RESUMO

Ultra-scaled transistors are of interest in the development of next-generation electronic devices1-3. Although atomically thin molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) transistors have been reported4, the fabrication of devices with gate lengths below 1 nm has been challenging5. Here we demonstrate side-wall MoS2 transistors with an atomically thin channel and a physical gate length of sub-1 nm using the edge of a graphene layer as the gate electrode. The approach uses large-area graphene and MoS2 films grown by chemical vapour deposition for the fabrication of side-wall transistors on a 2-inch wafer. These devices have On/Off ratios up to 1.02 × 105 and subthreshold swing values down to 117 mV dec-1. Simulation results indicate that the MoS2 side-wall effective channel length approaches 0.34 nm in the On state and 4.54 nm in the Off state. This work can promote Moore's law of the scaling down of transistors for next-generation electronics.

RESUMO

Ferroelectricity, especially the Si-compatible type recently observed in hafnia-based materials, is technologically useful for modern memory and logic applications, but it is challenging to differentiate intrinsic ferroelectric polarization from the polar phase and oxygen vacancy. Here, we report electrically controllable ferroelectricity in a Hf0.5Zr0.5O2-based heterostructure with Sr-doped LaMnO3, a mixed ionic-electronic conductor, as an electrode. Electrically reversible extraction and insertion of an oxygen vacancy into Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 are macroscopically characterized and atomically imaged in situ. Utilizing this reversible process, we achieved multilevel polarization states modulated by the electric field. Our study demonstrates the usefulness of the mixed conductor to repair, create, manipulate, and utilize advanced ferroelectric functionality. Furthermore, the programmed ferroelectric heterostructures with Si-compatible doped hafnia are desirable for the development of future ferroelectric electronics.

RESUMO

Accurate in vivo imaging of G-quadruplexes (G4) is critical for understanding the emergence and progression of G4-associated diseases like cancer. However, existing in vivo G4 fluorescent probes primarily operate within the near-infrared region (NIR-I), which limits their application accuracy due to the short emission wavelength. The transition to second near-infrared (NIR-II) fluorescent imaging has been of significant interest, as it offers reduced autofluorescence and deeper tissue penetration, thereby facilitating more accurate in vivo imaging. Nonetheless, the advancement of NIR-II G4 probes has been impeded by the absence of effective probe design strategies. Herein, through a "step-by-step" rational design approach, we have successfully developed NIRG-2, the first small-molecule fluorescent probe with NIR-II emission tailored for in vivo G4 detection. Molecular docking calculations reveal that NIRG-2 forms stable hydrogen bonds and strong π-π interactions with G4 structures, which effectively inhibit twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) and, thereby, selectively illuminate G4 structures. Due to its NIR-II emission (940 nm), large Stokes shift (90 nm), and high selectivity, NIRG-2 offers up to 47-fold fluorescence enhancement and a tissue imaging depth of 5 mm for in vivo G4 detection, significantly outperforming existing G4 probes. Utilizing NIRG-2, we have, for the first time, achieved high-contrast visualization of tumor metastasis through lymph nodes and precise tumor resection. Furthermore, NIRG-2 proves to be highly effective and reliable in evaluating surgical and drug treatment efficacy in cancer lymphatic metastasis models. We are optimistic that this study not only provides a crucial molecular tool for an in-depth understanding of G4-related diseases in vivo but also marks a promising strategy for the development of clinical NIR-II G4-activated probes.

RESUMO

Despite the significant importance of blood lithium (Li) detection in the treatment of bipolar disorder (BD), its point-of-care testing (POCT) remains a great challenge due to tedious sample preparation and the use of large-footprint atomic spectrometers. Herein, a system coupling dried blood spots (DBS) with a point discharge optical emission spectrometer equipped with a miniaturized ultrasonic nebulizer (MUN-µPD-OES) was developed for POCT of blood Li. Three microliters of whole blood were used to prepare a dried blood spot on a piece of filter paper to which 10 µL of eluent (1% (v/v) formic acid and 0.05% (v/v) Triton-X) was added. Subsequently, the paper was placed onto the vibrating steel membrane of the ultrasonic nebulizer and powered on to generate aerosol. The aerosol was directly introduced to the µPD-OES for quantification of Li by monitoring its atomic emission line at 670.8 nm. The proposed method minimized matrix interference caused by high levels of salts and protein. It is worth noting that the MUN suitably matches the needs of DBS sampling and can provide aerosolized introduction of Li into the assembled µPD-OES, thus eliminating all tedious sample preparation and the need for a commercial atomic spectrometer. Calibration response is linear in the therapeutic range and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.3 µg L-1 is well below the Li minimum therapeutic concentration (2800 µg L-1). Li in mouse blood was successfully detected in real-time using MUN-µPD-OES after intraperitoneal injection of lithium carbonate, confirming that the system holds great potential for POCT of blood Li for patients with BD.

RESUMO

To meet the needs of food safety for simple, rapid, and low-cost analytical methods, a portable device based on a point discharge microplasma optical emission spectrometer (µPD-OES) was combined with machine learning to enable on-site food freshness evaluation and detection of adulteration. The device was integrated with two modular injection units (i.e., headspace solid-phase microextraction and headspace purge) for the examination of various samples. Aromas from meat and coffee were first introduced to the portable device. The aroma molecules were excited to specific atomic and molecular fragments at excited states by room temperature and atmospheric pressure microplasma due to their different atoms and molecular structures. Subsequently, different aromatic molecules obtained their own specific molecular and atomic emission spectra. With the help of machine learning, the portable device was successfully applied to the assessment of meat freshness with accuracies of 96.0, 98.7, and 94.7% for beef, pork, and chicken meat, respectively, through optical emission patterns of the aroma at different storage times. Furthermore, the developed procedures can identify beef samples containing different amounts of duck meat with an accuracy of 99.5% and classify two coffee species without errors, demonstrating the great potential of their application in the discrimination of food adulteration. The combination of machine learning and µPD-OES provides a simple, portable, and cost-effective strategy for food aroma analysis, potentially addressing field monitoring of food safety.

RESUMO

Previous neuroimaging studies on arithmetic development have mainly focused on functional activation or functional connectivity between brain regions. It remains largely unknown how brain structures support arithmetic development. The present study investigated whether early gray matter structural covariance contributes to later gain in arithmetic ability in children. We used a public longitudinal sample comprising 63 typically developing children. The participants received structural magnetic resonance imaging scanning when they were 11 years old and were tested with a multiplication task at 11 years old (time 1) and 13 years old (time 2), respectively. Mean gray matter volumes were extracted from eight brain regions of interest to anchor salience network (SN), frontal-parietal network (FPN), motor network (MN), and default mode network (DMN) at time 1. We found that longitudinal gain in arithmetic ability was associated with stronger structural covariance of the SN seed with frontal and parietal regions and stronger structural covariance of the FPN seed with insula, but weaker structural covariance of the FPN seed with motor and temporal regions, weaker structural covariance of the MN seed with frontal and motor regions, and weaker structural covariance of the DMN seed with temporal region. However, we did not detect correlation between longitudinal gain in arithmetic ability and behavioral measure or regional gray matter volume at time 1. Our study provides novel evidence for a specific contribution of gray matter structural covariance to longitudinal gain in arithmetic ability in childhood.

RESUMO

A symbiotic microalgal-bacterial biofilm can enable efficient carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) removal during aeration-free wastewater treatment. However, the contributions of microalgae and bacteria to C and N removal remain unexplored. Here, we developed a baffled oxygenic microalgal-bacterial biofilm reactor (MBBfR) for the nonaerated treatment of greywater. A hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 6 h gave the highest biomass concentration and biofilm thickness as well as the maximum removal of chemical oxygen demand (94.8%), linear alkylbenzenesulfonates (LAS, 99.7%), and total nitrogen (97.4%). An HRT of 4 h caused a decline in all of the performance metrics due to LAS biotoxicity. Most of C (92.6%) and N (95.7%) removals were ultimately associated with newly synthesized biomass, with only minor fractions transformed into CO2 (2.2%) and N2 (1.7%) on the function of multifarious-related enzymes in the symbiotic biofilm. Specifically, microalgae photosynthesis contributed to the removal of C and N at 75.3 and 79.0%, respectively, which accounted for 17.3% (C) and 16.7% (N) by bacteria assimilation. Oxygen produced by microalgae favored the efficient organics mineralization and CO2 supply by bacteria. The symbiotic biofilm system achieved stable and efficient removal of C and N during greywater treatment, thus providing a novel technology to achieve low-energy-input wastewater treatment, reuse, and resource recovery.

RESUMO

Rapid and in situ identification of specific polymers is a challenging and crucial step in plastic recycling. However, conventional techniques continue to exhibit significant limitations in the rapid and field classification of plastic products, especially with the wide range of commercially available color polymers because of their large size, high energy consumption, and slow and complicated analysis procedures. In this work, a simple analytical system integrating a miniature and low power consumption (22.3 W) pyrolyzer (Pyr) and a low temperature, atmospheric pressure point discharge optical emission spectrometer (µPD-OES) was fabricated for rapidly identifying polymer types. Plastic debris is decomposed in the portable pyrolyzer to yield volatile products, which are then swept into the µPD-OES instrument for monitoring the optical emission patterns of the thermal pyrolysis products. With machine learning, five extensively used raw polymers and their consumer plastics were classified with an accuracy of ≥97.8%. Furthermore, the proposed method was applied to the identification of the aged polymers and plastic samples collected from a garbage recycling station, indicating its great potential for identification of environmentally weathered plastics. This portable Pyr-µPD-OES system provides a cost-effective tool for rapid and field identification of polymer types of recycled plastic for proper management and resource recycling.

RESUMO

In the adolescent group, about half of adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD) have NSSI. Psychosocial factors are associated with the development of NSSI. Clarifying the relationship between psychosocial factors and NSSI in adolescents with MDD can help us achieve early prevent. Demographic data, Hamilton Depression Scale-24 (HAMA24), childhood trauma questionnaire, emotional intelligence scale and interpersonal reactivity index were collected from 187 adolescents with MDD. Use ANOVA, Chi-square test, Binary Logistic Regression, Pearson correlation analysis, Mediation effect analysis and the Structural Equation Model for data analysis. The results of ANOVA showed that there was significant difference between the two groups in HAMD24 total score, impulsiveness, emotional intelligence, and empathy (p < 0.05). In the regression analysis, women, depression degree, motor impulsiveness (MI), personal distress (PD) and appraisal of other's emotions empathy were the risk factors for MDD adolescents to produce NSSI behavior. Among the indicators that were significantly related to MDD and NSSI, MI and PD mediate the relationship between MDD and NSSI. The structural equation model showed that MDD, PD and MI had a direct impact on NSSI, but PD and MI had multiple intermediary effected in the relationship between MDD and NSSI. Emotional intelligence, emotional neglect and cognitive impulsiveness indirectly affected the occurrence of NSSI behavior. Impulsiveness, personal distress, emotional neglect, and emotional intelligence are important risk factors that affect NSSI behavior in adolescents with MDD, and they affect the occurrence of NSSI in adolescents with MDD through chain mediation.

RESUMO

Understanding polymer transport in nanopores is crucial for optimizing heterogeneously catalyzed processes in polymer upcycling and fabricating high-performance nanocomposite films and membranes. Although confined polymer dynamics have been extensively studied, the behavior of polyethylene (PE)-the most widely used commodity polymer-in pores smaller than 20 nm remains largely unexplored. We investigate the effects of extreme nanoconfinement on PE transport using capillary rise infiltration in silica nanoparticle packings with average pore radii ranging from ∼1 to ∼9 nm. Using in situ ellipsometry and the Lucas-Washburn model, we discover a previously unknown inverse relationship between effective viscosity (ηeff) and average pore radius (Rpore). Additonally, we determine that PE transport under these extreme conditions is primarily governed by physical confinement, rather than pore surface chemistry. We refine an existing theory to provide a generalized formalism to describe the polymer transport dynamics over a wide range of pore radii (from 1 nm and larger). Our results offer valuable insights for optimizing catalyst supports in polymer upcycling and improving infiltration processes for nanocomposite fabrication.

RESUMO

Cell membrane-targeted bioimaging is a prerequisite for studying the roles of membrane-associated biomolecules in various physiological and pathological processes. However, long-term in situ bioimaging on the cell membrane with conventional fluorescent probes leads to diffusion into cells from the membrane surface. Therefore, we herein proposed a de novo strategy to construct an antidiffusion probe by integrating a fluorochrome characterized by strong hydrophobicity and low lipophilicity, with an enzyme substrate to meet this challenge. This precipitating fluorochrome HYPQ was designed by conjugating the traditionally strong hydrophobic solid-state fluorochrome 6-chloro-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl) quinazolin-4(3H)-one (HPQ) with a 2-(2-methyl-4H-chromen-4-ylidene) malononitrile group to obtain closer stacking to lower lipophilicity and elongate emission to the far-red to near-infrared wavelength. As proof-of-concept, the membrane-associated enzyme γ-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) was selected as a model enzyme to design the antidiffusion probe HYPQG. Then, benefiting from the precipitating and stable signal properties of HYPQ, in situ imaging of GGT on the membrane was successfully realized. Moreover, after HYPQG was activated by GGT, the fluorescence signal on the cell membrane remained unchanged, with incubation time even extending to 6 h, which is significant for in situ monitoring of enzymatic activity. In vivo testing subsequently showed that the tumor region could be accurately defined by this probe after long-term in situ imaging of tumor-bearing mice. The excellent performance of HYPQ indicates that it may be an ideal alternative for constructing universal antidiffusion fluorescent probes, potentially providing an efficient tool for accurate imaging-guided surgery in the future.

RESUMO

Thyroid cancer (THCA) is one of the most common malignancies of the endocrine system. Exosomes have significant value in performing molecular treatments, evaluating the diagnosis and determining tumor prognosis. Thus, the identification of exosome-related genes could be valuable for the diagnosis and potential treatment of THCA. In this study, we examined a set of exosome-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (BIRC5, POSTN, TGFBR1, DUSP1, BID, and FGFR2) by taking the intersection between the DEGs of the TCGA-THCA and GeneCards datasets. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses of the exosome-related DEGs indicated that these genes were involved in certain biological functions and pathways. Protein‒protein interaction (PPI), mRNA‒miRNA, and mRNA-TF interaction networks were constructed using the 6 exosome-related DEGs as hub genes. Furthermore, we analyzed the correlation between the 6 exosome-related DEGs and immune infiltration. The Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC), the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia (CCLE), and the CellMiner database were used to elucidate the relationship between the exosome-related DEGs and drug sensitivity. In addition, we verified that both POSTN and BID were upregulated in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) patients and that their expression was correlated with cancer progression. The POSTN and BID protein expression levels were further examined in THCA cell lines. These findings provide insights into exosome-related clinical trials and drug development.

RESUMO

Low-power electronic devices play a pivotal role in the burgeoning artificial intelligence era. The study of such devices encompasses low-subthreshold swing (SS) transistors and neuromorphic devices. However, conventional field-effect transistors (FETs) face the inherent limitation of the "Boltzmann tyranny", which restricts SS to 60 mV decade-1 at room temperature. Additionally, FET-based neuromorphic devices lack sufficient conductance states for highly accurate neuromorphic computing due to a narrow memory window. In this study, we propose a pioneering PZT-enabled MoS2 floating gate transistor (PFGT) configuration, demonstrating a low SS of 46 mV decade-1 and a wide memory window of 7.2 V in the dual-sweeping gate voltage range from -7 to 7 V. The wide memory window provides 112 distinct conductance states for PFGT. Moreover, the PFGT-based artificial neural network achieves an outstanding facial-recognition accuracy of 97.3%. This study lays the groundwork for the development of low-SS transistors and highly energy efficient artificial synapses utilizing two-dimensional materials.

RESUMO

Organic fluorophores are indispensable tools in cells, tissue and in vivo imaging, and have enabled much progress in the wide range of biological and biomedical fields. However, many available dyes suffer from insufficient performances, such as short absorption and emission wavelength, low brightness, poor stability, small Stokes shift, and unsuitable permeability, restricting their application in advanced imaging technology and complex imaging. Over the past two decades, many efforts have been made to improve these performances of fluorophores. Starting with the luminescence principle of fluorophores, this review clarifies the mechanisms of the insufficient performance for traditional fluorophores to a certain extent, systematically summarizes the modified approaches of optimizing properties, highlights the typical applications of the improved fluorophores in imaging and sensing, and indicates existing problems and challenges in this area. This progress not only proves the significance of improving fluorophores properties, but also provide a theoretical guidance for the development of high-performance fluorophores.

RESUMO

Abnormal physiological processes and diseases can lead to content or activity fluctuations of biocomponents in organelles and whole blood. However, precise monitoring of these abnormalities remains extremely challenging due to the insufficient sensitivity and accuracy of available fluorescence probes, which can be attributed to the background fluorescence arising from two sources, 1) biocomponent autofluorescence (BCAF) and 2) probe intrinsic fluorescence (PIF). To overcome these obstacles, we have re-engineered far-red to NIR II rhodol derivatives that possess weak BCAF interference. And a series of "zero" PIF sensing-platforms were created by systematically regulating the open-loop/spirocyclic forms. Leveraging these advancements, we devised various ultra-sensitive NIR indicators, achieving substantial fluorescence boosts (190 to 1300-fold). Among these indicators, 8-LAP demonstrated accurate tracking and quantifying of leucine aminopeptidase (LAP) in whole blood at various stages of tumor metastasis. Furthermore, coupling 8-LAP with an endoplasmic reticulum-targeting element enabled the detection of ERAP1 activity in HCT116 cells with p53 abnormalities. This delicate design of eliminating PIF provides insights into enhancing the sensitivity and accuracy of existing fluorescence probes toward the detection and imaging of biocomponents in abnormal physiological processes and diseases.

RESUMO

Afterglow materials-based biological imaging has promising application prospects, due to negligible background. However, currently available afterglow materials mainly include inorganic materials as well as some organic nanoparticles, which are difficult to translate to the clinic, resulting from non-negligible metabolic toxicity and even leakage risk of inorganic heavy metals. Although building small organic molecules could solve such obstacles, organic small molecules with afterglow ability are extremely scarce, especially with a sufficient renal metabolic capacity. To address these issues, herein, we designed water-soluble zwitterion Cy5-NF with renal metabolic capacity and afterglow luminescence, which relied on an intramolecular cascade reaction between superoxide anion (O2•-, instead of 1O2) and Cy5-NF to release afterglow luminescence. Of note, compared with different reference contrast agents, zwitterion Cy5-NF not only had excellent afterglow properties but also had a rapid renal metabolism rate (half-life period, t1/2, around 10 min) and good biocompatibility. Unlike prior afterglow nanosystems possessing a large size, for the first time, zwitterion Cy5-NF has achieved the construction of water-soluble renal metabolic afterglow contrast agents, which showed higher sensitivity and signal-to-background ratio in afterglow imaging than fluorescence imaging for the kidney. Moreover, zwitterion Cy5-NF had a longer kidney retention time in renal-failure mice (t1/2 more than 15 min). More importantly, zwitterion Cy5-NF can be metabolized very quickly even in severe renal-failure mice (t1/2 around 25-30 min), which greatly improved biosecurity. Therefore, we are optimistic that the O2•--mediated afterglow mechanism-based water-soluble zwitterion Cy5-NF is very promising for clinical application, especially rapid detection of kidney failure.

RESUMO

Effective monitoring of the physiological progression of acute lung injury (ALI) in real time is crucial for early theranostics to reduce its high mortality. In particular, activatable fluorescence and photoacoustic molecule probes have attracted attention to assess ALI by detecting related indicators. However, the existing fluorophores often encounter issues of low retention in the lungs and slow clearance from the body, which compromise the probe's actual capability for in situ imaging by intravenous injection in vivo. Herein, a novel near-infrared hemicyanines fluorophore (FJH) bearing a quaternary ammonium group was first developed by combining with the rational design and screening strategy. The properties of good hydrophilicity and blood circulation effectively enable FJH accumulation for lung imaging. Inspired by the high retention efficiency, the probe FJH-C that turns on fluorescence and photoacoustic signals in response to the ALI indicator (esterase) was subsequently synthesized. Notably, the probe FJH-C successfully achieved the selectivity and sensitivity toward esterase in vitro and in living cells. More importantly, FJH-C can be further used to assess lipopolysaccharides and silica-induced ALI through the desired fluo-photoacoustic signal. Therefore, this study not only shows the first activatable probe for real-time imaging of lung function but also highlights the fluorophore structure with high lung retention. It is believed that FJH and FJH-C can serve as an efficient platform to reveal the pathological progression of other lung diseases for early diagnosis and medical intervention.

RESUMO

Iodine is an essential element that is used to make thyroid hormones. However, people usually ignore their iodine nutrition level, thus leading to a series of thyroid diseases, particularly in areas where medical resources are scarce. Thus, development of a portable, economical, and simple method for the detection of urinary iodine is of significant importance. Herein, a solid-phase fluorescence filter effect (SPFFE) induced by iodine was used to develop an SPFFE-based point-of-care testing (POCT) platform for the detection of urinary iodine by coupling with headspace sample introduction. This method can not only alleviate the matrix interference that occurred in the conventional inner filter effect (IFE) but also achieve high sensitivity. Furthermore, the urinary iodine (UI) POCT platform was developed through the integration of a sample pretreatment and fluorescence readout. This whole system costs less than US $20 and provides accurate temperature control and a portable fluorescence reading within 15-20 min. Compared to the traditional IFE-based assay, the SPFFE-based POCT platform allows the selective detection of iodine as low as 10 nM and has a linear range of 0.05-4 µM. In addition, it provides notable visualization from blue-violet to orange-red in the presence of iodine, which tends to indicate the iodine nutritional status of the human body. Eventually, the clinical applicability and feasibility of the UIPOCT platform as an early diagnostic test kit were confirmed by determining the iodine in urine samples from children and pregnant women.

RESUMO

Acid-base titration of complex samples is conducive to the rapid evaluation of the degree and risk of environmental pollution to some extent. However, the traditional titration methods usually suffer from serious interference. Herein, an automatic acid-base titration method coupling miniature point discharge optical emission spectrometry (µPD-OES) with CO2 vapor generation was described for the precise, sensitive, and matrix interference-free acid-base titration of complex samples, particularly those with high color intensity, salinity, and turbidity such as wastewater and soil samples. In this work, acid-base titration was carried out in a chemical vapor generator where CO2 was generated through the addition of HCl or NaHCO3, thus enabling efficient separation of CO2 from a complex matrix. The generated CO2 was subsequently swept into the miniaturized point discharge for excitation and further detection by µPD-OES, where the carbon atomic emission at 193.0 nm was monitored. According to the consumed volume and concentration of HCl, accurate and automatic measurements of OH-, CO32-, and HCO3- can be accomplished. The proposed method possesses a high sensitivity of µPD-OES for the detection of CO2 with a relative standard deviation of below 3.0%. Moreover, the proposed system not only retains several unique advantages of accuracy, simplicity, and elimination of the use of complicated, expensive, and high power-consumption instruments but also alleviates the color and turbid interference from complex samples such as dyeing wastewater samples, oilfield water samples, and soil samples. It retains a promising potential application for titration analysis of other samples such as sludge, sediment, and landfill leachate.

RESUMO

A simple solid phase photothermo-induced chemical vapor generation (SP-PT-CVG) is described and used as an environmentally friendly desorption method for the sensitive determination of mercury in water by direct immersion solid phase microextraction (DI-SPME) atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS). A DI-SPME array equipped with 20 nano-TiO2-coated tungsten fibers was employed to simultaneously preconcentrate mercury from 20 samples, enabling an extraction throughput of 40 samples per hour. Subsequently, the fibers were drawn from the sample solutions and inserted into an inner tube sealed in a specially designed UV lamp in turn for SP-PT-CVG to generate Hg0, which was swept to an AFS detector for its detection. It is worth noting that the tube served as both a vapor generator and a desorption chamber. This proof-of-concept study confirms the feasibility of solid phase CVG. Compared to conventional CVG carried out in the liquid phase, solid phase CVG not only retains the advantages of conventional CVG but also alleviates the matrix interference on vapor generation and preconcentrates analyte prior to vapor generation, improving analytical performance for liquid state samples. DI-SPME-SP-PT-CVG-AFS provides a limit of detection of 2.3 ng L-1 for mercury determination by AFS. In the proposed method, the combination of DI-SPME and SP-PT-CVG eliminates the tedious derivatization steps required in conventional headspace SPME, thus minimizing toxic reagent consumption and improving extraction throughput. The practicality of DI-SPME-SP-PT-CVG-AFS was evaluated by analyzing two different certified reference materials and river water samples with good spike recoveries (98-107%).
