, with a capacity retention rate of 84.87 % after 6000 cycles. Moreover, the NVMP@CNTs@1wt.%Al2O3//CHC full cell can deliver a high reversible capacity of 205.5 mAh/g at 0.1 C, further indicating the superior application potential in commercial utilization.

The most clinically significant complication associated with stereotactic core needle biopsy of the breast is hematoma formation, which only occurs in less than 1% of biopsies and may require treatment. Cases of uncontrollable bleeding, refractory to repeated compression, resulting from biopsy are exceedingly rare. We present a case of catastrophic, uncontrollable bleeding and large hematoma formation resulting from stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy of a breast mass identified in screening mammography. Percutaneous embolization was planned and guided using 3D reconstructions from computed tomographic angiography, and bleeding was successfully controlled with micro-coil embolization.

Exiting strategies for 3D shape-changing structures are constrained by either the complicated fabrication process or the harsh demands of active materials. Facile preparation of 3D shape-changing structures with an extremely simple approach based on the elastomeric polymer still remains a challenging topic. Here, we report a fast digital patterning of surface topography of a single-layer elastomeric polymer toward 3D shape-changing structures. The surface topography features digitally engraved grooves by a laser engraver on a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) sheet, which is surface oxidized by the UV-ozone treatment. The resulting engraved PDMS sheets exhibit programmable shape-changing behaviors to form various 3D structures under the action of organic solvent. Experimental and numerical studies reveal the fundamental aspects of surface topography-guided 3D shape-changing structures. Demonstrations of this concept in developing various complex 3D shape-changing structures illustrate the simplicity and effectiveness of our approach, thereby creating engineering opportunities in a wide range of applications such as actuators and soft robots.

Research into gene therapy for heart failure has gained renewed interest as a result of improved safety and availability of adeno-associated viral vectors (AAV). While magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is standard for functional assessment of gene therapy outcomes, quantitation of gene transfer/expression relies upon tissue biopsy, fluorescence or nuclear imaging. Imaging of gene expression through the use of genetically encoded chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST)-MRI reporter genes could be combined with clinical cardiac MRI methods to comprehensively probe therapeutic gene expression and subsequent outcomes. The CEST-MRI reporter gene Lysine Rich Protein (LRP) was cloned into an AAV9 vector and either administered systemically via tail vein injection or directly injected into the left ventricular free wall of mice. Longitudinal in vivo CEST-MRI performed at days 15 and 45 after direct injection or at 1, 60 and 90 days after systemic injection revealed robust CEST contrast in myocardium that was later confirmed to express LRP by immunostaining. Ventricular structure and function were not impacted by expression of LRP in either study arm. The ability to quantify and link therapeutic gene expression to functional outcomes can provide rich data for further development of gene therapy for heart failure.

RESUMO

Angiography and endovascular embolization play an important role in controlling acute arterial upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, particularly when endoscopic intervention fails to do so. In our case, the patient presented with recurrent life-threatening bleed in spite of multiple prior endoscopic interventions and gastroduodenal artery embolization. Our teaching points focus on the role of angiography in acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and when to conduct empiric embolization, while reviewing the supraduodenal artery as an atypical but important potential culprit for refractory upper gastrointestinal bleed.

Integrins are extracellular matrix receptors composed of α and ß subunits. Here we describe two α subunits and four ß subunits from the starlet sea anemone Nematostella vectensis. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the α subunits are most closely related to RGD- and LDV-dependent α subunits of chordates. The ß subunits cluster with the previously described ß integrins of the hard coral Acropora millepora. The expression of one of the α subunits and three of the ß subunits was confirmed by reverse transcription PCR and in situ hybridization. The α subunit is primarily expressed in cells near muscles, by a subset of gastrodermal cells, and in the gonad. The three ß subunits each have distinctive patterns of expression: one is concentrated in the gonad and mesenteric filament, another is found in a subset of cells in the epidermis of the oral region and in a subset of gastrodermal cells in the mesenteries, and a third is expressed widely. Changes in expression were also studied 48 h after horizontal transection by quantitative reverse transcription PCR and in situ hybridization. One of the ß subunits is expressed 8-fold higher during regeneration, and its expression is observed in cells within both the epidermis and the gastrodermis at the site of regeneration. Our observations confirm that complex patterns of integrin expression were already present in basal metazoans. The integrins expressed in the gonads may play roles in mediating sperm-egg interactions in N. vectensis, while others may play a role in regulating proliferation during regeneration.
