RESUMO

Low-threshold, efficient optical parametric generation at ~4.64 µm is demonstrated using CdSiP2 nonlinear crystal pumped by 150 ps Raman shifted pump pulses at 1198 nm in noncritical configuration at 1 kHz repetition rate. Maximum single pulse idler energy of 6 µJ and total conversion efficiency of 30% are achieved. Seeding at the signal wavelength with a distributed feedback laser diode enables ~25 fold narrowing of the bandwidths down to ~10 GHz, resulting in a Fourier product of ~1 for the ~100 ps long signal (1615 nm) and idler (4.64 µm) pulses.

RESUMO

We report on mode-locking of a Cr:YAG laser at 1516 nm using a monolayer graphene-based saturable absorber of transmission type generating 91 fs pulses with a Fourier product of 0.38 at an average output power exceeding 100 mW. Stable single-pulse mode-locked operation without any sign of Q-switching instabilities or multiple pulses is achieved.

RESUMO

We report the results of the investigation on a passively mode-locked Yb(3+):CaGdAlO(4) laser, pumped by a single transverse mode laser diode emitting 350 mW at 980 nm. This particular pump source allows efficient pumping with a nearly TEM(00) beam and minimal thermal load, making the optimization of the mode-locking performance more straightforward than with higher-power multimode beams. Indeed, using a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror and extra-cavity dispersion compensation, pulses as short as 40 fs (31-nm spectrum) have been measured, tunable across 20 nm with 15-mW output power. Slightly longer Fourier-limited 46-fs pulses with 33 mW output power directly from the oscillator have been achieved, using a different saturable absorber mirror. Such overall performance, especially considering these are among the shortest pulses generated in diode-pumped ytterbium lasers, confirms the excellent qualities of Yb(3+):CaGdAlO(4).

RESUMO

An Nd:YVO4 amplifier consisting of two modules end pumped at 808 nm at 30 W total absorbed power has been designed for efficient, diffraction-limited amplification of ultrafast pulses from low-power seeders. We investigated amplification with a 50 mW, 7 ps Nd:YVO4 oscillator, a 2 mW, 15 ps Yb fiber laser, and a 30 mW, 300 fs Nd:glass laser. Output power as high as 9.5 W with 8 ps pulses was achieved with the 250 MHz vanadate seeder, whereas the 20 MHz fiber laser was amplified to 6 W. The femtosecond seeder allowed extracting Fourier-limited 4 ps pulses at 7 W output power. To our knowledge, these are the shortest pulses from any Nd:YVO4 laser device with at least 7 W output power. This suggests a novel approach to exploit the gain bandwidth of vanadate amplifiers with high output power levels. Such amplifier technology promises to offer an interesting alternative to high-power thin disk oscillators at few picoseconds duration, as well as to regenerative amplifiers with low-repetition-rate fiber seeders.

RESUMO

Low-threshold, efficient optical parametric generation at ~6100 nm is demonstrated using CdSiP2 nonlinear crystal at 1 to 10 kHz repetition rates with relatively long 500 ps pump pulses at 1064 nm. Maximum single pulse energy of 8.7 µJ and average power of 79 mW are achieved for the idler. Seeding at the signal wavelength is employed using a distributed feedback laser diode, which enables approximately tenfold narrowing of the idler bandwidth down to less than 1 nm.

RESUMO

A Nd(3+)-doped Schott LG680 silicate glass laser was pumped with a single-mode 200-mW diode. Efficient cw operation was demonstrated with 37.5 mW output power and 36% slope efficiency. Passive mode-locking with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror yielded 80-fs pulses with a two-prism setup. Alternatively, pulses of approximately 200-fs, tunable over the range 1058-1076 nm, were obtained with either slit-tuning or a single-prism dispersive resonator. Output powers from 6 to 14 mW have been measured.

RESUMO

Using a 150-mW single-transverse-mode laser diode at 802 nm for pumping an Nd:phosphate laser, we achieved efficient cw operation (40% slope efficiency) with pump threshold as low as 12 mW at optimum coupling, and a maximum output power of 53 mW. Under passive mode-locking operation, we obtained nearly Fourier-limited 270-fs pulses in a prismless dispersion-compensated cavity and 173-fs pulses with a single-prism setup. This compact laser is especially interesting for applications requiring low power levels, such as seeding amplifiers and for biodiagnostics.

RESUMO

A diode-pumped, prismless Nd:glass laser oscillator, mode-locked by a semiconductor saturable absorber, was stabilized against self-Q-switching by using a phase-mismatched second harmonic crystal. Furthermore, negative-index cascaded second-order nonlinearity provided the soliton shaping mechanism with normal intracavity dispersion. Nearly Fourier-limited pulses as short as 520 fs were obtained.

RESUMO

We report on a high-energy solid-state laser based on a master-oscillator power-amplifier system seeded by a 5-GHz repetition-rate mode-locked oscillator, aimed at the excitation of the dynamic Casimir effect by optically modulating a microwave resonator. Solid-state amplifiers provide up to 250 mJ at 1064 nm in a 500-ns (macro-)pulse envelope containing 12-ps (micro-)pulses, with a macro/micropulse format and energy resembling that of near-infrared free-electron lasers. Efficient second-harmonic conversion allowed synchronous pumping of an optical parametric oscillator, obtaining up to 40 mJ in the range 750-850 nm.

RESUMO

A diode-pumped single-pass amplifier system relying on two grazing-incidence Nd:YVO(4) slabs was developed to increase the energy of low-repetition-rate pulses from a decimated low-power cw mode-locked oscillator. Single-pass unsaturated gain up to 1.3x10(5) was achieved, and amplified pulses of 10-muJ energy and 8.0-ps duration were obtained. Efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) at 532 nm was achieved, as well as traveling-wave parametric conversion in the range 770-1020 nm (signal) and 1110-1720 nm (idler).

RESUMO

We report on a simple design for a multi-GHz tunable-repetition-rate diode-pumped picosecond laser. Using a plano-Brewster Nd:GdVO4 crystal in a V-folded cavity employing only readily available commercial components, we achieved passive mode-locking with 4.4-ps pulses tunable in the range 2.5-2.7 GHz. This laser is meant to be employed in the MIR experiment that aims at the detection of the Schwinger radiation (dynamical Casimir effect).

RESUMO

We report what is to our knowledge the first high repetition rate Q-switched Nd:BaY(2)F(8) (Nd:BaYF) laser pumped with a multiwatt fiber-coupled diode array tuned at 806 nm. As much as 2.42 W of average power and up to 1.05 mJ of pulse energy were obtained with 6.1 W of absorbed pump power, with excellent beam quality (M(2)<1.2) and linear polarization.

RESUMO

We report on a diode-pumped 1.3-microm Nd:GdVO4 cw laser, intracavity doubled for highly efficient generation of red light. We obtained as much as 2.4 W of power at 670 nm (corresponding to 26% optical-to-optical efficiency) in a nearly TEM00 mode and with small amplitude noise. To the best of our knowledge, these results represent the highest performance at this wavelength for cw solid-state lasers.
